I would like to apologize for the lack of updates recently. Unfortunately I came down with a very bad bout of peritonitis which resulted in a rush trip to the ER.

While at the ER I was given an IV containing Oxycondone. Let me just say I fully understand why people get addicted to that stuff, after about 5 minutes of the IV drip I had no pain and felt like I was flying.. Unfortunately they wouldn't let me take a few bags home.

The one silver lining for this site is my orders are basically bed rest which has allowed me to watch a shitload of daytime TV... and get angrier and angrier. I have a notepad filled with upcoming blog topics and once I start feeling better.. well let me just say as a promise to you there will be some rants that you'll never forget. I am hoping by the first few days in September we will be rocking and rolling.

As I've stated before, I'm really not a fan of religion or arguing religious beliefs on the internet, however this story is just too amazing & sad to ignore.

This past Saturday afternoon, Texas Govenor and possible 2012 Presidential candidate Rick Perry held something called The Response at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Unhappy with the current situation in the United States, Gov. Perry decided to hold The Response where everyone in attendance would....pray for things to get better. I really wish I was making this shit up.

Perry in conjunction with the wonderfully homophobic and possibly racist American Family Association decided that prayer was the best way to tackle the problems facing their country. From the official response website (you can read it all here if you dare)

America is in the midst of a historic crisis. We have been besieged by financial debt, terrorism, and a multitude of natural disasters. The youth of America are in grave peril economically, socially, and, most of all, morally. There are threats emerging within our nation and beyond our borders beyond our power to solve.

Our nation is at a crossroads. More and more Americans are perceiving the critical juncture we find ourselves in – the future of our nation is determined by the courage of its people: first, in recognizing the magnitude of our common trouble; then, by uniting to seize the unique opportunity this moment offers us. Our response can, in part, determine our future and define for our children – and their children – what kind of nation they will govern, serve, and lead.

Again this really fucking happened. There are disputes on how many people were actually in attendance as the organizers boasted that over 30,000 people attended however as of the Friday night prior to the event, only 8,000 had been confirmed for the event. To be honest the number of people that attended is irrelevant, there are three major issues that I find completely offensive.

#1. - Separation of Church and State

The Americans are known for beating their chests about their wonderful constitution, especially when it comes to their guns and their RIGHT TO BARE ARMS! Yet they'll just ignore the separation of church and state and have a possible presidential candidate praying for things to get better. How fucking lovely

#2 - The entire event is discriminatory

When the event was first announced some critics posed the question of, what if you aren't catholic and don't pray to "God"? The event organizers quickly backpedaled and stated that it was a day of prayer and faith and anyone was invited and allowed to come. But let's face it that what just more bullshit PR, anytime the AFA is involved, gays and non-whites better stay the fuck away. Without launching into a tirade, the AFA is the same group that "had nothing against gays but would pray for them to find that homosexuality is a sin". In my opinion there is very little difference between the KKK and AFA.

#3 - THEY ARE PRAYING TO AN INVISIBLE WIZARD WHO DOESN'T EVEN EXIST

Ah feel that? It's the lack of personal responsibility that keeps this site thriving, go back and read the purpose of this "response". Because there are problems BEYOND OUR CONTROL. Are you fucking kidding me? You assholes got yourself into this mess with your total disregard of the consequences of your actions as well as your bullshit need for instant gratification. You can't spend money on multiple needless wars, then throw your hands up and be confused that your economy is in the tank. Maybe if you wait long enough Apple will make a fix the economy app!
Instead of taking a look in the mirror and blaming themselves and trying to work on a real solution, these 30,000+ nutjobs asked some grand wizard in the sky to help them. Which is completely mind boggling because, if this grand wizard actually existed, why wouldn't he/she have helped them before things got this bad? Oh right, you're not supposed to use common sense with religion.
Arrogance and Ignorance is a bad combination, especially when you consider there are places in this world where kids don't see their 5th birthday before they die of starvation.

Morbid Obesity: Coming To A Town Near You!

If you've been outside recently you may have noticed a growing trend - literally. People are becoming the size of barns. We've gotten to the point in North America, where if one is able to walk through a doorway without turning sideways they have a proud sense of accomplishment. Statistics released this year indicate that 1 in 4 Canadians and 1 in 3 Americans fall into the obese category. Not just overweight, not chunky, not big boned. GIANT FAT ASSES.

A running theme in this blog is lack of personal responsibility, something that applies directly to the obese community. Instead of taking a good long look at themselves in an over-sized mirror they do what society does best, they play the blame game. If you ask obese people, you will get a myriad of answers as to why they weigh more than a small horse. It's always the fault of genetics or they have a thyroid problem" I have a glandular problem It's excuse after excuse without addressing the truth, which is simply THEY EAT TOO FUCKING MUCH.

As someone who fell into the obese category over 4 years ago and is no longer in it, I can say the key to weight loss is a extremely simple It's Calories IN vs Calories OUT. There is no magic pill, there are no shortcuts. Of course you could be a giant fucking tool and do that fucking idiotic lap-band surgery and either die immediately after surgery or spend the rest of your life licking an ice cube and calling that dinner. So stop watching TV get your fat ass off the couch and go for a walk, leave the car at home and walk to work *GASP* A WHOLE FOUR CITY BLOCKS??!? YOU MONSTER! Stop treating Ronald McFucking Donald like your dealer and eat a salad with veggies once in a while. Not a salad with a litre of full-fat dressing either. I don't want my tax dollars to go to these fucking hambeasts in "mobility carts" rolling around this fucking city.

The picture you see above inspired this rant and is sadly an actual menu items in many places in the US and is being introduced here at the "Canadian National Exhibition"... Think of a really really shitty County fair, make it 10 times worse and that's the CNE here in Toronto. Last year they had deep fried butter & deep friend mac n cheese. This year the big attraction will be the Krispy Kreme burger which is a beef patty topped with a slice of cheddar, tomato, lettuce, bacon and an egg will be wedged between two glazed doughnuts. The heart attack snack packs about 1,000 calories

Personally the thought of sugary doughnuts combined with a burger makes my stomach turn but have no doubt it will be a giant seller and the CNE will makes tons of money from it while the fat fucks get fatter and struggle to walk up a flight of stairs.

In the coming years they better find a way to deep fry insulin, because at this rate we're going to need it.

Shame On You Mayor Ford

Earlier this week the Toronto Police announced they would not charge Mayor Rob Ford after Ford admitted to talking on his cell phone while driving. Toronto police stated that Ford would not be charged with distracted driving because "cost to pursue outweighs penalty." What a fantastic precedent to set, get off your ass and enforce the law? nah it's just too time consuming. Let's hit the Tim Hortons for a double-double and a maple dip instead. Jesus christ this fucking city.

The distracted driving law came into effect in this city just over 18 months ago, after numerous time consuming debates during city council meetings. To say the police have been lax in enforcing the law would be extremely generous. The law is basically treated like jaywalking, I can't go a day without seeing someone driving and yapping on their phone while the police do nothing. Hell I've even seen cop cars drive past people on the phone. If the police force has decided to practically ignore the law (there are some instances of them actually bothering to give tickets) that's bad enough, but in this instance there is a much bigger issue.

Rob Ford is the mayor of this city. He should be held to the highest standard possible. Keep in mind this isn't a he said/she said, there are no facts in dispute. Ford has admitted to using his cellphone while driving. If he doesn't have to face the consequences of breaking the law, why should anyone else in the city? If the police do decide to give someone a ticket for distracted driving shouldn't the "guilty" person just ask that Mr. Ford take care of it and rip it up? It's obviously not that big of a deal.

I would hope that if someone decided to confess to a murder they committed that the police wouldn't see the cost outweighing the penalty. And yes, I know that may seem like a rather silly comparison but in reality where do we draw the line? If distracted driving isn't a big deal what about shoplifting or running a red light? The police are supposed to enforce the law not pick and choose due to their own opinion of what's too time consuming or costly.

The city is a mess right now, budgets cuts all over the place resulting in a lot of unhappy people who are seeing services they use on a regular basis cut yet the city magically has 2 million dollars to remove bike lanes on Jarvis street. Add to that the fact you have Rob's brother Councillor Doug Ford making a complete asshole out of himself every time there is a microphone near him and the end result is a lot of people unhappy with the people who are trying to run this city.

This was a huge missed opportunity for Rob Ford to take charge and portray himself as a leader. Instead of being let off the hook it was the chance to step up and take the ticket and acknowledge that the laws are laws for a reason and that he is not above the law. Hell even if he made a charitable donation in the amount the ticket would have been for- if he had done anything rather than brush it off as a non-issue I could get past it. Quite frankly I expect better from people who are in power.

In the last election, I voted for Rob Ford and was a big supporter. However after a few months of him in power, would he still get my vote today? I honestly don't know.

A Perfectly Normal Trip To The Doctor's Office

I am not turning this blog into a live journal. I am not going to come home everyday and update you wonderful people about my day. However there are times where the idiocy and mind boggling behaviour that I encounter deserves its own post... and today was one of those days.

The plan was simple, I had to head down to the local medical clinic and get the results of a blood test that I had last Saturday. I figured giving the lab 6 days to send the results was more than fair as they are usually done the same day. The office doesn't open until 9 and there are no scheduled appointments, it's a first come first serve basis. I stepped off the bus at precisely 8:52AM to see a relatively long lineup outside the clinic. Figuring I had nothing better to do (I usually don't) I decided to wait. Thankfully it wasn't a long wait as the clinic opened the doors a few minutes before 9. As soon as the doors opened you would have thought it was Black Friday as the people hustled in as fast as they could, since I was the last one that arrived outside I thought it was only fair that I was the last of the group to go in, besides I didn't feel like losing a limb to get a slightly better position.

So as we lined up to give our wonderful health card, yes trips to the doctors are free in Canada, god bless that "socialism" as some of you American Nutjobs call it, anyways this is where the fun really began. To explain the magnitude of stupidity I have to explain how the office is setup and I'm doing so with a nice diagram that I drew in about 30 seconds in MS Paint, I'm not artistically gifted and quite frankly it doesn't matter, you just need to get the idea.. the model is not to scale:

PATIENT #1- IGNORANT OBLIVIOUS STROLLER LADY

So the lady first in line comes barreling through with her young child in this massive fucking stroller, I mean this thing is bigger than some apartments in this city, I mean the kid could fucking sleep in it and invite 30 of his closest friends for one hell of a party. After the woman hands in her card and is told to take a seat, which seat does she take? Well only the most inconvenient seat of course! She decides to, in essence, take 5 seats by sitting on the row with 5 seats and putting the stroller in front of the other seats. At this point there were at least 10 people in line all of whom would need to somehow take a seat. Luckily she was first so she was only being a giant pain in the ass for about 35 minutes.

PATIENT #2- ANGRY GERMAN LADY

This lady came in with her husband as it was him that needed to see the doctor. She was in a hurry and she let him know numerous times that she was not happy with him. Now I don't speak much (any) German and for my sake that was probably a good thing. She yelled at him A LOT. It was like by visiting the doctor he was taking her away from something very very important-- so important that after waiting about 10 minutes she left and drove to the nearest Tim Hortons which is a good 5-10 minutes away and she returned with a coffee for her and nothing for him- and then the yelling and general bitching continued. Usually people are quiet and respectful in waiting rooms but not this cow.

PATIENT #3- THE "I SHOULD HAVE PULLED OUT" DUDE

Now this pair came in after I was already seated and to be honest they were still there when I left so I probably missed some greatness but sadly I still have enough material. A father and son came in, the kid's name was Lucas- I know this because the father repeatedly yelled at little Lucas who couldn't have been more than 6 years old. I would guess the father was between 25 & 30 and you could tell immediately he didn't want to be there. In the time they were in the waiting room while I was there, the father went outside to make 3 phone calls and each time he came back in he yelled at the kid for not staying in his seat. Poor little Lucas couldn't do anything right. Don't touch that, we're going to be here a LONG TIME etc etc. the whole time the father had the look of "why didn't I wear a condom" on his face. Total Douchebag.

PATIENT #4- GEEZER PATROL

I have no problem with old people in fact I'd go as far to say I really like old people. However a couple came in, again after I was already seated. It took them almost 2 minutes to get from the door to the nurses desk. The woman had a cane and the man who was "assisting" her looked like he was the one in need of assistance. Normally this wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I watched them come in AND THE OLD MAN DROVE THEM THERE. If it takes you 120 seconds to walk about 15 feet how the hell are you allowed to be behind the wheel of a 3,000 vehicle of death. WHAT. THE. FUCK. To make matters even worse they were apparently new to the clinic and required to fill out a new patient form. To this the old man threw his hands up (slowly) and said no no I don't understand you do it you do it. To her credit the nurse simply asked the questions and filled out the form, but again THIS MAN IS DRIVING A CAR. If that's not enough to scare the shit out of you, I don't know what is.

PATIENT #5- MILDLY ATTRACTIVE BLOND LADY

Thanks for showing up today Mildly attractive blond lady, I starred at you A LOT. Hopefully you don't think I'm a creep. That is all.

So eventually, after over an hour of waiting, it was my turn. Normally this is where I would end this blog post, but today was a very very special day. I went in and saw the Doc. I informed him I had the blood test done last Saturday and was here to get the results. He looked through my chart and asked Are you sure you had it done? As a little piece of me died inside, I confirmed that yes, I did it. The results weren't there so he'd have someone contact the lab. 35 minutes later he returned with the results. Which were almost perfect. And almost two hours after I got there I was finally able to go. What a great day indeed.

GORDON RAMSAY: SHUT HIM DOWN

Let me start by saying this is more a rant against the American Television Networks and the fools who continue to watch, rather than against Good old Gordo himself.

Last night Hell's Kitchen returned for it's 400th season (only season 9 but it sure feels like 400) and lately you can't watch anything restaurant related without seeing Gordon Ramsay's face plastered all over it. Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, and even Masterchef When is enough, enough? I don't blame Ramsay, he has the right to strike while the iron is hot and make as much money as he possible can- hell that seems to be the American way. What baffles me is how these shows continue to pull in strong ratings with millions of viewers when it's the same old recycled garbage season after season.

I'll admit when HK first started in 2005, I watched it religiously, it was something new and somewhat fresh on TV. I rooted for Michael to defeat evil Ralph and found Ramsay hilarious with his insults and volatile temper. But as we progress into season 9 I have to wonder how shallow and easily amused the American viewing public is. How many times can you watch the same thing over and over again? How many times can you watch Ramsay call someone a donkey or bitch about the risotto being cold and yelling SHUT IT DOWN in disgust. Add in the fake drama that goes on between the chefs, oh that one is a bitch, OH SNAP did you hear what he said about you? The list goes on and on, it's just juvenile high school bullshit. To make matters worse the "grand-prize" the "contestants" are playing for amounts to nothing but a joke. Over half of the winners either walked away shortly after getting the job or couldn't even get into the country (S8 winner Holli). Hell S1 winner Michael quit and came back to the US mere days after winning the "grand-prize". Remind me again why this show is still being produced when the people who WIN don't even want the fucking prize that they get?

The real travesty here is if we take a step back and examine reality (and I use that word very loosely) TV as a whole we notice that this type of repetitive garbage is par for the course. Survivor will be entering it's 23rd season in September. 23 fucking seasons of bickering, back stabbing and fake drama. Do people really have a thing for hearing Jeff Probst say "the jury has spoken" or are they so unhappy in their own pathetic lives they need to live through the dopes they see on TV every week. The Amazing Race has done 18 seasons, same crap different faces over and over again, yet all the while, the American public eats it all up.

It seems that once the network has a reality tv show hit they keep shoving it down our throats and hitting us over the head with us and like good little sheep people keeping tuning in week after week, I just don't understand it.

Part 2: When Did Society Turn Into Giant Wussies?

I want to quickly finish up this post (rant) by talking about something I heard Friday night on the radio, it was on the Fan 590 here in Toronto around midnight. The host, whose name I didn't listen long enough to get was talking about how terrible the Argos poster was and during his soliloquy said "30 or 40 years ago this poster would have been acceptable, but now with Political Correctness and that you just can't do it". This was about the time I shut the radio off, put my head in my hands and wept for humanity. My only response to that statement is WHY? WHAT HAS CHANGED? When did we, as humans, become so afraid to just live? Now everything has to be run through some sort of PR department or even worse companies do things only for good PR horrified to tick off the wrong person or "special interest group". As I stated earlier, all kids today have to get trophies. It would be too damaging to them to tell them they weren't good enough! They don't even have to earn their accolades , then they grow up and throw giant hissy fits when things don't go their way-- Remember the issue here was a poster advertising football that got twisted and turned into something about domestic violence being acceptable and condoned WHAT THE FUCK. I don't know when or where we lost our way or when people thought that their opinions and feelings became a law that other people had to follow and bow down to. But I can tell you that if this trend doesn't change the future is not going to pretty.

My apologies for taking so long to get this post up, sometimes real-life shit gets in the way but that's all taken care of now and you can expect much more frequent posts in the coming weeks.

*** For those wondering, Wonderful Councillor Mike Layton did not bother responding to the email I personally sent nor did he/his team bother to reply to the numerous tweets that were sent from @ihatesaturdaycm.. Nothing like a Councillor looking after his constituents.

The poster you see above was released by CFL team The Toronto Argonauts who have their home opener later this month, and it states "HOME IS WHERE HEART IS... ITS ALSO WHERE WE HURT PEOPLE"

Pretty effective ad right? They're a football team, they want to portray that they're tough, their home opener is in a couple of weeks, they want people to come watch them play, cheer on the home team, have a great time and be entertained! nothing wrong here right?

WRONG! It's 2011, THIS POSTER IS OFFENSIVE!

How is the poster offensive you ask? Well obviously because it says they HURT PEOPLE AT HOME, the Toronto Argonauts are CONDONING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

The Argos received complaints about the poster, notably from City Councillor Mike Layton- does that name sound familiar? Indeed, he is the son of NDP leader Jack Layton proving the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Nothing like a son riding daddies coattails to a position of power. The Genius Councillor wrote a letter to the Argos president and chief executive Bob Nicholson that while the intended meaning made sense, the advertisement for the season home opener “insinuates that domestic violence in the home is acceptable or normal.” Yes it is perfectly normal if you just threw up in your mouth reading that, just be happy you don't live in the same city that elected this brainiac.

I am almost at a loss for words at the complete stupidity of the issue, had the poster said "bitch get in the kitchen before you get another black eye" or "C-? Bobby prepare for the belt" or "watch us beat Calgary like Tony the drunk beats his stepson" then there might be some place for outcry, but since the beginning of time football has been known as a rough and tough game with hard hitting and injuries. Hell some of the most played highlights aren't of Touchdowns but of Wide Receivers going across the middle and getting creamed by a defensive back. But let's not take the ad for what it means, lets make it about domestic violence so we have something to bitch and moan and complain about!! GOOD JOB TORONTO!!

Of course the Argos, being the good submissive wimps we have come to expect in today's society, are going to remove the posters, because really that's the type of society we live in, god forbid someone takes offense to something!?!?!. Even when the intended meaning has absolutely nothing to do with domestic violence, if you twist and turn the words and forgo all use of common sense, THE ARGOS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN WIFE BEATERS!!!! THOSE BASTARDS!!!

Thinking about it even more, why is it called FOOTBALL? Isn't that offensive to people who don't have use of their feet?!?! CANCEL THE SEASON IMMEDIATELY!!!

What the hell has happened to society? Honesty has been replaced by not hurting anyone's feelings. Nowadays every kid who plays sports has to get a trophy, because it would be too damaging to tell them they just aren't very good, then we wonder they grow up with an outrageous sense of entitlement thinking they deserve anything and everything they want. Common sense doesn't even exist anymore. Coffee shops have to include a warning labeled "this coffee is hot" or else they could get sued when someone burns their thighs because of their own idiotic actions. Everyone goes around making sure not to step on anyone's toes so worried they are going to offend someone- This Argos poster "outcry" is just another embarrassing indication of how bad we are failing as a society.

The bottom line here is there is nothing offensive on the poster and the fact that taxdollars and more importantly time by a City Councillor was spent on such a non-issue when this city is falling down around us is outright disgusting and despicable.

My Disappointing Experience With Google Adsense

As loyal readers of this site will notice, the layout of this blog has changed a little bit. This was done partly because it was time for a change and also because I have a new ad sponsor on this site because I was recently banned from Google Adsense because, and I quote, "After reviewing our records, we've determined that your AdSense account poses a risk of generating invalid activity" You may be wondering what exactly that means, and I can't answer that question because I honestly don't have a clue.

I started this site almost a year ago, at first I planned on blogging sparingly maybe one or two a month, but as time progressed I found I enjoyed blogging and found it almost therapeutic to rant about the idiocy that I seem to encounter on a day to day basis. As I continued blogging, I decided I would enroll in the google adsense program since I figured any money I made from blogging would be a bonus, I certainly didn't have delusions of being able to blog for a living or making a ton of money- but I was not going to refuse the possibility of getting paid for something that I actually enjoyed doing.

I put my ads up in February. Things started out slow as I completely expected they would. Going from memory, since once you've had your account disabled, Adsense doesn't even allow you to login to look at your stats, I believe I made something like ~$15 in February- For those unfamiliar with Adsense's policy they only send you money once you've passed the threshold of $100 USD or your currencies equivalent, so the $15 rolled over into the next month. In March I had some medical issues early in the month which led to only 5 blog posts- the majority of which were put up late in the month. After I started to feel better I posted on a much more consistent basis in April-- which is the same time that I decided if I was going to blog I was going to put some effort into promoting the blog, to be honest if you're reading this there's a good chance you were referred to this blog from facebook, twitter or reddit. There was an increased spike in traffic as I had hoped there would be. Because of this I ended up over the $100 threshold in April and was actually paid by Google in May, I was thrilled. Moving into May we had the whole Osama Bin Laden death/questions issues which provided another sustained spike in traffic. I won't continue to bore you with details but I accumulated $95 in May and in the first half of June had about $50.. so when I had my account disabled on June 15th, the $145 that I thought I was going to receive went back to Google. It was both disappointing and a tad frustrating but I'm not going to lose any sleep over that $145.

I'm extremely proud of the fact then when I started I would be lucky to get 100 views a day and as of this writing this blog averages anywhere between 900 and 1500 views a day and it's been a very steady gradual increase. I'm appreciative of everyone who bothers to come to this blog, whether you like & agree with what's written here or not. Hopefully I provide a few laughs and might even make you think about things, which is never a bad thing.

I also think it's important to stress that I'm not angry or bitter towards Google and their Ad Sense program, truth be told I was paid once by them which is a bonus as I've already stated that whole purpose of starting this blog was not to make money. My problem is with their seemingly arbitrary decision making process to just disable someones account. What exactly does generating invalid activity mean? I wasn't getting thousands of clicks a month, when I first started I would be lucky to get a few a week, by the time Adsense was disabled I was getting an average of 5-6 per day. Were the people who clicked not really interested in what they clicked? Were they people who were perhaps unhappy with what I had blogged about? I know for a fact there are people who vehemently dislike some of the things I've said in the past, was it some sort of revenge? Does that mean if I have enemies I can just go and click their ads and they'll get banned too? No one really knows and that's bush league by a company that seems intent on taking over the world.

Google offers an appeal-process for those who have their account disabled but to be honest the appeals form is one of the biggest jokes I've ever seen. They ask questions such as "why is your traffic important to advertisers". How can I possibly answer that? I'm not yahoo I dont get millions of visitors a day, then they insult you with this question: "why do you think your account was disabled". What can you possibly say here? "my neighbour is trying to ruin my life" or the Russian Mob is after me because I stole nuclear secrets? I DONT KNOW WHY IT WAS DISABLED, WHY DONT YOU TELL ME?!? To add further insult to injury, when they emailed with their appeal decision, they included this gem: "However, after thoroughly re-reviewing your account data and taking your feedback into consideration, our specialists have confirmed that we're unable to reinstate your AdSense account." That's right we didn't even bother reading your appeal, you can just go pound sand, our specialists (who for all I know are monkeys in diapers flinging their poop at a dartboard to see whether or not you win your appeal) said you're done so you're DONE!

So after I had my account disabled I did a google search- yes irony is a wonderful thing but I just can't bring myself to use BING- anyways I found that accounts getting disabled with no explanation is a fairly common occurrence. It's really quite sad when you think about it since many many moons ago Google wasn't the big fish in the pond, they were simply a startup trying to find their way. You would think they would be more understanding towards the little guy, and perhaps treat them with at least a modicum of respect, rather than just flexing their muscle and doing as they please.

Again I don't want this to come off as an Anti-Adsense post, I'm simply sharing the head-scratching experience that I had. Either way I want to thank you for reading this blog, some of you read it on a regular basis and I truly do appreciate that.

TTC: Wasting Money Since 1925

When I was just a young pup, my mother gave me some solid life advice, she always told me "Do whatever it is that you do best". Personally, I don't believe I've found whatever it is I do best, however I do marvel at the fact the TTC seems to have found their knack - wasting money.

Last week it was announced that the Toronto Transit Commission, who is facing a major budget short fall for the upcoming year would be spending $100,000 for a "suicide prevention program". The program will place over 200 posters in 69 stations urging people who are thinking of suicide to "talk about it". They will also install 141 specially-equipped payphones that will be installed at the stations’ Designated Waiting Area to contact the Distress Centres of Toronto where they will reach a trained counsellor. The service is free and confidential. The counsellor can also assess whether the TTC needs to be reached to slow down a train, or whether emergency workers need to be dispatched for assistance. In theory, it's a nice idea but when you look at it objectively, this is nothing but a giant waste of money. If you have someone who has strong enough suicidal urges to head down to the TTC platform waiting to jump in front of a train, how can you honestly believe that a special payphone is going to make them change their mind? Especially a phone located in the DWA.

According to the TTC's own website, the Designated Waiting Areas (DWA) have closed circuit cameras, brighter lights and a bench to sit on. Can someone explain to me how this "service" can be considered confidential? Why not just put up a big neon sign that says SUICIDAL NUTJOBS WELCOME. Honestly who is going to use a phone like this with people around? If you're undecided on whether you want to continue living or not the last thing you want to do draw even more attention to yourself.

I think it's also important to point out that last year there were 26 suicides via TTC jumpers and thus far there have been 7 this year, so this isn't a daily occurrence, not to sound callous but to gamble $100,000 of money that you don't have in hopes that it MIGHT prevent a suicide is not fiscally responsible and downright wrong. In the end the people who will suffer the most are the riders of the TTC. Being a monthly metropass user myself, I can't explain how infurriating it is to see $100k thrown away when that money could be spent all over the place to improve the current system and keep fares from going up once again.

I really don't understand when it became the TTC's responsbility to attempt to prevent suicides- especially at the cost of $100,000 with no guarantee of success.

Of course there is always the possibility that the unavoidable raise in TTC fare will prevent a suicide as the person who wants to end their life just won't be able to afford a token to get to the TTC platform.

Toddlers & Tiaras Returned To TLC Last Night!!

Last night, on the TLC network, yet another season of the hit show Toddlers & Tiaras aired. This season marks the fourth that the show has been on the air. For those of you unfamiliar with this filth, the show takes a look at the world of children's beauty pageants. TLC promotes the show as:

On any given weekend across the country, toddlers take the stage wearing makeup, spray tans and fake hair to be judged on beauty, personality and costumes. Toddlers & Tiaras follows families on their quest for sparkly crowns, big titles and lots of cash.

But in reality it has nothing to do with titles and "lots of cash". The show focuses on the behind the scenes work done by the parents - mostly mothers but sometimes fathers partake in the disgusting behaviour as well. The parents are shown "working" with their little children, dragging them all across state lines to take them from one pageant to another, teaching them how to pose, applying FAKE HAIR and of course TANNING THEIR CHILD. I would be remiss not to mention the best part of the show the parents yelling at the children for everything tiny thing that they do wrong. BECAUSE IF ITS WRONG YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE POINTS FROM THE JUDGES!?!?!?!?!?!?!? The best part? The children are under the age of 7 and in some cases under the age of 5. Yes I threw up in my mouth a little bit as well.

What kind of barbaric parent engages in this kind of activity? What kind of fucking buffoon takes their child on long road trips to parade around on stage with 14 pounds of makeup on their face wearing stupid fucking over the top costumes to be voted on by random judges? What kind of fucking life lesson is learned here? The "winner" believes that she is in fact pretty and that's the only thing that matters in this world, what a fucking great lessons for future generations. But what do the losers learn? That they aren't pretty enough or you can't get anywhere in life if you're not pretty? Or that they're nothing but losers? What a wonderful self-esteem boost that is for a 6 year old. THEY ARE SIX YEARS OLD FOR FUCK SAKE YOU CANT BE "PRETTY" AT SIX YEARS OLD. They should be out playing with barbie dolls and just having fun as being a kid.

It makes me wonder how the fuck do you become a judge at one of these pageants? How the fuck do you decide which 6 year old is "prettier". The last time I checked, people who found 6 year olds pretty were usually locked up in jails as fucking child molesters. Imagine answering the question of "what do you do for work" with "I JUDGE THE PRETTINESS OF SIX YEAR OLDS" fucking disgusting.

Getting back to the "mothers" (and I use that term very loosely) of the children, the worst part of it all is instead of being ashamed and embarrassed of their actions they're proud of them and are very quick to defend them. Always with the same bullshit answers too "my child is a star, oh she loves it soooo much" BULLSHIT YOU STUPID WHORE. The majority of the time, it's nothing more than the mothers, who were probably fat ugly and stupid children, living vicariously through their own children. The mothers push them because THEY want it, they don't give a flying fuck what their children want. The mothers are the ones who want their glory and are using their own children as nothing more than pawns in the game, ruining their childhood along the way.

I'll admit I attempted to give this show a fair shot and actually watched a bit of this garbage last night. I lasted 4 minutes. I couldn't stomach the interview with the mother of "Eden Wood" Honestly I thought it was a porn star name when I first heard it. Anyways this fake blonde bimbo was so proud that her daughter was such a star and that she had a book out and an album coming out. That's right a 6 year old girl has a book and album coming out. I turned the show off right there for fear my dinner was about to come up out of my stomach.

I really don't mean to pick on TLC, I'm sure there are a bunch of wonderful people working there, but they seem to have a knack at showcasing the worst that humans have to offer.

As far as I'm concerned parents who enter their little children in pageants should have them taken away by Child Protective Services. The pageants amount to nothing less than child abuse.

Canada Post: On Strike..Well Sort Of.

It is with a sense of pride that I am able to bring you a piece of stupidity from my own wonderful country, Canada. On June 2nd of this year, the Workers of Canada Post officially went on strike, well their version of a strike. Instead of all mailmen all across the country going on strike, they are having rotating strikes. Meaning they will select a city and just not deliver there just for that day. However they did decide that they would continue delivery of all unemployment, welfare and social-assistant cheques to Canadians, because really LETS NOT PISS OFF THOSE ON WELFARE. The rotating strikes thus far have happened in Winnipeg, Hamilton, Kitchener , Victoria, Edmonton & Calgary. Hilarious that here in Canada's largest city, Toronto, they haven't had their little rotating strike. Although with the speed of service in my neighbourhood, I would argue they've been on strike here for years.

The reason for the strike is due to what all strikes are over. Human Greed. The workers are upset at the offer to lower the STARTING wage 22% and put all workers in a two-tier benefit system, meaning that the longer you work for Canada Post, the more benefits you would receive. Personally I think that's more than fair as you won't exactly kill yourself as a postal worker, you sort mail and deliver it- you're not curing cancer. The only real dangers of the job are... yea I couldn't come up with any either. Oh and of course the workers also want a 3.3% raise in the first year and a 2.75% raise for the next 3 years of this new contact. Because hey, everything is getting more expensive so it's only fair that they get more money, right? WRONG!

Since 2006 the overall workload for Canada Post has gone DOWN 17%. Which is to be expected, we live in an internet-obsessed society, now instead of sending Grandma a letter updating her on you and your family and Billy's 5th birthday party, you can email her, tweet her, or facebook her. Hell if you're Grandma is tech-savvy you can even Skype her in and she can watch little Billy blow out the birthday candles from the comfort of her living room!

When was the last time you or someone you know actually sat down and mailed a letter? Sure there are some business that still communicate through the mail but those numbers are dwindling, these days even most banks don't even bother sending you a statement if you sign up for their online banking service and every day more and more businesses are using the internet to reach customers all over the world. How much more efficient is it to be able to email a company with questions and have them respond possibly the same day, while if you mail a letter you'd be lucky if the business received it in a week. Have to ship international? Fedex and UPS have that market pretty much under control. (Editors note: use Fedex, UPS brokerage fees are offensive.)

An early report from Canada Post is that the amount of mail they process has decreased at a rate of approximately 50% since the start of the strike. Hopefully this will serve as a wakeup call for the workers, that the people in this country don't need you and will get along just fine if you never go back to work. What they need to realize is that the longer they are out, the more people will adjust to not using the mail and by the time they reach their precious agreement and come back no one will care or notice. Personally I hope they never come back. 17% decrease in workload and want an 11% raise and more benefits over 4 years. Outrageous.

Extreme Couponing or Extremely Disturbing Behaviour??

Extreme Couponing is a new show on the TLC network which has started to rise in popularity. The show focuses on families who take couponing to the extreme. Each 30 minute episode features a look at families who plan massive shopping trips and using coupons pay very little, sometimes just pennies, for a few hundred or even thousand dollars worth of products. It should be noted that the series takes place in the US as there are a lot of supermarkets there that will "double coupon" meaning if you have a coupon for $0.75 you will actually get $1.50 off of the product.

Now on the surface, this seems like a fantastic idea, especially in this economy- who couldn't save a little money on groceries? Then I sat down and watched an episode... and was beyond horrified. I have only watched a handful of episodes and some of the things I've seen include:

A woman and her child dumpster diving to find more coupons.
A woman buying over 150 containers of mustard, even though her husband does not eat mustard
A man taking all the store's vitamin water (over 50 cases)
A woman who had over 100 packages of diapers that she got for free using coupons.. yet she does not have any children.
A man taking over 100 sticks of deodorant
Numerous people showing off their pantries with thousands of dollars worth of food that they got almost free with coupons.
A family planning their shopping trip for up to 6 hours at home before actually going to the store

I believe in using coupons and saving money wherever you can- especially in this economy. But there's a huge difference between trying to save a little money and being an obsessive compulsive hoarder. Who in their right minds needs 150 containers of mustard? just because they're on sale.

This behaviour isn't cute, it's downright disgusting that these people are diving through dumpsters to stock up on items they are probably never going to use. To make things worse, the people featured in the show are always proud of how much stuff they've gotten for free- hey I'll be the first to admit there's nothing wrong with using coupons or trying to save money-- but TO WHAT END?!? There's a fine line between being a smart shopper and being a greedy pig. It's scary to think that these people have thousands of dollars sitting in their pantries collecting dust while there are children all over their city that won't eat dinner tonight.

Diving through dumpsters to save money on a few products? Really? Me- I'll pay full price for that container of mustard, and not have to buy new clothes and keep my pride.

This was found on one of the shelves at a No Frills store here in Toronto. I've tried long and hard to think of excuses for this piss-poor spelling, but I honestly can't come up with anything other than outright stupidity and illiteracy, how do these people manage to hold jobs? Although if you're shopping at No Frills.. maybe you don't have one.. Although that's not fair to No Frills, there are some really nice ones in this city.

How does someone like this function in today's society? I understand typos and the odd mistake, hell I'm the first to admit I'll even publish some posts that aren't perfect that need to be edited, but god dammit I know how many "p"s there are in the word PAPER, I'm pretty sure a 3rd grader would know that.

The worst thing is since it was such a long shopping list you have to figure that the person was over 18, I'm not sure if that condemns the education system in this city or if some people are just so stupid they shouldn't be allowed to breed.. To be honest I think it's a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B.

The Blurry Line Between Religious Faith & Dementia

When I first started this blog, there were some topics that I had planned to avoid, namely religion as I've always believed that arguing or debating about religious beliefs on the internet was the definition of idiotic. However now that Saturday May 21st, 2011 has passed and we're all still here, I really believe it's something that needs to be addressed.

As you've no doubt know by now, May 21st has come and gone and obviously if you're reading this, Harold Camping's prediction of the rapture fell a little short.

Camping claimed earlier this year that, based on his calculations, the Rapture, God’s Day of Judgment, the end of the world is coming on May 21. At around 6 pm that day, roughly 2 percent of the population will be “raptured”, carried away to Heaven. The rest will go to the euphemistic “Other Place”. Camping, an 89-year-old former engineer, has spread his message far and wide, via the Family Radio Network, a religious broadcasting organization that subsists entirely on listener’s contribution, The Independent reported. Boasting assets at around $120 million, the network owns 66 stations in the US alone and has launched an international advertisement campaign regarding the May 21 rapture, from billboards in Atlanta to London Tube stations to a be-logoed camper van traveling around America.

Of course Camping's prediction had a solid basis and foundation, he based it on.. well what else THE MAGICAL BIBLE! Because really- a fictional book written by man thousands of years ago is so relate-able to today's society- especially predicting the end of it.

Now I could go on and on about how ridiculously stupid the prediction was and ridicule Harold Camping like thousands of people have already done, but I think there is something that the media has missed here, shocking I know- instead of focusing on the 89 year old Camping I'd like to shift the attention to the numerous people all across the world who believed this shit.

People all over the world really believed that the earth was going to open up and swallow sinners- they quit their jobs in preparation for this, they took out loans on their homes and went nuts maxing out their credit cards figuring they wouldn't have to pay it off.. Then there was fire-fighter Jeff from Long Island who ordered a pizza at 4:43 and asked them to hurry because there "might not be enough time to eat it". It concerns me that these people are allowed to roam free in our society, out wandering the streets- they belong locked up in the fucking looney bin.

But of course they're not locked up are they? They get to go around spouting off all of their trash and nonsense, and they're free to do so under the wonderful umbrella of FAITH.

Here's a scenario for you, imagine you were out walking down the street and I came up to you and said the unicorns are coming and they are bringing the dinosaurs and then it's going to rain for 40 days in a row so we better take cover now and I know all of this because my Dog told me. If you could contain your laughter you'd tell me to get the fuck away from you and if there was an officer nearby you'd probably flag him down and tell him I needed psychiatric care.

Yet people flock to Church on a weekly basis to hear stories about an invisible grand wizard who lives on a private island in the sky who is able to watch every single one of us every moment of every day. Now I admit, I love a fabulous fairytale just as much as the next guy and in all honesty the idea of being able to watch anyone at anytime is rather.. perverse albeit somewhat arousing. However the fact remains it's nothing more than an unproven fairytale and the fact that real people put their belief into this junk is horrifying to me.

You're allowed to believe whatever you want to, if you want to believe in a magical wizard or Unicorns or 5 headed monsters you can do that, but how dare you try to shove your bullshit beliefs down my or anyone-else's throat. I'd prefer to stay in the real world where I have proof of what I do and don't believe in. Personally I stopped having an invisible friend in my childhood, shame more people couldn't make that break.

I think it's important to stress that I don't have the answers, I have plenty of questions myself about this planet that I will probably never have answered. I don't know if there is anything beyond this life-- but you know what? Neither do those fucking sky pilots who pretend they're messengers from the magical wizard teaching "his words" on weekly basis-- that is when they're not busy in the back with the alter boys.

Don't Support Gay Marriage? Then Don't Marry A Gay!

Originally, I wasn't even going to address this issue as it was one of the few things that I felt didn't need addressing here in 2011. Apparently I was wrong, this all stems from NHL player Sean Avery's controversy from late last week. Avery, an absolute prick on the ice, spoke out supporting gay marriage. That lead to NHL Player Agent Todd Reynolds to TWEET:

“Very sad to read Sean Avery's misguided support of same-gender ‘marriage,’ ” and that, “Legal or not, it will always be wrong.”

Seriously What. The. Fuck. In this day and age do people have nothing better to do than complain about gay people wanting to get married? Not that it matters, but I should point out I'm 100% straight as an arrow, I have numerous restraining orders to prove this fact- but again that's irrelevant to the point. If Gays want to marry, who the flying fuck cares?

It never ceases to amaze me the bullshit reasons people give for beyond against gay marriage. In some way shape or form they always bring it back to the bible, which in all honesty could be a separate blog rant in itself as it's a fucking mystery to me how something "written" thousands of years ago has any bearing on what happens in today's society- but alas I'll save that rant for a later time.

One of the biggest points of these bible-thumpers are that allowing gays to marry would violate the sanctity of marriage.......

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME

The sanctity of marriage? Have you fucking read the stats on marriage these days? 50% of 1st marriages FAIL. The other 50% just need time to fail, It seems to me that the fucking heterosexuals are doing just fine at destroying that precious sanctity of marriage.

Why not go protest the god damn Maury Povich show which I happened to be watching the other day, not that I make a habit out of watching that garbage, but when you're sick with the flu it can be quite mesmerizing. Anyways the wonderful heterosexual couple had to have a paternity test to prove who the baby's father was... and then he proposed to the fucking whore. I'm sure that's going to last.

Or if you really need someone to rally against, why not celebrities? Here are a few examples of fantastic celebrity marriages:

Remind me again how the sanctity of marriage is going to be harmed by allowing gays to marry?

Personally I'm all in favour of gay marriage, in fact I wish more men would turn gay. Why, you ask? Simple, for every man that turns gay, my chances and odds with the women on this planet get better and better.

This is another example of people shoving their views where they don't fucking belong, really, who gives a fuck if two men or two women are happy together, just fucking let them be and go back to your boring miserable life you fucking idiots.

Sick Of High Gas Prices? Tough Shit

It seems that latest public outcry is concerning the raising gas prices, it's such an outcry that the Federal Government is going to stop doing whatever it is they do and actually look into it. (full article here)

Here's an idea, instead of bitching and moaning for the Government to step in and regulate the prices, Why don't you people...

LEAVE YOUR FUCKING CAR AT HOME AND WALK YOU FUCKING OBESE WANKERS.

But that would be just too fucking simple, wouldn't it? It's 2011, society is all about ME ME ME, people think driving a car is a god-given right rather than a fucking privilege. How could you ever live without your precious little automobile?!?! Giving it up would require SO MUCH FUCKING EFFORT and we can't have that, can we?!?!

People conveniently forget that the gas companies are a business, a very fucking profitable business and like me, they don't give a flying fuck about you. Their sole purpose on this earth isn't to make sure you can fill up your piece of shit car and get to the Drive-Thru at McDonalds. They have every right to charge whatever they see fit for gas, if you don't like it don't fucking pay it asshole.

This is nothing more than supply and demand. It's simple economics that I learned in high school, of course people are idiots so what the fuck can I expect? The higher the demand is for a good, the higher the fucking price is going to be. Why should they charge $0.50/litre if you morons are perfectly willing to pay $1.50+ per litre? Some people may call that greed, but in reality it's just a fucking solid business model. So if you really want something done about these "outrageous" gas prices, stop taking your fucking car and refuse to pay for gas. Use public transit, walk, crawl, I don't give a fuck just stop whining about the price of gas. But of course that will never happen because you're all fucking sheep and you couldn't possibly live without your automobile?!?!?!?!?!? Just know that the higher the gas prices go the more you'll pay and the more I'll be sitting here laughing at you.

Personally I don't drive, for a myriad of reasons. For one I value my life and don't trust you idiots handling a 3,000 pound machine of death. Then of course I enjoy having a shitload of extra disposable income each and every month since I don't have to shell out hundreds of dollars for gas, and lastly but certainly not least is the added bonus of being able to say to anyone that No, I don't drive I actually care about our environment and future generations on this planet. Even if it may not be the 100% truth, it's fun to say with a big shit-eating grin.

To those of you that think the Government is actually going to step in to "regulate" The industry, think about it this way. Every dollar of profit these companies make, they pay taxes on and every tax dollar goes to the Government.. yeah I'm sure it's really in the Government's best interest to lower these prices!! fucking idiots.

It's been a while since I had a solid rant post like this one. There will be many more to come over the next few weeks, so if you don't like it, go pound sand.

Ruth Ellen Brosseau Makes Mockery Of Canadian Political System, Yet Manages To Win

For anyone unaware, Canada had an election last week. Last Monday night to be exact. The Conservative party, led by Stephen Harper, (who is endorsed by http://www.ihatesaturday.com) won in an over-whelming majority. However the major story of the election was the dramatic surge in seats that the NDP won.

I could go into detail about how I think Jack Layton is so far in over his head it's not even funny or I could begin ranting and raving at how stupid the Liberal party was for nominating Michael "I love Harvard" Ignatieff as their leader, how they probably would have won more seats if they nominated a winner from the Special Olympics instead, but there is a much much better story to come out of this 2011 Canadian Election. A story that I believe personifies this website and every single thing it stands for, the message it conveys on a daily basis, which is People Are Idiots and that story is the story of Ruth Ellen Brosseau. Ruth Ellen Brosseau is a 27 year old single mother who was working as assistant manager for Oliver's Pub, a bar on the campus of Carleton University located in Ottawa. She won the riding of Berthier-Maskinonge in Quebec which is a predominantly francophone riding. On the surface, that's a pretty impressive story isn't it? There's only a couple tiny problems.

SHE'S NEVER VISITED THE RIDING NOR IS SHE FLUENT IN FRENCH.

If that's not bad enough, during the campaign (which unlike the American one that goes on for years, our lasts only a couple of weeks) Instead of going door to door to get the message out or actually VISITING THE FUCKING RIDING SHE WAS RUNNING IN, this chick decides to head to LAS VEGAS FOR HER BIRTHDAY.......And the icing on the cake is she's going to make almost $160,000 as an MP... all on the taxpayers dime.

WHAT THE FUCK, QUEBEC?!?!

How the fuck does something like this happen? This should be a complete embarrassment to every citizen in this Country. It should also serve as proof that the NDP is in completely over their head as they let anyone with a pulse run for them. But once again there is a bigger picture here, and that's the fact that 22,484 people voted for someone they had never met and obviously had no knowledge of whatsoever. She can't even speak the same language for fuck sake.

It's bad enough that only 61% of the people bothered to go and vote, it's worse when people go with absolutely no knowledge of the candidates running and blindly support a party. Then these are the same people that will be bitching for the next five years that things aren't changing and the vicious cycle of human stupidity goes round and round and round.

As for Ruth Ellen Brosseau, "Brosseau said she plans to get a tour of her riding from a local mayor in the next few days. "I've heard it's a beautiful place and everybody has been so friendly and I've received so many emails of outreach," she said."

I wonder who translated the emails into English for her.

Originally I had planned this blog post to be about the recent Canadian Election and the surge of the NDP here in Canada-- instead I find myself fascinated with the on going story of Osama Bin Laden's death. If you haven't read the comments on my previous post, please be sure to check them out. Now lets get to the juicy story.

I am completely convinced that Osama Bin Laden is dead, not a question in my mind, however what I do question is when he actually died. There are just too many things that don't add up for me, the purpose of this post is to examine the things that don't add up and hopefully gain some feedback.
The Timing Of The Announcement:

Before Obama's announcement, he was mired in a birth certificate controversy (a controversy I thought was ridiculous but it was there nonetheless) , the US dollar was falling fast and furious as was his approval rating.

The announcement was made Sunday night, another stroke of amazing luck as it made sure that all of the weeks headlines focused on Osama's death, all the other problems took a backseat to the major news of Osama's death and a sense of patriotism (no matter how false it may be) was restored to the USA. Now, today as of this writing, Barack Obama is at Ground Zero, honouring 9/11 victims, spreading American pride and of course, taking advantage of numerous photo ops.

It sure seemed to happen at the perfect time for this Administration.

The killing of Osama:

First, during the president's initial announcement, we were told a vicious fire fight ensued and Osama was armed and had to be shot to death. Then we were told no no, he was a coward and was using his wife as a human shield.. But once the question was asked why did you have to shoot him? the story changed once again to

Leon Panetta director of the CIA, told "PBS NewsHour" that bin Laden "made some threatening moves" that "represented a clear threat to our guys."

threatening moves? like what? reach for the keys to a 747? Ask them if they wanted to save money on car insurance?

Why not just release the video and let us see for ourselves, why is the story constantly changing?

Release Photographic Evidence?

Speaking of not releasing things, Obama decided that no pictures that would actual prove they killed Osama would be released because the photo was "gruesome" and that "it could be inflammatory" if released.

Too gruesome? In 2011? Have you seen the shit they put on CSI from week to week? Society eats up gruesome bullshit, besides they had no issue parading the pictures of Saddam and his two dead sons, oh but this picture might be inflammatory!!! I can really see some angry al-qaeda member sitting around thinking well they didn't show pictures so I'm not mad anymore are you fucking kidding me? You call a press conference at 11pm on a Sunday night to stand there pounding your chest about how you've finally killed Osama Bin Laden and USA #1 yet you won't offer up a picture to prove the bullshit you're spouting because a picture might be too INFLAMMATORY?!?!

One picture that the President was more than happy to release was this one. When it was released, the media was quick to make it an iconic photo stating that the people in the photo were watching the raid as it happened, however according to CIA direction Leon Panneta:

Once those teams went into the compound I can tell you that there was a time period of almost 20 or 25 minutes where we really didn't know just exactly what was going on. And there were some very tense moments as we were waiting...

So the iconic photo may not be that iconic at all, but why would the media let facts get in the way of a real feel-good story!

DNA and Burial at Sea:

It's mighty impressive that the USA was able to do such a quick DNA test to know for a fact it was Osama Bin Laden that they had killed, I was always under the impression it took 12-24 hours for a DNA result, but I guess the USA has super fast laboratory services, so I'll let that slide.

The Burial at Sea however is awfully convenient, and I don't know about you, but I'm really glad they gave him a proper Muslim burial, I mean since he suffered since a proper Muslim Death (an alleged gun shot to the skull) good thing they gave him the whole nine yards and as an added bonus with the burial at sea they get to go oops! body ALL GONE!.

No matter what you believe in regards to when or where Osama Bin Laden died, I think the one thing we can agree on is the US Government has handled this whole situation extremely poorly.

Before I begin my rant, there are a few things that I feel I need to state.

I am going to assume, for the purpose of this blog post, that Osama Bin Laden is in fact dead and was killed Sunday May 1st, 2011. Before you ask, yes I've seen all the news reports, parts of the Presidents speech and Americans celebrating like there was no tomorrow. However what I did not see was any proof. Not that I necessarily want to see pictures of a dead Osama but it would be nice to have actual tangible proof, other than just the President telling me so. Normally I would say the Presidents statement would be enough but I remember a few years back another President telling me all about weapons of mass destruction that Iraq had....

I also find the timing of this, being a few days after the release of Obama's birth certificate to be incredibly beneficial to this Administration, as well the burial at sea certainly doesn't do anything to stop the conspiracy theories that will no doubt pop up in the coming days and weeks. But that's not what this site is about, it's about the fact that people are idiots.

So now that we've established that Osama Bin Laden is, in fact, dead. I have one question

HOW DOES THAT CHANGE ANYTHING?

Before I get put on the terrorist watch list, I better make it clear I am in no way saddened by the death of Bin Laden, and in all honesty it's probably a benefit for this world that someone so filled with hatred is no longer on this planet-- however the reaction to the news of his death is quite mind boggling.

What people seem to be forgetting is the fact that the War on Terror is not over. The TSA body scanners aren't going anywhere, the numerous restrictions for flying are not being loosened, this was a small "victory" in a large global war. It certainly did not call for people rallying outside the White House chanting USA! USA! Perhaps if they were chanting WHAT TOOK SO LONG that would have been more appropriate. Osama was on the run for almost 10 years, other than crowning him the greatest Hide-and-Seek Champion of all time, I'm not sure what all the flag waving & chest thumping was for.

Puzzled by the reaction to the news, I did what anyone living in 2011 would do- I took to the social networks to see what people thought, after reading a countless number of posts celebrating as if the war was over, I thought I would attempt to respectfully provide a small dose of reality, so I posted

Other than the sweetness of revenge, sadly this really doesn't change anything about the world we live in.

To which I got this gem of a response:

I don't care about revenge. I knew someone who kissed her 3 year old son goodbye and went to work and never came home. That kid is 13 now. Think about what he lost. I care about justice and closure for him and everyone like him.

Justice and Closure. Two buzzwords that the media couldn't wait to infuse into this event. Yes the visual of a 3 year old losing their mother in the attacks is a horrible one and one no one should have to experience. But please explain how the murder of a man in Pakistan gives him anything that resembles closure- His mother isn't coming back, the pain he experiences isn't going to suddenly vanish, and anytime the calendar comes close to September, it will be a constant reminder of what happened, with a tragedy like the 9/11 attacks, there will never be true closure.

Justice is a funny one, the Americans love their legal system, INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY they proudly claim anytime one of their celebrities gets arrested for something.. funny I don't remember Osama getting a trial, I'm in no way saying he isn't responsible, but what I am saying is it's amazing how easily and quickly we'll bend the rules when it suits our own objective. It certainly sets a very dangerous precedent for our children and our future.

In the end, almost 10 years later, the US finally got their man. Personally I don't believe in wildly celebrating the death of another human being- but some people can, and that's their prerogative. But if you are, at least acknowledge it for what it is, don't pretend that all is forgotten, everyone can move on with their lives, and the victims of 9/11 have their closure or justice, that was and always was about vengeance and revenge.

Tornado Rips Through The South, Mother Nature Proves She Is Still Boss

There's a good chance if you have a pulse, you've heard about this but just in case you haven't, the full story is here.

The grim death toll from the 24-hour storm period continued to rise, with 294 counted in six states. Nearly 1 million customers were without electricity.

It's times like this that really show that we, as people on this planet, are so insignificant it's not even funny. Now I know that may be difficult for people with unique snowflake syndrome to hear, but the truth is it's 2011 and really how advanced are we as people?

We can't find a cure for something as basic as the common cold, much less find cures for serious diseases such as Aids or Cancer. We can't prevent Tornado's, Tsunami's or Hurricanes and hell we can't even predict Earthquakes, much less do anything to prevent them... but that's okay because on my cellphone I can see what movies are playing at theaters around me, that's good right?? It's too bad the almost 300 dead didn't have the "Tornado avoidance" app on their smartphones...

I don't mean for this to be a dark and gloomy post, or to make light of the disaster, but really, where did this planet lose it's way? Today we're so fucking obsessed with such nonsense like the royal wedding (which will be a whole blog rant in itself later this week). We crave such horseshit drama like "reality" tv when in fact it contains no reality at all. We cling to social networking like it's important. How many of you have updated your facebook/twitter/myspace/whateverthefuck in the past 6 hours? The worst part? I have too. I have a twitter for this very blog (cheap plug time http://www.twitter.com/ihatesaturdaycm) and a facebook under a nom de plume- where all I do is plug this blog as much as I possible can and hell I even a facebook page for this blog! (facebook.com/peopleareidiots). But the sad reality is, in this day and age, if I want people to read this blog I have to! We live in a day and age where people think updating with "Sushi for dinner, yum yum" or "UGH. Boss is making me stay late! darn!" is important and once again we've lost sight of the bigger picture.

This blog post really took some turns considering it started out with the tornado disaster and ended with me complaining about social networking. So I guess if there's something you should take away from this post, it's the fact that people are idiots.. We are major fucking idiots.

Once again, we can't see the Forrest for the trees.. sadly that seems to be a running theme of this century.

Can't We All Just Get Along?

A famous Seinfeld episode once included the line The thing about eating the Black and White cookie, Elaine, is you want to get some black and some white in each bite. Nothing mixes better than vanilla and chocolate And yet somehow racial harmony eludes us. If people would only look to the cookie all our problems would be solved.

Mark McHenry thought he was a loyal customer to the Landmark Steakhouse in California, the workers at the steakhouse didn't see it the same way. One day McHenry noticed that the restaurant had changed the name on his receipt to McStinkynigger and Mc Nigshit.

What does Mr. McHenry do after seeing this? Well he did was anyone TRUE RED BLOODED AMERICAN WOULD DO.... He filed a fucking lawsuit for monetary compensation.

I want to make it abundantly clear that I am in NO WAY approving what the mental midgets at the steakhouse did. What they did was rude and offensive and fucking idiotic. Anyone responsible for the name change should be severely reprimanded and fired.

Does this shit really need to clog up an already over-worked court system? McHenry is suing for "mental anguish, embarrassment and humiliation" Really? Embarrassment? They changed his name on a receipt, they didn't print a 50 foot poster calling him racist names. You didn't see me suing the chick who told me point blank she'd rather date Chewbacca, I took it like a man and what happened? She had to drop out of college because she was pregnant and didn't know who the father was, circle of life baby.

If McHenry wanted to tell everyone he knew what happened and boycott the restaurant and never go back I would be all for it. If he contacted every newspaper and television station in a 50 mile radius of the restaurant I would be completely on his side... but why money? How is a financial gain going to change anything that happened?

Why is the answer ALWAYS MONEY? You wronged me so give me boatloads of money and that will make up for the 5 milliseconds of embarrassment I may have felt?!?!

From McHenry's lawsuit:

During the Corona del Mar Christmas Walk on Dec. 5, the suit says, McHenry and some friends stopped by Landmark, where a manager let them skip the long line and escorted into the bar through the kitchen. He had a few drinks, paid his tab and left, then later returned.
The next day, the suit says, McHenry reviewed his receipts and was "shocked and appalled" to see racial slurs used in the space designated for a customer name.

So special treatment is fine as long as you're the one benefiting from it? Say can everyone who was stuck in line December the 5th SUE McHenry for cutting them? Surely they all suffered mental anguish and embarrassment for having to wait even longer!

It should be noted that The suit also claims that the employee who used the slurs texted and left numerous messages of apology for the incidents, but that the "desperate apologies" were aimed to protect the employee and not out of true remorse, making him "feel worse."

Well of course, why acknowledge an apology when you see big dollar signs in your future! The employee has already apologized numerous times- sincere or not he didn't tell McHenry to go pound sand or defend his ridiculous actions. How can a lawsuit and possible financial gain make this situation better?

Again let me reiterate that I am in no way condoning the behaviour by one or two bad apples at Landmark who changed the name, but this really doesn't need to go this far! Maybe I'm just old school but I still believe in the saying of sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

But of course that's not the society we live in, we're now a bunch of wussies and pansies. We have to go walking on egg shells and hope we don't offend anyone, because if we do, instead of an apology and a handshake, it's a lawyer and a lawsuit.

UP IN SMOKE: The Quest To Legalize Marijuana

There are so many qualifying statements to make I'm not even sure where to begin, so please bare with me.

This blog post is a result of a discussion I had with a friend (we'll call her Lisa S.. no no that's too obvious, L. Simpson) regarding the possibility of legalizing marijuana in the future. The friend is question is a daily marijuana smoker, (he would be offended if I called him addicted as he only does it because he enjoys it.. yes I roll my eyes just like you did) As you know, or you should know by now. I'm as straight edge as they come, no alcohol, cigarettes or illegal drugs for me, personally I think alcohol should be illegal as I think it's much more dangerous than marijuana, but that's a whole other blog post for a different time.

The purpose of this blog post is examining why marijuana is illegal.

My friend and I kicked around many ideas and issues surrounding the whole marijuana debate, it's stigma in society, comparing it to prohibition, the gateway drug theory, but in the end it comes down to one important factor. THE GOVERNMENT CANT MAKE MONEY ON IT.

Yes folks it comes down to what most Governmental decisions come down to- The all mighty dollar. The Government has not come up with a way to guarantee themselves profit with regards to marijuana.

The Comparison To Alcohol:

Some people are quick to make the case between marijuana and alcohol- saying that prohibition failed therefore the same should apply to the "war on marijuana". The key difference is the effort required for home-made alcohol. It's 2011 and yes there are some people who brew their own stuff at home, but how many of those people sell their homemade cocktails? Making alcohol is a complex process especially compared to growing pot where all you need, for the most part, is some plants and lighting.

If you want a beer your first thought isn't to call your local beer-dealer and see if he has any. You goto the store or bar and pay for it, paying tax to the Government while doing so and go on your way- either way the Government gets their piece.

Looking back at history, when the Government abolished Prohibition, the black market alcohol makers went out of business meaning if you wanted alcohol a portion of the price you paid was going to the Government and back in the 1930s that became a huge revenue stream like it still is today. The problem today is, The Government can't guarantee that same profit if they legalize marijuana since the process of growing plants is so simple an idiot can do it (insert stoner joke here).

If the Government were to legalize it, the local dealer down the street does not disappear like the black market alcohol makers did back in the 1930s, if anything the dealer becomes bigger and the Government still does not get their piece. Sure they could set up licensed dealers and have "weed bars" and designated places to buy and sell, but it still won't stop the local dealers from growing and selling it "under the table" and without taxation.

So unless the Government is able to find a way to severely undercut the dealers and sell marijuana dirt cheap forcing the local dealers out of business, it will be a proposition that loses money, and even though most Governments are pros at losing money, it's not something you are going to see legal in this country anytime soon.

It always comes down to money, to further prove this point you just have to look to the Ontario Governments' stance on UFC. For years UFC President Dana White wanted to run events in Toronto and every time he was told no it's a blood sport, it's too dangerous and we have morals that won't allow it..... Then a report was done stating that a UFC event held in Toronto would help bring in multiple millions of dollars for the city, and what do you know, Next Weekend April 30th at the Skydome UFC 129 will be held.

The Government has no problem flip-flopping if the right amount of money is involved

For the right price, anything is achievable.

I know it would have been better if I had released this post on April the 20th, however just to show you pot smokers that us straight edge guys can be cool too, I've released it at 4:20 this afternoon!

US Government Has Nothing Better To Do, Shuts down Poker Sites

Late last week the United States Government decided to launch an all-out attack on The Internet Poker industry.

Eleven people, including the founders of the three largest poker sites open to U.S. players, were charged by a federal grand jury with bank fraud, money laundering and violating gambling laws. The government also is seeking to recover $3 billion from the companies.

The FBI had shut down two of the sites, Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars, by Friday evening and were working to do the same with the third, Absolute Poker. Online visitors were greeted with a message saying, "This domain name has been seized by the F.B.I. pursuant to an Arrest Warrant," and an enumeration of federal anti-gambling statutes and penalties

Before I continue, let me clarify exactly what this means:

If you are an American citizen you are banned from playing poker at any of the sites listed above, you may log into watch or play with "play money" but cannot take part in any real money games.

I don't know about you guys but I, for one, am glad the United States has solved every other problem they had and were able to focus on that god damn terrorist organization known as The Online Poker Industry!

For a country that likes to think they are better than the rest of the world and pride themselves on being the land of the free The Government sure displays a lot of control over their people telling them what they can and can't do.

Now in the interest of full disclosure I think I should admit that I write this blog rant with a certain bias as I've played at all 3 of the places that were affected by the raid, and although I don't currently play online poker (due to reasons that would only trigger another long blog rant) This raid does not effect me as living in Canada, I'm still actually free to do whatever I please in my own home. That's not the case in the US it seems.

The US Government being a bully is nothing new and this war on the online gambling industry has been going on for years, back in 2006 UIGEA, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was shoved through Congress in the early hours of the morning. Bill Frist and John Kyl were the leaders behind the bill, they believe gambling is a sin and could potentially tear families apart. The bill made it difficult for players in the located in US to fund their online account, but due to the poor wording and overall ambiguity of the bill, most of the poker sites were able to maneuver around the law and still allow players from the States. Again, being Canadian this had no direct impact on me, however I find the hypocrisy of the US Government extremely offensive.

"These defendants concocted an elaborate criminal fraud scheme, alternately tricking some U.S. banks and effectively bribing others to assure the continued flow of billions in illegal gambling profits," Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, said in a statement.

I'm certainly turned on, nothing arouses me more than when lawyers use big SEXY BUZZWORDS. Say it with me, ELABORATE. CRIMINAL. FRAUD. SCHEME. ILLEGAL. GAMBLING. PROFITS. I can't be the only one who got a laugh out of the "tricking some US banks" Yes the same banks that would have given a monkey a loan using it's own poop as collateral, the same US banks that caused the joke that is known as the US Economy, oh those tricky gambling sites!

Also please don't get ILLEGAL gambling profits confused with the Billions of LEGAL gambling profits that are made by Las Vegas hotels and casinos each year, that gambling is fine, because the Government gets their piece of that. But if your 70 year old grandmother want to play a $5 poker tournament online at 3 in the morning from the comfort of her own (nursing) home, well that's too bad because that's ILLEGAL.

That's what angers me the most about this situation, it sets a terrible precedent of lies and hypocrisy, if gambling is wrong and destroys families then shut down Las Vegas, Atlantic City and all the other land based casinos, but of course that's not the case, is it? In the end it all comes down to the all mighty dollar! 3 billion dollars is a lot of income tax revenue that the IRS and The Government isn't seeing, so in their minds, they had to do something- But lets call a spade a spade, this has nothing to do with protecting families from the horrors of gambling, this isn't a won't somebody think of the children moment, it's a case of greedy, power and control. Nothing more, Nothing less.

Land of the free? I think not.

Why I Can't Care About The NBA (Or Other Professional Sports)

Before I dive into today's topic I think it's important to stress the fact that I used to be a huge sports fan. Back in middle school and high school I knew practically anyone and everyone who played in any of the big 4 leagues (NBA, NHL, NFL ,MLB), I knew their stats, jersey numbers and middle names. So I'm not coming at this as a nerd who is just anti-jock, there was a point in time where I really enjoyed Professional Sports... Of course that all changed once I grew up and entered the real world.

The NBA regular season came to an end Wednesday night and it was a night that could not come fast enough for my hometown Toronto (C)Raptors.

The Raptors finished 27th out of 30th in the league with a record of 22 wins and 60 losses. That's a stunning winning percentage of 26.8%. Since I'm in a good mood lets round that up to 27%. Now lets take a look at the (C)raptors payroll.

That's not a typo. The CRaptors players combined made almost SEVENTY MILLION DOLLARS.... 27% winning percentage... SEVENTY MILLION DOLLARS. I can't be the only person who sees that as grossly disgusting and offensive.

Imagine if you showed up to work and performed at a 27% efficiency rate, how long would you last? You'd be lucky if you weren't fired by lunch, you certainly would not be signed by the company to a 2-3 year deal where you were getting paid millions of dollars that were guaranteed.

Anytime I tried to watch a basketball game this season all I could focus on was the fact that these jackasses are getting paid millions of dollars and are fucking awful at their job.

Back in the day, hell I'll admit it, I was rocking some sports jerseys, but these days I just can't bring myself to care. I am unable to rally behind a bunch of overpaid brats who are playing for nobody but themselves. I see it for what it is, a business. Professional athletes don't give a fucking fuck about the city they play for, sure some will do some PR maybe goto a school, talk to kids and maybe even start some charities but let's not lose sight of the fact they are paid loads of money for nothing more than playing a game, and if one team doesn't want them they'll go searching and find another team that will take them. There is no such thing as team loyalty, it's all about loyalty to the all mighty dollar.

Perhaps the older I get ( although I'm not even 30) the more cynical I get but I don't understand people being so invested in a professional sports team, you know the people I'm talking about. The ones with the banners and the jerseys and the t-shirts and they can't go somewhere because their team is playing that day. They cheer with their heart and soul for this team of overpaid athletes and for what? They won't give a standing ovation to the cute blonde at Starbucks who makes their coffee but they'll yell and scream for Jose Calderon making a 3 point basket? He's putting a ball through a fucking hoop, big fucking deal. He doesn't come cheer you on while you make the Big Macs so why the fuck are you acting like a buffoon while he does his.
