First off, the 3rd MelodyTrip.com podcast is online. This one's about Country Thunder and this weekend I'll be out at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival.

Politicians and joking

I really like this video and I think it makes a good point:

But can we just remind our politicians that they just aren't good at making ANY jokes, whether they are trying to or not? I think President Bush is actually funnier when he isn't trying to be funny. It's when he's trying to make a joke that he just isn't funny. He usually screws up the delivery. I don't think Kerry was joking either. That's a bunch of crap. I think Kerry meant to say what he said. Kerry has never been funny. He's just John Kerry without a sense of humor like he's always been.

I also think what he said had some truth to it, but was also pretty untrue. I do think there is a segment of society that does end up in the armed forces because it's their last stop. I think a lot of kids end up in the service because they didn't fit anywhere else because of their social and economic background. They didn't do well in school, they lived in a town with crappy jobs and they needed money. I think the armed forces serve that segment of society.

But I'd be interested in finding out just how many enter the service just because it's a last ditch effort and they feel like there is nothing else for them. It's probably not the majority at all.

Everyone enters a branch of service by choice -- so what brings a person to that decision? I think a lot of people join the service because they want a military career that will lead to a career in law enforcement, medicine, or aviation. It's a great way to begin a career that would be otherwise too expensive to start as a civilian. Just because Kerry was privileged and got great grades so he could get into Yale (like Bush) doesn't mean everyone should be held to the same standards or be sent to the Army...which isn't the case. He just made it sound that way. Lame.

That's what April says anyway...saw her on some show and said she looked coked out. Blames Jay-Z. I dunno...I'm still broken up about what has happened to Whitney Houston, so if Beyone IS in fact coked out, then I have chosen the position of denial.

Meanwhile...a little bird told me Ricky Henderson's house in all-white-tukee looks like a bottle of pepto blew up inside of it. Sounds like Ricky lost the battle of the paint to his wife and daughters. It's OK, Ricky, we still know you're a man's man. I grew up as an A's fan and I KNOW!

I think I might have to start watching this show.

But you should have already assumed she may just be a pothead. That would explain her recent admission that she's not too smart and also forgetful. With her vast fortune and free time combined with her celebrity status, there's no doubt in my mind Ms. Hilton has been exposed to a variety of "lifestyle temptations" in her day.

So is this a bag of weed in her overly-priced handbag? Do we care? Does it make her a better or worse person? Does this now mean she -- behind closed doors -- wears Birkenstocks (the horror!) and hemp and smokes a fattie while listening to Jack Johnson and Sublime and rolling her celebutante fatties on top of a High Times magazine? Will her next fashion look be Santa Cruz chic? A hoody, a long skirt and some beads? Will she pull a McConaughey and take a trip to Berkeley to play bongos naked in the drum circle? Will she join Jimmy Buffett and tell us to Save The Manatee? Will she become a true dirty hippie and stop bathing? Shop at Whole Foods? Go vegan? Tout the wonderful facts Al Gore speaks of in his film An Inconvenient Truth?

I would rather enjoy a stoned hippie version of Paris...wouldn't that be refreshing? Dreadlocks and rastafarianism? Ok. Now I'm getting carried away.

A vapid heiress who can't even help checking out her own knockers...

The one and only...is he Paris' inspiration for the current contents of her purse?

1. I like Heroes. It's interesting. And to my horror, I just found out it sci-fi! Eek. I can't believe I fell for a sci-fi show. But it's about people with gifts like claivoyance and occult-stuff like that, which I dig. So if that's sci-fi, I'll take it. A superhuman cheerleader whose injuries heal instantly? It's about time! I really like the painter character who paints things that haven't come to pass yet. I'll be tuning in to this show for sure.

2. I also *think* I like Ugly Betty on ABC. I say think because I haven't watched a full episode yet. I have seen short videos on the ABC website and I must admit, I love the smart premise. I do think it's so utterly basic and predictable, but in a brilliant "why didn't I think of that?" kind of way. It also brought in 16 million viewers with its debut, making it the most watched thing around! So now I HAVE to watch it. I'm going to catch up now and watch the first episode online.

Should I buy the new Killers album?

But to be honest, there has been not much time to be a good whore lately. Too much to battle with in this whore's personal life! Too much to do! But I finally just realized I'd be remiss to not mention the cool new video from Weird Al Yankovic. It's called White and Nerdy.

One thing that has been on my mind lately is the new Jessica Simpson song and how much it sounds like a classic 80's vintage Madonna song. A Public Affair is what we've WANTED Madonna to sound like for years. But now Jessica sounds like that. And that's OK. Just as long as that bitch doesn't take John Mayer off the market! I never believed her dating him would end in anything productive anyway...total PR stunt! Oh, and I met her once and she's not a bitch at all. At least she wasn't then. That was when her hot single was Irresistable and she was hardly a household name.

Another thing this lazy PopWhore has noticed is the new TMX Elmo doll. While I don't know what the hell TMX is supposed to mean, this is one cool Elmo doll. I almost want one, but I don't know what I'd do with one if I had one.

Let's see what else is going on...oh yeah, Bill Clintin is pissed.

I can't believe Fox Snooze Channel had a democrat of such high caliber on their uber-Republican channel.

You simply must make way for the Greatest. You see, here's what happened. I was listening to some new Seger songs on MySpace, because I'm positively Seger-silly and you should know that. But I still can't decide between him and Bob Dylan right now as far as albums are concerned...which to buy first? I can't do two albums at once man. I gotta digest more than one at a time and I'm still working on the Chili Peppers' double album.

But I digress. Anyway, I'm listening to this here Seger song, Wait for Me, and I'm thinking...hmmm...this really sounds like the kind of love song a man would write if he were really in love...with HIS MOTORCYCLE!

Pluto may be gone from our solar system, but the former planet is not forgotten. Actually, here is a pretty funny blog about the whole 9th planet debacle. I guess we only have eight planets now...and somewhere, there's still a group of kids getting this question wrong on a test regardless.

Putting the "whore" back in "pop" is the new, morning after pill you can pop. Oh, if only this had been around in Courtney Love's mom's day...and in Paris Hilton's mom's day...you get the picture. At any rate, it's not your momma's birth control!

On my list of movies to see is still the Al Gore "An Inconvenient Truth" documentary. Yes, I want the book too. Though I also might have to sneak off to see Little Miss Sunshine soon because I have heard so many good things about it!

I am above discussing That Damn Movie, which I will hereby refer to as TDM. I think there is a legion of folks online who care about it much more than I. I am waiting for a truly scary flick, "Liquids On a Plane" to come out. Now that would put fear in the hearts of freedom-loving peoples everywhere! The shock and awe of it! It's too much to handle!

Spike Lee has a documentary on Hurricane Katrina tonight on HBO. He kicks ass. Those poor people got burnt bad with that whole thing, start to finish...if we ever finish off that mess. We're nowhere near! It's a sad thing to see in America.

Love it! Just like I loved Disturbed's over of the Phil Collins song "In the Air Tonight," I am loving their latest Phil cover of "Land of Confusion." It sounds great! Which Phil Collins song could be next? Wouldn't "A Groovy Kind of Love" sound great in heavy metal? How about "Can't Hurry Love?" Not that would be awesome! "Take Me Home" would be too obvious but "Sussudio" would be great!

Listen at once to Disturbed's version of "Land of Confusion!" Disturbed tells Blender magazine the song is still relevant in today's "chaotic" times.

I'm not falling for that one. I did not see a poo, therefore the poo didn't exist. Flavor of Love stooped a little low with that poop bit! I'll coin that one the great poop stoop. Supposedly, "Somethin'" pooped in the foyer after elimination...giving new meaning to "elimination." At any rate, I'm still a sucker for this show. So far, I think there are maybe two or three really hot chicks for Flav to choose from this season. My personal favorite is "Buckwild" though. I think she may be perfect for him. She's a 'hood black chick trapped in a white chick's body -- total wigga, at least the way she talks anyway... So funny! I might have to root for her. I'd love to see her with a platinum diamond grill over her gap-toothed mouth!
