You could be pulling a silvery trout or fat salmon out of the Tyne, Tweed or Coquet or from one of the managed reservoirs in the county, such as Fontburn.
And if nothing is biting? You'll have filled your lungs with good, clean air and enjoyed some spectacular countryside.

Fancy seeing what is was like living in the remote Borders during the times of the Border Reivers?

Boffins Track Wild Goats

The wild goat herd on Yeavering Bell are to be tracked by boffins from Newcastle University using GPS.
The herd, which numbers around 150, have been in the Cheviot Hills for centuries and the name Yeavering Bell means 'Hill of the Goats.'
You can visit the herd yourself by walking up the hill, which is just beyond Wooler in north Northumberland, and topped by an impressive Iron Age hillfort.

Cragside Illuminated

Popular National Trust property Cragside Hall is being lit-up by a dazzling light-show for the outdoor winter festival Northumberland Lights.
The Electric Estate is designed to take visitors on a dream-like journey through a 'fantasy forest' with sound and lights, storytellers and inventions.
Cragside was the home of Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong and is just a couple of miles outside Rothbury in the heart of the county.
Ticket prices are £11.50 for adults, £8.50 concession or £32 for a family (2 adults and two children.) Telephone 01665 833751, and the light show runs from today to Sunday 13th November and then Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th November.
