3d design and presentation makes it easy for the client to understand design proposals quickly and comment more effectively in the early stage of the project. Here at Templeman Design we have found the use of 3d design and presentation has improved client interaction and helps to ensure projects proceed from concept to detailed design more quickly.

Our preferred software is Google Sketchup, which is easy to learn and allows 3d proposals to be produced quickly and cost effectively.

Mayor's Award for Design in the Environment 2010

Templeman Design: Overall Winner in Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Mayor's Award for the Design in the Environment 2010.

Our design for the new office and warehouse for Dorplan Architectural Ironmongery (see previous post below) won best Commercial Building Project and was voted Overall Winner as best design for 2010.

The awards were held at the Kings Lynn Town Hall on the 4th May 2010 and presented by members of the Borough Council's planning team, with the awards presented by the Mayor, Michael Pitcher.

New Headquarters - Dorplan Architectural Hardware

From inception to completion, Templeman Design were commissioned by Dorplan Architectural Hardware to design and project manage the delivery of thier new prestige office and warehouse development in Downham Market, in Norfolk.

Dorplan, were relocating to Norfolk and their brief was to design a unique facility, to promote an image of quality to establish their business in Norfolk.

Early design concepts were illustated by the use of 3d modeling and the final design scheme is shown below.

Once the scheme was agreed, detailed design drawings and specifications were prepared for Architectural , Structural, and Mechanical and Electrical elements of the design, Building Regulations approval obtained. The project was tendered and following the tender review, awarded to Mansell Construction.

Work commenced in October 2008 and was recently completed on Friday 17th April 2009. Templeman Design carried out contract administration and management of the contract. The Project was completed on programme and on budget to the satisfaction of our client.

Quality and Environmental

As can be seen from the logo's on the right of this page we hold NQA third party accreditation for our quality and environmental procedures. This is UKAS approved certification.

Every year NQA carry out an audit of our quality and environmental systems and procedures to ensure we operate the business in accordance with our accredited procedures and therefore maintain our third party certification. The audit for 2008 has just been successfully completed,with only 1 minor non confromance recorded by the NQA external auditor Mr Alan Arras.

Current Design Projects

Following on from the completion of our scheme for the new Customer Information Centre on the ground floor of the main council offices at Kings Court,(see image right) we

have secured further commissions for design and contract administration with the Borough Council.

We currently have three projects in various stages of design on or site in construction.

The extension to Dow nham Market Fitness Centre has recently been completed on site. Templeman Design provided a multi-discipline design service covering the Architectural, Structural and Mechanical and Electrical elements of the project. Our involvement was from the inception of the project and required the production of 3d visuals to enable our client to fully understand the scope of the work and speed up internal approval procedures. We administered the construction which was completed on time and on budget by Mansell Construction of Swaffham. External and internal photo's shown below.

St James Swimming Pool was damaged by fire in May 2007. Templeman Design were appointed by the Borough Council to design and co-ordinate the installation of temporary changing facilities and for the re-design of the changing area and fitness suite.

We again provided a multi-discipline design service and 3d visuals were prepared to illustrate the scheme to the council. The council took the

opportunity to improve facilities with a larger fitness suite and new steam room and sauna.

We also produced an animated visual which was posted to the council's web site to advise customers of the scheme proposals. Works are progressing well on site, the Main contractor for this contract being EN Suiter of Kings Lynn. As a final touch to the scheme we have just produced a proposal for the end wall of the swimming pool itself. This is shortly to be installed on site by Altro using their 'Digiclad' system, this being the largest visual Altro have produced for UK installation.

Our most recent instruction from the council relates to further works at King's Court, the main council offices. We are carrying out a feasibility study on heating and lighting improvements to the offices on floors 1-3 together with upgrades to the staff toilets and communal areas of the building. The aim of the project is provide more control over the working environment within the building by installing a heating and lighting systems which can be controlled to suit the different areas and uses of the building. The new system will also be more cost effective to run.

Other recent instructions include a structural appraisal of industrial units to establish if they can be over roofed and a feasibility study for the sub-division of 36 Oldmeadow Road a large industrial unit on the Hardwick Industrial Estate in Kings Lynn. To illustrate our proposals, instead of just preparing basic plans we produced a 3d animation of the proposals showing the transformation of the unit in to 3 separate units.

Office Expansion

New Extended Office Complete

The extension and upgrade of our King's Lynn Office is now complete.

We have have expanded in to the adjoining unit and now occupy No's 2,3 and 4 at North Lynn Business Village.

New expansion has provided a new reception area, additional office space, large board room with presentation facilities and archive storage space.

Welcome to the new blog for Templeman Design.

Here you will find regular updates on the progress of current projects and details of new projects we have recently been awarded.

If you were not aware, we specialize in Defence projects and are currently providing multi-discipline or single discipline design services for Babcock Dyncorp and their supply chain under Regional Prime Contract East. This contract covers the majority of RAF and Army sites in the eastern region.

We also provide design service for USAF projects at Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Alconbury and Molesworth as part of a design term commission with Hyder Consulting.

Other clients include Local Authorities, NHS and private commercial clients.

This blog will be updated at least weekly and as it develops will provide a record of recent projects and events.
