ArtTest_Road

2014-04-20T13:38:00.002-07:00

I was planning to have some more foliage to share on here but that will hopefully be up soon.

I've been working on an art test for a position at a company, which can be seen below. =)

Plant Concept_01_Bamboo

2014-04-15T10:34:00.002-07:00

Before I got carried away with more sculpting, I decided I should get started on some plant-life concept for this island. Today's piece is some bamboo.

Also, I finally found out how to stop blogspot from "auto-enhancing" aka ramping contrast up to full on all my uploaded images!! Unfortunately, that also means I now have a google+ account...

Map, Bull and Ant

2014-04-07T13:07:00.001-07:00

I've decided to start a project that will force me to concept and create things I haven't touched on much in the past.

As a result, I thought of making my own island and populating it with creatures, plants, characters etc.

This will also lead me to create landscapes and environments.

To begin, here's a map I drew of said island.

It's not 100% accurate; more to get a general sense of landmarks which I can build upon later.

I've also been working on a couple of sculpts that are still WIP.

So here they are! A bull and an ant. =)

UPDATE: Beast of Burden.

Despite looking pretty unbreakable, the bull design wasn't doing it for me so I've changed it to a sort of goat creature. I want this to end up as something that would be used as extra man-power on a farm and/or used for sport by pitting them against each other.

SkyPirate Girl Scorpion Coloured

2014-03-08T12:07:00.003-08:00

Here's the low poly version with 1k textures that I'm planning to rig and animate.

Below it are some renders from the high poly sculpt in Zbrush.
Not bad considering it's gone from 24million polys to roughly 4000 quads.

Unfortunately blogspot has distorted my renders again but you can just about make out all the detail I've sculpted in..

SkyPirate Girl Scorpion

2014-03-03T12:51:00.002-08:00

For some reason Blogger has darkened this image a lot so a better version can be seen here:

http://www.spencerhillartist.com/#!Greyscale-SkyPirate-Girl-Sculpt/zoom/c1han/image1608

She's all UV'd and ready to paint so that will be the next thing on my list. =)

UPDATE: I've coloured over a few renders in photoshop to try out different colour schemes.
A lot of detail is still missing, this is just block colour overlays.

Since she's a sky pirate, I want colours that encourage an aggressive appearance so the pinks and softer colours don't really work.

Siren Sculpt & Seasons Greetings

2013-12-29T10:33:00.003-08:00

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

As a result, I've had less time to work on these but I have a new one to show!

I've also decided that, instead of a male and female version of each character I had planned, I'm only doing one of each. So I'll be taking the male demon forward along with this one and the next 2.

I've roughed out a shape I like for the Golem character next.

Once I'm 100% happy with her, she'll be made to look more rock-like in her appearance rather than fat/flesh.

Demon WIP_3 & Female Siren

2013-12-11T08:48:00.002-08:00

Finished the detailing on the female demon character and made a base mesh for the next model on my list.

There will be a male version of the bottom image to come after.

Demon WIP_2 & Female Demon

2013-12-09T08:25:00.000-08:00

I've (I think) finished sculpting on the male demon and all it needs now is a little colour, which I'm going to do in bulk with the other 6 models I'm planning to sculpt.

Below these shots you'll see the WIP sculpt for the female demon too.

Demon WIP

2013-12-04T13:23:00.005-08:00

Firstly, I am still working on the old man from the previous post. I'm just not gonna share him again until I'm confident about the cloth I'm currently sculpting for him. =)

In the meantime, here's a demon I've been working on over today and yesterday.

As always, any feedback is much appreciated!

Old Man Sculpt WIP_02

2013-11-24T08:40:00.001-08:00

Arm sculpt update for the head from a couple days ago.

I'm not sure if I've gone over-board with the wrinkles but I want him looking quite old so I'm happy with it for now.

Sketch Development (Another WIP)

As the title says.

Old Man Sculpt WIP

2013-11-21T16:09:00.000-08:00

I wanted to do some sculpting today and came out with this.

Pretty happy with it so I'm going to carry it on into a full character in my spare time.

New Website

2013-10-22T10:45:00.001-07:00

I've now got a website to showcase my work at spencerhillartist.com

I'll still be using this blog for WIP and final results too though. =)

Another Gift & My First Attempt at Caricature.

2013-08-15T11:29:00.000-07:00

Title says it all.

This is a family portrait for my Dads birthday coming up.

(He's the one in the glasses).

I'm not 100% happy with it but still happy enough to call it done, since it's my first try at anything to do with caricature.

Misc Drawing (life/concept/development drawing)

2013-08-03T10:26:00.003-07:00

I did these not long ago and never actually posted them.

I think I was meaning to develop them further into coloured characters but never got round to it.

Maybe I'll get back to them at some point.

Personal Work Update.

2013-06-25T09:09:00.004-07:00

Some recent work.

Character Design 3D Update_02

2013-06-10T10:50:00.000-07:00

I haven't spent much time on it during the last couple of days but he is UV-mapped now and half the texturing is done. This has been done through Photoshop instead of ZBrush.

Except for the lines on the body, which were done in Mudbox.

Character Design 3D Update

2013-06-02T10:11:00.000-07:00

I'll admit I've been indulging in the rare chance to enjoy the sun a bit this week, so I'm not quite as far ahead on this model as I'd like to be. Still, the main body mesh is looking nice now so I thought I'd share this update.

I'm now working on the crystal parts of his body. Once they're done, it's a quick trip to ZBrush to fine tune the models.

After that I'll be making his sidekick and then all the items that both include. (see below post).

UPDATE_01

Done for today I think so here's the latest screen shot of how he's looking.

Back crystal and beard-crystal done.

UPDATE_02

I've tweaked some of the topology of the body mesh and finished the head and shoulder crystals.

Just the elbows and knees to go now.

UPDATE_03

Crystals Done.

On to clothes/etc and the sidekick!

UPDATE_04

Sidekick!

The crystal shapes aren't perfect yet but he's getting there. =)

I've left out all the stitching as I plan to add it in Zbrush once everything is modelled.

UPDATE_05

The Outcast now has clothes.

Once he's been UV-mapped I can then take him into ZBrush and properly bring the details/colours to life.

I just realised I forgot the flask, so here he is with it. =)

Character Design Test

2013-05-27T05:48:00.001-07:00

I've spent the last week on a test brief for a position at a games company and thought I'd share it here as I intend to continue it into a 3D state.

The brief was to design an RPG/Adventure style character with a side-kick and a few items.

There's little else to explain for now so enjoy the images below =)
