The night of the 2009 Grammys will forever be known as the awful night Chris Brown sent Rihanna to the hospital. Now we learn, it is also the worst night of Chris Brown's life, what he calls "the deepest regret of my life, the biggest mistake."

Talking to the Mirror at Elton John's AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, Brown opened up about the assault, his relationship with Rihanna and what that night did to his career.

"Sometimes you row, you fight, with the one you love and things get said, stuff spirals," Brown told the Mirror of that fateful night and added that he worked hard to win Rihanna back. "But she loves me – what can I say? I’m forgiven… but, yes, I worked hard for it."

The two singers often display their affection on Rih's Instagram account. Just last week, the beauty posted photos of her 25th birthday celebrations, in which Brown was very much front and center. Though reports of their relationship have been inconsistent (are they together, are they not?) it seems, from Brown's words and to many people's dismay, that the two are very much in love.

Rihanna herself spoke to "Rolling Stone" magazine last month and said her relationship with Brown is different now, that he makes her happy, and that "even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake." She even accompanied him to his probation hearing recently, a probation he's on to begin with for assaulting her.

Brown, 23, also spoke to the Mirror about becoming a Hollywood pariah and said it doesn't bother him anymore. "They don’t know me and they don’t know us," he said. As for Seth MacFarlane's Oscars joke heard around the world (in introducing "Django Unchained," MacFarlane said, "This is the story of a man fighting to get back his woman, who's been subjected to unthinkable violence. Or as Chris Brown and Rihanna call it, a date movie"), Brown said he's used to being criticized.

In other Chris Brown news, there's a rumor swirling around that he and Rihanna are set to tie the knot this summer. According to Perez Hilton, the songstress has been "sporting a diamond rock on her ring finger" and the two even hashed out the details of their ceremony, including pre-rolled joints and half naked waiters.

''Nigeria is currently embroiled in a diplomatic stand-off with Brazil over an incidence that occurred at the University of Lagos.
Female students from Brazil who are part of a one year exchange programme at the university, refused to stay in the hostel accommodations provided for them on campus even after school authorities provided generating sets for the rooms, installed air-conditioner units, and equipped the rooms with water purifiers, DSTV, internet access and working telephone lines.
The foreign students turned down the rooms and asked instead for accommodation in any of the reputable five star Hotels in Lagos. The Nigerian programme coordinator refused, telling them that their Nigerian counterparts in Brazil had settled down into the student accommodations provided for them in Brazil so there was no reason the Brazilians shouldn't stay in Moremi Hall in Unilag.
Unbeknown to authorities, the foreign students contacted their Embassy claiming that they were in fear for their lives and this led to Interpol agents being called in to 'rescue' the Brazilians from Unilag. This has now resulted in a tense exchange of words between officials of the two countries but the Brazilians are unrelenting in their decision to remove their citizens from University of Lagos and from the exchange programme.''

Two Identical Belgian deaf brothers chose to die instead of going blind

Two identical and deaf Belgian brothers have been euthanized after the inseparable middle-aged pair found out they were going blind and would never see each other again.

Marc and Eddy Verbessem were 45. They lived and worked together as cobblers and last month they died together after a Belgium hospital accepted their request to be euthanized.

Belgium is one of three countries where euthanasia is legal for non-terminally ill patients.

The brothers feared they would lose their only way of communicating with each other after learning they were going blind, The Telegraph reported.

They said goodbye to their parents and brother last month before both being euthanised by lethal injection, the week.co.uk reported.

Another hospital had earlier denied the men's request to be euthanised, but Professor Wim Distelmans, who accepted their request, said they met the criteria - in that they must be in unbearable physical or psychological pain.

The twins' brother Dirk Verbessem defended their decision.

"Many will wonder why my brothers have opted for euthanasia because there are plenty of deaf and blind that have a 'normal' life," The Telegraph reported him as saying.

"But my brothers trudged from one disease to another. They were really worn out."

His brothers were both going blind with glaucoma and Eddy had a deformed spine and had recently undergone heart surgery, The Telegraph reported.

"The great fear that they would no longer be able to see, or hear, each other and the family was, for my brothers, unbearable," he said.

Dr David Durfour, who treated the brothers, said their physical condition was strongly deteriorating and it was a "weight off their shoulders" when they learnt their request to be euthanised had been accepted, the Huffington Post reported.

"They were happy and relieved that a date was set to end their suffering."

The day of their deaths was "serene and beautiful", week.co.uk reported the doctor as saying.

"They had a cup of coffee in the hall, it went well... The separation from their parents and brother was very serene and beautiful. At the last there was a little wave of their hands and then they were gone."

The decision to euthanise the men was not accepted by the first hospital or by Chris Gastmans, professor of medical ethics at the Catholic University of Leuven.

Gastmans said he was concerned for the wider implications for the welfare of disabled people, the Telegraph reported.

"I will not enter the legal discussion but I am left with questions," he said.

"Is this the only humane response that we can offer in such situations? I feel uncomfortable here as ethicist. Today it seems that euthanasia is the only right way to end life. And I think that's not a good thing. In a society as wealthy as ours, we must find another, caring way to deal with human frailty."There were 1133 cases of euthanasia in Belgium last year. It is legal only for those aged over 18 but the Government is considering extending it to children and those suffering from Alzheimer's, The Telegraph reported.

Sixty year old widow and four others killed in another tanker explosion in Mbiama community Bayelsa State

Another heavy duty truck loaded with fuel, yesterday crashed into the busy market of Mbiama community, situated between Rivers and Bayelsa states and exploded, killing a sixty year-old widow and four other persons.

Also affected by the explosion were scores of makeshift shops used by roadside hawkers, a mini park used by the members of the National Road and Transport Workers Union (NRTWU), houses and cars parked within the vicinity of the crash.

Eyewitness told said that the widow was caught in the explosion due to her ill-health. She was reportedly selling local gin in the market. The number of deaths recorded was attributed to the marketing nature of the area. Many of the occupants of the shops were selling sachet water and other drinks on the road leading to Yenagoa.

Vehicular movement was stopped for hours and the late arrival of the men of the Bayelsa State Fire Service to the scene provoked onlookers and some injured victims, who threw stones at the fire fighters and their vehicles.

An auto mechanic, whose workshop and vehicles under repairs were razed by the fire, Mr. Musa Kasumu, lamented that he had lost everything, including his shop and residence.”

Jeremiah Davidson, who also lost his house, said, “I believe the fire was caused by the carelessness of the tanker driver. With the information we had, the truck came down the hill and hit a car. It was reportedly on high speed on getting to this point, the driver lose control why trying to dodge a car coming the opposite direction, and the tanker fell and exploded.”

Another trader, Deborah Moses, in tears said, “My water and the soft drinks I sell are all gone.”

Even the items belonging to my twin sister are burnt. I just made new purchases yesterday.”

The head of operation, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ahoada Unit of Rivers State, Mr. Alagoa Oja, attributed the crash and explosion to impatience. “The tanker came from the Warri axis. Naturally, this is a junction, and there is bound to be traffic here, but he wasn’t patient enough. We tried to dodge a car and it went off the road. So a little patience would have helped because all he needed was to queue behind other vehicles before he moved''

The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson has claimed that his predecessor, Chief Timipre Sylva, left just N4,451 in the purse of the state on his exit from office.

.Dickson, who said that a N50 billion Bond Sylva obtained during his tenure was also posing a major challenge to his administration, revealed that he has been able to grow the N4,451 to N16 billion as at Monday.

The Governor spoke in Abuja at the presentation of his administration’s financial scorecard for December 2012.
He said Internally Generated Revenue is expected to rise to N2 billion monthly by the end of 2013.
Before he came into power, Dickson said the IGR was N300 million.
Represented by his Commissioner for Finance, Duate Iyabi, Dickson said 2013 will be for the of the achievements of his administration.
But Sylva has denied Dickson’s position that he left just N4,451 in the state’s coffers.
He said since he did not hand over to Dickson, it was impossible for him to know how much he left behind.
Sylva, in his position made known by his media aide, Doifie Ola, said he handed over to the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Nestor Binabo, adding: “We did not hand over to Dickson.

He was murdered by unknown persons via a letter bomb delivered to his house in Ikeja on October 19, 1986.

Elechi:Ebonyi State Governor Suspends Attorney General and two others for Improper Dressing

The Government of Ebonyi in a statement, on Saturday, announced the suspension of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ben Igwenyi, and two other commissioners for improper dressing.

The statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyekachi Eni, said that the other commissioners were Hyacinth Ikpo, Culture and Tourism and Chukwuma Nwandugo, Works and Transport.

According to the statement signed by Governor Martins Elechi, the suspended commissioners are to proceed on three months suspension for improper dressing to a state banquet.

The state banquet was in honour of the Society for Gynaecologists of Nigeria.

The statement also said that the affected commissioners had been barred from attending any official government function within the period of their suspension.

It said their mode of dressing should conform to the attitudinal change policy of the administration.

The statement said the commissioners wore jean trousers and T-shirts to the banquet.

``The state will not tolerate any form of indecent dressing from any of its officials; the attitudinal change policy must be imbibed by everybody.

``There is no ‘sacred cow’ in this administration,’’ the statement quoted Elechi as saying.

Elechi had been critical about the mode of dressing by members of the State Executive Council.

The governor had previously suspended his personal cleaner for dressing improperly to work.

An Address by His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, on the Occasion of the Independence Day Anniversary on Monday, October 1st, 2012

1.Beloved countrymen and women, on this day, fifty-two years ago, our founding fathers brought joy and hope to the hearts of our people when they won independence for our great country. Nigeria made a clean break with more than six decades of colonial rule, and emerged as a truly independent nation. That turning point was a new beginning for our nation.

2.Those who witnessed the lowering of the Union Jack and the emergence of the Green White Green flag continue to relish the memory, because that ceremony was not just about the destiny of a nation, but the future of a people.

4.The worthy patriots who made this possible were young men and women in their twenties and thirties. They worked together to restore dignity and honour to the Nigerian people. Their resolve united a multicultural and multilingual nation of diverse peoples, with more than 250 distinct languages and ethnic groups.3.That future is here; we are the inheritors of a great legacy that goes even much farther into the past.

5.In 1960, our diversity became a source of strength, and the new leaders resolved to carry the flag of independence for the benefit of future generations. They had their differences, but they placed a greater premium on the need to come together to build a new nation.

6.It is that resolve, and that glorious moment that we celebrate today. We also celebrate the patriotism of our heroes past: Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Michael Okpara, Chief Anthony Enahoro, Herbert Macaulay, and several others who made the case for our independence.

12.Our vision is encapsulated in the Transformation Agenda. We are working hard and making progress on many fronts. We have cleaned up our electoral process; our elections are now globally acclaimed to be free and fair. Nigeria is now on a higher pedestal regarding elections.

13.Over the past five years, the global economy has been going through a weak and uncertain recovery. During the same period and particularly in the last two years, the Nigerian economy has done appreciably well despite the global financial crisis. Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown by 7.1 per cent on average.

14.It is also significant that the GDP growth has been driven largely by the non-oil sector. In pursuance of the main goals of the Transformation Agenda, a number of reforms and initiatives are being pursued in key sectors of the economy with a view to consolidating the gains of the economic growth.

15.Our country’s power supply situation is improving gradually. We are successfully implementing a well-integrated power sector reform programme which includes institutional arrangements to facilitate and strengthen private-sector-led power generation, transmission and distribution.

16.We have also put in place a cost-reflective tariff structure that reduces the cost of power for a majority of electricity consumers. I am pleased with the feedback from across the country, of improvements in power supply.

17.We are continuing to improve and stabilize on our crude production volumes; our 12-month gas supply emergency plan, put in place earlier this year, has produced more than the targeted volumes of gas for power generation. A robust Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) has been placed before the National Assembly. Its passage into law will ensure far-reaching reforms, transparency, accountability, increased government revenue and predictability for investors in the Oil and Gas sector.

18.Several government programmes and projects are creating wealth and millions of job opportunities for our youth and general population. Such programmes include: You-Win, both for the youth and for the women, Public Works, the Local Content Initiative in the Oil and Gas Sector, and the Agricultural Transformation programme.

19.We have improved on our investment environment; more corporate bodies are investing in the Nigerian economy. Our Investment Climate Reform Programme has helped to attract over N6.8 trillion local and foreign direct investment commitments.

20.Nigeria has become the preferred destination for investment in Africa. It is ranked first in the top 5 host economies for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Africa, accounting for over 20 per cent of total FDI flows into the continent. We have streamlined bureaucratic activities at the ports to ensure greater efficiency in the handling of ports and port-related businesses. Specifically, we have drastically reduced the goods clearing period in our ports from about six weeks to about one week and under. We have an ultimate target of 48 hours.

21. We have put in place, a new visa policy that makes it easier for legitimate investors to receive long stay visas. We have achieved a 24-hour timeline for registration of new businesses, leading to the registration of close to 7, 000 companies within the second quarter of 2012.

22.The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has disclosed that, as at July 2012, 249 new members across the country had joined the Association, and that capacity utilization has also improved. The multiplier effect of this development on our job creation programme cannot be over-emphasized.

23.In the last two years, we have put in place structures for an upgrade of the country’s health sector, to promote in every respect, the individual citizen’s right to quality, affordable and accessible healthcare.

24.In this regard, we are devoting resources under the Subsidy Reinvestment Program (SURE-P) to reducing malaria incidents, dramatically reducing maternal and child mortality, and eradicating polio.

25.Fellow Nigerians, in recent times, we have witnessed serious security challenges in parts of our country. We have taken pro-active measures to check the menace. This has included constant consultation and collaboration with our neighbours and other friendly nations on issues relating to internal and cross border security, and the sharing of information on smuggling and illegal dealing in small arms and light weapons.

26.Our security agencies are constantly being strengthened and repositioned for greater efficiency. Many Nigerians have acknowledged that there has been a significant decline in the spate of security breaches.

27.While expressing our condolences to the affected families, let me reiterate the commitment of this Administration to ensure the safety of lives and property of all Nigerians.

28.Even as we remain focused on the issue of security, the fight against the scourge of corruption is a top priority of our Administration. We are fighting corruption in all facets of our economy, and we are succeeding. We have put an end to several decades of endemic corruption associated with fertilizer and tractor procurement and distribution. We have exposed decades of scam in the management of pensions and fuel subsidy, and ensured that the culprits are being brought to book.

29.In its latest report, Transparency International (TI) noted that Nigeria is the second most improved country in the effort to curb corruption.

30.We will sustain the effort in this direction with an even stronger determination to strengthen the institutions that are statutorily entrusted with the task of ending this scourge.

31.I have given my commitment of non-interference in the work of the relevant agencies and I am keeping my word. What we require is the full cooperation of all tiers of government, and the public, especially civil society and the media.

32.This Administration has also introduced for the first time in Nigeria’s history, a Performance Contract System for all Ministers, and other officials of government. This is to further place emphasis on performance, efficiency, and service delivery.

33.Fellow Nigerians, our determined efforts on several fronts not-withstanding, our country still faces a number of challenges.

34.Those challenges should not deter us. In the last few weeks, for example, many of our communities have been ravaged by floods, resulting in the loss of lives and property, and the displacement of persons.

35.I want to reassure all affected Nigerians that I share in their grief, and our Administration is taking steps to address these incidents, in collaboration with the States and Local Governments.

36.I have received the interim Report of the Presidential team that I set up to assess the flooding situation across the country.

37. The Federal Government has taken measures to assist the affected States, while considering long term measures to check future reoccurrence.

38.We must continue to work together, confidently and faithfully, to ensure that our country’s potentials are realised to the fullest; that our dreams are translated into reality; and that our goals are achieved.

39. Let me reiterate that our administration is committed to the pursuit of fundamental objectives of an open society: the pursuit of freedom, security and prosperity for the Nigerian people, and the rule of law.

40. In the next few days, I shall lay before the National Assembly the 2013 Federal Budget Proposal so that deliberations can commence in earnest on the key policies, programmes and projects that will mark a decisive year for our development and transformation.

41. I have no doubt that by the time I address you on our next independence anniversary, many of our reform efforts would have yielded even better results.

42.Over the years, several leaders have built on the foundation laid by our Founding Fathers. The baton is now in our hands. Let me assure all Nigerians that we shall not fail.

43. I am confident that Nigeria will continue to be a source of pride to its citizens; to Africa and the Black Race and to humanity; a land that is known for progress, freedom, peace and the promotion of human dignity.

Louise and Martine Fokkens are identical twins and they have slept with over 300,000 men in 50 years, meaning they have both slept with 20 men per day over the last 50 years. Even the the other twin that was introduced later is still in the ''business''.But who sleeps with a 70year old?SMH...

That is the story of Identical twins Louise and Martine Fokkens, who shot to fame earlier this year as stars of a documentary charting their 50 year careers as prostitutes in Amsterdam.

Now the 70-year-old Dutch sisters are celebrating their retirement with a tell-all book about their lives and the industry, and today they admitted to This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that they have entertained 355,000 men between them.

Louise revealed that her bad arthritis meant that she had retired from prostitution two years ago causing the telly hosts to exclaim: ‘No wonder you have arthritis. You must have very flexible hips!’

Louise, who became a prostitute aged twenty after a brief spell making lampshades explained how she got in to the business

We didn’t have enough money. ‘My husband’s friends said it was the best way to make money so we decided to find out. I was 20/21 the first time. At first it was a problem for our mother and father but later we all lived normally with it.’

Martine, a mother-of-three who still works as a prostitute two to three times a week said:

‘My family told me about my sister while I was in the hospital having my first baby. I didn’t believe it but we talked about it and I loved her, that’s life.’

Martine then started working at the brothel as a cleaner but two years later decided to join her sister as a prostitute after so many clients mistook her for her identical twin.
Louise, who has four children and nine grandchildren said: ‘I helped her with the first client: told her what she had to do, what she shouldn’t do.’

Unsurprisingly the women are familiar faces around the red light district, and over their five decades working in the sex industry freed themselves from the control of their pimps, ran their own brothel, and set up the first informal trade union for prostitutes.
