The Amstaff is typically docile and playful with his family. He is generally friendly toward strangers as long as his master is present. The American Staffordshire Terrier is generally good with children but must be closely supervised. This is a protective breed and can be aggressive toward other dogs, especially dogs that challenge it. This dog is stubborn, tenacious and fearless and will protect his family and property to the end. For all of it’s tough persona, the important thing in life to this breed is it’s owners loving attention which can cause separation anxiety with a few dogs.

Unless they are abused or trained to fight, American Staffordshire terriers have upbeat personalities. They are playful, smart and outgoing and they love attention from humans.

They are patient and gentle with children.

Humans often fear American Staffordshire terriers because of their reputation as aggressive fighting dogs. Pit bulls were bred to be friendly to humans, and they do well when they meet strangers, as long as their owners are present.

American Staffordshire terriers are loyal and protective. They are fearless fighters and will protect their families from danger, even if they have to sacrifice their own lives to do so.

The nickname pit bull comes from the American Staffordshire terrier's past as a fighting dog. They may show aggression toward other dogs if they are not socialized as puppies.

Yes. The American Staffordshire Terrier gets a bad rap from those who fight dogs. Actually, the Amstaff, if socialized properly as a puppy and raised right, can be very affectionate. They love their family and show it with lots of kisses and physical play.

Standard says that Am Staffs are to be 17-19" tall, while the Staffordshire Bull Terriers are 14"-16" tall and weigh "24-34" pounds, no weight is listed for the Am Staff, but it is roughly in proportion. Many poorly bred Am Staffs or APBT are well above that size range... some BYB kennels advertise dogs as large as 150 lbs, but such extreme weight causes health problems and losses all breed character.

Temperamentally, well-bred dogs are very similar: sweet, outgoing, and kind off goofy sometimes, with more dog aggression than some breeds, a high pain tolerance, and no human aggression, even when scared or hurt. The larger American dogs from poor breeders would have a higher chance of being bred/used for fighting than Staffies, simply because over-sized Bully types are what is preferred by the criminal for illicit purposes these days.

Generally, opposite-sex pairs have fewer conflicts, but if both are altered introduced properly, especially if they also get basic training and socialization, it should not be a noticeable difference.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is taller, heavier, and can be shown with cropped ears. Like the American and English Cocker Spaniels, they were originally variations of the same breed in the style that was preferred in England (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) and the United States (Am Staff). The United Kennel Club registers AKC American Staffordshire Terriers as American Pit Bull Terriers, but there is some argument about the appropriateness of that registration as some see them as separate but related breeds.

Also It is widely accepted that this breed evolved in part from the old "Bulldogue" brought over from the Staffordshire region of England.

This is my american stafford terrier,brown with white spots( still very handsome and is the sweetest dog I have ever owned)he is 8months old

all he wants to do is play (with anything or anyone),he is pretty smart for a dog.And i'm covinced that he doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body.He likes to walk,hm..well more runing :D than walk,two walks a day about 30-50min weather permiting.This is the most important to do for any ''power breed''..He really likes to be outside and that give us plenty of time bonding us together.Well i got him when he had only one week,not good for him.. he was to early separated from mother,well all went fine and it is.This dog changed my life for sure! And all you who want,and think to have this type of dog in your surrounding you will not get disappointed for sure!He likes to play with other animals like rabits,cats..

He loves all people who come to my house,he goes around them and greet everyone.His favorite playmate is a little husky ''Vucko'',that's my neighbour dog..he comes to him and they play all day..anyway,yea he likes to eat everything i must say!Hahah
damn he doesn't know to stop.

He act like a human,belive me that dog has a soul,well that is little info about my staford,i''ll put more pictures of him and videos i have uploaded on youtube,so more stuff coming.
