Portfolio!

So I've been working on this new portfolio, basically it's a particle stream photo book to store all your photos in, but it's low prim, the book doesn't open or close, instead your photos stream above it. It's an old SL idea, but I love playing with the covers to create something new and different....I hope!

I haven't been on SL much since moving to Europe and I must say I miss it. Lousy internet and lack of time have kept me away but I've still managed to put together my new gallery 19, (old name) my home, and a couple of other buildings on the land and I must say it's looking pretty good if I say so myself. (and I am saying so, you heard it right here. So drop in, wait, let's see, did I manage to put the LM together too? And can I find it? My hard drive is as messy as my inventory! Sigh.......

O kaaaay, can't find it, but I'll come back and edit it in later. Here's what the particle photos look like anyway,

Your photo opens up and follows your camera, so you can see it from any position of course. This was an open source script and I really like it, although it might be a bit laggy if there's....lag. The photo of course you probably recognize, it was taken in Kowloon, one of my favorite places in SL, and I'll find the link for that too..eh... later.

Finelly after almost a year, 19 has a new home thanks to Aries Mohindi who offered half of her place to support the arts in SL. I wanted to build some wave type buildings, this is the result of my efforts. I like them but find them a bit tight as the walls curve in. Still they are striking if I do say so myself! (I do, lol!) Currantly 19 is under construction, but you are welcome to come and see it as it slowly evolves!

Happy New Year, Happy Old Year..... and Something In Between....,

Okay, so it's been a huge transition for me moving across the world, and right now I'm in between places in SL as I am in real life. In the mean time through all the exciting and re-acclimating I've been working with my language students through SL one of whom dreams of opening a travel agency when he grows up. So to practice English we've been designing his travel agency building and the items in it. He has to describe in his target language, (English,) exactly what he wants in the way of wall colorings, building structure and size, posters, desks, chairs, tables, magazines and other interior things he'd like to see inside. This makes for great practice through conversation and we've been having a fantastic time creating his "brick and mortar" environment!

I've also been invited to be in an adult show in SL. I didn't realize it was adult until I showed up to try to hang my works and saw just how adult it was! I consider my work more spiritual than "Adult" but perhaps it fits well and I'm just not aware of it. Still this show is quiet interesting for me being exposed to a side of SL I'm not familiar with, (ah shucks, I'm so innocent!) and I'm happy to be apart of it!

This period of time has left this artist feeling somewhat "in between." I need to find a new place to set up shop and live inworld and I'm in the process of re-dimensioning myself to my new life in a foreign country. Both transitions are not easy, but thank god, although I take SL very seriously, that transition is definitely easier and even perhaps with all the new birthing pains.., more enjoyable!

"Cityscape" An Intervrtive Art Series

Was invited to SL8B this year, my first year! I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but had a blast doing it. I introduced 6 new paintings, all from the intervrtive series, (yup, still exploring intervrtive!) 3 from the original nature series, and 3 from a new series of work called "Urban."

I've had lots of great comments so far, and even made it into a blog, (very cool) SL8B runs through July 2nd, so please drop by and see my exhibit. While you're there, pick up the free gift. As usual, click on the different elements of the paintings; the glasses, branches, easel, birds, etc, to "finish" the painting. When you're done with my stuff, check out the surrounding exhibits, pretty awesome!

Grim Glamour

Started a jewelry line call Grim Glamour; The Numbered Dead. This all began when after having been in SL for over 2 years, I'd never seen a pair oh hoop earrings I really liked. Couldn't figure out why (are they too hard to make? Look dorky?) so decided to make a pair to see if I could find the answer. Well me and my friends liked them so much I thought I'd offer them to the public and here they are!
You can find them in my new jewelry vendor in the back of the gallery, I'm having so much fun creating them I'm adding something everyday, so check back often!

Artzine 2.0

I've been working on a project with a talented team of residents, since it was the beginning and new to all of us, we all ended up doing an enormous amount of work to get this magazine to publication. (I think I went through about 34 revisions!) the result is Artzine 2.0 an online and inworld magazine dedicated to real life and Secondlife arts and artists. I'm very proud to say I did the layout and design of this magazine and met some phenomenal people along the way! Click the link above to read the magazine online in it's entirety. Fabulous living art dress (tell me this isn't hot!) from the minds of the Grim Brothers!

If you've ever wondered where to find the most unusual Gothic and Steampunk clothing and accessories to compliment your very peculiar second life style, look no further, I've found the ultimate store! This place has to be one of the most unique locations in ANY world, I'm not kidding, and I'm sharing the LM with YOU dear viewers! Why? Because, without this store, you are just plain deprived!
Strange unusual and just plain fun, the clothing is extraordinary. Here you'll find everything from a skirt that is a cafeteria, yup, an actual 50s diner with counter/stools, cups, dishes and food even, to a lovely pale bone dress, for those occasions when you're feeling particularly close to death, or just want to look like you are in a chic way.
And the shoes!
AND THE SHOES! OMG, THE SHOES!
These are absolutely the most intricate, extravagant, captivating, and amazing shoes I've ever seen..., anywhere. Cyberpunk, through furry bunnies, you'll find shoes with gaskets, gadgets, gears, animals, and many other odd decorations. All gorgeous and perfect for well.., everyday wear of course!
The store itself is fascinating to walk through. You'll spend time looking at all over sized decor, a very large eyeball, well..., eyeballs you as you stroll by. A huge disturbing Teddy bear kicks up some fun, and gorilla greetings wow you right at the front door. Check out the aquarium, you'll find a few species of fish you never knew existed.
They also carry spines, spine attachments, experimental art dresses, hair, masks, face attachments, gloves, kilts, Asia Steampunk outfits, and some of the weirdest avatars ever created!
Exquisite is the perfect word for this store, so get there, and get it done!

Children Of The Night!

In honor of my favorite holiday I have a new exhibition, 19 is proud to present;

"Children Of The Night"

A creepy but fun look at some very scary kids, and yes, children and their paraphernalia can be pretty scary, (think Damian, or the exorcist child)
And their toys, HOLY MOLY! Dolls, puppets, rattles, you name it, the things they play with can be just as frightening if not more so! Please come and play, let me know what you think and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Very excited! Won 2nd place in the Criss Museum Of Contemporary Art's 9/11 memorial competition with this piece! It's an interactive sculpture, when you click it you become a part of the piece as an angel ascending to heaven. It's one of my favorite works, and I was very flattered to have it chosen as a winner. There were so many wondrous art pieces entered into this event! The pain, introspection and even the spirituality of the artists wove through the pieces, filling you with regret and hope at the same time, even though years have passed, time hasn't faded the strong feelings, nor should they.
It was an honor to be a part of this contest and an event I will long remember!

And The Beat Goes On!

Construction continues at George 5 which has been renamed Av Champs lysees. But some of us got our new facades yesterday and they are not have bad! (See the pic above) In the park I will be moving the Gene Shaw Museum to the front of the land and Saint George Park will than be behind the building. They extreme changes have gotten me a little miffed as they end up costing me hours of time to reestablish landmarks and all the advertising I've created in the past, but I'm still optimistic that these changes will bring more visitors to our little sim and will be beneficial in the long run. 10 Meters High!

Changes continue on my sim, I've been asked to move my builds 10 meters above the ground. I'm not happy with the changes, but hope that when it is finished George 5 with be truly spectacular.

Of course this change means all the landmarks included with my items are now invalid. I'm posting a new one to Saint George Park here with a landmark to the Night Gallery to follow as soon as I move it.

New Show At the Criss Museum Of Contemporary Art!

Very excited! I was invited to show my work at the Criss Museum Of Contemporary Art! Quite an honor of course and I'm absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of this important Second Life art museum!

The Criss Museum of Contemporary Art strives to bring the public the best Second Life art and defines "contemporary" in various ways; art which is of this time; art which is recent, art new or existing or art which follows modern ideas or fashions in style and design. Katerina Burner director of the MCA says about their board of members;

"They feel that "art holds no boundaries", so they look for original and adventurous ideas in the artists they show, and use the display as an extension of the art itself. Katerina Burner says, "The artists chosen for the opening were those we found that did not hold to one theme. They created pieces that made you want to sit and look and think; maybe stir is the best word."

In other words you have to be cutting edge, for the cutting edge! When you get a chance please stop by and see my work. I'd love your feedback on my work. While there you'll also have a chance to view astounding work by other extraordinary artists. Enjoy!

Race Relations Past And Present

Recently a good friend of mine suggested that the museum in Saint George Park might be too controversial for Second Life. Surprised I asked her why, her response, because of the "racial thing." Puzzled I asked racial thing? What racial thing?! Since the museum is dedicated to shedding light on this little know jazz trumpeter, I felt it was important to include all the aspects of his life that showed his decisions, talents and influences. So I put up photos of my father AND my mother, showing how courageous and unusual these people were in marrying and raising interracial children in the late 50's-60s. My mother of course, having been a major influence on his work and his life, is included. The circumstances of a white woman meeting, falling in love with and marrying a black man was a part of their shared history, the fact that it was also considered taboo than, make it a part of American history. Now I'm not going to say that it wasn't a bit difficult being an interracial child of that era, or that watching President Obama's inauguration speech didn't leave me emotional, of course it did, but not because he was black, but because he was an "Other." The box that you check on every official form to describe your race when you don't quite fit into one definition. Since I also was an "other" he represented a new hero for a new time another "other" that I could relate to.

But in general the images/information in the exhibit represent a past, not a present. Although there are of course some of the same racial issues currently, things were different back than. My children wouldn't even recognize some of the racial expressions we used in the 60's such as "pass for white." The words, this idea even, does not exist in 2009. So for me the story of Gene Shaw is just a fascinating, semi romantic, musical history. But the thought that this history could be considered a currant controversy, and controversial in a virtual world that in itself is controversial, well..., that left me thoughtful.

This conversation sparked a new friendship and a wonderful conversation. I believe that uncomfortable or not, communication is always the key to understanding.

So excited about this train!

When it's finished it's going to be a really fun feature. I love the colors, the feel of the space. So far I think the owners are having a little scripting trouble, it's not functional yet, but I have faith!

19 Art In 2 Worlds!

Uh oh! my street is changing. Gone is the funky yet sophisticated old Paris feel of the place, it's been replaced with uber slick, almost an American version, of Europe. It now has an underground too! Not that that's bad, (In fact the railroad is quite exciting!) but it is different, and now my little quirky art parks don't fit in.

At first I was despondent, what to do? Move perhaps?

But this would be my second move, and all my advertising is in place, it would mean starting over..., again. So I'v decided to change things around a bit instead. Change the museum building itself, clean up the park, get rid of the gate. I'll post photos of it when it's finished. So far I'm really liking my choice of buildings for the museum, but the park itself feels kind of cold. Have no clue what to do with the cemetery, Yikes! Who knew you could get so emotionally involved with a virtual world?

Ready for a new event? I've got a contest going on in Saint George Park. The prize is a copy of this artwork and 650L! All you have to do is come down to Saint George Park, Second Life (there is a sign with the instructions in the kiosk) study the painting, come up with a name and the price you think it should sell for, click the mailbox on the side and type your thoughts into chat and voila! You're entered!

While you're there don't forget to browse the Night Gallery cemetery an experimental art gallery. There is also the Gene Shaw Museum which is a work in progress but has the only photos and information in existence about this 50s/60s jazz trumpeter, leave a message on the message board, hang in the park, and/or buy my art!! : )) If you like what you see please rate me and pick up a gallery HUD so you can visit some of the extraordinary art galleries of SL. Welcome to 19! Here you'll find updates, stories and news about my 2 art parks, Night Gallery Cemetery and Saint George Park, both in Second Life!

Saint George Park came about through a desire to have a gallery in an outdoor setting surrounded by the enchantment of large trees and tranquil places to relax. Over time it has become home to different events and the Gene Shaw Museum, the perfect place to share old family photos and memories of this talented but little know jazz musician.

The Night Gallery came out of the idea of displaying the darker art that I create in an appropriate setting, and what's more appropriate than a cemetery? It has grown into a large European type graveyard, complete with tombstones and crypts.

You are welcome to drop by any time and leave me a message. There are things to do in both parks. Be sure to pet Higby, he's a nice cat and loves the attention.
