In the month of September, I took the opportunity to learn about another new business and fashion trend in Canada called lia sophia. Dave and I have just recently updated our bedroom suite (which is absolutely gorgeous, by the way), but because the drawers had much more room in them than our other set did, I was able to leave one drawer available for all of my jewelry. BUT, there was one small problem with that idea since I didn’t have much jewelry to begin with (lol). I needed to get some “new” jewelry but what I ended up with was a new business!!

Now I don’t know about all of you, but as I was growing up in Winnipeg, there were home parties for just about everything you could think of including some parties you may never want to mention publicly. However, I haven’t ever been to any such parties like those here in Vancouver nor did I know anyone who was involved in home jewelry parties. So, I set on a new quest for me and myself and I and the internet was involved. (oh oh!)

I did a search on “home jewelry parties” and hit the enter key and lo and behold there were tons of results of course, and I started to peruse those sites for more information. I went from one site to another for various reasons such as it was too expensive, including the start up kits if I chose to become a part of the business or because the jewelry wasn’t appealing to me. After going through a number of sites, I finally found lia sophia. Until then, I had never heard of lia sophia on TV or on the Internet but Ohh la la… so many celebrities have.

I contacted one of the representatives in BC, to find out more and I set up a time with her so she could show me the brochure and tell me a little more about it since Dave was in Sechelt for the weekend, anyway. She promptly arrived on the agreed time, and we started to talk “business” and about jewelry, of course. That’s the whole point behind this email and blog post.

I didn’t expect to become as excited about it as I was, until Dave arrived home on Sunday. I had explained all of the above to him and then I showed him the brochure and I basically let him come to his own conclusion but I was pleasantly surprised to hear him say “This will compliment your Avon business really well” because that’s exactly what I thought after meeting with the rep.

The past couple of weeks have been spent going over every facet of this business which included attending a Pre-Launch Event here in Vancouver at the Surrey /Guildford Sheraton Hotel to meeting several other representatives as well as the Western Regional Manager herself. I brought Dave along with me, because his opinion matters the most and we were both surprised to see another gentleman show up with his wife who is also involved with lia sophia. (Phew!! For David’s sake, but he did win a door prize!!)

Just a quick reminder!!
Next Avon order submission date is September 29th, 2010, 10:00 PST for Campaign 21.

I have been able to change the layout to my blog a little differently, which I’m hoping you’ll find more appealing and easier to deal with. You can now view all the “Online Brochures” under its’ own tab, listed on the right of my site, or under the menu button listed under my header.

Either way, it will take you to the new page I have been able to create where I have listed all of the current online brochures you are able to order from, including our previous campaigns. As usual, you can still order up to two campaigns back (i.e. Current campaign is campaign 21 so you are able to order from Campaign 20 and Campaign 19.).

Important Dates to Remember:

Campaign 21 due by September 29th, 2010, 10:00 PST.
Campaign 20 due by September 15th, 2010, 10:00 PST.
Campaign 19 due by September 1st, 2010, 10:00 PST.

Just a quick reminder!!

Next Avon order submission date is April 14, 2010, 10:00 PST for Campaign 9.

Next Avon Order Submission Date: November 25, 2009

Hey Everyone,

I want to apologize for not updating this blog in the past month. There have been a few viruses flying around here lately, being flu and cold season. Not only was I sick, but then hubby became ill just as I got a bit better, then I caught whatever hubby had. Needless to say, I don't ever want to do that again. It was nice to have him home for a few days, but I wish it would have been under better circumstances.

As you all know, Christmas is just around the corner. I know I've been busy making my Christmas Shopping list, and placing orders, but I would like to point out to anyone who may be placing orders for Christmas through Avon, to please submit your orders as early as possible. Avon has been making every attempt to assure that all products be available, however, there will be a few disappointments as we get closer to Christmas. Some items are selling faster than what was expected.

Just a quick reminder!!

Next Avon order submission date is November 25, 2009. 10:00 PST for Campaign 25, Mark Magalog, Winter Expressions for the Home as well as The Outlet. For all of you who are Hockey Enthusiasts, Avon now has an NHL Gift Brochure to help you cheer on your favorite team.

Online Identity Theft and how to Prevent it

I posted this message last year, but have been asked to post it once again.

Unfortunately, this post is coming to you on a more serious note. A very dear friend of mine (whose name I have omitted, for security reasons) had to go through the unpleasantness of Identity Theft. She came to me and asked me, “How do you protect yourself, from Identity Theft? How could have it have happened?”

I’m not saying I’m the leading authority when it comes to protecting yourself and your information online, but I do know certain precautions can be taken, to ensure your information doesn’t end up in the wrong hands. Information that we so willingly give out when we join an online community, or website, should be taken into careful consideration, when submitted.

Information such as:

Your Full Name:

First Name and Last Name yes, Middle Name. NO. If at all possible, try not to have your display name include your full name. Last initial should suffice.

Address:

Common sense prevails with this one. DO you want someone going to your residence and going through your mail, collecting all your information about where you bank, credit cards, and other personal information?

Display addresses, should only have your City and State/Province. No one needs to see the rest.

Area Code and Telephone Number:

With area code and telephone number is easy for someone to then follow up and find your home address and where you presently live. Not to mention charge 3rd party phone calls to your phone.

Birthday:

Big No No.. Unless they are going to send you a birthday card and in most cases they don’t, don’t hand out your actual birthday. Please see explanation below.

Place of Birth:

Now, you wouldn’t think this would be such a big deal, right? WRONG. Anyone who knows where you were born and actual date you were born, can easily submit requests for items such as birth certificate and social insurance number/social security number. This would make it extremely easy for someone to assume your identity.

Email Addresses and Passwords:

You must be wondering what do I mean about this, since you need an email address for just about everything online, however, I am referring to sites, communities and forums, that make it easy for you to import your contacts through your email programs such as yahoo, hotmail and gmail, by submitting your email address and PASSWORDS!

When at all possible, send a manual invite instead. Not only will it safeguard your password, it will also be appreciated by your friends and family since you will not be submitting their information to a 3rd party.

Please also, change your passwords on a regular basis. Yes, it is a hassle, but definitely worth the extra step, to protecting your information.

Paypal Email Address (and other online payment wallets/checkouts)

Another common mistake I have heard a few people mention. There should always be a way for a company to send you a cheque instead of supplying your palpal email address. Not to mention, you can prevent any unwanted charges and fees taken out of your paypal account.

Personal Online Banking:

Personally, I don’t advise doing your banking online, PERIOD. Again, let common sense prevail. With the amount of spoof email we get on a daily basis, are safe, just make the trip to the bank.

I know we all get busy and sometimes we fall into the rut of copying and pasting our information into profiles, for simplicity, ease and time. However, think about this. Would you give that information out so easily, if someone approached you on a street that you didn’t know? Ahhh… didn’t think about it like that did you? You should... With the rise of identity theft increasing and the rate at which it has grown, I would almost suggest not to supply any information at all, but I know, in order for our business to survive there is an amount of information we do need to supply.

Let common sense rule. When in doubt, don’t. Think twice about not only the information you provide, but also the amount. It’s your life and your identity. Protect it, by all means necessary.

If this has helped just one person, then my time writing this article was well worth it for me. I don’t want to hear that anyone else is having to go through what my friend did, again.
