This is a crazy story with a fortunately happy ending that took place back in October, 2010.

A foursome of young button bucks fell upon some good luck Sunday as they were pulled from the icy waters of Stephens Passage by a group of locals out to enjoy the last few days of recent sunshine.…

Once they reached the vessel, Satre said they began to circle the boat and looked obviously distressed. The typically skittish and absolutely wild animals came willingly and once on the boat, collapsed with exhaustion. They were shivering.

Witnesses reported all the deer recovered fully from what appeared to be exhaustion and a bit of hypothermia.

I know the latest trend in audio is to put speakers into clothing wherever possible, but this backpack speaker unit, complete with 8-inch woofer, seems like overkill. For one thing, it can’t be good for the ears of whoever wears the thing. Then there’s the fact that no one will want to be anywhere near you when this thing kicks off.

Photographer David Litchfield took this incredible photograph of cage divers confronting a massive great white shark on the Isla de Guadalupe. The shot was one of the finalists of National Geographic’s annual photo contest. It’s hard to tell how big this shark is, but when you compare it to the divers in the cage it’s certainly not small. Orson Welles Was George Lucas's First Pick to Voice Darth Vader

James Earl Jones provided the voice of Darth Vader in the original trilogy. In an interview with BBC News, Jones asserted that George Lucas’s first choice for that role was Orson Welles. But Lucas reasoned that Welles’s voice was too well-known.

The tragedy is that Bobcat Goldthwait was too young provide his voice. Surely he would have been the ideal Vader.

What other actors do you think would have been good in the role of Darth Vader?

From what I’ve been able to piece together from a commenter at 9GAG and a few travel books, there’s a bar called The Real McCoy in the Barrikadnaya neighborhood of Moscow that sells vodka bottle loaves like this. It has all of the components of a complete and nutritious breakfast.

Virgin Atlantic Announces Plans to Fuel Airplanes With Waste Gas

Airline mogul and billionaire Richard Branson just announced that in three years Virgin Atlantic airplanes will be fueled by waste gas from power plants, steel works, and aluminum plants. Within 24 months the company will be able to take waste gas from these industrial sites and turn it into aviation fuel for their commercial airplanes. The process will reduce the carbon footprint of Virgin’s airplanes by as much as 50 percent.

“I’ve been lucky enough to make some exciting announcements in my lifetime, and I think this is one of the most exciting,” Branson said in an interview with Bloomberg. “24 months from now we should have planes flying from Shanghai, flying from Delhi, using this fuel. Then we want to start rolling it out around the rest of the Virgin Atlantic Fleet,” Branson told Bloomberg. He then said that even more importantly, he wanted to convince the rest of the airline industry that this was a viable alternative fueling option.
He believes there is enough waste gas in the world, currently being, “sent up into earth’s atmosphere,” to power the entire airline industry. “The airline industry could radically transform its carbon output and instead of being the industry that everyone points a finger at, it could well become the industry that people cite as one of the best examples of an industry that has managed to completely change itself.” While we’ve seen lots of innovations in sustainable aircraft on the small scale, Virgin Atlantic’s plans to recycle waste gas stands to significantly decrease factory emissions around the world while providing a new source of fuel for airlines.

Well, maybe not at the Carbrook Golf Club in Brisbane, Australia, where half a dozen bullsharks live in the lake. They took up residence a few years ago when a nearby river flooded, and have been breeding since then. Some of the sharks are up to ten feet long. They’ve become quite an attraction, so groundskeepers feed them to encourage them to come near the shore. Watch a video of the sharks at the link.

The impact of massive waves that struck a cruise ship during a storm off New Zealand have been revealed by CCTV footage posted on the internet.
Pacific Sun Cruise liner, carrying 1732 passengers and 671 crew, was caught in a severe storm on July 30, 2008, encountering seven-metre swells and 50 knot winds.
Passengers who were aboard the journey were offered a 25 percent reduction in the cost of a future cruise.

What's the Latest Development?
A new spacecraft currently in development is expected to travel at 2,200 miles per hour and be capable of shuttling passengers anywhere in the world in under two hours. Formula One racing tycoon Michiel Mol has teamed up with the Dutch airline K.L.M. to engineer the new ship. Called the Lynx, the craft will not be commercially viable for another 15 or 20 years but the project's first generation spacecraft will be revealed next spring. Preliminary tickets for a 2014 maiden voyage have already sold for $80,000.
What's the Big Idea?
Sir Richard Branson was the first to enter the commercial space race but he will surely not be the last. His company's maiden flight into low Earth orbit, where passengers will achieve weightlessness and see the arc of the planet, is scheduled for next year. At the same time, the termination of N.A.S.A.'s shuttle program has become the symbol of the transition from a government space program to the private space race. Companies will soon compete for their slice of the space vacationers' pie, spending a fraction of N.A.S.A.'s budget to put civilians into space.
