Released February 2010, the 'massively multiplayer online role-playing game' (MMORPG), based on the "Star Trek" universe created by Gene Roddenberry, is set in the 25th century, 30 years after the events of the motion picture "Star Trek Nemesis".

In the game, each player is Captain of an individual ship, featuring references to storylines and characters from "Star Trek" TV episodes.

STARZ Sneaks "Spartacus: Vengeance The Game"- January 27, 2012

Starz Digital Media, the digital and on-demand licensing arm of STARZ, will launch a sneak peek of its upcoming Facebook social game, "Spartacus: Vengeance The Game", January 27, 2012.

Viewers of the video teaser will be able to 'like' the free-to-play game and sign up to be invited to play, once the game is live. Both the video teaser and "Spartacus: Vengeance The Game" are designed to accompany the STARZ Original series "Spartacus: Vengeance," also debuting January 27.

"The teaser video gives users a good overview of the new 'Spartacus: Vengeance The Game', " said Mara Winokur, senior vice president, Starz Media, "which takes on a greater level of sophistication by adding new elements such as improved visuals, multi-fighter battles, a more robust game economy, advanced game progressions, and more varied strategic options."

As with the "Spartacus: The Game", Starz Digital Media partnered with Large Animal Games for the development of "Spartacus: Vengeance The Game".

"...'Spartacus: Vengeance The Game' takes the player, a recently escaped slave, outside of the arena to embrace a series of challenges and lead his own band of warriors. Through his journey, the player will travel from 'Capua' to 'Vesuvius', paralleling the feats of Spartacus' own warriors. Throughout the game, players will be given missions to wrest various locations from Roman control by overcoming a series of challenges, such as building and equipping an army, liberating slaves and other prisoners and acquiring fighters. All the while the player will be working with and conspiring against characters from 'Spartacus: Vengeance'..."

Beginning January 20, 2012 STARZ will sample the first full episode of "Spartacus: Vengeance" to more than 61.1 million multichannel households.

The second season sequel to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", follows 'Spartacus' (McIntyre, replacing Andy Whitfield), after he and his fellow gladiators kill their master 'Batiatus' and escape from his gladiatorial training school 'ludus'.

The prequel, "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena", airing January 2011, averaged an estimated 6.2 million total viewers per episode across all linear channels and on-demand viewing.

Cast members and characters who return for "Vengeance" include Lucy Lawless as 'Lucretia', Peter Mensah as 'Oenomaus', Manu Bennett as 'Crixus', Nick Tarabay as 'Ashur' and Viva Bianca as 'Ilithyia'.

Craig Parker also returns as 'Gaius Claudius Glaber' and Dustin Clare reprises his role as 'Gannicus' from "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena".

Cynthia Addai-Robinson also joins the series as 'Naevia', the former body slave to 'Lucretia' who was banished for her love affair with 'Crixus'.

"Spartacus: Vengeance" is executive produced by Rob Tapert, Steven S. DeKnight, Sam Raimi and Joshua Donen.

"Marvel: Avengers Alliance" Assembles on Facebook

Disney Interactive Media Group will release "Marvel: Avengers Alliance", a new game developed by Playdom, for Facebook, representing the first Disney Entertainment brand to come to Facebook gaming.

"Marvel: Avengers Alliance" provides a combat role playing game experience with dozens of familiar Marvel superheroes and villains, including 'Spider-Man', 'Iron Man', 'Thor', 'Captain America', 'Wolverine', 'Hawkeye', 'Black Widow' and a whole lot more.

Once a hero is added to the "Avengers" team, players can begin training them to unlock unique abilities and attacks, as well as using 'ISO-8' to further customize each character's stats. Players will also be able to face-off against each other, challenging their social graph in super-powered 'asynchronous PvP battles'.

'Dynamic Duo' Return For "LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes"

"Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" Scores $1 Billion In 16 Days

Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc., reports that the video game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" crossed the $1 billion mark in sales since its launch November 8, 2011.

Highlighting the trend of interactive entertainment gaining a greater hold of audiences worldwide, the game achieved the milestone in 16 days, eclipsing the record set in 2009 by the feature film "Avatar," which reached the $1 billion milestone in 17 days, despite a retail price of $60 per unit.

While 2011 box office revenue is on the decline, down 4 percent this year at $9.4 billion, compared with $9.8 billion in 2010, the number of people purchasing and participating in gaming is on the rise. With more than 30 million gamers, the "Call of Duty" community now exceeds the combined populations of the cities of New York, London, Tokyo, Paris and Madrid.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the third installment in Activision's "Modern Warfare" video game series is the eighth "Call of Duty" installment in total, set in America, England, France and Germany, as the entire world is plunged into war.

Parker and Stone Developing "South Park: The Game"

The new Rocksteady Studios' video game "Batman: Arkham City" has been nominated for multiple awards, to be presented @ at the 2011 "Spike TV Video Game Awards", airing December 10, 2011.

'Xbox Kinect' Closing In On "Minority Report"

Similar to the futuristic computer sequences of browsing through an interface with gestures, visualized in director Steven Spielberg's 2002 science fiction feature "Minority Report", Microsoft is specially adapting its 'Xbox Kinect' technology for Windows computers, enabling users to also control their PCs with a wave of the hand.

"Building on the existing 'Kinect' for 'Xbox 360', we have optimized certain hardware components and made firmware adjustments which better enable 'PC-centric scenarios'," said Craig Eisler, general manager of the Kinect for Windows program.

A small device sits on top of the console or television and translates the gamers' body movement to commands in racing, fighting and dancing titles.

The Windows version will offer the prospect of users controlling everyday office applications simply by moving their hands, with Microsoft's new 'Near Mode' for the PC version of Kinect, suitable for capturing smaller movements more accurately while working at a desk.

In "Minority Report", the computer interface product employed was a 'g-speak spatial operating environment' system that handled interactions in space, as a combination of gestural i/o, recombinant networking and real-world pixels.

"Max Payne 3" Aims For March 2012

Sneak Peek the trailer and new screenshots from "Max Payne 3", the upcoming third-person shooter video game in the "Max Payne" franchise, available March 2012 from publisher Rockstar Games, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Development is being led by Rockstar Vancouver in collaboration with the company's New England, London and Toronto studios.

Lead writer of "Max Payne 3" is Dan Houser, noted as the writer of Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto" series and the award-winning "Red Dead Redemption".

"This is Max as we've never seen him before," said Rockstar's Sam Houser. "A few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever."

The game will be set in São Paulo, Brazil, where 'Max Payne' is working in the private security sector for a wealthy local family.

"Modern Warfare 3" Captures $775 Million

Activision’s first-person shooter video game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3", has grossed more than $775 million in its first five days at retailers, despite a $60 per game price tag.

"In this difficult economy, you are getting a great value," said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, confirming that the entire "Call of Duty" video game franchise has earned more than $6 billion in revenue since its debut.

New Line Goes On A "Rampage"

New Line Cinema is developing a big screen version of the 1986 Bally Midway arcade game "Rampage" that spawned five Atari home video games including "Rampage: Total Destruction" released in 2006.

Premise has players taking control of gigantic monsters trying to survive against military forces, with each level completed only when a specific city is reduced to rubble.

Up to three simultaneous players control the monsters 'George' (a "King Kong"-like gorilla), 'Lizzie' (a "Godzilla"-like dinosaur), or 'Ralph' (a giant 'werewolf'), created from mutated humans.

When they were humans, George was a normal middle aged man, Lizzie was a young woman and Ralph was an elderly man, but they were experimented on at 'Scumlabs'.

As monsters, they raze all buildings in a high-rise city to advance to the next level, eating people and destroying helicopters, tanks, taxis and police cars along the way.

"Resident Evil: Retribution" Shoots Up Downtown Toronto

The "Resident Evil" movie series is based on Capcom's survival horror video game series "Resident Evil".

The new film is written/directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who first came to the movie series as writer/director of "Resident Evil" (2002). He continued on as writer/producer for "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" (2004) and "Resident Evil: Extinction" (2007), returning as director for the fourth installment, "Resident Evil: Afterlife" (2010), released in 3D.

'The Umbrella Corporation' acts as the main antagonist in the series, a company responsible for a 'zombie apocalypse' as a result of the creation of the 'T-Virus'. 'Alice' (Jovovich), who was once a security operative working for Umbrella is granted super-human abilities after being tested on by Umbrella. Through her battle with the corporation, she eventually meets with the main antagonist, 'Chairman Albert Wesker' (Shawn Roberts).

A number of video game characters also make an appearance in the films, including 'Jill Valentine' (Sienna Guillory), 'Carlos Olivera' (Oded Fehr), 'Claire Redfield' (Ali Larter), 'Chris Redfield' (Wentworth Miller) and 'Leon S. Kennedy' (Johann Urb).

The entire franchise of movies have collectively earned $673 million worldwide on budgets totalling $183 million.

Sony will release the new film, Sept. 14, 2012.

"Gotham City Impostors" - January 10, 2012

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment report that the download-only, first-person shooter game "Gotham City Impostors" will be available January 10, 2012 on Xbox LIVE Arcade, the PlayStation Network and for the PC.

An open beta for the game will go live December 2011.

"...in 'Gotham City Impostors', up to 12 players battle for control of an unhinged 'Gotham City' overrun by 'Impostors' inspired by the DC Comics characters 'Batman' and 'The Joker'.
