While GK Films continue developing a new feature film in the "Tomb Raider" franchise, based on the best-selling "Tomb Raider" video games, for producers Graham King and Tim Headington, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have revealed the full "Crossroads" trailer for the next "Tomb Raider" video game, available March 5, 2013.

The new game, seeking to 'reinvent' protagonist 'Lara Croft' with a gritty, new origin story, is the first 'Lara Croft' game since the completion of Square Enix's buyout of UK-based Eidos Interactive in 2009 for $117 million. "Forget everything you knew about 'Tomb Raider'," said Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher. "We are exploring things that have never been done before..." "...After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was traveling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach. On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive.

"Here begins the first adventure for a young and inexperienced 'Lara Croft' in a story which charts the journey of an ordinary woman who finds out just how far she must go in order to stay alive..."

The first "Tomb Raider" game launched in 1996, developed by Eidos Studio Core Design. In 2003, Eidos moved the series to Crystal Dynamics, developers of video games "Tomb Raider: Legend", "Anniversary", "Underworld" and the downloadable "Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light".

According to Square Enix, the "Tomb Raider" video game franchise, which spun-off two feature films starring actress Angelina Jolie, has sold over 35 million units.

Little Orbit Revolves Around "Young Justice: Legacy"

Games publisher Little Orbit and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirm that the upcoming "Young Justice: Legacy' video game, is on course to ship early 2013 for PlayStation3, Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii and the Nintendo DS hand held system.

"The new video game contains a slew of cool features and a large playable cast of familiar heroes," said Matt Scott, CEO of Little Orbit.
"But our core mission is to create a unique experience that fits seamlessly into the world of the show and offers a new way to interact with these popular 'DC Comics' characters."

Crystal Dynamics Plugs Into "Lara Croft"

Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics, reports that the next "Tomb Raider" video game is being pushed back from Fall 2012 to early 2013.
"When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the 'Tomb Raider' franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about," said Gallagher.

"The first was to create a modern 'Tomb Raider' game that would surprise and excite gamers. The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. 'Skrulls' Infiltrate "Marvel: Battle Earth"

Marvel is teaming up with Montreal-based Ubisoft to develop a "Marvel : Battle for Earth" video game, featuring the shape-shifting, reptilian 'Skrulls'.

The game will be based on Marvel Comics' "Secret Invasion" storyline.

That comic book cross-over story arc, followed the Skrulls as they prepared to invade Earth, with key figures in the Marvel Universe replaced by Skrull sleeper agents.

Microsoft reports that video game "Halo 4" set to be released November 6, 2012, will be accompanied by the debut of a new live-action web series, "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn", premiering on Machinima.

Warners' New Line Cinema continues to develop a big screen version, for producer John Rickard ("Final Destination"), of the 1986 Bally Midway arcade game "Rampage".

That game spawned five Atari home video games including "Rampage: Total Destruction" released in 2006.

Premise has players taking control of gigantic monsters trying to survive against military forces, with each level completed only when a specific city is reduced to rubble.

Up to three simultaneous players control the monsters 'George' (a "King Kong"-like gorilla), 'Lizzie' (a "Godzilla"-like dinosaur), or 'Ralph' (a giant 'werewolf'), created from mutated humans.

When they were humans, George was a normal middle aged man, Lizzie was a young woman and Ralph was an elderly man, but they were experimented on at 'Scumlabs'.

As monsters, they raze all buildings in a high-rise city to advance to the next level, eating people and destroying helicopters, tanks, taxis and police cars along the way.

"The Dark Knight Rises" In LEGO

Sneak Peek a trailer for the upcoming 'Batman' feature "'The Dark Knight Rises", animated with 'lego' building blocks.

The Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and LEGO Group video game, "LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes", will be available Summer 2012 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation3 computer entertainment system, the Wii system and Windows PC, the Nintendo DS hand-held system, Nintendo 3DS hand-held system and PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system.

The game is the sequel to the best-selling "LEGO Batman: The Videogame", which to date has sold more than 11 million units worldwide.

"LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes" also complements the recently released "LEGO Super Heroes: DC Universe" toy collection, including five construction sets, 'The Batcave' and three buildable, detailed action figures :

Anchor Bay Wrestles With "Monster Brawl"

"Monster Brawl", the $200,000 independent horror-comedy feature filmed in Collingwood Ontario last year, will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in Canada, March 27, 2012.

Written and directed by Jesse T. Cook in the tradition of a 'Pay-Per-View' main event, "Monster Brawl" stars Dave Foley ("NewsRadio") as play-by-play announcer 'Buzz Chambers', with the voice of Lance Henriksen ("Near Dark") as the 'Narrator' :

"...laying out wrestling bouts like you've never seen before, 'Monster Brawl' depicts a wrestling-style fight to the death set inside an abandoned and cursed graveyard, shown in a pay-per-view style atmosphere.

UK Has No Appetite For Bloody "Hunger Games"

According to the British Board of Film Classification, the upcoming Lionsgate feature "The Hunger Games", based on the 'young adult' novel trilogy by author Suzanne Collins, was forced to edit down director Gary Ross' final cut of the film, in order to receive a '12A' rating in England,

The 12A rating means fans of the book, under the age of 12 can only see the film in British theaters when accompanied by an adult (to reassure them it is only a movie.)

At the request of the film board, four violent scenes and one scene depicting injuries were toned down, through darkening and the "digital removal of blood".

When that wasn't enough to satisfy the Board, more digital changes were demanded including an additional seven seconds, "to remove an emphasis on blood and injury" from wounds and weapons.

Screenplay For "The Hunger Games" is by Billy Ray ("Shattered Glass").

Premise of the film focuses on 'Katniss Everdeen', a teenage girl forced to represent her 'region' in an annual 'Hunger Games' event, where participants must fight to the death :

"...In this futuristic world, traditional government has gone by the wayside and America is split into 12 regions, each of which must send contestants to this deadly battle each year."

"The Hunger Games" opens March 23, 2012.

Universal Possessed By "Ouija"

Universal, home of the most famous monsters in filmland, confirms renewed development of the board game "Ouija", as a low-budget, high-concept suspense thriller with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions attached to produce for a 2013 release.

Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir will produce for Hasbro, Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will produce for Platinum Dunes and Blum will produce for Blumhouse Productions.

'Ouija' (French/German/Dutch for 'yes', 'oui' and 'ja'), aka 'spirit board' or 'talking board', is a flat board marked with letters, numbers and other symbols, designed to communicate with 'spirits'.

A 'planchette' (heart-shaped piece of wood) or movable indicator is used to indicate the spirit's message by spelling it out on the board during a 'séance'.

The fingers of the séance participants are placed on the planchette, which then moves along the board to spell out words or become physically manifest.

Following its commercial introduction by businessman Elijah Bond in the late 1890's, the Ouija board was regarded as a harmless parlor game unrelated to the occult until noted American Spiritualist Pearl Curran popularized its use as a 'divining' tool during World War I.

While Ouija believers feel the paranormal or supernatural is responsible for Ouija's action, it may be more explained by unconscious movements of those controlling the pointer, a psychophysiological phenomenon known as the 'ideomotor' effect.
