The Google Adsense program compensates the affiliate in a pay-per-click basis. The advertisers would pay Google a certain amount each time their ad on your site is clicked and Google would then forward this amount to you through checks, although only after Google have deducted their share of the amount. Google Adsense checks are usually delivered monthly. Also, the Google Adsense program provides webmasters with a tracking tool that allows you to monitor the earnings you actually get from a certain ad.

So, where do all of these lead us to?

Where else but to profits, profits and even more profits! Affiliate marketing programs and the Google Adsense program simply work, whether you are the merchant or the affiliate. For the merchant’s side, a lot of money can be saved if advertising effort is concentrated on affiliate marketing rather than on dealing with advertising firms. Make Money with Google AdWords - Affiliate Marketing

One of the simplest ways to make money online is to use Google AdWords to market products for which you are an affiliate.

In my last article I touched on a few different ways to make money online. One of the simplest ways to do this is to use Google AdWords to market products for which you are an affiliate.

One of the best affiliate programs available is ClickBank. They have hundreds of items available for affiliate marketing. They don't allow any products that aren't digital, available for immediate download. It takes only a few minutes to get signed up as an affiliate, and it costs nothing. The signup form is here.

Once you have an affiliate account with ClickBank, you need to log in, and find a product you want to market. This can be done at the ClickBank Marketplace. The products are ranked using a proprietary system designed by ClickBank. This system attempts to place the products most likely to make you money at the top of the list. It takes into consideration several factors, including previous sales trends, and conversion rates. (A conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who are referred to a site that actually purchase the product described).

Go to the marketplace, and pick a product you'd like to market. Look at the product's home page, and decide whether it's something you think people will be interested in. Look at the cost of the product, and the percentage commission you will earn for sales. Obviously the higher the commission the better, but picking a product that sells well is more important than picking a product with a high commission. Once you've found your product, click the link that says "Earn X%". This will pop up a window telling you what your affiliate link should be for this seller. Copy the link down, and save it for the time being.

Next you need to find a way to get people to click this link. As you may have guessed by now, Google's AdWords program is the easiest way to get started. The other option is to start your own web site, but this takes some time and quite a bit more effort. I'll cover some of these topics in coming articles. For now we'll focus on AdWords.

First, you'll need to sign up for an AdWords account. Go to the main AdWords site and click the button labeled "Click to begin". You'll need to tell Google a few things about your target market, and then you can create an ad. I'll go into more detail about how to create the perfect ad a bit later, but for now I'll focus on a few important things. First, make sure you read the Editorial Guidelines for AdWords. There's a link on the page where you're setting up your ad. One thing to note is that Google requires you to put the word "Affiliate" or "Aff." in your ad so people know you're an affiliate. You also can't do things like use a bunch of exclamation marks or type your ad all in caps. There's an automated review process which will catch most of these errors, and a human review process which will catch most things not caught by the automated review.

Enough of what not to do. Try to make your ad eye-catching, without violating the guidelines. Use active verbs, and make sure you use relevant keywords you think potential customers might be searching for. Google will highlight keywords in your ad when they're part of the user's search phrase.

Once you've created your ad text and gotten past the automated review, you're ready to choose keywords. Choose the keywords you think are most relevant to your product. Even if you can create an ad with a fantastic click through rating that drives hordes of people to your affiliate link, you won't make any money unless those people actually buy the product. Type in some keywords, and use the "Keyword Tool" on the right hand side of the page to get suggestions from Google. Also think about common misspellings for keywords. This can be a good way to get some cheap clicks that are still relevant.

You'll next have to determine how much you are willing to pay. The best strategy is to start out small. Spending even $10 per day can give you an idea of what might work and what might not. Once you have an ad that's working, and you've made a couple of sales, you can increase your max cost per day. Keep in mind that if you have high demand keywords, and a low maximum Cost Per Click, your ad may never get shown, or it may be shown on page 99 of the Google results. You need to find a balance between paying $5 for a single click, and not having your ad shown at all. Usually the "recommendations" made by Google are way too high, and will cause you to go broke in a hurry.

Almost done now. You'll now need to finish signing up for your account. You'll need a credit card so Google can charge you when your ads are clicked. They'll add everything up and charge you once per month or so for all of your clicks. Do be careful about spending your entire budget on the first day. You'll need a couple weeks at least to try to evaluate what works and what doesn't. Don't be afraid to start small, and work your way up slowly to making more sales.

Google Launches Affiliate Network

Google is now in the affiliate-marketing business, having launched the Google Affiliate Network, a rebranding of the network run by DoubleClick's Performics business. In the typical affiliate program, publishers place links on their Web site to online retailers or other e-commerce sites and receive a commission for each referral they pass along. The relaunched network will put Google in competition with large affiliate networks such as ValueClick's Commission Junction and LinkShare, a division of the Japanese concern Rakuten. The rollout comes as Google has been talking up new ad-driven business lines and integrating the recently acquired online ad powerhouse DoubleClick. Google, which built much of its empire on pairing ads with people's search queries, is looking to expand its display-ad network through its new DoubleClick assets, and accelerate its video advertising both on YouTube and through the new AdSense for video product. Many online retailers derive business through affiliate programs, either in-house or through an outside network. Amazon.com runs its own program. eBay recently followed suit, dropping its long-standing partner Commission Junction and taking its network in-house. Among the larger retailers participating in the Google's network are Barnes & Noble, Circuit City and Target. Advertisers pay through a cost-per-action (CPA) model, in which they are charged only for the placement when a customer makes a purchase or takes another action that qualifies as a conversion. Publishers will receive their commissions twice a month. Google said that it will put each application through a quality review, admitting publishers into the network at its own discretion. Once they have been added to the network, publishers will be able to apply to advertisers, who can decide on a case-by-case basis which sites are a good match for their links.

Affiliate Marketing Litigation Raises Concerns

It's a nervous time in the affiliate-marketing space. A controversial law took effect in New York last month that requires merchants who run affiliate programs to collect sales taxes on purchases made in that state, even if they don't have any employees or operations there. Amazon and Overstock.com are fighting the law in court, but many fear that if it holds up, other states will follow suit, and affiliate marketers will become responsible for keeping track of overwhelmingly complex state and local tax codes. Prior to the law, individual consumers were responsible for reporting out-of-state purchases on their income tax returns, but most people either didn't know about that law or ignored it. Performics launched as an independent network in 1998. In 2004, it was acquired by DoubleClick, which was in turn bought by Google in a $3.1 billion deal that closed in March. In addition to its affiliate-marketing business, Performics also carries a search-marketing division, which Google is in the process of selling. ConnectCommerce.com will continue to host the affiliate network, but it will eventually be converted to a Google.com URL, Google said.

If you buy Google Shadow, then process with would go like this: a) find a product to promote, like a clickbank product. B) search for low traffic, highly profitable keywords. C) Write Ads inside your Adwords campaign using a very intuitive software and linking it to the Clickbank affiliate product. E) Wait for sales.

If, after completing this series of steps there are no sales, then you would tweak the your Adwords campaign. If the sales start coming in, then you would tweak to scale it and make maximum profits.

Is Google the way to go for affiliate marketers?

Let's have a look and see if Google is the best way to promote your business as an affiliate marketer or if there are better ways - why do they say no to Clickbank links and what does the Stockholm syndrome has to do with it? And finally will have a look at why all most all affiliate marketers are content with following instead of leaving.

The fact is that you're not able to promote your affiliate product from Clickbank with your affiliate ID. Isn't it strange someone is willing to hand over a bunch of advertising dollars to them but they say no! Google really doesn't like affiliate marketers. I live in Stockholm, Sweden but that doesn't mean I suffer from the Stockholm syndrome, but the thing is that many marketers seem to be, because they agree with Google even though they are playing by their rules almost as if they were held hostage. This is known as the Stockholm syndrome, but there are ways to get out of this bond made up of their rules - their slapping and their steep prices for terms they don't happen to love - luckily for us. One of the answers is Yahoo advertising. Yahoo is superbly and many advertisers say that surfer from Yahoo is much more responsive, that the traffic is more targeted and still cheaper than on AdWords.

So how come there are so few affiliate marketers on Yahoo? Interestingly enough this is another psychological factor because all the gurus and all the other marketers are telling you to use AdWords exclusively and since they do it you follow and so does everyone else, the outcome is that you are competing against giant advertising agencies and super affiliates who have the power of spending millions of dollars, but you don't. It doesn't matter how many gurus systems or guides or "secrets exposed" you buy - you still have to compete with the huge masses promoting the exact same thing you but no one is willing to tell you this.

Are Affiliate Programs Pwned by Google

There is a lively discussion at Cost Per News about bloggers, affiliate marketing, and whether the twain shall meet.

It all started with Sam Harrelson's thesis, "Are Bloggers the New Affiliates?". Sam wonders is bloggers are the new long tail. I think he's on to something, but I think that question could have just as well been asked a few years ago.

That is when I started focusing on recruiting bloggers as affiliates, especially those monetizing their blogs with BlogAds at the time.

Anyhow, the blogger as affiliate issue was a continuation of an earlier discussion on Cost Per News about working the long tail.

There was a good point there from Jeff Doak of KowaBunga! Technologies:

"I’ve said several times before that until affiliate marketing is as easy as AdSense, there are going to be issues with bloggers adopting the model."

I'd say two of the most renowned affiliate programs out there are Amazon.com and eBay, and both are doing some interesting things that make it as easy for bloggers to promote them as it is to run Google AdSense ads.

In a recent interview on the Affiliate Thing show, Gene Kavner, former World-Wide Director of the Amazon Associates Program, described Amazon's Omakase Links for affiliates:
