SO first things first! And here's Thanksgiving at Serenity Cabin at Lick Creek (aka Aunt Marilyn & Uncle Jack Ed's new Tennesee cabin) with them, Nana, Papa, Cousin Michelle, Cousin Lindsey and Beau Will (mommy & border="0" ismap="ismap" />

Last week Greg kicked off his new job at Bread for the World with a week of training in D.C. Gina tried to take advantage of his absence by grabbing Anna and fleeing to Perdido Key, FL, to her aunt and uncle's beach condo. But Greg learned a thing or two about intelligence operations in our nation's capital (thanks, Patriot Act!) and successfully tracked them down for a more joyous reunion than this hyperbolic narration suggests.

Now, we knew our girl loved dirt, sticks, and the like, but we weren't sure how she'd react to the sand and high seas. Holy sand dunes, she loved them so much!! The first time she set foot on the white stuff, she took off like a woman possessed. She had a blast digging, shoveling, and yes, even swallowing a few mouthfuls of sand. Greg dodged an army of wily jellyfish to take her out for her first dip in the ocean (editor's note: he sustained one sting for his brave fatherly efforts). The pool proved a less dangerous but equally exciting aquatic experience. Anna kicked and paddled like Michael Phelps (at age one).

All in all, we had a great few days with Aunt Marilyn, Uncle Jack Ed, cousins Lindsey and Michelle, and Michelle's hot boyfriend, the "Flaming Colleen". Bottom line? Well Anna could be the star of its modern counterpart, "My Two Moms". Anna helped him out in this department by leaving her footprint not only on mommy's heart but also on quick-dry plaster. But after 3 years of laborious love, I finally graduated with my Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. Commencement took place on May 17, the same exact day that my sister, Laura, graduated from Christian Theological Seminary (also CTS for the acronym-ically savvy) in Indianapolis with her Master's in Counseling. Way to go, sis!! As for me, it was a satisfying day to pause and look back over the previous three years: the ways in which I and my family have grown relationally, spiritually, intellectually, and physically (I'm referring mainly to Anna though my waist size has unfortunately grown ever so slightly as well). <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZWqyCPa9GIe_mq4BGqTA5cp0FSFeBVn1_LvkxSUKLZqBsevg3hyCncQp_eeZWvNg6IpeLqIoCIf7zCCQc4KCxpNiFuNlUVBdkkWMnMyh1B9SY5XjRqtm4SibGSB_iVBJQdF6VtwUSPyOZ/s320/20080516_0008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217403794482296018" />Anna was there to celebrate the accomplishment in her own special way...by sleeping through the ceremony. Right on cue, though, she woke up as we were beginning to take pictures inside the sanctuary. She's obviously beaming with pride :)
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgam_yGF_K3RxxoQp8nE8dY4z_Miaa8L5RK3VTNUohI3yYK1VF-m4aX1BpSdcM0J2l0qUxiuH2HR-Q-1y6kAFm_W2_7kncGMce-nGmJ1SomLFmSAyx6bi8LU5r_MjJOkO-hESSEgHNpfBAx/s320/20080516_0021.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217404196151763266" />
As of graduation, I still did not see clearly how seminary fit into God's purpose for the next stage of our lives. Within a few weeks, however, I was offered a job with Bread for the World, a collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad, as their Southeastern Regional Field Organizer based out of Atlanta. Truly a gracious invitation to employ my theological training on behalf of poor and hungry people around the world. So we're staying put in Atlanta, at least for the time being. And get this: my office is 6 floors up from Gina's in the same building! Normally this would be fertile ground for office romance, but what do you do when you're already married?

running is for the birds

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYdn1nc4nCn9mNXmBNNAIdFEUISfrXHiXkCk_SmKqxiy8bhSFvMvlYaJoCQ8qycfYPtmFa22mxBy4Gcv3MITsGbqDb7ekVW-GZVf-FMVgAWfQ_OsEgK02EHZREmdixydWGar-d5HhGBa5B/s320/20080426_0007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216773997572953218" />After traipsing 13.1 miles on foot through the streets of Nashville, Gina might tell you walking is, too. The last weekend in April we made the journey to the homeland for the famed Country Music Marathon. Initially the plan was simple and painless: spectate. But the day before the race, in a show of unparalleled kindred solidarity, Gina decided to register so that she could walk the half-marathon with her mom, aunt, and 2 cousins.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqc8YX9UbhwSaZi_epJOmVTQX3DpRtQaaoTJQWmgkK617R5k6SnTb_3z5o4zZJNQdZBeVdATbx1QDCPFOvuvaVS09qK88OHcZIX6N4XWakZk2EGUAgygBig1k5HbDuYRlQ9fq7an2ibxBH/s320/20080426_0013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216774151681499666" />She had not trained, mind you. Not one bit. But my bipedal wonder persevered and completed the course in a scorchingly fast 4+ hours (editor's note: I'm pretty sure they stop counting minutes once you cross the 240 barrier). Anna proved the decisive factor in her mommy's and nana's will to conquer Nashville one step at a time, popping up along the course at critical moments to lend moral support.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhni6e_a0vo27TmHMs1DdHZGYmAe9DdX-9la7QM4YaqBBj9dFGeGi9FPY8is9NO1iSOOPqausbJJ3eunsmJWC8ZuwPjKpFjX81Ms5z3bYUx_bxiguaHAc_34mVSIX3BGTml5lfguwdCOsFs/s320/20080426_0018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216775510747444722" />A spectator's observation: it's almost as exhausting driving all over town and getting in and out of the car with an infant just for a 2-minute pit stop as it is actually racing. So much has happened since our last post in February that I can't show it all. But I'll try to hit the highlights in this and the entries that follow. First up is Anna's dedication to the Lord at Harvest Community Church on March 7. The Nazarene Church performs both infant baptism and baby dedication, but after some deliberation we opted for dedication largely so that the exhortation "Remember your baptism" might actually have some concrete referent in her memory. Our pastor, Derek, gave beautiful voice to our faith in God's grace toward Anna and our hope that she will grow up to walk in the way of Jesus. For her part, she hammed it up throughout, clapping her hands and pulling up her dress. She's got Gina's flair for the limelight!

I've also thrown in a few Easter pics for good measure. The bunny ears were Gina's idea, not mine. Who knew heresy could be so cute? Enjoy!

<img style="display:block; Apparently Barack's appeal extends beyond the young adult demographic to the "I don't have teeth yet" age group. Gina gave Anna a head start on her civics lessons by taking her to the neighborhood polling station on Super Tuesday to cast a ballot (bold prediction to follow) for the next President of the United States! The three of us matched the rest of the day with our "I'm a Georgia Voter" stickers proudly displayed.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3PZCyalqipvwk8LlngJ8wZlESRxedakEqGidaVF1Thu9Bv5ACYSwVHbzDo2Hhpsxx3dSfuchG4ZbjLIOyw5mrh5NDGkEDoLpeX_yhfLihEsdLRjKftm8RVhhlAdy_GfkWIGsnPNj3fIoX/s200/n49500450_30480133_7172.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172186678739912210" />

Snow Bunny

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo5RS8fTzUtVsTE95XdoQZchqetIWqX31ng_ZtLnGktPcO5x7cFTv_4YMOZpwn4iJsX1rGNoKQISHMsd9wTjjnUnp117eJMw8mEwBn3P8fYmigmU-75iZLGt8zLSDc2viGwXYJRSA-FTKI/s200/20080119_0018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172158323365823970" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAiw9KU27AuAM_n5fsBsSSEYCwcTJU3HPYuVL1zk36THd14lOcnuoyt9Fd1K5169e_piVb6G-C0CIMkQaQiI-Az82NdjKopaS86gTYBAD8vo8wENFiGh-INEX2LqnknMFdjjcCjjh4y-xF/s200/20080119_0016.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172157996948309458" />

No, the national news reports about snow in Atlanta yesterday were totally unfounded (fascinating that I had 2 non-Atlantans ask me about snow when I didn't hear a word about wintry weather predictions on our local news stations). I guess the global information network can't replace good 'ol local journalism. Anyway, these pics are from the only snowfall of the year to date, back around New Years. It was Anna's first encounter with the white stuff, and she was relatively unphased by the whole thing. Hopefully, that'll change. We did teach her how to make the perfect snowball and launch a surprise attack, though. Daddy will make a hurler out of her yet!

First Christmas

They've been a long time in coming, but finally here are a few pics of Anna's first Christmas. She followed Santa clear across the country, nipping at his heels first in Portland, OR, and then in Nashville. She actually caught up with him at Macy's in downtown Portland and snagged a picture or two with the man in the red suit. The trip to Portland to be with Gina's family marked Anna's first flight in an airplane...a big deal. Gina was understandably nervous, but mother and daughter did very well on the flight out. The flight back wasn't quite as pretty as Gina was miserably sick and had to hold Anna in her lap the entire time. But they made it home safe and sound, which was all we could ask for.

Anna got plenty of attention over the holiday from both sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, so much so that when we finally settled back in Decatur I think she was disappointed to find only Gina and I available to entertain her. We only intensified her frustration with our decision to let her "cry it out" in order to break her habit of waking up multiple times at night. She surprised us...after only 2 nights of parental and infant anguish, she began to sleep for a solid 8 hours. We really do have the perfect baby :) We've moved on to sampling solid foods now with mixed results. Spitting and bright orange carrot mush is a lethal combination! More on this new culinary adventure in a later post.

Belly Full of Laughs

Most people come away from the typical Thanksgiving feast with a belly full of turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole...any and every conceivable version of casserole, really. At least, that's what the 21 of us who gathered at my grandmother's house came away from the table with. Anna, on the other hand, apparently ingested a belly full of laughs when we weren't looking. It all spilled out when we went out back after dinner to burn off our newly accumulated calories by playing tag with the Johnston and Gray kids. We've noticed for a while how much Anna cracks up watching and interacting with other kids...this time we caught it on tape. What you can't see very well in this clip is how fast her little legs were churning as she watched her cousins dart around the yard. I'm no talent scout, but any of you track, soccer, or swimming coaches out there might want to pay attention. I, of course, will be acting as her agent...

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

So I'm walking home from class about a week and a half ago and check my voicemail to find a high-pitched, ecstatic message from Gina breathlessly telling me that Anna rolled over for the first time. And not only one time, but five or six times in succession. You can hear how proud her mama is in this clip, and her daddy is, too, of course. I'm still trying to teach Anna that tummy-time would be much more enjoyable if she propped herself up on her elbows and hands, but she's only slowly grasping the wisdom of her elders, still preferring more often than not to thrust her arms out like an airplane and churn her legs like she's swimming the 400m IM. When she finally figures out how to coordinate and channel her vast ambulatory energies, we're not going to be able to keep up with her. Good thing our apartment is small!

NC Trip

The second weekend in November we packed up the car for another road trip and headed to Cary, NC to visit Greg's grandmother and Anna's great-grandmother Kelley. The name should sound familiar...it's where Anna gets her middle moniker. Not surprisingly, they hit it off great. How couldn't they? Not only do they share a name but a significant dose of spirit and attitude to boot. Greg's Aunt Jacque and Uncle Boe provided the housing and the hospitality, and Greg's sister and bro-in-law made the trek to round out the family gathering. Anna demonstrated her enthusiasm for our time together by promptly peeing all over her clothes and changing pad right after we arrived on Friday night. Cool. It wasn't the only event of the weekend involving errant liquid. At Grandmother Kelley's birthday dinner on Saturday night, our waitress spilled an entire glass of red wine all over my sister. Truly spectacular in its soakage. Needless to say, we received very attentive service the rest of the night (though they failed to comp her meal - boo!). All in all a great weekend.

Back Online

I swear, good help is so hard to find these days. First, our housekeeper goes MIA (for several years now). Then, the blogmaster responsible for keeping our family and friends up to speed on Anna's adventures drops the ball for almost a month. Don't worry, he'll be getting a thorough tongue-lashing. So much has happened in the last few weeks, it's hard to know where to begin. I suppose turning 3 months old (September 30) is a good place to start...

<img style="display:block; So have mommy and daddy. Gina went back to work the first week of October. It was a bumpy start, but she's getting back in the swing of things, working 30 hours/week. Greg is halfway through his second to last semester at CTS and adjusting to the jarring reality that graduation will be here sooner than he thinks. Mia Sharon is in town this weekend to get her Anna fix, and the three of us will be headed to North Carolina next weekend to introduce Anna to her great-grandmother Kelley and aunt Jacque. Should be great. We'll try to do better at keeping you all updated. Until next time, be well!

Jibberish: The Universal Language

This is hysterical!!

Is it Chili in Here?

It's official. Anna has now been to her first chili cook-off to experience firsthand this great American culinary and cultural tradition. The names speak for themselves: "The Punisher", "Chuck, Chicks & Chili", "White Trash Chili", and "'Roid Rage Chili". My personal vote went to "Team Rolades" if no other reason than the fact that they had a precocious 10-year old boy hawking their product like a seasoned auction caller. The chili was pretty good, too, though I was slightly disappointed with the overall creativity and diversity of the entries. Granted, after downing about 30 mini-cups of chili, you reach a point where they do all tend to taste alike. Anna had a good time people-watching and groovin' to the sweet sounds of southern rock cover bands (lots of them!). She also found time to pose for a few photo opps.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAdKiubAbOOahFW-x8OdcP_xtKh9ucxpdKFAuniVG_ClyodSDm8SMMg8GVpEX8QLU1-Vyv5nLaIxbcE4QXWVEro2x0Ei4ePm8UcfRFgVPdD1WaN542XyxBQlxthWEAXNCJjl1ZYa6GTK8s/s320/20070929_0030.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5116115992146776178" />
Feel the burn!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_NKf3lmAH_1DqtaDX4tPupPg0mq1c-gQ88azxX5N3jPE0ptvAnkqqbsU99CJJYtJwT3cd7Z7KS_ojxg5vrN-dYBj2BCIZwO7l_3lfgbkEXEkPWQ-6RK4B6oCG1cmWZ0P9gaY5UTX61Kv5/s320/20070929_0029.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5116116249844813954" />
Her workout regimen is finally paying off.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdpLHxOvaUCjoiU1N0ZPb_3cijVm1QtTlBmQgX3v9Q6kkHCxvjPF6yCtrAZk5T1Dewxn2hQimz8nKTl3ALhHdry3EEDG8X08cdMbtKUmGpE6cmnthnLgtqX21cLHunXdfoPcVDzZrRYxZD/s320/20070929_0036.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5116116425938473106" />
I feel the need...the need for speed!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWxLLZvwaM45Uy_D19wXAwQnN2gt8xMw8qujYm6mGRn0ZzN17uS-DIqT3pclgzbhqZXrE3lA_f_iEdRbBnCwYgXAi-O18gW9PKgvBQKhe1Gu3SZk7CSt7xlftzizNO7pXAhybbNfsPRSIz/s320/20070929_0033.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5116116589147230370" />
Checking out the sights and sounds with Mia and Grandaddy.

Look Who's Talking

Three months old and you can already see that Anna is taking after her extroverted mother! She's shaping up to be a very opinionated little girl with lots to say on politics, religion, music, and art (some translation required). In this clip, however, she's telling Mia Sharon how excited she is that she and Grandaddy came to visit.

In addition to people, Anna has two favorite non-animate conversation partners: 1) her brown stuffed dog aptly named "Doggie", and 2) a black and white patterned IKEA pillow on our sofa. She usually chats Doggie up while laying on her changing table. When he tires of matching her verbal wizadry, she sucks on his ear or hand instead. Watching her interact with the pillow is hysterical. Gina discovered its magic by accident one day when the crazy patterns caught Anna's eye. Anna talks to it, laughs at it, and angrily rebukes it depending on her mood. She even frowns and cries when it disappoints her. Hysterical. We're off we're Mia and Grandaddy to the Great Chili Cookoff at Stone Mountain Park. Talk at ya soon.

A Walk in the Park

Last Saturday, we took Anna for a walk in the park...a very big park...Stone Mountain Park to be exact. For those unschooled in local ATL geography, the park boasts the largest exposed piece of granite in the world. It also boasts one of the more ostentatious monuments to Confederate nostalgia around (though our Nashville peeps might nominate the tacky, fiberglass statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest on horseback that guards the shoulder of I-65 at Harding Place as more deserving of this designation. At least the chiseled Confederate generals at Stone Mountain actually reflect real artistic talent. But I digress...) There are miles of great walking trails at Stone Mountain, and the day was too pretty to stay indoors, so we packed up the stroller for a 4-mile walk around the base of the mountain. To our surprise, Anna slept for about 3.5 of the 4 miles. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiwm4nTdZFW6RUDqrXhqi41vO54kF-r4RK1xTZrSQLTAMnqrMIFuXVoOteoVsPwM8MM2HTgWBmxo9ZLIajIcHRXoBzPUT1drELFiMIY6aWiAoPJ2EFl38nB-NcLfcNU93P-jWasjI8zK7O/s320/20070915_0012.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112400059456720898" />
I say surprise because she loves to be outside these days. She especially likes to look at trees...she'll throw her head back and stare up at the branches with big, round eyes. On this day, she demonstrated her affection with a hug. I can honestly say I've never seen a cuter tree-hugger! While Anna is still perfecting the art of hugging, she got's smiling down pat! I won't lie to you...she'll totally melt your heart when she unleashes one on you.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmqNlftcj-wO7nRVmNbdrGzxUOK7xBGVELo3rY3W8e0HEAwnOoRUAhI8A-rhqZIObbEC0RbwMZCPh1JZt-p23dkz6W-EDtwoT1ZfPw2dgKxX6ijq2526UQmGlYLnqVuL10SfLbpUeHJaU5/s320/20070915_0007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112402554832719890" />
But don't be too charmed...she can also be a cool character.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTkzsVnkgqgKrNfAo66jOqRvOobhPOAcLXcXw3lNHl3cRbP6tZOqtsuUaN-UPCMs5QQsQGajGbsbc2qfDA0hdczkADBibQQx5nWjOUN6RCQWKdRpLPHNZanaGzMsgawwmK9i51cTSlc4U_/s320/20070913_0001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5112403581329903650" />

Visual Prayer

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk_vtKEnKlQgtnFORj9M5NqnZxsIFySZdj5L-4a3mRqQ78HIB2-U-esvnzloNTgsh6-1JqVR80HS1GsFBfs-omvnLlb_g03xlhEoFlIPVBxbm7ddGhwzOCThXmLprVgffhpsbjbzqr9n_I/s320/20070727_0022.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5109504191528691746" />
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." -- Isaiah 52:7

Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. Three weeks on the road was fun but it sure is nice to sink into our own beds again. Anna didn't miss hers...it's portable, you see. We're weren't too sure how portable she'd be, but were continually surprised (pleasantly) at how easygoing she was with all the commotion of travel and meeting new people (i.e., getting passed around like a hot potato). By the end, we had logged a total of 38 hours in the car...we figure she cried for less than an hour all told! Way to go, squirt!

The first and last part of our trip in Nashville was spent with the Rice clan. Gina's sister, Kristen, and her beautiful kids - Hunter, Paige, and Noah - were waiting to greet us there when we arrived. The kids were very sweet with Anna, always wanting to hold her or stroke her skin. At one point, Aunt Kristen attempted to capture their collective cuteness on film by staging a cousin photo shoot. Even Kristen's vast skills as a distracter-of-children were severely tested by 4 adorable but impatient kids. Imagine herding cats and you get the idea. Kristen got better shots than I did, so I'll post hers when I get the CD. Anna also made her big-screen debut as a supporting actress in "Brent: The Movie", an epic home movie commemorating Gina's brother, Brent's, 40th birthday. Coming to a poorly produced DVD near you soon.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLEB8IPwsz6mYqOl2Sr0I99rkEYdYy22WS_lcYfY_JwL35hdz7q_3mgGplFUnBWIK1ycemk1_-nTVeyU4h-zL7JuiXYxzvNgE7v6EQnjt3XyeOUCt1icyHlh2-CokPDbIEQN6qMM1mFpnq/s320/20070829_0027.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107856792863672818" />After 2 weeks in Nashville, 10 of us bravely piled into the 15 passenger van and drove to Oklahoma for some R&R (Rices & Reunion). First stop: the Fin and Feather family resort at beautiful Lake Tenkiller in Gore, OK. Anna tried her tiny hand at bowling in one of our outings. Unfortunately, her effort wasn't enough to help the girls defeat the boys. Boys ruled in Nertz, too. Greg and Johnny are a team not to be trifled with.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEj3MlqEJf6aADGftmyxSCEJ_IHdGUGI7AtthVZFUnBj3x-OUSwOh4bTyJzlRfEGv06ziI51DcSjRY9xletOnKQSkazo9vWLhjcjsQwjllsOL-Up9CtOvOjw0AstuHlC_O7IcactmuFfJQ/s320/20070831_0031.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107857346914454018" />Then on to Yukon to hang out with even more cousins, aunts and uncles. On the way, we stopped to visit the gravesite of Papa and Mama Great Darden whom she never had the chance to meet. It was a poignant moment. You can see in the picture Anna's namesake - Anna Ruth Darden.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVkZcoLsu7fpItHimuUVEfAaUWSvXYBXvccYMv2LIG2JBl1s_RHGFxu2GY5Qluf3AgAcEwuGYABA8wU4sSR-cOE9On1FnWmH8Omt5eD4iQTG9gShZd3B3Vx7wAWXeH4hqBWRLyPVPjkt8R/s320/20070902_0051.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107869299808438802" />We had a blast with the rest of the Rice family at the reunion. Dance, Dance Revolution ruled the nightlife...who knew a bunch of Nazarenes could shake their groove-thangs? Admittedly, the in-laws performed better than blood relatives, but we don't need to bring that up. We were so happy that Uncle Brent and Aunt Hal flew in from LA and got to see their newest niece. Brent was especially impressed with Anna's cinematic talent. "What an incredible screen presence!", he was quoted as saying. How blessed we were to introduce Anna to her Greatgrandmother Rice, who celebrated her 95th birthday this year. Anna's got some good genes!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjieJukVE6xZEjQMtIgi3TPKPBbYfaskOiwM0ERy82eaaqKsxoQRADQ2srtFw3MtN34c6XKWPhtumD16hfOw6jG5rWh_L7fDaNYx8OeByY-A803Im2ncgdwuKL_7QIUrKRo0Zqf7QtX5YEI/s320/20070820_0008.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107871009205422642" />Guess it's time to bring this novel to an end. With 3 male nephews on David's side and another in the oven, Tia Laura was thrilled to bond with Anna over their shared estrogen. Dave taught Anna a few hand-to-hand combat moves in between cuddling sessions, and we all generally had a swell time, capped off by the requisite meal at Cracker Barrel on Sunday. The time was too short, but very sweet. Thanks for making the trip, Laura and David!
