The Philosophy of Marriages of The Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)

Introduction
In the early part of eighteenth century, the Christian writers started with new tactics of attacking Islam. They aimed, through publications full of lies and slanders, at diverting attention from the noble framework of Islam and degrading the exalted person of The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny). The basis of that adverse propaganda were the books written by Christian writers of the fifteenth century. A writer had written a book under the title "Refutation to the Religion of Muhammad" which became the source of later writers against Islam. These writers were unacquainted with the real facts about Islam, due to their ignorance of the Arabic language in which Islamic history and holy books were then available.
It is not strange, therefore, to see them writing against the Prophet of Islam, accusing him of lust because he had married a number of wives, whilst other Muslims were restricted to a maximum of four at a time. (They perhaps forgot that the writers of the present Bible have openly accused their own Prophets of having committed adultery
Of course, by misinforming their Christian brothers, and slandering the Prophet of Islam, they hoped to cause a set-back in the fast progress of Islam. But these tactics did not succeed much. We find a number of learned and fair-minded Christian writers defending the Holy Prophet against such slanders, in apologetic language. Undoubtedly these stories of slanders are totally unacceptable to the Muslims, since part of their faith is to believe in the infallibillity ('Ismat or Sinlessness) of the Prophets. But at the same time it is imperative to acquaint the non-Muslims with the true facts.

VERDICT OF HISTORY

Unbiased historians, both Muslims and Christians, are agreed that the number of marriages contracted by the Prophet of Islam was not as a result of lust or to satisfy the sexual desires. If this had been the case, he would not have married the twice widowed Khadijah, 40 years old, at the youthful age of 25 when one is full of emotion and sexual urge. Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) lived together with his first (and, at that time, only) wife, Khadijah happily for 26 years with great mutual affection, despite the fact that young and beautiful girls of Arabia were easily available to him and were keen to be married to the Prophet. Not even once, during that period, did the Prophet take another wife. Undoubtedly he would have at least considered another younger wife simultaneously with Khadijah if he ever suffered from lust and fondness of young women, particularly when the country's customs wholly approved unlimited marriages.

CRITICS DUMBFOUNDED

Let us look at the life history of the Prophet of Islam. During the prime of his life, he remains satisfied with an aged and twice-widowed wife, and does not even think of another. Then during the last ten years of his life, after passing the age of fifty, in his old age, when he is surrounded by various difficult problems of the newly-born Islamic State, he starts marrying a number of wives. Ask these Christian writers why this phenomenon? What logical answer can these critics give to this amazing question? Was it not a difficult exercise and heavy burden to marry widows and support their orphans? Was it easy for a perfectly dignified man in the person of Muhammad (s.a.w.) to marry women of different outlook, characters and tribes, including some of much younger age who were still unaware of the full responsibilities of life? Let us ponder over the reply to these questions as given by a famous western historian, Thomas Carlyle in his book ''Heroes and Heroes Worship". He says in effect that contrary to what his enemies accuse him, Muhammad was never lusty and sexualist and that it was a slander only out of prejudice against him and this indeed is a great injustice. John Devenport says, "and it may then be asked, is it likely that a very sensual man, of a country where polygamy was a common practice, should be contented to twenty five years with one wife, she being fifteen years older than himself" .

LIST OF WIVES OF THE PROPHET OF ISLAM

After the death of his first wife, Khadijah, he married up to twelve wives in this order:-
(1) Sawdah
(2) 'A'ishah
(3) Umm-Salamah
(4) Hafsah
(5) Zaynab bin -Khuzaymah
(6) Zaynab bint-Jabsh
(7) Umm-Habibah (Ramla)
(8) Maymunah
(9) Zaynab bint-'Umais
(10) Juwayriyah
(11) Safiyah
(12) Khawlah bint-Hakim
Let us examine the circumstances and conditions under which these marriages had taken place. In principle, it can be stated that the marriages were contracted with one or more of the following objectives:-
(1) For the sake of caring for the orphans and looking after the poor widows. These were some Muslim women who had earlier enjoyed high dignity in the Arab society. But on the death of their husbands their status and even faith were in jeopardy, because their tribal chiefs would take them back and compel them to renounce Islam. Thus converting them back to polytheism.For example, Sawdah had migrated to Abyssinia where her husband died, and she became absolutely without helper. It was the time when the Prophet had lost Khadijah, his first wife; so he married Sawdah.
Likewise, Zaynab daughter of Khuzaymah, was an old-aged widow, who after the death of her husband was inflicted with poverty, despite her being amiable and being known as Ummul-Masakih (Mother of the poor). The Prophet married her to uphold her dignity and she died of old age only after two years of that marriage.
(2) For the sake of enacting a new law and eradicating injustice by the ignorant tribes. For example, Zaynab bint-Jabsh was the daughter of the Prophet's aunt. She was married, at the recommendation of the Prophet, to Zayd ibn-Harithah, the freed slave and adopted son of the Prophet. This marriage was contracted to eradicate the discrimination against slaves and poor and to emphasize the Islamic equality and brotherhood, as Zaynab was from the family of 'Abd al-Muttalib, the grandfather of the Holy Prophet and the Chief of Quraysh, whereas Zayd was a slave who was freed by the Prophet.
Unfortunately, Zaynab due to her family pride, did not get along well with Zayd despite the Prophet's persuasions. The rift between the two culminated into divorce. Meanwhile, the system of adoption of children was expressly forbidden by AIlah. So, when Zayd divorced Zaynab, the Prophet of lslam, at the express command of God, married Zaynab; and, thus, put an end to the then prevalent belief that adopted sons were like real sons and that wives or widows of adopted sons were like daughters-in-laws.
(3) For the sake of freeing prisoners and slaves. For example, 'Juwayriyah' was from a prominent tribe of Banuh -Mustalaq. In a war against Islam this tribe was defeated; and Juwayriyah, the daughter of their Chief, was held in captivity. The Prophet married her to set an example of protection and good treatment to prisoners of war. On seeing that the prisoners had become relatives of the Holy Prophet by marriage, the Muslims released all the prisoners of war held by them. According to lbne Hisham, over one hundred families of Banul-Mustalaq were freed from captivity as a result of this marriage.
(4) For the sake of uniting some prominent Arab tribes who often were at logger heads with each other and to safeguard the internal political status of lslam. The Prophet married 'A'ishah daughter of Abu Bakr from the tribe of Bani Tim, Hafsah daughter of 'Umar ibn AI-Khattab from the tribe of Adi, Umm-Habibah daughter of Abu Sufyan from the tribe of Umayyah, Safiyah daughter of Huaiy bin Akhtab of the Jewish tribe of Bani an-Nadir, and Maymunah from the tribe of Bani- Makhzum.
Umm-Habibah (i.e. Ramla) was daughter of Abu Sufyan of Bani Umayyah who was the bitterest enemy of the Prophet and had repeatedly fought against him. She, as a Muslim, was in great distress since she was divorced from her original husband (who had become a Christian in Abyssinia) and her father was a great enemy of Islam. Seeing her deprived of every help from parent and divorced from husband, the Prophet married her in sympathy. This marriage also gave a chance to the people of Bani Umayyah to soften their hearts for Islam.
Safiyah was widowed daughter of Huaiy bin Akhtab, one of the chiefs of a Jewish tribe of Bani an- Nadir,When the prisoners of this tribe were released by the Muslims, the Prophet married her in order to safeguard her status and, thus, also linking himself with one of the great Jewish tribesof that time and paving the way for them to come nearer to Islam. Maymunah was 51 years of age and from a prominent tribe of Bani Makhzom whom the Prophet married in the year 7 after Hijrah.
The above marital history of the Prophet clearly shows the noble aim and objectives for which he married a number of wives. It is not difficult to see that none of these marriages was for personal satisfaction of sexual desires as unjustifiably accused by the Christian writers. Also, it is important to remember that all of these marriages, except that with 'A'ishah, were contracted with women who were widowed not only once, but often twice or thrice.

Educating people and fighting misconceptions about Islam is the challenge taken up by Amanda Quraishi who developed a new smart phone application, Muslim365.

Muslim365 provides daily facts about Islam, including verses from the Qur'an, Hadiths as well as explanations of Arabic words, traditions, beliefs and historical anecdotes.

On her blog, Amanda Quraishi, an American Muslim who embraced Islam 12 years ago, writes “Rather than argue with people who simply want to believe that Muslims are all violent, misogynistic, religious lunatics I thought the best thing to do would be to communicate genuinely with moderate, intelligent folks who really want to get to know more about us…That’s when I came up with the idea of a smartphone app that serves up a daily fact about Muslims and Islam in an engaging and entertaining way.”
With a sense of humor, she told the Austin Stateman.com that the application will not cause you to be "converted, indoctrinated, hypnotized, browbeat, jihad-ed, or added to an FBI watch list."

The 37-year-old Web administrator hopes that the application will mainly help people clear their misconceptions of Islam and get answers to questions. "For a lot of Westerners, Islam can seem really intimidating," she says.

Amanda Quraishi, a mother of 8-year-old twins, describes herself as a "Flaming Liberal Progressive Muslim-American Feminist”. She is well-known for being a passionate supporter of interfaith dialogue. She contributes to a Jewish blog and took a job last month as Web administrator at the Catholic-founded charity Mobile Loaves & Fishes.

The new application is already available free for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches and soon will be available for Android phones.

Islamic Intellectual Heritage and Science

As far as Muslims and Islamic intellectual history is concerned, the religious literalists who opposed logic, like Ibn Taymiyyah, and the mystics who opposed philosophy like Al-Ghazali, were few and far between. Indeed science and theology would have co-existed harmoniously in the Islamic world, as it did for centuries, if scientists and philosophers, had not taken the metaphysical turn and started reflecting on God as if God was a physical entity or a philosophical idea apprehensible through their respective epistemologies.

Over 800 years ago, the great Islamic philosopher and jurist, Ibn Rushd, known in the West as Averroes, not only argued that science and religion were compatible but insisted that the Islamic Shariah mandated the scientific study of the universe as part of the divine law. In an exceptional monograph, Fasl Al Maqaal (the decisive Treatise), Ibn Rushd went even further, he argued that the methods of logical reasoning that Islamic jurists employed in understanding the Shariah, the divine law, were the same as those employed by philosophers to understand the creation and through this get a glimpse of the Creator.

Before readers jump to the conclusion that there is a significant difference between science and philosophy, I want to submit that what Ibn Rushd called philosophy then, we now understand as science. Philosophy for Ibn Rushd was the study of nature as manifestation of the Divine. Hence the conclusions we draw about the mundane world using empirical methods provide deep insights into the sacred.

The great Indian reformer, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan who established the modern university of Aligarh in India, described the harmony of science and religion by arguing that the Holy Quran was the word of God and the creation was the work of God, and the two could not be contradictory. Science, for Muslims, is another way of reading the sacred text. Science, in my opinion, is reflection (fikr) on the work of God and religion is invoking in prayer (zikr) the word of God.

The Quran calls Muslims to Science

Muslims believe that the Quran is the literal word of God and hence all Koranic injunctions are direct orders from their Lord. Therefore most Muslims read the following verses from the Quran as religious mandate for science.

Have they not reflected on the heavens and the Earth and all things God has created? (Quran 7:185).

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.

Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], “Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You (Quran 3:190-191].

There are many more verses in the Quran that demand that Muslims use reason, scientific and historical methods, to understand their world and recognize it as the material manifestation of God’s will. The verses I have reported are the same that inspired Ibn Rushd to conclude that science for Muslims is a sharia requirement.

Having said all the above, I must concede that today we live in the dark ages of Islam. There is no doubt that today the more religious Muslims are, the less scientific they are. Look at societies across the world, nearly everywhere science is welcome and more cherished than in the Muslim world. Tiny European nations do more research in science than the entire Muslim World.

Even in American Muslim communities, especially mosque-centered communities, there is no appreciation for science. Every year Muslims in America host hundreds of conferences, conventions and bazaars, they are all about identity and there is none that appreciates the study of science. There is an association of Muslim scientists but its critical condition is indicative of the health of science in the Muslim World. There are some Muslim scientists in Western universities doing cutting edge research and Muslims who work in applied sciences, like engineers and doctors, but usually in environments fostered by non-Muslims or in those, which are far from removed from the oppressive influence of religious elements.

Some Muslims are trying to show that Islam in its heydays was a bastion of science and innovation. The travelling museum – 1001 inventions – is an excellent example of such endeavors. The works of Dr. Syed Hossein Nasr, who devoted his entire life to make the point that there is such a thing as Islamic science and Islamic philosophy. But the point is, when we talk of Islamic science, we immediately talk about history not science. Islamic science is a thing of the past. Narratives of Islamic science are ghost stories that we tell our children today to shore up their identity as Muslims.

Soon, Muslims will welcome the month of Ramadan. And I will once again witness, with a heavy heart, the board of my local mosque, composed of doctors, computer scientists, and chemists reject science in favor of tradition to determine when Ramadan begins. Rejection of science, for many mosques across the nation, has become a religious ritual of Ramadan.

Yes, science and sharia are surely compatible, but unfortunately at present the believer and science find it hard to co-exist.

Lawyer is always a lier

Express Tribune reported a news story on May 16th about two lawyers who moved to high court two permanently ban facebook remained logged in for average 14 hours a day on facebook.Here is the story

Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique, on whose petition access to the website was banned in the country for two weeks last year, told The Express Tribune he stayed logged into Facebook from 8am to 10pm every day.

Asked whether he considered it hypocritical to spend so much time on Facebook when he was trying to get it banned, Siddique said that he checked the site “to make it mend its ways”. He said much of his time was spent looking at messages from people informing him of any blasphemous material on the site.

He also uses the website to share how his cases are going with his Facebook friends, including his petitions to ban the website. Siddique has posted 323 pictures on his profile, including of family, friends and news clippings of his cases published in the local press.

Siddique first moved the LHC against the website last year because of a Facebook page called ‘Draw Muhammad (pbuh) Day’ in which blasphemous caricatures were put on display. Acting on his plea, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority banned Facebook from March 19 to March 31.

After that, Siddique launched the social networking website Millatfacebook, which billed itself as a social networking website for the world’s more than 1.5 billion Muslims and as a rival to Facebook.

He also lodged a complaint against Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes, the owners of the website, and a woman named Andy, the alleged founder of the offending Facebook page, at Lahore’s Civil Lines Police Station under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code. The police sealed the FIR after registering it.

Siddique filed another petition against Facebook earlier this month again seeking a ban on the website for again hosting a page of drawings of the Holy Prophet (pbuh). The LHC chief justice, hearing the petition, last Thursday told the federal government to think about blocking Facebook for “holding a competition of sacrilegious caricatures”. Another petition by Siddique seeking implementation of these orders is pending before the LHC.

He said as a Muslim, he was doing Islam a service by moving court against the blasphemous material on the site. He said after his petition last year, all the blasphemous material on Facebook on the Draw Muhammad Day 2010 page was removed.

“This is the right way to record a protest against the blasphemy on the Internet,” Siddique said. “There has been no violent protest in the province since I moved the court against the blasphemous caricatures on Facebook. The court proceedings have calmed the public sentiment.”

He denied moving the petitions against Facebook to gain publicity, saying he had many other cases in the courts that were covered in the press. He said the aim of launching Millatfacebook was to counter Facebook and show the Western world that Muslims were not against modern technology, just against the abuse of it. The site has 437,596 registered members.

On May 4 A public interest litigation company Muhammad and Ahmad, through its chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique, moved a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC), requesting a permanent ban on the access of the social networking website Facebook, for again holding an objectionable and blasphemous contest called the “2nd Annual Draw Muhammad Day-May 20, 2011The petitioner stated that the government should be directed to establish a permanent authority, having legal status, which will monitor all objectionable activities across the world that insulted the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as well as other holy personalities belonging to different religions.
Last year facebook is blocked in several Muslim countries like Pakistan, Syria And Turkey for only some days.But now its time to permanently block facebook in all Muslim countries because it is for the respect of Our Beloved Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) .Islam is the second largest religion in the world and if we cannot block facebook forever now then what answer we will give you to Allah and his beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) on the Judgement day.

I think every child is born a natural artist. I am sure that as a
kid you loved to paint. I bet you used to like writing stories or
at least creating imaginary worlds that you'd often escape into.
Yes? You're not alone.

There is great happiness to be found in art and creativity.

But sadly, as we grow older, many of us lose or forget about our
artistic tendencies and (often quite natural) talents. When you
think about it, it's fairly easy to do. Once we leave school the
focus becomes 'get a job' and 'make a living'. Everyone knows that
there's no money in art (not always true but generally speaking, if
we all became artists then there would be no one left to buy our
art. The other problem we have and it's the reason that Van Gogh
died penniless, most art increases in value once the artist has
left this mortal coil, so that's not much good if you need to make
money TODAY).

True Story: I wrote poetry at school. It came easy to me. As the
class rebel it ruined my street cred but I enjoyed it. I then left
school and never wrote another line for around 20 years. The fact
that since then I've written over 250,000 of them is neither here
or there. Just think of the lost lines that I never wrote! They

Hydal Electricity generated by WAPDA varies between two extremities i.e. between minimum of 2414 MW and maximum of 6761 MW depending upon the river flow through the whole year.

Total Power Generation Capacity of Pakistan (including all sources) is19855 MW and the electricity demand (as of today 20-04-2010) is 14500 MW and PEPCO is merely generating 10000 MW.

So it is obvious that these 15-20 hrs power shutdowns in most parts of the country are not because of the lack of generation capacity but only because of IMF / World Bank policies imposed on our nation by Govt. The Power Generation companies are not buying Furnace Oil from PSO by saying they don’t have money to do that but we are all paying for Electricity that is generated from Furnace Oil. This is the reason that top refineries like PRL are operating at 40% capacities. IMF / World bank has imposed to reduce budget deficit by importing less crude oil. But due to this fact all our industries are under severe crisis. None of our political party who are in Assembly is ready to speak on it because every one is blessed by US / IMF / World Bank.

Thousands of students that have earned higher education degrees, such as MSc. and PhD., through HEC funding and who are back in Pakistan, will no longer be required to stay in Pakistan, because the HEC bonds will be void.

Thousands others, who are currently studying abroad under HEC umbrella, will no longer be required to return back to Pakistan, because the HEC bonds will be void. I have heard that some of these students are already celebrating their freedom from the bond.

The history of April Fool’s Day is not totally clear. No exact date can be found pinpointing the first official celebration of the holiday. There are, however, many narrations regarding the reason the tradition is practiced., but the current thinking is that it began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX. The Gregorian calendar was introduced, and New Year's Day was moved from March 25 - April 1 (New Year’s week) to January 1.

The Future Of The Global Muslim Population

The Center and its projects receive funding from The Pew Charitable Trusts. This research center issues a very comprehensive report about Muslim population projection in 2030.The Report is published on January 17 2011. Here is that report
The world's Muslim population is expected to increase by about 35% in the next 20 years, rising from 1.6 billion in 2010 to 2.2 billion by 2030, according to new population projections by the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life.
Globally, the Muslim population is forecast to grow at about twice the rate of the non-Muslim population over the next two decades -- an average annual growth rate of 1.5% for Muslims, compared with 0.7% for non-Muslims. If current trends continue, Muslims will make up 26.4% of the world's total projected population of 8.3 billion in 2030, up from 23.4% of the estimated 2010 world population of 6.9 billion.
While the global Muslim population is expected to grow at a faster rate than the non-Muslim population, the Muslim population nevertheless is expected to grow at a slower pace in the next two decades than it did in the previous two decades. From 1990 to 2010, the global Muslim population increased at an average annual rate of 2.2%, compared with the projected rate of 1.5% for the period from 2010 to 2030.

These are among the key findings of a comprehensive report on the size, distribution and growth of the global Muslim population. The report by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life seeks to provide up-to-date estimates of the number of Muslims around the world in 2010 and to project the growth of the Muslim population from 2010 to 2030. The projections are based both on past demographic trends and on assumptions about how these trends will play out in future years. Making these projections inevitably entails a host of uncertainties, including political ones. Changes in the political climate in the United States or European nations, for example, could dramatically affect the patterns of Muslim migration.

If current trends continue, however, 79 countries will have a million or more Muslim inhabitants in 2030, up from 72 countries today.1 A majority of the world's Muslims (about 60%) will continue to live in the Asia-Pacific region, while about 20% will live in the Middle East and North Africa, as is the case today. But Pakistan is expected to surpass Indonesia as the country with the single largest Muslim population. The portion of the world's Muslims living in sub-Saharan Africa is projected to rise; in 20 years, for example, more Muslims are likely to live in Nigeria than in Egypt. Muslims will remain relatively small minorities in Europe and the Americas, but they are expected to constitute a growing share of the total population in these regions.
In the United States, for example, the population projections show the number of Muslims more than doubling over the next two decades, rising from 2.6 million in 2010 to 6.2 million in 2030, in large part because of immigration and higher-than-average fertility among Muslims. The Muslim share of the U.S. population (adults and children) is projected to grow from 0.8% in 2010 to 1.7% in 2030, making Muslims roughly as numerous as Jews or Episcopalians are in the United States today. Although several European countries will have substantially higher percentages of Muslims, the United States is projected to have a larger number of Muslims by 2030 than any European country other than Russia and France.
In Europe as a whole, the Muslim share of the population is expected to grow by nearly one-third over the next 20 years, rising from 6% of the region's inhabitants in 2010 to 8% in 2030. In absolute numbers, Europe's Muslim population is projected to grow from 44.1 million in 2010 to 58.2 million in 2030. The greatest increases -- driven primarily by continued migration -- are likely to occur in Western and Northern Europe, where Muslims will be approaching double-digit percentages of the population in several countries. In the United Kingdom, for example, Muslims are expected to account for 8.2% of the population in 2030, up from an estimated 4.6% today. In Austria, Muslims are projected to reach 9.3% of the population in 2030, up from 5.7% today; in Sweden, 9.9% (up from 4.9% today); in Belgium, 10.2% (up from 6% today); and in France, 10.3% (up from 7.5% today).
Several factors account for the faster projected growth among Muslims than non-Muslims worldwide. Generally, Muslim populations tend to have higher fertility rates (more children per woman) than non-Muslim populations. In addition, a larger share of the Muslim population is in, or soon will enter, the prime reproductive years (ages 15-29). Also, improved health and economic conditions in Muslim-majority countries have led to greater-than-average declines in infant and child mortality rates, and life expectancy is rising even faster in Muslim-majority countries than in other less-developed countries.
Growing, But at a Slower Rate
The growth of the global Muslim population, however, should not obscure another important demographic trend: the rate of growth among Muslims has been slowing in recent decades and is likely to continue to decline over the next 20 years, as the graph below shows. From 1990 to 2000, the Muslim population grew at an average annual rate of 2.3%. The growth rate dipped to 2.1% from 2000 to 2010, and it is projected to drop to 1.7% from 2010 to 2020 and 1.4% from 2020 to 2030 (or 1.5% annually over the 20-year period from 2010 to 2030, as previously noted).

The declining growth rate is due primarily to falling fertility rates in many Muslim-majority countries, including such populous nations as Indonesia and Bangladesh. Fertility is dropping as more women in these countries obtain a secondary education, living standards rise and people move from rural areas to cities and towns.
The slowdown in Muslim population growth is most pronounced in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East-North Africa and Europe, and less sharp in sub-Saharan Africa. The only region where Muslim population growth is accelerating through 2020 is the Americas, largely because of immigration.

Falling birth rates eventually will lead to significant shifts in the age structure of Muslim populations. While the worldwide Muslim population today is relatively young, the so-called Muslim "youth bulge" -- the high percentage of Muslims in their teens and 20s -- peaked around the year 2000 and is now declining. (See the Age Structure section of the full report for more details.)
In 1990, more than two-thirds of the total population of Muslim-majority countries was under age 30. Today, people under age 30 make up about 60% of the population of these countries, and by 2030 they are projected to fall to about 50%.
At the same time, many Muslim-majority countries will have aging populations; between 2010 and 2030, the share of people ages 30 and older in these countries is expected to rise from 40% to 50%, and the share of people ages 60 and older is expected nearly to double, from 7% to 12%. Muslim-majority countries, however, are not the only ones with aging populations. As birth rates drop and people live longer all around the globe, the population of the entire world is aging. As a result, the global Muslim population will remain comparatively youthful for decades to come. The median age in Muslim-majority countries, for example, rose from 19 in 1990 to 24 in 2010 and is expected to climb to 30 by 2030. But it will still be lower than the median age in North America, Europe and other more-developed regions, which rose from age 34 to 40 between 1990 and 2010 and is projected to be age 44 in 2030. By that year, nearly three-in-ten of the world's youth and young adults -- 29.1% of people ages 15-29 -- are projected to be Muslims, up from 25.8% in 2010 and 20.0% in 1990.
Other key findings of the study include:
Worldwide
• Sunni Muslims will continue to make up an overwhelming majority of Muslims in 2030 (87%- 90%). The portion of the world's Muslims who are Shia may decline slightly, largely because of relatively low fertility in Iran, where more than a third of the world's Shia Muslims live.
• As of 2010, about three-quarters of the world's Muslims (74.1%) live in the 49 countries in which Muslims make up a majority of the population. More than a fifth of all Muslims (23.3%) live in non-Muslim-majority countries in the developing world. About 3% of the world's Muslims live in more-developed regions, such as Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
• Fertility rates in Muslim-majority countries are closely related to women's education levels. In the eight Muslim-majority countries where girls generally receive the fewest years of schooling, the average fertility rate (5.0 children per woman) is more than double the average rate (2.3 children per woman) in the nine Muslim-majority countries where girls generally receive the most years of schooling. One exception is the Palestinian territories, where the average fertility rate (4.5 children per woman) is relatively high even though a girl born there today can expect to receive 14 years of formal education.
• Fewer than half (47.8%) of married women ages 15-49 in Muslim-majority countries use some form of birth control. By comparison, in non-Muslim-majority, less-developed countries nearly two-thirds (63.3%) of all married women in that age group use some form of birth control.
Asia-Pacific
• Nearly three-in-ten people living in the Asia-Pacific region in 2030 (27.3%) will be Muslim, up from about a quarter in 2010 (24.8%) and roughly a fifth in 1990 (21.6%).
• Muslims make up only about 2% of the population in China, but because the country is so populous, its Muslim population is expected to be the 19th largest in the world in 2030.
Middle East-North Africa
• The Middle East-North Africa will continue to have the highest percentage of Muslim-majority countries. Of the 20 countries and territories in this region, all but Israel are projected to be at least 50% Muslim in 2030, and 17 are expected to have a population that is more than 75% Muslim in 2030, with Israel, Lebanon and Sudan (as currently demarcated) being the only exceptions.
• Nearly a quarter (23.2%) of Israel's population is expected to be Muslim in 2030, up from 17.7% in 2010 and 14.1% in 1990. During the past 20 years, the Muslim population in Israel has more than doubled, growing from 0.6 million in 1990 to 1.3 million in 2010. The Muslim population in Israel (including Jerusalem but not the West Bank and Gaza) is expected to reach 2.1 million by 2030.
• Egypt, Algeria and Morocco currently have the largest Muslim populations (in absolute numbers) in the Middle East-North Africa. By 2030, however, Iraq is expected to have the second-largest Muslim population in the region -- exceeded only by Egypt -- largely because Iraq has a higher fertility rate than Algeria or Morocco.
Sub-Saharan Africa
• The Muslim population in sub-Saharan Africa is projected to grow by nearly 60% in the next 20 years, from 242.5 million in 2010 to 385.9 million in 2030. Because the region's non- Muslim population also is growing at a rapid pace, Muslims are expected to make up only a slightly larger share of the region's population in 2030 (31.0%) than they do in 2010 (29.6%).
• Various surveys give differing figures for the size of religious groups in Nigeria, which appears to have roughly equal numbers of Muslims and Christians in 2010. By 2030, Nigeria is expected to have a slight Muslim majority (51.5%).
Europe
• In 2030, Muslims are projected to make up more than 10% of the total population in 10 European countries: Kosovo (93.5%), Albania (83.2%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (42.7%), Republic of Macedonia (40.3%), Montenegro (21.5%), Bulgaria (15.7%), Russia (14.4%), Georgia (11.5%), France (10.3%) and Belgium (10.2%).
• Russia will continue to have the largest Muslim population (in absolute numbers) in Europe in 2030. Its Muslim population is expected to rise from 16.4 million in 2010 to 18.6 million in 2030. The growth rate for the Muslim population in Russia is projected to be 0.6% annually over the next two decades. By contrast, Russia's non-Muslim population is expected to shrink by an average of 0.6% annually over the same period.
• France had an expected net influx of 66,000 Muslim immigrants in 2010, primarily from North Africa. Muslims accounted for an estimated two-thirds (68.5%) of all new immigrants to France in the past year. Spain was expected to see a net gain of 70,000 Muslim immigrants in 2010, but they account for a much smaller portion of all new immigrants to Spain (13.1%). The U.K.'s net inflow of Muslim immigrants in the past year (nearly 64,000) was forecast to be nearly as large as France's. More than a quarter (28.1%) of all new immigrants to the U.K. in 2010 are estimated to be Muslim.
The Americas
• The number of Muslims in Canada is expected to nearly triple in the next 20 years, from about 940,000 in 2010 to nearly 2.7 million in 2030. Muslims are expected to make up 6.6% of Canada's total population in 2030, up from 2.8% today. Argentina is expected to have the third-largest Muslim population in the Americas, after the U.S. and Canada. Argentina, with about 1 million Muslims in 2010, is now in second place, behind the U.S.
• Children under age 15 make up a relatively small portion of the U.S. Muslim population today. Only 13.1% of Muslims are in the 0-14 age group. This reflects the fact that a large proportion of Muslims in the U.S. are newer immigrants who arrived as adults. But by 2030, many of these immigrants are expected to start families. If current trends continue, the numbers of U.S. Muslims under age 15 will more than triple, from fewer than 500,000 in 2010 to 1.8 million in2030. The number of Muslim children ages 0-4 living in the U.S. is expected to increase from fewer than 200,000 in 2010 to more than 650,000 in 2030.
• About two-thirds of the Muslims in the U.S. today (64.5%) are first-generation immigrants (foreign-born), while slightly more than a third (35.5%) were born in the U.S. By 2030, however, more than four-in-ten of the Muslims in the U.S. (44.9%) are expected to be native-born.
• The top countries of origin for Muslim immigrants to the U.S. in 2009 were Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are expected to remain the top countries of origin for Muslim immigrants to the U.S. in 2030.
About the Report
This report makes demographic projections. Projections are not the same as predictions. Rather, they are estimates built on current population data and assumptions about demographic trends; they are what will happen if the current data are accurate and the trends play out as expected. But many things -- immigration laws, economic conditions, natural disasters, armed conflicts, scientific discoveries, social movements and political upheavals, to name just a few -- can shift demographic trends in unforeseen ways, which is why this report adheres to a modest time frame, looking just 20 years down the road. Even so, there is no guarantee that Muslim populations will grow at precisely the rates anticipated in this report and not be affected by unforeseen events, such as political decisions on immigration quotas or national campaigns to encourage larger or smaller families.
The projections presented in this report are the medium figures in a range of three scenarios -- high, medium and low -- generated from models commonly used by demographers around the world to forecast changes in population size and composition. The models follow what is known as the cohort-component method, which starts with a baseline population (in this case, the current number of Muslims in each country) divided into groups, or cohorts, by age and sex. Each cohort is projected into the future by adding likely gains -- new births and immigrants -- and subtracting likely losses - deaths and emigrants. These calculations were made by the Pew Forum's demographers, who collaborated with researchers at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria on the projections for the United States and European countries. (For more details, see Appendix A: Methodology.)
The current population data that underpin this report were culled from the best sources available on Muslims in each of the 232 countries and territories for which the U.N. Population Division provides general population estimates. Many of these baseline statistics were published in the Pew Forum's 2009 report, Mapping the Global Muslim Population, which acquired and analyzed about 1,500 sources of data -- including census reports, large-scale demographic studies and general population surveys -- to estimate the number of Muslims in every country and territory. (For a list of sources, see Appendix B: Data Sources by Country.)
All of those estimates have been updated for 2010, and some have been substantially revised. (To find the current estimate and projections for a particular region or country, see Muslim Population by Country, 1990-2030.) Since many countries are conducting national censuses in 2010-11, more data are likely to emerge over the next few years, but a cut-off must be made at some point; this report is based on information available as of mid-2010. To the extent possible, the report provides data for decennial years -- 1990, 2000, 2010, 2020 and 2030. In some cases, however, the time periods vary because data is available only for certain years or in five-year increments (e.g., 2010-15 or 2030-35).
The definition of Muslim in this report is very broad. The goal is to count all groups and individuals who self-identify as Muslims. This includes Muslims who may be secular or nonobservant. No attempt is made in this report to measure how religious Muslims are or to forecast levels of religiosity (or secularism) in the decades ahead.

Alexander wanted You Not To Lie – So did Muhammad (SAW)

Writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn is (though he died in 1989) a Russian writer. He wrote against the oppressive regime hence spent a lot of time in jail & under oppression. He was awarded Noble prize in 1970. Alexander did not attend the ceremony personally in Sweden, only because he knew if he goes out of his country he will be denied re-entry. So he sent in his written speech. In that Alexander said a famous sentence. He said:
“I expect from an ordinary person that he will not lie, nor will he take part in or support anything that is based on lies”.
We always talk about the corruption in our system & society but do we ever look at “ourselves”? The biggest problem is that WE ourselves cheat & lie. We want our society to become good but we do not want ourselves to change. How hypocritical?
As the saying goes:
If two people in the world are corrected, the whole world will be corrected, and that is You & I.
If we want our nation (i.e. Muslims, but also applies on others) and our society to become good, we must change ourselves first. We must stop lying and we must not support corrupt activities based on it.

Interest free Non Islamic Bank

I came across this interest free Swedish customer-owned Bank called JAK (Jord Arbete Kapital). Working on the principle of “Not-for-Profit banking”, it neither pays any interest on savings nor charges any on borrowings – a principle it shares with Islamic Banking. JAK is fully registered, licensed and is operating since 1970. It’s founders were non-Muslims. It has 30 paid staff and about 30,000 members or customers. They saved a sum of € 97 million and borrowed € 86 million during the year of 2008.
JAK operates on the following fundamental principles:
    • Taking of interest is inimical to a stable economy;
    • Interest causes unemployment, inflation and environmental destruction – in some
    combination;
    • Interest moves money in the long term from the poor to the rich, and;
    • Interest favours projects, often large-scale, which yield high profits in the short-term.
How True!!!
The way Bank works is:
1- Each member pays a membership fees (very minimal)
2- Members deposit money and earn Points based on the amount & length of time money is left in the bank
3- Members can borrow money, depending on the points they acquired
4- New members can also borrow money if they can arrange two guarantors
5- Loan can also be sanctioned if one can put their property as security. A property bought through the bank loan can be used as security at 75% of the actual value
6- There is a small administrative fees (1 or 2 % of the loan) on loans which is used for running the bank.
Taking an example:
-       Member borrows 12000 for 12 months
-       Member has to pay per month = 1000 + admin fees + 1000 (additional)
-       Member would have paid back 24000 at the end of 12 months
-       The additional 12000 will be returned back to the member at the end
-       This additional money is used to give loans to others during the year
Surprisingly there are very few credit losses or defaulters. It is inspiring because we the Muslims believe in interest free trading but could not manage to implement it anywhere (to the best of my knowledge). The Islamic banking currently in practice is all based on interest bearing banking model and makes up for interest one way or the other. We should learn from this example and setup a real interest free economy. If non Muslims can do it why can t we? After all this is not a need, rather it is Allah’s Order upon us.

Just Read JAK bank’s philosophy:
JAK’s ultimate goal is the abolishment of interest as an economic instrument and to replace it with other, less harmful ones, that are in the best interest of supporting its members in building healthy and sustainable communities.

To achieve this goal, JAK works on two fronts:
1. Ideological: – To disseminate information on the ill effects the taking of interest has on the
economy, society at large and the environment and to inform of alternatives.
2. Practical: – To administer an interest-free savings-and-loan system to show that interest-free financing is not only feasible but also quite valuable in helping to liberate people weighed down with heavy interest loans.
JAK does not operate in any country other than Sweden, though they have helped others in different countries to establish similar banks. There is plenty of information on the internet about them. Please tell about this to people in banking & finance, especially the Islamic minded.

A very Famous Proverb is " One who Tries to emulate others blindly stands to lose “. Nobody knows when this proverb was made and what is in the mind of maker of this proverb when he made it. But it is perfectly fit on today’s Muslims .Because the Muslims are forgetting to ISLAM and trying to adopt the traditions of Christians and Jews. My point of discussion isValentine’s Day. Christians celebrate Valentine’s Day as a religious festival on 14 February. Along with the Westerns this day is also being celebrated in some Muslim countries Pakistan is also included in these countries. The youth of Pakistan is very advanced because Pakistan’s youth think his duty to do copy of others, although this copy proves very expensive for them

The history of Valentine's Day and its patron saint is shrouded in mystery. Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One was a priest and physician who died in Rome during the persecution of Christians by Claudius II Grothicus. The second was the bishop at Terni, Italy who was also martyred in Rome. There is no more information about third person. He was martyred in Africa with a number of companions, but nothing more is known about him. All of these have been buried at different places along the Flaminian Way. Valentine’s Day first time celebrated in England on 1840 A.D and in America On 1847 A.D onward.

Now please give me answer of some questions. Why we are forgetting our religion and why we are adopting others religions? Christians celebrate it as a religious festival but why do we celebrate it? Have we celebrated our religious festivals like these festivals with full zeal and zest? Does Islam gives us permission to act upon the teaching and rules of Christians?

Let’s look in the Holy Quran, Allah says in Surah Aal-e-Imran verse 85

“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” This is saying of Holly Quran Will we celebrate it after this? A very beautiful saying from someone “we fight for Islam and Die for Islam but we does not follow the teaching of Islam”

There are also many social disadvantages of this along with religious disadvantages. Firstly you waste your wealth and Secondly your precious time in its celebration. If you will give the money which you waste in shopping for Valentine’s Day to any your poor Muslim brother , he will pray for you and will give bundle of thanks and you also feel spiritual comfortable.

That time which you waste in valentine’s activities, If you use this time to think about the improvement of your country and Islam you will get much better advantages.

At the end it is my request to all the Muslims that for God sake please avoid celebrating this and try to avoid your friends and relatives. And I also request to the government of Islamic Countries to ban this day. May Allah Almighty give you sensibility to boycott this day .Aameen

Are You Muslim?

Are you Muslim? This is the question that I am asking from every Muslim which is using "Face Book". There is several reason of this question. One of them and Important of them is that this website several time issues the sketches Against Our Holy Prophet (Peace Be upon Him).Today everyone is suffering from the fever of using this website. As a Muslim we should hate this Website but here truth lies on other hand. There are more than4 million users of this website in Pakistan. That is very Shameful for Pakistanis.

Now I am asking a question from you that where is our respect for Islam now? I think we have become so ruthless that we cannot leave the use of this website. The use of this website is very shame full for us.

There are several aspects in The "Face Book" that are against muslims.By using this website we are providing Income to the owner of this website. According to the Survey of New York Times Indonesia an Islamic Country is the second biggest user of this website. There are more than 24 Million users of "Face book" in Indonesia. That is very Harmful for us.

Now the Important issue is that are the entire Muslims Cannot make a website By Uniting Together? Can All the Muslims not drop the use of this website? All Muslims Should seek the answer of this Question.

It has been blocked intermittently in several countries including Pakistan, Syria, the People's Republic of China, Vietnam, Iran, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh. It has also been banned at many places of work to discourage employees from wasting time using the service.[102] Face book's privacy has also been an issue, and the safety of their user accounts has been compromised several times. Face book has settled a lawsuit regarding claims over source code and intellectual property. Face book is blocked in these countries for sometimes. But we have to search some Permanent Solution of this Disease
