Make It Hard

2011-08-21T09:52:00.000-07:00

Apparently Helmut Lang didn't get the message. I would have gladly taken his archive of past collections off his hands. Instead, he choose to pulverize 25 years of work, pigment and resin, creating what looks like paper mache birch trees molded with soup cans. Art? I guess. Waste? Absolutely.

Lang reveals his inspiration in an interview with Dazed Digital. “In February 2010, after a fire in the building where our studio in New York is located, which could have destroyed the rest of the archive, and after going for months through the pieces to see in which condition they are, I slowly became intrigued by the idea of destroying it myself and use it as raw material for my art. ‘Make It Hard’ is literally the transition from soft to solid, and there is also a sexual reference implied.”

Small Things Are Cute. Period.

2011-08-19T00:25:00.000-07:00

Holy hell, can you believe this? The adorableness that shines through this miniature collection is out of control. Opening Ceremony just launched their first ever kids clothing collection in collaboration with Hong Kong-based children’s apparel brand A for Apple. Classic Opening Ceremony silhouettes, too cool for school cuts, and the cutest little faces you could ask for. Jesus christ- who am I?

Can you resist? Let's steal them...

More or Less

2011-07-28T12:53:00.000-07:00

This collection reminds me of the finger knitting I obsessed over in 4th grade. While my repetitive pieces ended up useless floor rugs, Nanna van Blaaderen ties hers together seamlessly in this whimsical yet structured hand knit collection. Check out the stunning hair dos to boot!

I must admit, greys, blacks, browns and army greens commonly fill my closets, but these beloved brights have been nudging me in the foot since spring. Perhaps it's time to give in? Seasons here in the city are totally delayed anyways...

BTW happy belated PRIDE!

Evelesco is Back, Bitches

2011-07-03T13:48:00.000-07:00

Hello lovely people!! That's right, Evelesco is comin' back. I could ramble on about why Evelesco has been mia for so long now (has it really been over 6 months?!), but I thought it would be best to show you instead.

The new job has welcomed me with a plethora of amazing opportunities and exciting projects, the one I'm most proud of being Velvet Brigade. Velvet Brigade is a women's fashion label whose goal is to collaborate with amateur designers to produce one of a kind pieces that are all about you. Whether you're a designer waiting to steal your place in the fashion industry, a fashionista with strong opinions wanting to be heard or just a shopper who loves to support the little people, the Velvet Brigade community is the place for you. You design. You vote. Velvet Brigade produces and sells the best stuff. And lucky for you, this week launched the first round of dresses available for pre-order. Check the Shop HERE, and take a look at their blog, Behind the Seams, below.

In other news, Evelesco is back, bitches!

Please and Thank You

Zip It

Some inventions fit so perfectly into the modern world of fashion that I find myself wondering why no one has thought of them before. These Italian made pebbled leather beauties by Loeffler Randall are one of those things. Zip-off boots. Why didn't I think of that.

DIY Cut Outs

2010-12-13T00:25:00.000-08:00

Inspired by A Pair and a Spare's DIY Weekly Projects, I decided to give the cut out shirt project a try. It's a super simple project, and I have to admit, it turned out pretty awesome. I've already worn it twice!

First, I started with an oversized navy silk shirt, a ruler, sharp scissors, and a white pencil:

Before:

Next, I drew a straight line at the shoulder blades and used a hat to shape a curved line underneath:

After I cut that section out, I realized two things: first, that I should have started above the pleats on the back (to do away with those crazy folds you see below) and second, that I wanted the cut out to be larger.

So I made some small alterations, and ta-da!

Goin' Places

2010-12-01T16:03:00.000-08:00

Hello all! I have some exciting news and excuses to share:

First, I'm sorry!

for my lack of posts,

my lack of content,

my lack of creativity,

my lack of crafts,

my lack of DIY,

my lack of inspiration,

and my lack of involvement with all of you whom I love so much.

But on the brighter side, there is a method (or better yet, a rationale and story) behind this madness. I'm moving to the city! Yes, THE city, that is, San Francisco, California. I was offered a job at an interactive design studio/ marketing agency in downtown SF, and it starts in January. It's consumed my life thus far, whether in physical preparation for the move or by letting my giddy head dominate my thoughts. This is a great opportunity for me. I was born in SF and have been waiting my entire life for my chance to move back. And now it's here! And I'm grabbing it by the horns. So please excuse my absence for a while as I try to get a grasp on things. I'll make it worthwhile for everyone in the end.

A Little Street Style

2010-11-21T20:32:00.000-08:00

I couldn't resist this man with his sock garters out side of my work a few weekends back. He was just too cute not not snap a quick photo of.

Link Love

2010-11-21T19:57:00.000-08:00

Link lists aren't really my thing, but like the photo says, I'm beat. So here's a little link love to make up for my absence lately and to get you through the next few days.

Some Sacramento fashion/ bike love from my one and only.
A complete guide to the perfect paired down wardrobe; step one, two, three, and four.
Quite possibly my favorite fashion blog ever.
Great rainy weather shoe savers (and an amazing men's fashion website in general).
Some projects I'm in the midst: a book clutch and a jewelry stand.
For a good laugh.
How to perfectly poach an egg (which I constantly fail at).

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Kate Moss vs Kate Moss

2010-11-15T13:21:00.000-08:00

Anyone that claims they don't love seeing fashion icons, models, actors, etc. in the raw is straight up lying. It creates the illusion that the distance between us and them has shrunk ever so slightly, as futile and short lived as it may be. So when self service magazine came out with their 33rd edition showcasing Kate Moss raw and uncut, I was obviously chomping at the bit to get my hands on some of the photos. And with Valisere Lingerie's 2010 campaign outing itself just a few weeks before, I had some great photoshopped dirt to compare it to. So let's look at the two side by side (or top to bottom). My personnel favorite is this first photo channeling Janis Joplin. Hot.

The Style of Music

2010-11-10T00:42:00.000-08:00

Every classic iconic figure has a visual aesthetic. From musicians to models to actors, style, and having one of your own, has always been key to the survival of a name. Some obvious ones, think Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Madonna, have started fashion trends that will survive through decades and fads alike. That's a model, actress, AND a rock star all defined by a distinct fashion demeanor. This is why EveryGuard's in house design agency, Moxy Creative, along with illustrator James Alexander, created "Ensemble: The Style of Music," illustrating the Iconic Outfits from 20 Male Musicians. Music is in no way only about a song, and fashion isn't only about the clothes. And that way it will stay.

Sorry I've been a little MIA lately. As much as I'd like blogging to be my number one job (even my number two job would suffice!), it is not :(
Maybe someday.
