This gurl is vicariously livin' through her friend who's recently become a granny to a beautiful coil spring curled darlin.

It's a beginner croshayed cardy and my first attempt at an entire garment. I'm pleased as punch that it turned out. O'course, I had to embellish it a bit with a big ol' flower, yellow buttons and a little love label on the inside.

One day I'll be a granny myself, but I gotta get those two married off first!

Be Mine Birdys DIY

This gurl thought it'd be fun to make a birdy carrying a little message on a heart as a Valentine gift.

It's a great project to do with your kids.

You'll need Fimo clay in red, blue, gold, white and black--or use what you have. Form the shapes for the body, wings, beak, eyes and heart. Use a toothpick to make a hole at the top of the heart. I baked the heart first then cut a piece of wire to hang it to the birdy.

Then I wrote 'be mine' with a porcelaine paint pen. You could also use a fine tip Sharpie. I cut two paperclips to form the birdy's legs and attached them to the birdy. You don't need to make the legs if you don't want to. Pop it in the oven and bake according to the directions on the clay package.

They're cuckoo for you!

How to Make a Wooden Spool Twine Holder

This gurl has seen all sorts of these lovely wooden spool holders for twine on the internet and thought she'd make her own.

They're quick, pennies to make and are great to give to your crafty friends!

You'll need a wooden candle base and wooden basket handle, wood glue and one of these scissors (if you'd like one they cost $1.50) or find a pair of scissors that will fit in the handle's hole. The candle base costs .70 cents. The handle costs .50 cents.

Now, this is the really hard part. Put some glue on the bottom of the handle.

Attach the handle to the base and wait for it to dry.

I spray painted mine my favorite mustard color and also cut a piece of adhesive magnet and attached it to the bottom. I have a metal desk and it works great. You can also cut a piece of non-skid plastic drawer liner and glue it to the bottom so it will stay in place on your desk.

Cute huh?!

How to make a Wire Heart Finger Ring

Howdy!

This gurl thought she'd share the process of how to make a wire heart finger ring, just in case ya have a sweetie who'd like one.

You'll need wire (I used 20 gauge), round nose and cutting pliers and a glue stick or lip balm in order to shape the ring to fit your finger. You can always use your finger too! It may take you a few times to master this, so I suggest using scrap wire if you don't want to use up your red colored wire or precious metal wire.

Cut a piece of wire apprx. 5 inches.

Shape the wire on the glue stick or lip balm.

Now you have a 'U' shape.

Bend the left side with your round nose pliers just a bit above where the ring will hit the top of your finger.

Make a larger bend using your round nose pliers.

Pull the wire down for the first side of the heart and flatten it so it is on the top where it would lie on your finger.

Repeat for the other side.

Using your round nose pliers, connect the left side of the wire to the base with a small loop. You want to make sure it's tight and cut any excess wire so it won't snag on your finger or clothing.

This is the side connected to the ring portion. The ring portion is the large circle part on the top left. Repeat for the other side by pulling the wire end up to the left and connecting.

Your heart is shaped. Flatten down so it lies on top of your finger. You may have to wrangle the heart shape a bit to your liking. Clip any excess wire.

Yer Done!

Heat Bond to the rescue once again!

Use a thrifted sweater or one you already have. I cut the heart from a velvet curtain I thrifted, used my good ol' friend Heat Bond, and within minutes I had a heart sweater!

Cutify the Cuff of Your Jeans!

This gurl thinks the best part about this DIY is that there's NO SEWING INVOLVED!

Heat Bond is my friend.

I took some lace off an old comforter and used it for this project.

What you'll need:

A pair of jeans (narrower leg openings are best)

Lace (measure enough that will fit around the bottom of each cuff) usually a bit less than a yard.

Scissors

Heat Bond

Iron

Scrap paper

Turn your jeans inside out.

Measure the lace around the bottom of each jean cuff and cut it so it overlaps a bit.

Cut a piece of Heat Bond to fit the length of the lace.

Place a piece of paper on your ironing board, then your lace, then the Heat Bond over the top. The reason why you have paper on the bottom is to ensure the Heat Bond doesn't stick through your lace to the ironing board. Now, use your iron to adhere the Heat Bond to the lace. Repeat for the other cuff.

Now you're ready to iron on the lace to the bottom of the cuff.

Make sure your jeans are inside out.

Remove the paper backing from the Heat Bond.

Place the shiny side down on the jean cuff. I put mine above the hem.

Lay a piece of paper over the lace so the Heat Bond doesn't stick to your iron.

Use your iron to adhere the lace to your jean cuff. Rotate the cuff around and iron the other side. Make sure you rotate the cuff around the front too so the lace adheres.

You'll want to make sure your lace overlaps at the seam so you don't have a visible edge.

Repeat for the other cuff.

Yer done!

Put on your jeans and roll up your cuffs.

Yer cute!

The Croshay Cache

This gurl elf has turned her lil cottage into a croshay manufacturin' plant.

There are croshayed jars, hangers-on, cowls, hats, flower pins. ear warmers and hottie potholders pilin' up 'round here.

The elf in me even created a pattern for some Wooly Wristys--that's what I call 'em. I'm addicted. There were many late nights where the temptation of just throwin in the elf towel and orderin' hoody footies or ginzus crossed her mind, but she would not be deterred.

Her weekend will be spend decoratin' the mantle, puttin' up a plasticy tree, makin' coconut balls and wrappin' giftys. By Sunday, this gurl elf will be hangin' up her elf hat, sittin' back with a coconut ball or two and sippin' on a cuppa apple cider. Most likely tho, she will fall into bed under a big blanky and take a long snooze dreamin' of makin' more Wooly Wristys.

Oh Coco My Captain

This gurl grew up in Montana and would take the train to visit her Gram twice a year. Gram always greeted us with a smile and a huge hug and we'd be off to explore her massive house and play in our Uncle's old room. It was filled with all sorts of fun stuff. Old globes, cameras, National Geographic magazines and real mercury in tubes that we'd open and pour on his dresser and play with--which will prolly explain a future disease I will contract.

Gram's house was filled with kitschy kitsch and one of my most cherished was this little doggie.

She was my fave and I would seek her out every time I'd visit.

I called her Coco after my Gram's little mutt.

The thriftin' angels were lookin' out for me recently, when I found Coco's twin residin' in the glass case at my favorite little thrift store. Memories of my Gram came floodin' back and I had to snag her for myself. I emailed a picture to my mom and exclaimed 'Look what I found!' She confirmed it was the same one as she has Gram's original Coco is sittin' on a little table next to a tiny tea set in her house.

Now, it's chilly outside so I decided my little Coco needed a croshayed bonnet to keep her ears warm, for all cute little doggies need a croshayed bonnet this time of year.

She sits with me next to my computer screen as a constant reminder of all those huge hugs and big smiles I got from my Gram as a youngin'.

I purchased this pattern a few years ago- loooong before I could understand croshay terms.

Since I've been practicin' my croshay skills and have even written a few patterns myself, the nightlight went on and I finally understood how easy this pattern is.

You can whip one up in an evening.

The younger gurls on my list will certainly enjoy a chunky Snow White Scarflette- the name I've christened it- even though it's actually called 'Poison Apple.'

My dear sweet gurls shouldn't have something poisonous wrapped around their necks. No sirree!

Lookin' at apples has me hankerin' for a cuppa hot apple cider right 'bout now.

A Colette Dress

My fingers are twitchin to to be stitchin up this lovely frock. I received the pattern today and this gurl is figurin' a wrap dress is in her future. I've been ponderin' in front of my piles o' piles of vintage sheets, tryin' to decide which one to cut up first. It's a dee lema by golly. Maybe I will cut all of them up, wear a wrap dress every day of the week forever and ever and force the world to wonder if I simply threw a sheet over me-self before I left the cottage.

In other news, two Snow White scarflettes have been completed durin' my croshayin' marathon. If the sun would shine a bit, I'd be able to snap a picture for you for they are quite lovely indeed and need to be shown in all their glorious gloriousness.

I've got the shivers so a hot cup o'cider is callin my name and I must get back to my ponderin'.

Finding Fancy Nancy

When one frequents a certain favorite thrift store like I do every week, one is bound to strike up a friendship with the lovely workers there. While I was plunking down my pennies for a recent purchase, a wonderful lady named Marcia approached me and asked 'Have you ever heard of the children's book series Fancy Nancy?'

Now, my children are long outta the house and I don't have any grandchildren yet, so this particular book was not on my radar. 'No, I've never heard of Fancy Nancy' I replied.

'Oh, Fancy Nancy has red coil spring curls and wears flower headbands and ruffly dresses, just like you! It's a compliment, I assure you, and every time you walk into our little thrift store you remind me of her.' Marcia exclaimed.

This brought a huge smile to my face and a spring in my step and I skipped outta my favorite little thrift store and wondered what Fancy Nancy looked like. Certainly, these days, one can locate a picture of this little miss quite quickly and when I arrived home, up the stairs I hopped to do a fast Googly search.

Much to my surprise, Fancy Nancy does indeed resemble this gurl, somewhat, although she is much younger than I and doesn't appear to age over the years as this one does. But still, it isn't every day when a gurl discovers she has a cartoon likeness in a child's book.

So, I will hold onto that notion and giggle with the knowledge I am indeed a cartoon character. Yes, indeedy. I am.

Do you have any favorite books from your childhood? Another one I loved was Pippy Longstocking. I'll have to put it on my 'look for' thrifting list.
