Have I ever told you guys I have a big head? Not as-in big-ego, but literally, my head is really large in size. Growing up, my nickname was Tweety Bird because I had a small child body with an adult size head. I did eventually grow into my head a bit, however, it's still larger than most women. I know because I usually need to shop in the Men's Department for hats and bike helmets.

Example A: the fedora in this post is from the Men's Department at Nordstrom Rack. I'm ok with it. I once thought a big head equals a big brain. Not so much the case.

Howdy friends!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. These pictures were taken at the end of a busy day of running errands and taking care of the dogs, hence the wrinkles and (you can't see) dog hair. We went to Target, my favorite place in the world and did just a bit of personal shopping. The rest was groceries and boring household stuff.

I went to the return counter to return some not-so-flattering lipstick and the nice Target associate said, "You look really cute, where are you headed?" I replied, "To the grocery store." I think she was a little surprised by my response or was expecting something more exciting on my agenda. Because in Oakland/Berkeley (GranolaTown) you wouldn't typically wear this just to go to the grocery store. I do my fair share of granola-wear for errands, but the weather was gorgeous and spring was in the air. No matter how confident one might be, a pop of color or a bright statement necklace can brighten any day. Maybe for you it's a swipe of bright lipgloss, glitter nail polish, or a nice handbag. No matter what it is for you, I know you can all relate to what I'm talking about.

I put on this outfit because it was perfectly comfy for a bike ride across town to meet our friends for brunch. Then we had to deal with our doggies and a million other things before leaving the house, so we decided to drive to make up for lost time. I avoided helmet head, yippee!

We love Sunday or Saturday Brunch and usually walk or bike to one of the many yummy spots around our place. Brunch means you can semi-sleep in and it's a great excuse to have bloody marys or mimosas. And since we usually walk or bike, it's usually combined with a bit of a workout. Yea, Sunday Brunch is now officially a workout...in my wildest dreams.

Thanks to La Vie Petite I've been hooked on LOFT for the past 2 years. Prior to then I had never stepped foot into a store. During my first visit there the very nice sales associate explained to me that every season they design clothing so that everything in the store goes with everything in the store. So hypothetically, you could go through picking pieces with your eyes closed and end up looking ok. Sounds so easy, right?
Well, I'm not so trusting in their concept, but I love going to LOFT for basics and their sales are to-die-for. These are the items I picked up during their 50% of select styles + 40% sale items. I don't believe I've ever paid full price for anything there, which is really hard to do since everything goes on sale.

I would suggest signing up for their emails as that's how I stay up to date on their sales.

Hi Friends!
Have you ever heard of Uniqlo? I hadn't either until last weekend. One of our best friends got married and a ton of our college friends came into town. They were going a little nuts over this store call Uniqlo.
The best way to describe it is a Japanese version of H&M. Mid-quality basics at a great price. I picked up some amazing lightweight layering tanks form their "Airism" line and some of these elastic pants. Do you all remember the tights from the late 80's with the stirrups? Well, these are the adult version without the stirrups and I love them.
This is what I wore on this casual spring day to go get my hair done.

Crossbody Bag Search and Reveal

Hi Friends!

Long time no post. I can only blame it on our recent move and the inability to find anything. Once I find my tripod, there will be some new outfit posts. Whenever that is...

I've been on the search for a smaller crossbody bag for awhile now. Initially, I was interested in the LV Saumur 30, but wasn't too fond of getting another monogram print crossbody bag (the Speedy B is too similar). It is a very functional and practical bag, and maybe if it ever comes out in Damier Ebene I will reconsider.

The Chanel Half Moon WOC seems like the perfect bag. I was trying to stay away from black and almost all the pre-owned options I found within my budget were black. So I eventually just gave up after a year or so. I could have bought a metallic one in new condition, but the frugal gal in me just couldn't pull the trigger.

So I pretty much gave up and would infrequently pop into my favorite pre-owned sites to browse around. Also, because of the few shopping diets I took this year, my shopping habits had changed and I became overly critical of the quality and value of luxury goods. In addition, we bought our first home and the expenses associated with that definitely helped curb my spending for a few months. Plus it's so fun decorating and improving your first home.

Sleepy eyed this morning, I was browsing the usual morning emails and saw this New Arrival from Malleries.

I clicked and it was love at first sight. I wouldn't call it an impulse purchase, more a "I know what I've been looking for forever and here it finally is" purchase.

So here's the irresistible red lady....a (vintage?) Chanel Mini Classic Flap in lambskin leather from Garo. I like its rectangular rectangular shape vs. the square shape of more recent minis. Soon (when I find the tripod) I will post some outfit pics with this bag.

Some of the things I admire about my mom include her free spirit, her ability to really not sweat the small stuff and continual optimism through the toughest times. She was always happy...from the inside out. Her laugh was contagious and she was always glowing with joy. Her childlike spirit was endearing and captured the hearts of all her closest friends. All 10,000+ of them because she had the talent of making friends with anyone and everyone.
I miss her. A lot.
And because we lost her recently to Esophageal Cancer, I will utilize all channels to spread the word regarding Esophageal Cancer.

As tough as these past few months have been, I find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and has escaped her sickened body. She didn't smoke, was an occasional drinker, and was taken from us way too early at the age of 57. Please help spread the word-- it could save a life.

Do you ever have one of those days when you get dressed for one thing, but end up doing another? For instance I got dressed this morning with the intention of going to a BBQ with Mr. Granola. Before we know it, we've knocked out 4 errands and ended up at our storage unit cleaning it out and schlepping stuff to the donation center (our front curb at home).
So what was supposed to an outfit for BBQ ended up being a moving outfit. How perfect is that? Not so much, but like I always say, life happens and then I blog about it. Because honestly, who wants to waste valuable time going home to change? Not I.

DIY Crumb Catcher w/ H&M Scarf

Business Comfort w/ J.Crew

There are some rules for a traveling sales associate. Be on time and wear business comfort. It's a dress code I've come up with for my line of work where I spend countless hours in the car and/or plane. Living in California has it's perks in the business world-- I can get away most days without wearing a suit when visiting customers, which really broadens my dress code options.
Made of wool, this J.Crew skirt is called a "mini" but I intentionally bought it a size too big and got the hem taken out 2 inches to take advantage of the extra 40% off sale. For work I really don't accessorize. It's a very conservative industry and the less flash the better. At most I might wear a bracelet and/or earrings. How much do you accessorize for work?

I wanted to share my latest obsession with Indie Nail Polishes. Indie polish makers are those who "franken" (mix existing polishes) or create their own polishes from scratch. There are some real talented gals out there. I say gals because all the indie polish makers I have come across have been female. After experimenting with making my own indie polish at home, I quickly realized it was a complete fail and I should leave the frakening to the experts.

I started researching where to purchase Lynderella polishes only to find out they are fetching over $100 a bottle on eBay. I was shocked to see a few bottles sell between $600-$800! (There are insane people out there, apparently!) Upon further research, I got sucked into what can only be dubbed as the soap opera of the indie polish world. (Doesn't it sound so dramatic? And aren't you intrigued?) If you have time to waste like I did, this and this was cause for some entertainment.
Being a big manicure DIY'er, I quickly became a fan of Indie Polishes and just as quickly lost my interest in Lynnderella when she basically stated she was too cool to be labeled "indie." Sorry girlfriend, I know you're laughing to the bank, but you ain't no Loreal or OPI.
Here are some of the favorites I have been eyeing. Some of which I will be buying as a treat from Mr. Granola, because quitting shopping cold turkey can be so hard and he appreciates my 22 days of effort so far! I'm 1/3 of the way there and hope to keep going strong.

Effort. Yes, it took A LOT of it to get ready for our friends' wedding yesterday. Some bloggers look amazing with little to no effort. At least they do a good job pulling it off. I was not born that lucky. Why does everything seem harder when it's hot in the house? From wiping sweat off my face so I can put foundation on, to wishing I had naturally voluminous hair to avoid use of the hair dryer, every task becomes 10x harder and falsie lashes just so happen to hate me at the same time. My friend introduced me to The Real Real a little over 2 months ago when I mentioned being a fan of pre-loved luxury goods. If you can imagine a site like Malleries in a flash sale format like Rue La La...that's pretty much what The Real Real is. They have daily sales of only pre-owned/new luxury clothing and accessories. They gather many items from estate sales and celebrities.
The popular items go pretty quickly, so I was surprised to see this Burberry Hobo about 4 hours into the sale. I closely read the description and reviewed the pictures they provided. The flaws I could live with. The price was a steal. So I decided to make my 1st purchase from The Real Real.
PROS:- Great prices. I haven't done any direct comparisons, but they seem lower than Malleries, Bella Bag, Portero, etc.- Most of the items I've seen have been in Excellent to Near New condition.- Constant rotations of luxury brands.- Shipment arrived overnight. Seems the origin is in SF, which is huge plus!- Descriptions and photos are accurate.- New coupon codes every month for $25 off.
CONS:- My bag was not thoroughly cleaned. I went through about 4 facial wipes to "refresh" the bag.- Many unsold items are repeatedly listed. Which is OK, but I'd rather see new merchandise.
Bottom line, The Real Real is a nice change from the usual pre-owned shopping sites. The prices are great, delivery is prompt, descriptions are accurate, and they have coupon codes! I'm a fan and give The Real Real a thumbs up!

DIY Nude Blingy Manicure With OPI, Martha Stewart Glitter and Gelish

Hi Friends!
It's been awhile since I posted a DIY nail tutorial. Here is a step-by-step tutorial of this Nude Silver Bling mani.

All products are linked within the tutorial below:

1. Give yourself or get a standard manicure.

2. Paint nails with 1 coat of your desired nail color. Here, I used OPI Did You 'Ear Me Van Gogh.

3. Right after your 2nd coat of nail polish (on each nail), dip or apply with a sponge the silver Martha Stewart Leaf Glitter.

4. Use a wood stick to press the edges of the foil down. They have a tendency to flip up, which will be a cause for annoyance later.

5. Then sprinkle the silver glitter, emphasizing most of your coverage on the tips.

6. Use blowdryer to dry and blow away loose glitter.

7. Apply 2 coats of your favorite top coat. I used Gelish Top It Off with a UV Lamp for my top coat.

I'm on day 4 and the manicure is still going strong. I utilize Gelish top coat all the time with regular nail polish. The trick is to ensure the polish is completely dry. If you can, let it dry overnight. If Gelish is applied to paint that isn't dry, you will find a soft ripply texture, as opposed to the hardened high shine finish.

Real life happens. I wore this all day running errands, cleaning the house, and eating blueberry yogurt which I managed to get all over my tank top. I used a little creative posing to disguise it, but I wasn't about to change just because I'm a slob.
As you may know, I'm on a 60 day shopping diet and which has been manageable so far. Luckily I'll be spending the next 5 days on a business trip in Miami where I won't have much time to even think about shopping. Instead of shopping for myself I've been shopping for Mr. Granola which thinks new clothes are a waste of space and money. However, I think it's a great way to phase out his not-so-current wardrobe. Lucky him!

DIY Colorful MacBook Washi Tape Keyboard Tutorial

Hi friends!

Mr. Granola recently got me the new MacBook Air so I could blog anywhere and be one of the cool kids with a Mac. Transitioning from a PC, it took me awhile to get acquainted, but like they say, "Once you go Mac, you don't go back!"

Here's a step by step tutorial of this and this keyboard I've been swooning over for months:

1) Purchase various colors of washi tape. I had no idea what washi tape even was until I looked into this DIY project. It's basically thin (usually sheer) paper masking tape from Japan. They come in all kinds of fun colors, prints, and even different widths. I purchased mini rolls from Etsy; a) because of budget and b) because that's just a whole lotta tape!

2) The width of most of the wash tape fits exactly in width to the keyboard keys. I did not use a ruler at all. I literally, eyeballed the tape and cut it into squares. There is a lot of tape to practice on and maybe you're more of a precise DIY'er, but for me, I literally just winged it!

3) Like I said, without doing any measurements, you can pretty much guestimate the length needed. Checking out the close up pic below, you can definitely see some variation from key to key.

4) To prevent lifting, I purchased this amazing keyboard cover from Amazon. I've tried many silicone keyboard covers for various laptops, but hands down this is the best cover for this project.

5) Once the keyboard cover is set, you are GOOD TO GO! And that's pretty much it!

I have a backlit keyboard with black keys and I think the tape looks fine. During the day, you may need to double check your icons if you don't have every single key memorized. As for me, it's probably just because I'm new to Mac and will eventually get better acquainted with the keyboard shortcuts.

Of course this project would work perfect for white keys too.

Shopping Diet: Day 4 of 60

As I write this I'm visualizing all my overflowing drawers, cabinets, and storage space full of stuff. Ranging from hardly used make-up, skincare, and haircare to candles, makeup, shoes, stationary, gadgets, leggings, and list goes on and on and on. The clutter just never ends and I'm totally overwhelmed.
There's a corner of my living room dedicated to things I need to return from Rue La La, Hautelook, Amazon and Ideeli (as seen above). It literally looks like a stack of trash. Actually, Mr. Granola recently put an empty milk carton on top of my "return stack" thinking it was the recycling pile. How sad. At least $200 worth of merchandise is mistaken for garbage.
I've decided to chronicle my 60 day shopping diet, here on my blog, with my readers.
As a child, I would have an underlying joy and sense of happiness that would last for days after my parents took me to Sanrio or Mervyn's-- the usual places a 6 year old in the 80's would shop. Thinking back, it's probably my first experience of that "shopping high," the same feeling I get to this day when I click "buy" or rip open a box that has arrived at my door-- most of the time where I can't even recall its contents.
Before I turned 30, I accomplished my goal of paying off the debt. A goal I cannot take credit for, because as I realized, I was overjoyed by the act of shopping. Mr. Granola really helped manage my money and forever grateful I've learned to spend only "cash." Over the past year I've learned many important shopping lessons and really stuck by them. Except what do you do when "everything" goes with 5 pieces in your closet, or when "everything" is on discount?
Although I've given myself an allowance each month, I've managed to fall for the hype of the YouTube beauty gurus "Monthly Favorites," latest season must haves, newest subscription site, and once-a-year-deals I can't live without. I can honestly say I don't need another darn thing.
So as we've all heard-- first step is admitting you have a problem. Although I'll have some recent online purchases trickle in, I have officially started my shopping diet on July 1st!

Hope (mostly) everyone is enjoying their day off work! Most of my colleagues took Thurs-Friday off for a 5 day weekend. Working at home I miss these genius ideas of theirs. Why the heck did I not get the memo?
Do you always see Arthur S. Levine for Tahari on sample sale sites such as Rue La La and Ideeli? I'm always weary of buying suits online, however, kept having the temptation to buy some summer work attire such as sheath dresses. Well, I'm glad I did because I've had great luck with the fit and love the quality of the pieces. If you're on the fence regarding Arthur S. Levine for Tahari, I say pull the trigger when it's not final sale and give it a try.

Here's the official post to these Quick Pics of the Day-- which I wore to the airport and was totally comfortable. I don't know if I've just adjusted since moving from San Diego, but I'm actually feeling warm on most days here. My first winter in the Bay was horrible. I had to buy tons of socks, a Slanket (the original Snuggie) and Uggs. I swear I have never felt so cold and wet in my entire life. So maybe I've officially transitioned. Whatever it is, I like it!
I got this belt during J.Crew Factory's last extra 30% off sale. I was a little disappointed that it's not genuine leather, but I love the color and ostrich print.
