32-bit and 64-bit are computer architectures, which specify the memory and processing ability of the system. A processor with 32-bit memory addresses can directly access 4 GB memory whereas, the 64-bit processor can access double that amount of data or more. You can imagine the traffic capacity on a 32 lane highway and a 64 lane highway as a simple analogy to understand the difference.

Windows 7 is the latest version of windows operating system, famous for its user-friendly interface. Windows 7 is launched by Microsoft for personal computers, lab tops and other systems which we use in offices and homes. Nowadays, we are hearing a debate regarding 32-bit and 64-bit computer architectures. 32-bit and 64-bit are computer architectures, which specify the memory and processing ability of the system. Old systems are compatible with 32 bit only, whereas new processors support both. They act like buses inside the computer and transfer information or data from one part to other; one bus in 32 bit wide and other is 64 bit wide. The difference in the width leads to modification in applications of the system.

32 bit

In 32 bit computer architecture, integers, memory addresses or other, data units are at the most 32 bits wide. The term 32 bit is also used for a class of computers in which 32 bit processor was installed. 32 bit processor can directly access 4GB memory. Moreover, a 32 bit file format is a binary format. Many software and programs are compatible with this format as it was the most widely used architecture is past decade.

64 bit

The modern form of computer architecture is 64 bit. In which, the width of data or memory address is 64 bit. This architecture was used for some specific purposes in the past but now it is available for the use of general public. Processing of data is much faster in this system, as compared to older versions. Having a 64 bit Windows doesn’t mean that all your programs or applications will run faster, automatically, rather only those programs will work on faster pace which are optimized with 64 bit. Nowadays, we are having games and other programs which have enhanced features and can operate on 64 bit.

Differences and similarities

Both 32 bit and 64 bit have the same function is the computer, i.e. processing of data, but speed differs. 32 bit can access 4 GB memory but 64 bit has access to 8 GB and even 16 GB. All device drivers in 64 bit system are digitally signed, which makes it safer, when we compare it with 32 bit, where we have to face random crashes. 64 bit does not work fast for every application, for an ordinary home use 32 bit or 64 bit, does not make any difference, but if you have to use graphics and related applications like Photoshop and video editing, 64 bit is a better choice. In financial terms, 32 bit is economical and 64 bit, being the latest technology, is expansive. You cannot run all programs on 64 bit, although most of the older versions are upgraded from 32 bit to 64 bit, but yet majority of them is compatible with 32 bit.

Summary

32 bit and 64 bit serves the same purpose in your operating system, but they are different from each other. 32 bit, being the older one, supports a large number of applications and programs, whereas 64 bit is the new technology which processes the data at a much faster pace. For graphical applications, 64 bit is a good choice, where as it does not make any difference to a common user.

HOW TO REMOVE VIRUS IN PEN DRIVE

One of the ways by which a virus can infect your PC is through USB/Pen drives. Common viruses such as ’Ravmon’ , ‘New Folder.exe’, ‘Orkut is banned’ etc are spreading through USB drives. Most anti virus programs are unable to detect them and even if they do, in most cases they are unable to delete the file, only quarantine it. Here are the things which you can do if you want to remove such viruses from your USB drives

Whenever you plug a USB drive in your system, a window will appear similar to the one shown below

Don’t click on Ok , just choose ‘Cancel’. Open the Command Prompt by typing ‘cmd‘ in the run box. In the command prompt type the drive letter: and press enter . Now type dir /w/a and press enter.

This will display a list of the files in the pen drive. Check whether the following files are there or not

Autorun.inf
Ravmon.exe
New Folder.exe
svchost.exe
Heap41a
or any other exe file which may be suspicious.

If any of the above files are there, then probably the USB drive is infected. In command prompt type attrib -r -a -s -h *.* and press enter. This will remove the Read Only, Archive, System and hidden file attribute from all the files. Now just delete the files using the command del filename. example del Ravmon.exe. Delete all the files that are suspicious. To be on a safer side, just scan the USB drive with an anti virus program to check whether it is free of virus or not. Now remove the drive and plug it again. In most of the cases, the real culprit turns out to be the “Autorun.inf” file which mostly gets executed when someone clicks Ok in the dialog window which appears above. Types of RAM

The following are some common types of RAM:

SRAM: Static random access memory uses multiple transistors, typically four to six, for each memory cell but doesn't have a capacitor in each cell. It is used primarily for cache.
DRAM: Dynamic random access memory has memory cells with a paired transistor andcapacitor requiring constant refreshing.
FPM DRAM: Fast page mode dynamic random access memory was the original form of DRAM. It waits through the entire process of locating a bit of data by column and row and then reading the bit before it starts on the next bit. Maximum transfer rate to L2 cache is approximately 176 MBps.
EDO DRAM: Extended data-out dynamic random access memory does not wait for all of the processing of the first bit before continuing to the next one. As soon as the address of the first bit is located, EDO DRAM begins looking for the next bit. It is about five percent faster than FPM. Maximum transfer rate to L2 cache is approximately 264 MBps.
SDRAM: Synchronous dynamic random access memory takes advantage of the burst mode concept to greatly improve performance. It does this by staying on the row containing the requested bit and moving rapidly through the columns, reading each bit as it goes. The idea is that most of the time the data needed by the CPU will be in sequence. SDRAM is about five percent faster than EDO RAM and is the most common form in desktops today. Maximum transfer rate to L2 cache is approximately 528 MBps.
DDR SDRAM: Double data rate synchronous dynamic RAM is just like SDRAM except that is has higher bandwidth, meaning greater speed. Maximum transfer rate to L2 cache is approximately 1,064 MBps (for DDR SDRAM 133 MHZ).
RDRAM: Rambus dynamic random access memory is a radical departure from the previous DRAM architecture. Designed by Rambus, RDRAM uses a Rambus in-line memory module (RIMM), which is similar in size and pin configuration to a standard DIMM. What makes RDRAM so different is its use of a special high-speed data bus called the Rambus channel. RDRAM memory chips work in parallel to achieve a data rate of 800 MHz, or 1,600 MBps. Since they operate at such high speeds, they generate much more heat than other types of chips. To help dissipate the excess heat Rambus chips are fitted with a heat spreader, which looks like a long thin wafer. Just like there are smaller versions of DIMMs, there are also SO-RIMMs, designed for notebook computers.
Credit Card Memory: Credit card memory is a proprietary self-contained DRAM memory module that plugs into a special slot for use in notebook computers.
PCMCIA Memory Card: Another self-contained DRAM module for notebooks, cards of this type are not proprietary and should work with any notebook computer whose system bus matches the memory card's configuration.
CMOS RAM: CMOS RAM is a term for the small amount of memory used by your computer and some other devices to remember things like hard disk settings -- see Why does my computer need a battery? for details. This memory uses a small battery to provide it with the power it needs to maintain the memory contents.
VRAM: VideoRAM, also known as multiport dynamic random access memory(MPDRAM), is a type of RAM used specifically for video adapters or 3-D accelerators. Make Firefox Load and Browse Faster!!!

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true".
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true".
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will
make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.

Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".

This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a brodband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

How to disable Dr. Watson for Windows

To disable Dr. Watson

1.	Click Start, click Run, type regedit.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.	Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug NOTE: Steps three and four are optional, but they necessary if you want to restore the default use of Dr. Watson.
3.	Click the AeDebug key, and then click Export Registry File on the Registry menu.
4.	Enter a name and location for the saved registry file, and then click Save.
5.	Delete the AeDebug key.

Registry entries for debugger programs are located in the AeDebug key in Windows. The Dr. Watson program is installed by default in Windows, and is configured to run when an application error occurs (with a data value of 1 for the Auto value). The default values are:

Value Name = Auto
Type = String (REG_SZ)
Data Value = 1 or 0. (Default is 1)

Value Name = Debugger
Type = String (REG_SZ)
Data Value = drwtsn32 -p %ld -e %ld -g

NOTE: This data value (drwtsn32 -p %ld -e %ld -g) is specific to Dr. Watson. Alternative debuggers will have their own values and parameters.

To enable Dr. Watson

1.	At a command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER: drwtsn32 -i
2.	Double-click the .reg file you created in steps three and four above.

Not able to open drives on hard disk by double click

Trouble:

Sometimes it happens in windows XP that you are not able to open drives on your hard disk. When you double clicking on the drives icons or rightclick on the drive>>explore in Mycomputer ,the drive does not open.

This problem is generally caused by most of the viruses which infect windows XP system. They block or restrict your access to any of the drives.

But don’t worry this is not a bigtrouble it can be fixed easily.

Fix:

Normally when a virus infects a windows system which causes a drive opening problem, it automatically creates a file named autorun.inf in the root directory of each drive.

This autorun.inf file is a read only ,hidden and a system file and the folder option is also disabled by the virus. This is deliberately done by the virus in order to protect itself. autorun.inf initiates all the activities that the virus performs when you try to open any drive.

You have to just delete this file and restart your system to correct this problem.

Follow the set of commands below to show and delete the autorun.inf

1. Open Start>>Run and type cmd and press enter. This will open a command prompt window. On this command prompt window type the following steps.

2. type cd\

3. type attrib -r -h -s autorun.inf

4. type del autorun.inf

5. now type d: and press enter for d: drive partition. Now repeat steps 3 and 4. Similarly repeat step 5 for all your hard disk partition.

Restart your system and your trouble will be fixed.
