Channel Guy Traders Nails Breakout of /ES S&P 500 Futures

Hello Traders,

Hope everybody is enjoying there Saturday morning thus far. I am getting ready to step out to the office and do the weekend video and run some errands. Had to defrag my main system so I left it on all night. Now time to go check in on my baby that allows me to make my daily cash. Update of my CPU coming soon by the way. In any case, wanted to point out the breakout that BSI Traders nailed on the /ES and have the video to show that we called it before it happened to help other traders and investors. You can check my stocktwits( AskChrisHeTrade) for those videos or check post below. We are are on the verge of another market leg higher unless something bad comes out of the EURO. The technical aspect of the move higher is there and now if the fundamentals and earnings of companies align, we can see a nice price action move higher where an idiot can throw a dart at a board of symbols, by that same exact symbol and make money( Laugh out Loud). I am expecting a pullback to around the 1290 area to back test the range breakout. I will keep you posted when we start getting clues and you can come into my trading room TheTradersRoom.Com/ password:Remote to make sure you are on the right side of the trade.

We are seeing a lot of stocks move higher and have nice breakouts that hold up well. I called out $WLT at $63 bucks a a share on my twitter stream( Askchrishetrade) and sold it at my $65 target only to see it go up another dollar and change. Good execution and good trade. Whole point of me bringing that up was because stocks are actually going above some intraday targets. So we do have some optimism coming back into the market which of course is warranted by the charts, but we will have that one day where everybody is hype on buying and mother markets shuts them up with a nice pull back day by surprise. As I highlighted in my stocktwits video below( Follow me @ Askchrishetrade on stocktwits), we had the /ES trading in one of my proprietary channels. We consolidated in that range for about 4 days or so. We now have broken the consolidation range overnight going into this mornings session and now we are picking up a signal to buy dips as long as the /ES is above 1295-1294.50. We could have a gap and go and I will be able to see that once we get closer to the open. In the meantime, look at the chart I have posted below as an update from my video. A lot of opportunities will be in the markets today ? Are you prepared as much as we are. BSI Traders will be ready because I am.

EUR/USD Channel Analysis

EUR/USD is a chart that should be heavily watched along side the /DX Dollar Futures. This chart is showing us a possible momentum shift about to happen in the EUR/USD to the downside, which is what I am expecting. If it breaks to the upside over Fridays highs, it would be real bullish in my opinion and signal a short term bottom. Only thing holding this from the downside trendline wise is the black downward channel. Keep an eye on this here going into the new week of trading.

Weekly Sector Performance Chart for Ending Week 1/13/2012

This week was filled with some decent trading action. Most of the action is being found in individual stocks and sectors, and not in the indices. The ranges in the indices have not been large and volatility has dried up a bit. Volume was lackluster all week, until Fridays poor economic data and rumors of a downgrade in some Euro Zone nations in the morning session data gave us a kick start. S&P did however downgrade 9 Euro Zone nations, but it happened after the markets were closed. Many believe that this has already been priced into the market, so going forward the short term market direction most likely will be dictated by the earnings reports. With earnings season just getting started we should expect volume to pick up after this holiday weekend and volatility also.

Looking at the sector rotation chart for the week, we can see that the energy stocks took a hit. The chart of the $USO was pretty extended and a lot of the price action was driven up on the news regarding tensions in Iran. From a technical perspective though $USO was extended and was due for a pullback. Material stocks, financial stocks, and industrial stocks benefited the most this week as they saw positive gains across the board. One sector that is going off on a lot of peoples radars is the agriculture sector. We will be focusing on this sector next week as they look to be warming up more. Solar stocks got a nice pop last week along with stocks that were underperforming and now are getting short squeezed from the shorts that have overextended there stay.

Something Is Up With This Market Of Ours

So the markets had another up day with a buy the dip scenario and a slow grind tape move higher. I for one luckily am not fighting the tape and that has saved me from taking draw downs on my account in this stock pickers market. Its becoming more of a market where at the end of the day your PnL is going to depend on whether you were in the right stocks. I for one am a good stock picker and if you come to ( TheTradersRoom.Com/ password: Remote) you can find out for yourself. On the other hand, you have those people that have been trying to play the individual market that are getting chopped because the slow tape is causing them to trade and not let trades pan out and you have those that are trying to short the market. I do think this market wants to go higher, but there is a reason why volume is light and stocks are having trouble breaking out with momentum. REAL MOMENTUM. The chart that I have posted below can give you a good picture of the risk to reward of buying at these levels. Some stocks are holding up and some are not. The index's are trading like garbage and stocks that are garbage are coming off the bottom. The more I think about it, it seems like they are trying to drive in the participants in the junk names just to provide some cash flow trades, but then when its time to go down those will go down fast. We will see !!

Couple things that I noticed from the market today was that the dollar was selling off early a.m. and the market did not trade higher at the open when the dollar was weak. We did however trade lower once the dollar futures reversed back lower at around 10:45, hence the markets and mostly all stocks reversing around that time. Crude oil also had some heavy selling out of nowhere come in around 1 pm and I'm not sure if it was news related. Silver and gold are in there own world and I try to play those sectors around key inflection points. They are in a no trade zone for me and that's why I haven't messed with them lately. I did catch the bottom on the $ZSL trade on the day it ripped over a point. In any case, look at the chart below and ask yourself will you be heavily invested in the market right now or would you add to your portfolio with the current spot we are trading at ? I wouldn't , but that doesn't mean I won't trade stocks that are moving right now..

What is the VIX Chart telling us ?

The fix has broken down and has held below its multi month range. We are below 30 and have been drifting much lower, however we have a falling bullish wedge pattern in play. Unless we break the bottom channel line that allows us to form the wedge, then we have to be careful with volatility here. We could get a spike in volatility telling us to get ready for larger price moves in the market and possible an uptick in indecision, which in my opinion translates to fear. Keep an eye on this and lets watch this $VIX chart closely. Markets are slightly down from yesterday this morning, but are still holding say in the upper 50% range of yesterdays action.

Couple Trade Ideas for 01/10/2011

Just a couple stocks on my watchlist that I will be watching tomorrow. Everything will depend on how the market opens and holds. If the energy sector is strong in the a.m. off the possible dollar weakness I will be looking for energy stocks that have been acting well while the dollar was rising or should I say ones that have more constructive charts to work off of. Also if we see some follow through tomorrow on the $SMH strength I will be watching the nice semi stock charts such as $KLAC and $SNDK. If your looking for a MOMO stock tomorrow watch $GMCR. Alright guys calling it a night. I plan on being more active this year on the blog as far as charts and analysis goes. I have been slacking on the videos for the start of the new year as I have been busy on other things. Is it time for Rack City on the Index's(SPY, IWM , SMH)

Well earnings season has officially started and you would have expected us to see some decent action in the market today, but yet had a quiet day. The $SPY had a tight range day and the markets gave some different signals. Today we saw the QQQ's weak and the SPY and IWM holding up better. If we can get the IWM to start showing some relative strength, then that might just be the clue that we are ready to push higher. If you have been tracking the index's via the ETF's which I do most of the time, you would have noticed that the IWM has been showing relative weakness to the QQQ's and the SPY so since I saw that change a bit today I think we may be ready to make a move. The U.S Dollar index has been in an uptrending channel for the past 4 days and so, which it broke down out of early Monday morning. We remain below the channel on the /DX Dollar futures chart and unless we get back inside the channel you would have to be a bit bearish to neutral on the dollar. This means that we can see equities push higher and some of the risky commodity assets get a bounce. Any companies that have been beaten down from a strong dollar lately, most likely will get some sort of oversold bounce as most of them are oversold.

In any case, the level to watch on the /ES is 1282.25. This is the spike high that we had from the jobs report on Friday. Holding above this high would definitely bring more bullishness in the market. The level to watch on the $SPY is 128.38 which is the gap up high from the start of the year.Like I said I will be watching the Russell 2000 index mini futures overnight to see if we can hold above 753 and will be watching the $IWM to see if we can trade over 75.38 and 76. I am not focused on the QQQ's right now, but I am focused on the $SMH. Semis showed decent strength today and I am looking to see if we can get some follow through on these. We have a lot of momo names popping out such as $NFLX and $GMCR bottom feed trades, but also have to be careful for some fake breakouts which I have seen a couple of them today.

If there is anything that I can say to get you prepared for tomorrow it will be to watch the $IWM to see if it can show early strength and leadership in the a.m. and to watch for the /ES triggering above the Jobs report high to signal for a move higher. We do have some earnings that came out today after the bell, but nothing that I will be focused on. I will be back with some charts later, until then we shall meet again.

Couple MoMo Trade Ideas for 01/09/2011

Just wanted to post a couple of charts that I had on watch. Some reason I have too much on my mind and cannot fall asleep.So I figure I do some blog work and hopefully that will get me tired where my brain just gives up and stops thinking, so here goes some MOMO stocks.

Chart Review for Today's Ending Session 01/03/2012

Hello Traders,

Below are charts with explanations inside of them so please be aware that you have to click on the chart to expand it and read the details that I have placed inside of them.Already, so lets talk about today's session!! The market was welcomed with a huge gap up and as a momentum trader I hate huge gap ups because I would rather them open the market flat and run it up 200 plus points on the open and then sell it like they did this dog mess today. Today we were greeted with some gap up and fades. The $SMH were not showing strength today as they got hit today after the gap up( Take a look at $ALTR and $SNDK if you don't believe me). Also the QQQ's had trouble breaking higher and so did the SPY. Don't get me wrong today's action was great because we finally got outside of those triangles, but the action was still garbage. I would have been more convinced we were going higher if we would have held most of today's gains from the gap up and then moved higher. We did see some pockets of strength though in $AMZN, $GOOG, $WMT,$BIDU and some other key stocks.

Crude oil futures were setup very well in the a.m. for a move higher and I alerted the traders inside the office and in my trading room ( TheTradersRoom.Com/ password:Remote) that they could buy $ERX or $UCO on the open and make cash. Some of them very well did that and made easy money in the first hour. Commodities showed excellent strength this a.m and emerging markets perked up well. Banks were very strong this a.m. as the $BKX banking index had a nice pop and go on the open. I would like to see this sector follow through to give me more conviction that the market wants to go higher. Remember when the market is getting dragged down by a garbage sector whether it be intraday or over a period of time, you want to see that sector get better if you expect to see the market go higher. You can look at today for example and see that the $IWM aka Russell was bringing the market down from the gap up today as they showed weakness before all the other indices. Once the Russell started getting stronger after the selling the market started perking up a bit and that's the concept I'm trying to get through your head if you don't know that already. The SPY and QQQ traded above the open for most of the day while the IWM did not.

In any case, I will be looking for more clues in the market tomorrow and will gauge it on how futures are able to hold up overnight and how we are positioned going into the open. Until then enjoy the charts before and look forward for more great analysis coming your way. This is the year and you have to be in it to win it. Remember SCARED money, DON'T MAKE money !!

Hello Traders,

Well before I get into this post lets start off by saying Happy New Years !! It has been a long year for all of us and I can guarantee you that if you were not able to adjust to the volatility we had this year then you better prepare quick, for 2012 will be full of action as the European madness carries on and another year where money has to be put to work somewhere. This year is also a year that I must reflect on myself and see how I am going to do better this year than I did last year in 2011.

Well first I left my job at Franklin Templeton in July as a Corporate Actions Analyst to come and trade at my friends prop firm BSI in Miami. Frankly, I actually turned down an interview to trade on there trade desk because I wanted to go off and do my own thing. I have always been a person of entrepreneurial spirit and I am very self learning so moving through and actually leaving taught me a lot of things. I was able to meet new traders at the firm that have developed some skills that I feel that I need to get better at to advance to the next level up in the trading ladder. I was also able to see how the markets had changed from my time off as a trader and now have been able to adapt so that I can make profits going forward.

So to give you guys a run down of my goals for 2012 I figure I put a list together to give you all an idea of what I have going on.

Weekly Sector Performance Update Chart

Hello Traders,

Hope you all enjoyed your time off as many of you are still doing so. I myself however, will be back in the markets trading tomorrow and trying to capitalize on some type of market movement. With the good 3 day run or so that we had many people are expecting a pullback. The Dow Jones is looking very bullish compared to other indices right now, so if we were to move higher you may want to take a look at some stocks in that index for some upside. If we get some selling you may want to look at stocks in the Nasdaq or the QQQ's as they have been showing relative weakness compared to the other indices.

Now I wanted to post up a quick chart of the sectors that moved in last weeks holiday light volume float up. We can see the financial sector led the way along with the energy sector. Technology and consumer staples were the weakest sectors. Use this as a road map to find some trade ideas based on how we open. If we are weak tomorrow look at some weak tech stocks and if we have a bullish setup tomorrow you should focus on the energy sector or financial sector. Some names are showing some intraday momo with some buyers stepping in. One in particular is $SINA, which is setting up for a bullish move on the charts if it gets some help from the market. As you rest tonight visualize yourself making some good trades tomorrow and capitalizing on these wonderful markets we have access to. Cheers !
