Shop This: Cut on Your Bias

We can't all be gifted designers like New York-based menswear designer Carlos Campos, but Cut on Your Bias invites us to give design a go anyway - so kind!

Crowdsourcing meets e-commerce at the newly launched site, created by former designer and Harvard/Parsons grad Louis Monoyudis. Cut on Your Bias will feature a rotating series of leading designers and each week, the community will be tasked with choosing design elements that range from silhouette to color. Then, the votes are tallied and the collection will go into limited production, with just 15 to 20 pieces going on sale at Cut on Your Bias a few weeks later.

Wardrobe Workhorse: The Ankle Boot

I’ve long been a woman of extremes when it comes to footwear. Give me a flat or a sky high heel but nothing in between, a knee high boot or else. An ankle boot merely cuts off my short, stubby little legs off visually, I used to tell myself. Those were lies, however, and this past Fall/Winter, I’ve realized the error of my ways and embraced the ankle boot in a way you can’t imagine. The essentials:

A relaxed suede bootie with a manageable heel: Isabel Marant does it best (but doesn’t she always), but if the price tag is prohibitive, try a more affordable iteration from Steve Madden or Aldo.
The f*ck me -no, wait, f*ck YOU - bootie: Dress it up or wear it with nothing at all, it’s at its best in black leather with a pointed toe and a high stiletto heel.
The peep-toe: I know, I know. A peep-toe bootie (a la the INC jam seen above) is as bad, in theory, as a short sleeve sweater. Yet, for some reason, particularly in transitional Fall and Spring weather, I’ve never had a more versatile shoe. The peep-toe bootie answers the perennial question of what to wear for a night out when temps are in the 50’s or 60’s and a strappier shoe simply won’t do. Give it a try, and you may just be won over.

Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar continues to KILL it, when it comes to both oh, designing jewelry I desperately want to wear, and also choosing THE most amazing, iconic, crazy faces for his campaign and lookbook visuals. Following in the memorable footsteps of actress Joan Collins, Absolutely Fabulous characters Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone.

"I've watched every single episode at least 50 times," Bittar told Vogue UK, "so I was excited to meet and get to work with them. We had so much fun on set; the ladies are so at ease in those characters, as soon as they slipped on the jewels and clothes it was such a transformation - it was like, bam: here we are sweety dahhhling."

Confession time. Today, I did a pretty shameful thing. Namely, I went to the Isabel Marant store in SoHo and I added myself to a WAIT LIST for $680 SNEAKERS -namely the Bobby Low-Top Sneaker seen above.

These suede beauts are quintessentially Marant, y'all - insanely chic without a hint of pretension - and I can no longer deny their allure. And while they are indeed cas and innately low-key, they also hide a sneaky little secret - namely a 3" hidden wedge heel. Comfortable and chic are no longer a contradiction, and we all have Isabel Marant to thank.

OOTD: Outside My Comfort Zone

Along with Winter, a New Year has arrived and this year, I've made a related resolution to THIS year embrace the unfamiliar - be it a designer, color, style or silhouette. First up? A SKIRT. I know, crazy, right? Fine, not really. But for some reason, I find SKIRTS sartorially stupefying. Like, what in the world do you wear with a SKIRT? Give me a dress, a skinny jean, a wide leg trouser, and I'm set. But a SKIRT? Criminy. I'm at a loss just thinking about it.

Which probably explains a lot when you take a look at what I rocked to tonight's Style Coalition Golden Globes Viewing Bash, sponsored by the kind peeps at Dove. Yes...I paired my AMAZING, new, uber-soft black leather skirt by Muubaa (snagged for a SONG at ideeli) with...well, more black. Sigh. Give me some time, y'all. I'll do better next time, promise.
