Step 1 - Plug it in!
As soon as you unpack your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, plug it into a power outlet to ensure that you have enough power to complete the setup process.
Step 2 - Set up your Wi-Fi network connection

Any Wi-Fi ® networks that are in range will appear in the listing along the left side of the screen. If you don't see your preferred Wi-Fi network in the list, it might have a hidden SSID. If that's the case, tap "Manually Connect to Network" and you'll be able to setup a custom Wi-Fi connection to your network as shown in the screenshot above.
You can also use a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) connection, which allows you to use secure connection buttons on your Wi-Fi router and / or secure PIN codes instead of manually specifying your Wi-Fi network connection. If you aren't familiar with WPS, I would recommend reviewing the user guide that came with your wireless router for information.
After you've made a successful Wi-Fi connection, swipe along the bottom of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet screen to move to then next step in the Setup process.
Step 3 - Specify the current Date and Time
The next step in the setup process will ask you to confirm the correct date and time. You can set the time manually, or specify the option to automatically set your date and time using your Wi-Fi network connection.
Step 4 - Review and accept the BlackBerry ID Agreement

From the "Country" drop-down list, please select your country location and preferred language. You'll then be presented with the BlackBerry ID Agreement. After you have reviewed the agreements and are comfortable with agreeing to its terms, tap "I Agree" to confirm your acceptance. You can then swipe and advance to the next screen.
Step 5 - Create or Sign In with your BlackBerry ID
After accepting the BlackBerry ID agreement, you'll be asked to sign into your BlackBerry ID account If you don't have a BlackBerry ID account, tap the "Create a BlackBerry ID" link. This will open up a new wizard and allow you to create and register a BlackBerry ID account.
Step 6 - Download the System Update
After you've signed in using your BlackBerry ID, your BlackBerry PlayBook will automatically start downloading the latest software available. After the download completes, your BlackBerry PlayBook will automatically install the software update. It is important that your BlackBerry PlayBook remain connected to a power source during this entire process. Once the installation is complete and your PlayBook restarts, you will be using the most up-to-date software.
Step 7 - BlackBerry Bridge Setup (for current BlackBerry smartphone users)
After your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet has successfully installed the system update, the next step will help you set up BlackBerry ® Bridge ™. This feature will allow you to connect your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to your BlackBerry ® smartphone so you can access your email, calendar, contacts and other data directly from your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. An important thing to remember here is that in order to use BlackBerry Bridge, you must be using a BlackBerry smartphone that uses BlackBerry ® Device Software 5.0 or later. If don't know which version of BlackBerry device software you are using, check out this knowledge base article - How to check the version of the BlackBerry Device Software installed on the BlackBerry smartphone. (If you don't own a BlackBerry smartphone, please skip this step. We can think of lots of reasons you should own a BlackBerry smartphone and a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet - BlackBerry Bridge among them - but we'll settle for sending you here for more info.)
If you tap Setup, you'll first be asked to choose a name for your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The next step will show you how to install the BlackBerry Bridge application on your BlackBerry smartphone.
Once completed, you'll then be prompted with instructions that show you how to "pair" your BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and start using BlackBerry Bridge. As you can see, it's as simple as scanning a barcode to get your BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry PlayBook tablet paired together!
Step 8 - Learning the BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet Basics
The final part of the setup process allows you to access several tutorials that will help you get the most of your BlackBerry PlayBook. All you need to do is tap on a topic of interest, and you'll able to take an interactive tutorial. If you're pressed for time and don't have a chance to review these tutorials, you can view them later from within the "Help" application.
At this point, your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is ready to go! For more helpful tips, I recommend reviewing the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet user guide (which you can also find in the BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet's Help menu) - it describes all the features and functionality offered by your tablet.
Keep an eye out for more posts about the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, including an overview of the applications that are included!

2011-06-24T12:02:00.000-07:00

When you take out your brand new iPhone, iPod or an iPad from the box, the first thing you wonder about is how to switch it on? then how to insert a SIM, and even after inserting a SIM it doesn’t function, all it shows that a connection is needed to iTunes. Just follow the steps for starting up a new iPhone:

How to Start iPhone:

The iPhone, iPod , iPad all have a power button on their top right corner, pressing it for 2 to 3 seconds, displays an apple icon on the display. This signifies that you have successfully started your new iPhone.

Where to insert SIM card:

In your iPhone there is SIM Tray located on the right side. For taking out the SIM card follow the steps below:

1. Its simple, you have to insert the end of a paper clip or SIM eject tool into the hole on the SIM card tray.

2. Push firmly, straight in until the tray pops out.

3. Pull out the SIM card tray and place the SIM in it.

4. With the tray aligned and the SIM card on TOP, carefully replace the tray.

5. If it does not close properly apply a downward force on it.

Once you are done, the screen will automatically display SIM card inserted.

Blackberry Curve 8900 review new

2011-06-22T02:41:00.000-07:00

Betteridge

We review the petite BlackBerry Curve 8900 the smallest BlackBerry with a full QWERTY keyboard

Rating:

Verdict: The smallest BlackBerry with a full-QWERTY keyboard, the Curve 8900 lives up to its promise. The only major downside is its size (it may be too small for some hands) and lack of 3G.

Price: From free on Orange, O2, Vodaphone and T-Mobile, depending on contract.

Pros: Excellent for email, small size, good looks

Cons: Its small size means how good it is depends on your hands, no 3G

Design: A smart, clean-looking, small phone which borrows the design ethos from the successful BlackBerry Bold.

Operating System: BlackBerry OS 4.6

More Info: Mobile networks or from www.blackberry.com

RIM appears to be determined to ensure that no matter who you are or what your preference in mobile phone style is, there’s a BlackBerry for you. For those who can’t live without a touch screen, there’s the Storm. For anyone wanting a small phone, there’s the Pearl. Or, if you’re wedded to a flip phone, there’s even the Pearl Flip.

But the company is arguably best known for its products which manage to cram a full QWERTY keyboard onto a small device. The Bold 9000 series is probably the most widely-known version, but for customers who want something with a full keyboard but smaller size than the Bold, there’s the Curve range, of which the 8900 is the most recent example.

Look and feel

The Curve 8900 takes its design cues from the previous members of the BlackBerry family, but shrinks the entire thing down a bit, making it the thinnest BlackBerry to date. Although slightly thicker than an iPhone, it’s smaller overall and has sleek curves which make it feel good in the hand.

Happily, it retains something that I’ve always liked about BlackBerrys, which is that it feels solidly constructed. For obvious reasons, I didn’t drop it - but it certainly feels like it could be dropped without inflicting too much damage.

One thing it doesn’t feature though, that was common to previous Curve models, is a silver-grey colour scheme. Instead, it has the black-and-silver of the Bold, a design which has proved pretty popular.

The keyboard is, of course, one of the reasons that you’d buy a Curve rather than the smaller Pearl, and it’s also the hardest area to gauge in a review like this. It’s nice feeling, with a solid click, but whether you will get on with it depends almost entirely on the size of your hands. I found that my typing was more error-strewn than on a Bold, but that might be partly because the smaller size takes some getting used to. I’d recommend you try it before you buy: this isn’t a product to buy without at least a few minutes in a shop.

Features and benefits

The screen on the BlackBerry Bold was something of a revelation, thanks to its sharp, vibrant colours - and the Curve 8900 is arguably even better. Putting it side-by-side with an older BlackBerry like my own 8800 leads to instant gadget-envy. And that’s before you even start using it. The bare-bones specs say that it’s a 2.4in TFT screen, supporting 65,536 colours at 480x360 pixel resolution, but that doesn’t do it justice. It just looks lovely.

There’s one big feature that’s missing from the 8900, and that’s support for 3G. It seems crazy in this day and age that anyone is shipping 2G phones, but RIM is, and this is one of them. Of course, the payback for using 2G is that the battery life is significantly better than it would be if it was a 3G phone - and as long as web browsing isn’t your prime use of the phone, it’s not a big deal. And the 8900 does have Wi-Fi, so if you want to download more quickly, you can always use that.

The Curve’s camera offers 3.2 megapixels with flash and auto-focus, which means you can take decent images with it. You can also record video, but the quality on this won’t have you abandoning your dedicated camera just yet.

Interface

The interface is the standard BlackBerry OS 4.6, which means that it’s a much slicker proposition than previous BlackBerrys have been. Icons are well designed, and the whole thing is easy to navigate at the top level using the trackball.

However, once you dig into Preferences, it’s still difficult to find what you want. That’s a shame, because if as much effort had been poured into the deeper parts of the interface as has obviously happened on the top level, it would be an excellent user experience as opposed to just a good one.

Applications

Of course, the primary application on a BlackBerry is messaging, and the Curve 8900 is just as good as its siblings. It’s capable of handling multiple email accounts with aplomb, and all the messages can be viewed in a single inbox - an approach which works extremely well.

Depending on whether you’re using it with BlackBerry Exchange Server (BES) or BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), you get differing degrees of support for business email features, filtering on server side, and so on. And there’s support for reading (but not writing) Microsoft Office documents out of the box, thanks to the inclusion of DataViz’s Documents to Go Standard Edition.

The BlackBerry web browser has come on in leaps and bounds lately, and now fully-supports HTML, RSS, and various different kinds of streaming media. It even supports viewing YouTube clips, which is a definite step in the right direction. However, compared to the browsers on either the iPhone or Android phones, it’s still not great and the size of the screen weighs against it. If web browsing is a primary use on your phone, you’d be better off looking at a Storm if you want a BlackBerry.

In summary
Judged on its own terms, the Curve is a success. It’s probably about as small as a BlackBerry could get and still have a usable full-size keyboard, and - like all BlackBerrys - it’s an exemplary phone for email use. If email is what you’re all about, then you want a BlackBerry - and if you want a small version of the Bold, the Curve is the right choice.

Windows Phone Mango 12MP handset from HTC shows up Florin By Florin New

2011-06-04T05:20:00.000-07:00

Phone HTC 12MP

The first Windows Phone handset to feature a 12MP camera may not come from Nokia, but from HTC.

Mobile-review’s Eldar Murtazin has showed off an unannounced HTC device that runs the brand new Windows Phone Mango, and has a camera that can take photos at a maximum resolution of 12 Megapixels.

The handset looks a lot like the HTC Trophy (launched in October 2010 with a 5MP camera on the back), so it may be a successor to it. It could also be just a prototype for testing Mango – if that’s the case, I don’t think we’ll see it on sale, ever.

The 12MP Windows Phone handset has been caught on video (see below). Unfortunately, there’s nothing about the phone itself in the video. All that talk – is about the Mango update.

Eldar Murtazin mentioned that the quality of the 12MP camera found on this WP device is “not bad at all”, so we’re really looking forward to seeing how this pans out.
