Below you will find what his code as a library project, and a sample project that uses the Yale Face Database.

Face Detection Library - A C# Library to wrapper basic face detection algorithm.
Face Detection Sample Application - A C# Project to built a simple example to show face detection function and performance issue.

OpenCV uses a k-nearest neighbor algorithm which i didn't really bother to port...I just used Euclidean distance (I'm not sure if that is what OpenCV was already using)...which should work most of the time.

Keep in mind that the code below is just a proof-of-concept and that it can definitely be optimized. I've also skipped doing image histogram equalization which might find more faces in certain images.

In my testing with the Yale Face Database, faces can be detected in ~1.4 seconds on a 300x300 image. That's nowhere near realtime detection, but that's mostly due (I think) to the bounds checking in .NET arrays and lists.

Quick profiling show that for a 300x300 image, there are about 52 million array accesses in that ~1.4 seconds which ain't too bad for C#. So here are some scissors....run with 'em.

Difference Between Explicit Join And Implicit Join?

Difference Between Explicit Join And Implicit Join? In theory， yes； in practice， no. The SQL-92 Standard says that the infixed join notation is executed in left-to-right order in the FROM clause. But the optimizer is free to re-arrange the query as long as the results are the same.

The "implicit join notation" simply lists the tables for joining (in the FROM clause of the SELECT statement), using commas to separate them. Thus, it specifies a cross-join, and the WHERE clause may apply additional filter-predicates:

SELECT *
FROM employee, department
WHERE employee.DepartmentID = department.DepartmentID;

This is called ANSI SQL-89 join synax while

SELECT *
FROM employee INNER JOIN department
ON employee.DepartmentID = department.DepartmentID

is called SQL-92 Join.

Both syntax are still part of the latest ANSI SQL Standard and in terms of performance or resource there is no difference. Respecting that standard Microsoft has no plan to remove support for SQL 89 syntax in near future..

However, many experts favours ANSI SQL 92 syntax writing SQL Joins in FROM Clause as it is less confusing because
if you omit or forget join condition in the where clause then

SELECT *
FROM employee, department
--WHERE employee.DepartmentID = department.DepartmentID;

basically you will be doing a cross join however if you forget to write ON clause in FROM your query will throw an error.

Do not take my words for granted.... Read T-SQL fundaments By Itzik Ben-Gan Chapter 3: There is a whole paragraph on this topic....

Oh ya... if you think that WHERE clause is evalueated after FROM caluse so SQL 89 synax can be slower... no

There is something in SQL Server called query optimizer and it is very smart and it has ability to transform join condition in the where clause....before evaluating the query

This does not make a difference with INNER JOINs， but it is vital with OUTER JOINs.

There is a good story about this proposal. We needed the OUTER JOIN syntax； the proprietary methods in Oracle， SQL Server， Sybase，Informix， etc. were all screwed up. But after we had defined the OUTER JOIN， it was easy to extend the paper to INNER JOIN， UNION JOIN，NATURAL JOIN， etc. （most of which nobody implements）。

The rationale after the fact was that a product could have an option to force an order of execution with the infixed notation. Since SQL products now have some kind of optimizer， it is not really useful.

The real difference is in the mindset of programmers. Those that write with infixed notation thing in terms of a linear sequence of joins， as if they were limited to simple binary Theta operators. The programmers that use the older notation will use BETWEEN， IN （） and other predicates that work with multiple terms.

c#:Parametrized Queries to Avoid Sql Injection

SQL injection is a code injection technique that exploits a security vulnerability occurring in the database layer of an application.

First things first:
Writing your embedded queries using string-concatenation like this:

string sqlQuery = "SELECT column FROM table WHERE column = \'" +
                  aVariable +"\'";

is bad practice.

It is not easy to read, it's hard to maintain, it does not offer optimal performance but, most of all, it creates a security-leak; your query is now vulnerable to SQL-injection.

The variable 'aVariable' can contain anything, and, if you do not check the contents of the variable, some unpleasant things can happen.
Suppose that aVariable contains this:

a';drop table tablename;--

Now, if you haven't checked the contents of the variable, and took some appropriate action, the query that will be executed will look like this:

SELECT column FROM table WHERE column = 'a';drop table tablename;--'

As you can see, 2 queries will be executed:
first, a select will take place, and then, a drop table statement is executed. As you can imagine, you -or your employer- will not be happy with this.

Another problem with string-concatenation comes to the surface when you want to filter on a date.
There are numerous ways of representing a date: dd/mm/yyyy, yyyy-mm-dd, mm/dd/yyyy, etc...
So, if you use string concatenation to create a query that filters on a date, you'll have to make sure that you use the same date-notation in your query as the date-notation that your DBMS uses.

So, to avoid these date and SQL injection problems, you can ofcourse write a bunch of code that tackles these issues but...
Why don't we let the database take care of these problems ?

This can easily be achieved by using parametrized queries instead of writing the query using string contatenation.

So, instead of writing your query like this:

string sqlQuery = "INSERT INTO customer " +
                  "( custName, city ) " +
                  "VALUES " +
                  "(\'" + name + "\', \'" + city + "\')";

you can write it like this in .NET (when you make use of the SqlClient)

string sqlQuery = "INSERT INTO customer " +
                  "( custName, birthdate, city ) " +
                  "VALUES " +
                  "(@p_name, @p_birthdate, @p_city")";

Or, if you use the OleDb namespace, you'll have to write it like this:

string sqlQuery = "INSERT INTO customer " +
                  "( custName, birthdate, city ) " +
                  "VALUES " +
                  "(?, ?, ?)";

As you can see, instead of 'inserting' the variables directly into the query, we use some kind of a 'placeholder' (a parameter).

Now, we still can't execute the query, because we need to give the DbCommand that we will use some additional information about the parameters. (We need to specify the values for instance).

This is the code that is needed to execute

string sqlQuery = "INSERT INTO customer " +
                  "( custName, birthdate, city ) " +
                  "VALUES " +
                  "(@p_name, @p_birthdate, @p_city")";

SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(theConnectionObj);
cmd.Parameters.Add ("@p_name",     SqlDbType.Varchar);
cmd.Parameters.Add ("@p_city",     SqlDbType.Varchar);
cmd.Parameters.Add ("@p_birthdate, SqlDbType.DateTime);

cmd.Parameters["@p_name"].Value = custName;
cmd.Parameters["@p_birthdate"].Value = dateOfBirth;
cmd.Parameters["@p_city"].Value = cityName;

cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();

As you can see, the Parameters property of the DbCommand is used to give some information about the parameters that our query contains. For each parameter, we specify the datatype and we give it a value.
Now, we do not have to worry about escaping quotes that may appear in the customers' name, we do not have to worry about the date-notation of the date of birth, we do not have to worry about possible sql statements that are injected into the query, etc...

(Please, check the MSDN for more information about the Parameters collection, and the overloaded 'Add' methods. It is possible to specify output-parameters, etc..).

If you use the OleDb classes instead of the SqlClient classes, you might wonder how you will be able to make the distinction between the different parameters in one query, since you're not able to use named parameters. (You'll use a question mark as a place-holder).
Well, with the OleDb classes, you'll have to add the parameters in the correct order.
So, the first parameter in your query, must also be the first one that you'll add to your 'Parameter' collection.

The vulnerability is present when user input is either incorrectly filtered for string literal escape characters embedded in SQL statements or user input is not strongly typed and thereby unexpectedly executed. It is an instance of a more general class of vulnerabilities that can occur whenever one programming or scripting language is embedded inside another. SQL injection attacks are also known as SQL insertion attacks.

Android Libraries

Android Libraries

Android offers a number of APIs for developing your applications. The following list of core APIs should provide an insight into what’s available; all Android devices will offer support for at least these APIs:

android.util The core utility package contains low-level classes like specialized containers, string formatters, and XML parsing utilities.

android.os The operating system package provides access to basic operating system services like message passing, interprocess communication, clock functions, and debugging.

android.graphics The graphics API supplies the low-level graphics classes that support canvases, colors, and drawing primitives, and lets you draw on canvases.

android.text The text processing tools for displaying and parsing text.

android.database Supplies the low-level classes required for handling cursors when working with databases.

android.content The content API is used to manage data access and publishing by providing services for dealing with resources, content providers, and packages.

android.view Views are the core user interface class. All user interface elements are constructed using a series of Views to provide the user interaction components.

android.widget Built on the View package, the widget classes are the “here’s one we created earlier” user-interface elements for you to use in your applications. They include lists, buttons, and layouts.

com.google.android.maps A high-level API that provides access to native map controls that you can use within your application. Includes the MapView control as well as the Overlay and MapController classes used to annotate and control your embedded maps.

android.app A high-level package that provides access to the application model. The application package includes the Activity and Service APIs that form the basis for all your Android applications.

android.provider To ease developer access to certain standard Content Providers (such as the contacts database), the Provider package offers classes to provide access to standard databases included in all Android distributions.

android.telephony The telephony APIs give you the ability to directly interact with the device’s phone stack, letting you make, receive, and monitor phone calls, phone status, and SMS messages.

android.webkit The WebKit package features APIs for working with Web-based content, including a WebView control for embedding browsers in your activities and a cookie manager.

In addition to the Android APIs, the Android stack includes a set of C/C++ libraries that are exposed
through the application framework. These libraries include:

OpenGL The library used to support 3D graphics based on the Open GL ES 1.0 API

FreeType Support for bitmap and vector font rendering

SGL The core library used to provide a 2D graphics engine

libc The standard C library optimized for Linux-based embedded devices

SQLite The lightweight relation database engine used to store application data

SSL Support for using the Secure Sockets Layer cryptographic protocol for secure Internet communications

Advanced Android Libraries

The core libraries provide all the functionality you need to start creating applications for Android, but it won’t be long before you’re ready to delve into the advanced APIs that offer the really exciting functionality.

Android hopes to target a wide range of mobile hardware, so be aware that the suitability and implementation of the following APIs will vary depending on the device upon which they are implemented.

# Hidden Menu is not removed but "Enable Root Permission" menu is gone.
# Can't access fastboot with spacebar key.
# There's still MapleStory and QuickOffice and bunch of undeleteable LG apps.
# There is gallery 3D but not they're not removed stock gallery. so now i have two gallery apps.
# One more system Wi-Fi Profile, name is "ollehWiFi"
# Screen Calibration is missing.
# Enter key to click is removed in Web Browser.
# Official upgrade tool keeps user settings.
# Unable to downgrade yet
# Music Player is updated.
# Tethering works with PdaNet
# Can be rooted with SuperOneClick v1.5.5

Benchmarks:

* Neocore - 19.1 FPS
* Quadrant - 206

Bottomline:

It's much slower than OpenEtna.
and can't downgrade to old firmware- which means you lost fastboot and can't flash OpenEtna for now. so be careful.

Download Link:

http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGKH5200/AKTFBQ/V20g_00/V20G_00.kdz
Be careful !

<del>As far as i know, there is no way to go back to an older firmware from that new official 2.2 !
That means you may never be able to go back to Open Etna after flashing that official firmware !</del>

I suggest to wait a little before testing that new official version. And i'm not saying that to promote Open Etna over the official firmware.
Open Etna will always let you go to any firmware you want. On the other hand you would be stuck maybe forevever to official firmwares once you updated to that 2.2 from LG.

EDIT: It is now possible to flash the official firmware without losing fastboot. But <del>ONLY</del> if you flash the N2k1 dump of the new firmware. If you flash it with the standard LG tool it may very hard to revert to an older firmware with fastboot and on Open Etna.

EDIT2: Raburton found a way to recover fastboot even if you flashed your device with the official LG tool.
To do so you will need to use the modified CAB file Raburton made. Then flash it using kp500utils.

Thumbs up to Raburton for that helpful workaround !

LG GW620 kernel hacking Working on Android 2.0

Froyo is running on the Eve! Polytheus modded the kernel enough so that it would run, and the OpenEtna project has been started at Google code. Please check there for all updates! Great work everyone!

Enkoopa request for the source for RILD (the radio deamon) from LG was denied. They can't give it out as it would violate their NDA with Qualcomm.

Yahoo! LG is making 1.6 for the Eve - which will include kernel 2.6.29 - which will make it 1000x easier to port AOSP on to this beasty! Waiting patiently for 1.6 to be released this spring sometime.

CyrilLD located the GW620's serial port. I've soldered a lead on to it and am trying to find it's device name so we can have the kernel output debug messages to it at bootup. Hopefully this will let us see why the kernel isn't booting.

After days of hard work a few of us managed to get the LG changes folded in to various flavours of the 2.6.29 kernel. I folded them in to the stock Android kernel, and CyrilLD folded them in to the CodeAura tree. Sadly, it doesn't want to boot right now. It just hangs at "Booting Linux..." and we're all frustrated.

What it does:

Download the fastboot binary. It's this binary that will flash your device and put Open Etna on it.

Download the adb binary. It's this binary that you will need to do a logcat or get in an adb shell.

Makes fastboot/adb executable.

Download boot and image of the latest release of Open Etna.

Uses fastboot to flash your device.

Enables you to easily access an adb shell or an adb logcat.

What it won't do for you:

It won't install gapps for you. See below for further details.

It won't work if your phone doesn't have a fastboot enabled firmware (IE you can't put your device in fastboot mode).

It won't work on Windows ( ROFL ).

It's not magic. It may not work 100% if the times and on all phones.

It won't install angry birds for you.

You won't earn any money using it.

Doesn't make your penis larger or something. (Can't find the command yet)

Pre-requisite:

A working Ubuntu (i don't think it works in a virtual machine). You can use Wubi if you don't have an Ubuntu computer available.

The flasher debian package (*.deb file).

You must know HOW TO PUT YOUR GW620 IN FASTBOOT MODE.

How to use it:

Download the debian package anywhere on your computer.

Navigate to the folder where you downloaded the file (with nautilus for example)

Double click on the *.deb file.

In the new window click on "Install this package" (you will need to enter your password to do that)

Open a terminal window and just type the following command : "flash-open-etna"

Read what is written in the terminal window and follow the prompt...

If something goes wrong, please say it there so i can take a look at it.
All (constructive) feedback would be much appreciated.

T-Mobile HTC HD2 Android

Many people want to know what is working and what's not working with Android so here is a list that I will keep updated so you can see the progress(T-Mobile HTC HD2 Android):

When someone go phone store to buy a HTC HD2 phone, they are shocked by suspiciously low price of HTC HD2 (100$+ cheaper than normal one). Is it a HTC HD2 mini version or just a Replica/Fake/Clone HTC HD2 from Chinese manufacturer? Let's start to study the difference between replica HTC HD2 and real one?

Whole Apperance Comparison

Front-Apperance Comparison

As shown above, there are a real and a fake htc hd2 phone, but it is very difficult to know the difference from the front apperance.

The whole apperance of both ones are almost same, and we could only find trademark on back-apperace - trademark of the real one is smaller than the fake one.

Front Apperance Detail Comparison

Top one is Real HTC HD2 phone

The Replica HTC HD2 has a striking camera and rough work.

Top one is Real HTC HD2 phone

While real one has brushed keyboard, the fake one has smooth keyboard.

Side Detail Comparison

Fuselage behind the camera from the same region of high imitation can understand the difference between HTC HD2 and HD2. First, HTC HD2 metal frame and the lens is not as high as the obvious imitation HD2 metallic luster, although only a little different, but very different in the manufacturing process. Secondly, we design from the flash can be seen, HTC HD2 Flash cover is white and almost opaque by design, and high-HD2 is basically transparent imitation can even clearly see the circuit board, work is more rough.

Work with than the appearance of immersive, open the back cover, then there is a "truth" feeling. Comparison chart from top to bottom can be seen significant differences. But it is worth noting that, from the comparison chart we can see a clear distinction, but if look at a machine, I believe that many of my friends will be puzzled out. HD2 cottage behind the house because of the certification body of information, machine information can be said to be quite complete. All of a sudden, I believe people will make the concept is not easily deceived by profiteers.

Google Android

Now is an exciting time for mobile developers. Mobile phones have never been more popular， and powerful smartphones are now a regular choice for consumers. Stylish and versatile phones packing hardware features like GPS， accelerometers， and touch screens are an enticing platform upon which to create innovative mobile applications.

Google Android hardware will be designed to tempt consumers， but the real win is for developers. With existing mobile development built on proprietary operating systems that restrict third-party applications，Android offers an open and equal alternative. Without artificial barriers， Google Android developers are free to write applications that take full advantage of increasingly powerful mobile hardware. As a result， developer interest in Android devices has made their 2008 release a hugely anticipated mobile technology event.

Built on an open source framework， and featuring powerful SDK libraries and an open philosophy，Android has opened mobile phone development to thousands of developers who haven't had access to tools for building mobile applications.
