I'm doing Fact: It's Friday with Becky at Baby Making.

And my fact is riddiculous and pretty dern embarrassing.

But here I go.

When I was little I wrote a Harry Potter fan fiction.

I know.
I almost don't want to talk about it. Maybe other fan-fic authors will reveal themselves, but if not, at least I've gotten this off my chest.
So, to most who know me, it's no news that I love Harry Potter, but when I was younger, I was a super freak. I hardly had friends, I just read all the time. During recess, I would sit by the doors of the lunch room and read. I was sort of a friendless loser.
In eight grade, I took the obsession to the next level and wrote a story about it. I always sort of liked writing, but I never wrote a full on story before. So I decided to write a fan fiction about Harry's parents, Lily and James, and all the Marauder's seventh year at Hogwarts.
Yeah.
But not going to lie, it was awesome.
I started writing in 2002, and then the fifth Harry Potter book came out and revolutionized what we knew about those characters, so it totally changed the whole thing.
Once, for a project in 10th grade, I submitted it. I was honestly behind on my homework, so I just re-edited this one and handed it in, but then I had to read it out loud to the class. yeah, that was embarrassing.
I never finished it, but I know how it was going to end, and it was epic.

I think I'm going to send it Jo and see what she thinks.

Here we go..

In the past few months, Alice has learned to do a lot of things. A. lot. Some of these pictures are from May/April and maybe a few in June. This little stinker bum is getting so big.

Before Alice's doctor told us not to, we may or may not have given her some of my courtesy cone from Arctic Circle...And she may or may not have loved it.

Whenever Alice sees the camera, she dives for it and makes these faces...it's pretty darn hilarious.

She's also a very good business woman. She gets a lot done at her computer.

I haven't had much chance to take pictures with this sweetie, but it seems like the older she gets, the more she'll tolerate me having photo shoots.

She's discovered a useful talent for glasses cleaning. I'd recommend her to anyone.

A week or so ago, we invited a few friends over to celebrate a friend coming home from Spain. We had a Fiesta, mustache and all. We've decided to have all of our family pictures include mustaches and sombrero's...

Alice was very good at helping Heather get ready for Prom. As you can see, she was key to the operation.

And YAY! She eats rice cereal! We tried it to help her sleep better, and it worked! Now we feed it to her two or three times a week!

Alice is a very good sleeper. She loves to cuddle with Mommy or Daddy, but mostly she loves having the bed all to herself. It's the baby life of luxury.

She's got some new swag too...A new phone and a new binky holder. Okay, not a new phone. But she loves mine. And she did get a new binky holder. It looks just like the one that I had when I was little.

We went to see Aunt Rose and Aunt Heather graduate! Alice was very good. She didn't really cry except when the people behind us let loose their air horns (yeah. I was annoyed). Every time everyone would clap, she'd get a startled look on her face and then look around like "What the heck? Who do you think you are?" It was hilarious!

Is Grandma taking pictures of the graduate? Nope!

That first face is her talking to blanket bear...Isn't that a hoot?

And one of the best things of all? She can stand!

Okay, not exactly. If you stand her up and put her hands on something and balance her just right, she can stand. But not really on her own. Just sort of.

Well...there is a better catch-up. Still more to come, but the bulk is over.

Long time no post....

Yeah. I wrote a total of one post in the month of April. And it was a "Hooray Alice is 3 months" post. And as of this coming Friday, she's 5 months. I think it's time for some catch-up.

Since we last saw Alice, she's made a new friend. Her elephant.

Alice had her first Easter! It was especially awesome because my Grandma Lois was there from St. George. She never saw me when I was pregnant and she hadn't met Alice yet, so she said she had to see the baby to believe I was a mom. They loved each other right away.
The best part was when they first met. My Grandma was talking to Alice, who had just woken up, and Alice was just being quiet and looking. Grandma was talking to her and said that she had a question. She said she asked all the newborn great-grand babies when they are first born, but this was the first time she held Alice, so she'd ask her now. Then she asked "Do you have a message for me from Grandpa-Great?" (who passed away 7 years ago). And Alice sudden made an adorable grumbling coo. It was so amazing! My Grandma was totally shocked, as we all were, and we all just started laughing. It was so great having her there for a week.

Also, my dad is hilarious.

So this is a *VERY* small catch-up...
but I thought I should post today. mostly so I could say I actually posted once in May (edit: Originally I wrote February. wut teh?). And also because today is a momentous day.

Today is the day that my mother started following my blog.

In the past week, Alice has become the cutest baby ever.

She already was, but now, her cuteness has grown exponentially.

EXPONENTIALLY!

See how cute and coy she is? How quietly excited she is?

Now she's loud, and happy and shrieking with delight. Honestly, she's the happiest most opinionated baby I've witnessed. When she's uncomfortable or just unhappy, she doesn't start to cry, she just starts talking in an angry way. Like "Hey. YOU. I want my pacifier."

Sometimes, when people say how funny it is that their baby/child screams at things, I feel bad for them. "They must have a brat child" I sometimes think.

But don't feel bad for me, because this kid is hilarious.

Last week, I'm pretty sure she laughed. I was trying to get some lint out of her neck folds (Seriously, she's got tons stashed in there), and she kept squishing my hand with her chin, so I tickled her and she made this crazy grunting noise. It was totally involuntary and she did it like five times! Rob and I were laughing so hard. Unfortunately she hasn't done it again. (Except maybe once last night.)

Don't wipe off your screen. It's neck lint.

ONE WEEK LATER

She has laughed again. A little last night, and a little tonight. It's funny because it goes from a weird grunty laugh to a weird "I'm going to cry so cut it out" laugh. It's great.

The new thing she's been doing the past two days is, when you open your mouth super wide and then go closer to her face (like you're going to eat her), she open HER mouth super wide. Like she's gunna eat you first. It's hilarious I tell you. Hilarious! It seems to be her new favorite face to make. Any time she's hungry and she even sees me, she opens her mouth like a truck is passing through.

And she's amazingly good at reading facial expressions now. Any face that comes with raised eyebrows is met with smiles and squeals. I swear, this kid is getting funner by the second.

She's pretty good at sitting up now--assisted of course, but she tries to sit up on her own. Mostly she ends up doing baby crunches, but sometimes she falls to the side and ends up on her tummy. Which she *hates.* Tummy time is hilarious because she's constantly shrieking at whomever is there. Back to sitting up--My Aunt Taryn let us borrow her bumbo and Alice loves it. She just sits and looks at everyone like she's some big girl or something.

She's staring at her Aunt Rachel. She *LOVES* Rachel.

She's also loving sucking on her hand. Or anything she accidentally-on-purpose grabs with her hand. It's so cute.

She's getting better at napping/sleeping while not being swaddled. Nice, but not nice. Nice because it means she's getting more control, not nice because I never know when unwrapping her will wake her up or keep her sleeping...

She's interested in her toys now too. She doesn't have many, maybe two, but she loves this piggy. It sings when it's pulled on, and she just stares at it. Like she's hypnotized. She sometimes grabs the little ring on the bottom as well. It's so adorable.

As I said in a previous post, she's been sick-ish the past few days. I say ish because she doesn't have a fever, she isn't coughing or fussing, just congested and choking. She's been sleeping like this.

Seriously, this girl is my best friend. I love it when she wakes up in the morning because (once she's done stretching and farting) she gives me a big tongue-between-the-gums smile. It's fabulous.

So...

I said I was going to post an Alice post today, but the sweetie had other plans.

This is Alice and her two new best friends, Saline Solution and the booger sucker.
My sweetie has some serious congestion going on. Went to the doctor, not RSV, but it could get worse, so we're watching it.
So, pretty scary. I'm probably the biggest worrier in the history of the world. Having a baby who's choking and sputtering while feeding her doesn't exactly make one happy.
But how is Alice doing? Well apparently no one told her she was sick. She's almost happier than normal, which I didn't believe was possible. She is such a blessing. We seriously lucked out in the baby department.

At the doctor's office, after she was done crying about getting her ears looked in, the doctor was talking to me and telling me what to do to help her, and she just started talking right back to him--like he was talking to her all along. She's just happy and talking and smiling and grabbing at things (!!!). It's too wonderful.
I just wish the breathing thing was going a bit better.
Well, I'm going to see if there is a way to watch her and sleep at the same time.
Any motherly advice out there?

Hi friends!

How did everyone enjoy conference this weekend? I loved it. I always feel spiritually refreshed and invigorated after a wonderful pep talk from the leaders of our church. What sort of themes did you notice? Rob and I noticed an emphasis on family and how both parents are responsible for the spiritual upbringing of their children. The mother is the heart of the home and the father is the family man. Also we noticed that our friends who aren't married should probably get married. Three different talks mentioned this subject. I thought it was pretty hilarious. Elder Scott's talk in the afternoon session was wonderful. My favorite thing he said was that he was sure that the love that he and his wife have for each other would only grow during their time apart. I had never considered it that way---that even if you are dead or your spouse is gone, your love for that person can change and grow stronger. We are eternal beings, and something like death isn't going to change who we are or who our loved ones are.

On another note, my no sugar resolution may have been broken for a Priesthood Session after party. But Robert said it was okay. Unfortunately it was still broken on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. But I don't feel like it's been an all out binge. I was surprised at how quickly I didn't want to munch on goodies. Maybe we're learning something from this "moderation" concept. I'm wanting to get on a different no goodie band wagon. Maybe not as ridged. Can I just tell you how much I'm loving on the peanut butter though? That is good stuff. Also, at Robert's parent's home on Saturday, they had some cantaloupe that was *fantastic.* Regardless of what Sunday's snow storm says, warmer days are coming. I can't wait to give Alice a taste of some watermelon.

BTW--that snow storm was messed up. I walked down stairs and was so confused. Saturday conference was showing footage of flower covered trees and green grass, and Sunday's was shots of trees and the temple covered in snow. Oh Utah, how I love thee.

Well. I should go to bed. I'll be posting a "Yay Alice is 3 months old" post tomorrow with loads of pictures, so stay tuned.

I love my husband.

I was just pondering that today.

I'm incredibly glad we are sealed together for time and eternity in a temple of the Lord. As husband and wife. As a family.

I was looking at this today, and I felt an overwhelming peace. Now may be difficult, but we have forever. And it always gets better.

It's not our anniversary, only April Fool's day, but this is no joke. He's my best friend and I am grateful for him.

Everyone at my house is going through a rough time.
Actually just Rob and I.
Robert has a sinus infection and a cold and I have sworn off sugar for a time.
Rob has antibiotics for his problem.
I have nothing.
Can I just tell you what a sugar junkie I am? It's disgusting.
On Monday, I ate something that was so unbelieveably good, but SO not good at the same time. I can't even tell you what it is. I'm so ashamed. I was so disgusted with myself, that I decided, for the first time in my life, I would go without sweets for a week. Then maybe two. Or however long I could go.
That same night, both my parents--independant of each other---went to the store, saw a sale, and we ended up with FIVE--that's right. FIVE---packages of Oreo's.
Can I just tell you how much I love Oreo's?
And we have Nutella.
And it's my dad's annual "I have lots of paper work due on friday so let's spend two days watching all eleven Star Trek movies and eating junk food" week. I LOVE this week.
Well, I did love this week. Until I made the best bad decision of my life.

Okay, honestly? I'm proud of myself. I lack what is sometimes called "self control." Being pregnant was my all out eating excuse. When I had baby, nursing became my excuse. But now, I've decided that I should eat food I want baby to eat, since she basically eats it anyways. Rob and I also decided on a reward. If I can go without for a week, I can invest in some pretty fabrics that I plan on using to make a new quilt for the two of us. It's actually quite the motivator. And honestly, I've felt better the past few days. More energy, more focus, a little antsy sometimes, but that's only because of the open packages of Oreo's that haunt my every waking hour. All in all I think it's been fun so far.
I did eat an Altoid today though. Do you think that counts?

But poor Robert. He's all stuffed up and snoring and I have to nudge him so he'll keep breathing.
Don't worry, I know he'll breathe on his own, but I figure if I can help, why not?
I'm pretty sure that being sick doesn't mean you can sleep in the MIDDLE of the bed though. Just a thought.
It's funny, people are always saying how "skinny" Robert is, but I challenge them to try to shove him to his own side of the bed. Then you tell me how "skinny" he is.

I feel like I can't end this post without saying how adorable my baby girl is. She's a hoot, seriously. Her waking up is the best part of my day. I'm working on a more in depth post about her fantastic-ness (because she's THREE MONTHS OLD!!!), but I thought I'd send a little shout out to the Sugar Bum. There is no way I'm cutting back on that Sugar.

Do any of you have any tips for the whole "no sweets" goal? I'm just trying to avoid anything dessert related, even if it is sugar free. What sort of magic secrets and good experiences can you sugar-free veterans impart? Anyone?

(and also, don't worry, I'm still doing my 365 days of pictures. I just haven't posted yet. I have too many pictures on my phone (actually, only two.) and I'm too lazy to take them off. I really should work on that...)

Fashion Saturday....

Something new I'm trying out.

And no way will it be pictures of me! Today we are seeing pictures of my stylish little sister, Rachel. We often comment that she is probably the most "fashion forward" out of the four of us--I have three sisters. Did you know?---though she is still pretty conservative. She's adorable and trendy. I'm jealous.

IKEA

So Saturday morning, Robert had an appointment in Salt Lake. In those moments before getting out of bed, when one discusses important things like who needs to shower and where the clean underwear is, I "spontaneously" sugguested that Alice and I go with him! I say "spontaneously" because I'm pretty sure I had been planning it all night.

I admit, I had alterior motives.

After much convincing, Robert decided he could handle a quick trip...

I.Loved. It.

I promptly forgot I had my camera, and I wandered around in awe. Robert thought my frequent gasping was pretty funny. We only had so much time before Alice would be hungry again, so we walked through the incredibly crowded store as fast as I would let us. It took about two hours.

As we were getting on the elevator to go down to the Marketplace, I remembered my camera.

This is how Robert felt about the crowded store.

Alice declined to comment.

I forgot about my camera probably the second we walked off the elevator.

It was a very happy trip.

So that night, we get home and I informed my sister Rachel where we went.

"What the!?" she exclaimed, "I want to go to Ikea! Let's go Monday."

So we did. and this time I didn't forget about my camera.

Fast forward.

We decided to take the baby in the [homemade] moby wrap, that way we could frolic around the sample rooms all we wanted and not have to worry about a cart.

Robert said he liked these book shelves (on Saturday).
I was surprised
and happy because I like them too!

We basically wandered around and took dumb pictures. I was making sure to take pictures of what I liked. That way I could look at it all the time when we got home.

(which was cold, by the way)

I think Alice liked being in the sling better than the cart. She didn't fall asleep, like I was hoping, but she wasn't being jolted and squished by people around us. It was mercifully less crowded though.

I love this bed, netting and all.

I think my favorite part was all the bedrooms. My room has always been a refuge for me, and I want to have a nice, clean, stress-free place for Robert and I to sleep. Now I have a lot of ideas and things I want for us.

Robert also surprised me by saying he likes this canopy. Normally he hates stuff like this. And I love this. So we're going to get it (and the pink version of that crib) for Alice.
I'm so excited.

A little big, don-cha think?

I loved the kids section. Cute mobiles, little sweet toys, and awesome kids chairs all over the place. I've never been a designer--I don't have the brain for it, but this stuff I can work with.

We decided to round off our time with little Swedish meatballs. So pooling our meager funds, we got a kids meal.

Mmmm. Meatballs.

While we where there, someone (Alice) decided to show off some new skills. Isn't 11 weeks a little young to be sitting up? I feel like it is.

She wasn't quite sure how she felt about it...

...Had some pondering to do....

We called it a day and walked through the Marketplace, taking secret shortcuts that they had signs for. Rachel wanted to carry Alice out, which I think Sweetie was grateful for because she fell asleep right away.

We thought it was hilarious that Rachel *barely* cleared this sign.

All it in all, it was a very Swedish furniture filled few days.

Annoyed.

I'm seriously annoyed.
You know how you say something (an opinion on something perhaps) and someone says something like:

"Actually it's been proven that >blahblahblah you're wrong blahblah<. Here is what you should do >blahblahblah I'm right blahblah<"

But really, you *know* they are wrong. Like, you have facts that back you up. You have facts that disprove their "facts." You can point out multiple inconsistencies in their argument and all their redundant statements.

But you can't. You don't want to be an immature butt.

So you have to sit there and be annoyed that this person gets the last word because you are nice enough to let them. And because you don't want to start some fight on someone else's facebook status.

I am so annoyed.

Please tell me this happens to you?

three.six.five. day.four. and other stuff.

I love it when I can tell Alice is tired. She get's so adorably whiney. It's hilarious. I just throw her in her pajama's and swaddle her up and suddenly, there is silence...then you look at her, and her eyes are fluttering closed and there is this overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. She's a baby who likes to sleep.

Have I mentioned that she's been sleeping through the night for almost a week now? By that I mean going to bed between 9 pm and 10 pm and not waking up until somewhere in the 5 am-8 am range. So awesome huh? (don't worry, I asked her doctor if it's okay, and he said she's gaining weight just fine so it's okay if she's sometimes going almost twelve hours between feedings. I got this.)

You know how I did it?
Two words. Well. One word, but it sounds like two.

Babywise.

I am a firm believer.
And she's super happy too. All because she's sleeping.
Except for today. Boy howdy, she didn't take a nap that was longer than half an hour, and it was apparent. I don't know what her issue is. But when I wrapped her up a few minutes ago? Well. See pargraph one.
