In short: it was a busy year for advancing web development technologies.
What will 2011 hold?
Below is a list, compiled by Citrusbits of some of the web technologies and trends we think should be on your radar for the coming year. These aren’t all straight up web dev technologies, per se, but they’re all things that will have an impact on website and app development in 2011.

1. jQuery Mobile

jQuery has become practically synonymous with JavaScript, in large part because of its extensibility, ease of use and strong project leadership. With the goal of being a touch-optimized web framework for tablets and smartphones, jQuery Mobile is one of the most visible projects aiming to take cross-platform, cross-device web development for mobile browsers to the next level. As more and more developers consider building apps with HTML5, a solid mobile JavaScript framework becomes more and more enticing. jQuery Mobile has the pedigree to become the de facto JavaScript framework for mobile.

2. Hardware-Accelerated Web Browsers

Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) is lightning fast, thanks to its use of DirectX 10 and hardware acceleration, vastly improving the speed and capabilities of the browser versus its competitors. Thanks to that envelope-pushing from Microsoft, Google and Mozilla are quickly scrambling to match the hardware acceleration capabilities of IE9. Next year, your browser is going to feel a lot faster.

3. Node.js and Server Side JavaScript

The Node.js website describes it as an “evented I/O for V8 JavaScript.” Essentially, it’s a toolkit for writing event-driven servers in JavaScript. What does that mean? In simple terms, it means no waiting around for slow I/O operations to complete before moving on to other operations; and for Node.js specifically, it means doing it all in server side JavaScript. For things like real-time web apps, web crawlers, file uploading, streaming, etc. — where speed is paramount — this is very important. Node.js represents the beginning of what I expect will be a wider spread adoption of server side JavaScript in 2011.
Web development trends in San Francisco

4. Real-Time Clickstream Sharing

There are tons of ways to share what you’re reading on the Internet — social sites and other online publishing tools made waves this year, with mass integration of share buttons and the gradual adoption of desktop clients, widgets and bookmarklets, which all made sharing easier. Real-time clickstream sharing is the next step in sharing your personal online experience, and 2011 is the year that will decide if the Internet is ready for it or not. Keep on sites like Sitesimon, Voyurl and Dscover.me.

5. NoSQL Databases

NoSQL, a loosely defined term used to describe alternative database engines that generally don’t follow the traditional relational database schemas widely in use, has been on the rise in recent years. Notable
alternative databases that gained attention recently include Google’s BigTable, Amazon’s Dynamo, Apache Cassandra, MongoDB, CouchDB, Voldemort and Riak. Of course, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater — different doesn’t necessarily mean better. There are always trade-offs when choosing one data model over another. As Ted Dziuba wrote, “by replacing MySQL or Postgres with a different, new data store, you have traded a well-enumerated list of limitations and warts for a newer, poorly understood list of limitations and warts.”
Still, the explosive growth of alternative database systems in the past couple of years definitely singles NoSQL out as a web technology trend to watch in 2011.

A computer may drive your car someday

Navigating our way down the street is something most of us take for granted; we seem to recognize cars, other people, trees and lampposts instantaneously and without much thought. In fact, visually interpreting our environment as quickly as we do is an astonishing feat requiring an enormous number of computations-which is just one reason that coming up with a computer-driven system that can mimic the human brain in visually recognizing objects has proven so difficult.

Now Eugenio Culurciello of Yale's School of Engineering & Applied Science has developed a supercomputer based on the human visual system that operates much more quickly and efficiently than ever before. Dubbed NeuFlow, the system takes its inspiration from the mammalian visual system, mimicking its neural network to quickly interpret the world around it. Culurciello presented the results Sept. 15 at the High Performance Embedded Computing (HPEC) workshop in Boston, Mass.

The system uses complex vision algorithms developed by Yann LeCun at New York University to run large neural networks for synthetic vision applications. One idea-the one Culurciello and LeCun are focusing on, is a system that would allow cars to drive themselves. In order to be able to recognize the various objects encountered on the road-such as other cars, people, stoplights, sidewalks, not to mention the road itself-NeuFlow processes tens of megapixel images in real time.

The system is also extremely efficient, simultaneously running more than 100 billion operations per second using only a few watts (that's less than the power a cell phone uses) to accomplish what it takes bench-top computers with multiple graphic processors more than 300 watts to achieve.

"One of our first prototypes of this system is already capable of outperforming graphic processors on vision tasks," Culurciello said.

5 Ways to attract traffic

1)POST UNIQUE CONTENT-

As we know everyone says that “content is king”. When a Windows Phone 7 ad appeared that promised revolution, one felt several unnecessary revolutions in one's normally placid parts.
However, two new ads, which appear slightly unfinished, have leaked via WMPowerUser, and there is no hammer and sickle, no mention of Cuba, not even some sad, slick promise that your life will be revolutionized. (It does, however, appear that some of the scenes were shot in Budapest.)
Instead, very cleverly, Microsoft is suggesting you get a life. One that doesn't involve staring into your phone all day. The implication is that the design is so strangely user-friendly that you won't have to, well, embarrass yourself in public. For example, Microsoft has shuttered its not-so-widely-used Soapbox video-sharing site and now gives users of Windows Live Movie Maker the option of posting to Facebook or YouTube. Within Windows Live Photo Gallery, people can post to Windows Live, but can also share photos directly to Facebook and Flickr.
"There are 30 million people who are actively using Windows Live Spaces and have been eagerly awaiting the next set of new blogging features," Microsoft's Dharmesh Mehta said in a blog post. "For these customers, Windows Live and WordPress.com have worked together to build a simple way to move your blog posts, comments, and integrated photos right over to WordPress.com and start taking advantage of all their new features."

Slimmer iPad on tap for second-quarter 2011?

Apple could release a more svelte iPad by the end of the second quarter of 2011, Goldman Sachs said in an investment report yesterday.
According to the analysts, Apple will keep the 9.7-inch display in the new iPad, but will attempt to make it easier on the grip by reducing its weight and thickness. The analysts also expect Apple to throw in a built-in camera and a mini USB drive for additional connectivity.
Goldman Sachs also touched on the possibility of Apple finally releasing the long-rumored 7-inch iPad, saying that plans for the smaller tablet have yet to be "finalized."
As expected, Apple isn't talking. Don"t worry, you probably already know them, but reminders never hurt anyone:

1. Shut it Down: This may sound simple but many of us just close the lid, turn of the monitor or set it to sleep mode. Completely shutting your computer down will keep it from overheating and leaking memory. Think of your computer like your brain, it can"t function without a good night"s sleep.
2. Defrag!: Again, another simple "duh" moment. Defrag your computer. Most PCs will even let you set up a regular defrag schedule once a week. Cleaning up your files on a regular basis will also keep your computer functioning at optimal speed.
3. Keep it Clean: During your regularly scheduled defrag, go ahead and run a scan for viruses, spyware, malware, all that bad stuff you can pick on the internet. Find a good program to keep your PC"s health good.
4. Don"t Drop It: Look, be nice to your laptops. Keep them in safe places, don"t expose them to weird temperatures and be sure not to eat or drink near them if possible. Also pets. I lost a laptop a few years ago to a cat pouncing on and then hairballing all over my keys, it broke my screen and something gross seeped into the circuitry. Trust me, helping your computer and your pets avoid each other is a good idea.

These might not be the most enlightening tips, but they"ll go along way in keeping your computer chugging along for an extra year or so.

Recover Lost Hard Drive Data

Here's the latest free hard drive data recovery program to be offered, and as always I advise you to maintain separate, removable media, to back up your precious digital photo files.

Of course the use of removable media for backup extends beyond your photo files and should include all files that you consider "must haves."

The "iCare", "Data Recovery 3.6" Software, is a bit more advanced than some past free offerings and deserves a look, especially since it's free.

Besides the usual data loss recovery feature "iCare's", "Data Recovery 3.6" Software allows you to recover deleted hard drive partitions, perform "deep scan recoveries" and "format recoveries."

Google Docs enhanced for mobile users

Good news for mobile users as Google has updated its Google Docs online App. to support document viewing, editing, sorting, filtering and much more. Well AT&T, guess what.... you lied.

In an official announcement this week, AT&T has announced SMS texting plans would be available on September 25th. That is decidedly three-days after summer. Here is the kicker, they have announced that tethering would appear "eventually." So, if SMS text messaging was supposed to be by the end of Summer, and it is late, then Tethering should be released when? What is later than "eventually"? I am not a temporal expert, but three days after eventually might just be never.

I love my iPhone, but I really hate AT&T and their support for the device. Ultimately, they are just shooting themselves in the foot. As soon as the millions of iPhone users can switch carriers, they will. At&T will have no one to blame but themselves. They could have kept me forever if they had just did what they said they would do.

Doing Business in the Cloud

In a nutshell, if you're a company can't afford to experience any significant down-time, but still has to be prudent to not invest in more in your hosting than is necessary, then some kind of cloud hosting package is probably what your business needs. Basically, with a cloud hosting package, your business can save money by not spending more than you need to, but still harness all the benefits of cloud computing — such as scalability and enhanced server performance. Such features are ideal for a company that's tech- and/or web-reliant, but doesn't have enough free resources to commit to something as comprehensive as a dedicated hosting package.

What is Cloud Hosting?

When web hosting meets cloud computing, the result is a variety of hosting products that let businesses dynamically scale resources according as their business needs fluctuate. By adjusting their hosting packages on an as-needed basis, businesses can save money by paying only for what they need and still avoid any downtime caused by servers going over capacity. In general, there are three general kinds of cloud hosting technologies that businesses can leverage to reap the cost efficiencies of cloud computing.

3-D movies via Internet and satellite

Blockbusters like Avatar, UP or Toy Story 3 will bring the 3-D into home living rooms, televisions and computers. There are already displays available and the new Blu-Ray players can already play 3-dimensional movies based on MVC. The first soccer games were recorded stereoscopically at the Football World Championships in South Africa. What is missing is an efficient form of transmission.

The problem is the data rate mandatory by the movies in spite of fast Internet and sat-ellite links. 3-D movies have higher data rate requirements than 2-dimensional movies since at least two images are needed for the spatial representation. This means that a 3-D screen has to show two images one for the left and one for the right eye.

Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich-Hertz-Institut, HHI in Berlin, Gera number of have already come up with a compression technique for movies in especially HD quality that squeezes movies while maintaining the quality: the H.264/AVC video format. What H.264/AVC is for HD movies, Multiview Video Coding (MVC) is for 3-D movies. The benefit is reducing the data rate used on the transmission channel while maintaining the same high-definition quality.

Google Android Net Books - The next generation PCs?

Net books have always been the enviable gadgets, which gives us the ability stay connected while we are on the move. That iPhone 4 software update will do nothing to fix the reception problems–it is a hardware issue.

Gizmodo e-mailed AppleCare support three times this week and got the same answer every time, which means that Apple has changed their tone ever so slightly. AppleCare representatives confirmed an antenna interference issue when the phone is held near that infamous lower left-hand corner. The software update would only make iPhone 4′s signal meter more accurate, and not fix the problem.

In other words, now you’ll really get an idea of how much this issue is killing your reception.

Apple is telling its customers as it has in its most recent public statement to not hold the phone in a manner that causes the hand to touch that lower left hand corner, or purchase a $30 bumper from Apple which would solve the problem (a case from any manufacturer would, too).
Meebo IM Review from Citrusbits: Technology company from San Jose

As a Web-based tool, Meebo IM is flexible and adaptable in ways that client-based tools like the Android IM app can't match. The Meebo Android app restricts you to adding only a subset of your IM accounts--including such popular services as AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger, and the IM services that Meebo provides to the Facebook and MySpace social networks--directly.

In contrast, the Web-based Meebo supports 54 different instant messaging services and social networks (at last count). To use more than the 8 services listed above, you must create a Meebo account, log in to Meebo through a regular Web browser on a computer, and add your other IM or social network account details to the account. Then, when you log in to the Meebo Android app, all of your accounts and friend lists will appear there. If your Meebo account is configured to store instant message history or logs, those will be saved if you use the Android client, but you'll need to use the browser-based Meebo client to access them.
Meebo suffers from the same problems that many other IM clients do on mobile devices. Where network coverage is spotty, your IM accounts may often lose connection and log you out. Also, spim (spam over IM) may attain a new level of power to aggravate when your phone constantly beeps at you to read a new message. But if you need to stay in touch over IM, Meebo is among the best Android IM clients--free or paid--you can use.

More San jose technology news at http://www.citrusbits.com/

More San Jose Web development news at http://www.citrusbits.com/

About Citrusbits Inc.

Citrus Bits is an I.T and BPO services company based in Silicon Valley providing a broad portfolio of technology and business solutions to help its worldwide clients improve organizations’ operations, large and small, through our selected services, delivering and increasing revenue.

Citrusbits is headquartered in San Jose California.

Citrusbits Services

1- Citrusbits Information technology services

2- Citrusbits Back office services

3- Citrusbits Website development services

Negroponte Says $75 Prototype Tablet Coming in 2010 Tech news from San Jose I.T company

One Laptop per Child announced this week that its prototype XO-3 tablet computer will debut two years ahead of schedule. Then click the IE icon in the taskbar, and...nothing happens. Instead of switching over to Internet Explorer as you'd expect it to, Windows 7 greets you with miniature pop-ups for every tab you’ve opened in IE and asks you to choose the one you’d like to go to.

Windows 7’s Aero Peek offers some helpful features, but also makes switching between programs with multiple windows harder to do quickly. This feature, called Aero Peek, is actually a nice idea, since you get to choose the tab you want to see. But we’ve been trained for years to expect to switch to a new program when we click on its icon in the taskbar, so why change the behavior now? In Windows 7, many Microsoft-made programs (including Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer 8, and Windows Live Messenger) use this feature. But since you can also activate Aero Peek by hovering over a taskbar icon instead of clicking it, a better solution for Windows 7 would be, hover to peek but click to switch.
The Automatic Switch

Thanks to another Aero Peek function, when you move your pointer over any of the small pop-ups, you suddenly find yourself in the new program--except that you aren't really there. When you mouse over a pop-up, the corresponding application fills the screen, but when you move the pointer to go to the app the app disappears. The purpose of this feature is to enable you to quickly navigate to another program like IE, refer to something in the browser, and then jump back to where you were. But suppose that you’re in Microsoft Word and you jump over to IE 8 to check out a news item on CNN. As you read the article, you decide to click an accompanying video--but the moment you move your mouse, you’re back in Microsoft Word. That’s not helpful; it’s frustrating.
Windows 7 behaves similarly when you hover over 'All programs' in the Start Menu. Hover too long over ‘All programs', and Windows 7 will switch to your full programs list instead of remaining in the primary Start Menu. Unfortunately, this little trick takes just under 2 seconds to pull off, which is too slow to be useful but just fast enough to be annoying.

More San jose technology news at http://www.citrusbits.com/

More San Jose Web development news at http://www.citrusbits.com/

About Citrusbits Inc.

Citrus Bits is an I.T and BPO services company based in Silicon Valley providing a broad portfolio of technology and business solutions to help its worldwide clients improve organizations’ operations, large and small, through our selected services, delivering and increasing revenue.

Citrusbits is headquartered in San Jose California.

Citrusbits Services

1- Citrusbits Information technology services

2- Citrusbits Back office services

3- Citrusbits Website development services
