A small intro here: this was written by an actual client! she explains better the reasons to do a boudoir session better than me :)
I needed to re-read this. So I am giving it the 2019 update. This post from 2011 is one of the reasons I love boudoir and what makes women feel. Feeling sexy instead of trying to be sexy by society standards. Leigh was awesome to write this for me, and it was awesome to see her again in 2018 still a strong woman embracing her super feminine side.

Guest Post: A Gift to Myself at 75

The idea of doing a Boudoir photo session started off as a gift to my boyfriend for his birthday. While it still is a sexy little gift for him, it turned into a bigger gift to myself. I’ve even showed the pictures to a few girlfriends, and they’ve been inspired to do something similar.

At first, it felt a bit indulgent to want to do this.

Then I thought – why? If I can’t feel good about my body and feel sexy when I’m happy, healthy and in a good place in my life – when will that ever happen?

I decided to get over the self-doubt, the judgment, forget about what anyone else would think, and just go for it. So I booked my session with Marlen.

I trusted Marlen, and because of her, I felt really comfortable doing something I don’t ordinarily do every Saturday.

I wanted to see what it was like to FEEL genuinely sexy and sexual through my own eyes, instead of trying to BE sexy by someone else’s standards.

I wanted to get in touch with my incredibly feminine side.

I wanted to remember that being a girl is FUN

I wanted to know that feeling sexy doesn’t mean you have to compromise your dignity, your pro-womanhood, and it doesn’t have to be degrading to other women.

And, I wanted some kick ass pictures to prove it!

Well, I got what I wanted.

I can’t tell you what an amazing experience it was. Plus, I feel a little bad ass, I gotta say. And it feels really, really, good.

I realized that not only was I doing this for my boyfriend who appreciates me no matter what I am or am not wearing, but that I was doing it for myself and that, even though I wore red lipstick for the first time, I don’t need lipstick to feel good about myself.

When I’m 75, I’m going to look back on these photos and appreciate them. This gift to myself at 75 is that I had the good sense to feel good about my body and get in touch with a whole new side of myself on my own terms, with Marlen’s help.

So I say life’s short. Go for the red lipstick and just see what a different side of you can be like.

Finding Your Perfectly Fitting Swimsuit

Dreaming of warmer days, sandy beaches, and tropical getaways? You aren’t the only one. The best part about escaping to warmer weather is shopping for new clothes. However, most women don’t exactly get excited over the idea of swimsuit shopping. No matter what size, shape or age you are, it can be a little defeating trying to find a swimsuit you feel comfortable. Which is exactly why this little guide was created. Now you can find that perfectly fitting swimsuit that gives you the confidence you deserve. It really is possible to do so without having to try on 20 others before you finally just end up settling on the one you feel the least uncomfortable in.

1. Figuring it Out

You’re probably familiar with the body type guide: apple, pear, hourglass, and straight. Of course, it’s very unlikely you are one specific shape to a T. However, narrowing down your body type will help you figure out which swimsuit is going to be right for you. Women with smaller busts should look for ruffles, stripes, or padded style tops. If you’re a bit on the bustier side, look for supportive styles like halter tops or a top with a built-in underwire. Things like jewels, tassels, fringe, and any other eye-catching addition can help draw the eyes away from any place you feel self-conscious about. Look for interchangeable pieces like a fun, embellished top and a darker bottom. Or a supportive top or women’s tankini swimwear, and fun, flirty bottoms.

3. Get Outside your Comfort Zone

Swimsuits are like shoes; you can never have too many. Unlike shoes, you can mix and match the suits for endless options. Experimenting with new styles, colors, prints, and patterns can be fun. So don’t be afraid to get a little outside your comfort zone. Why not trade that tankini for a supportive halter style? Or switch up the two-piece for a fun and flirty one piece.

4. Create an illusion

Did you know that detailing like ruching or shirring can create a slimming effect? Shirring refers to the tightly woven gathers in the fabric. This tight weaving not only holds you in but it’s basically magic for all figures and body types. It can hide any bulging and is very forgiving on your waist and curves. Ruching can be characterized by draped and gathered fabric. Ruching along the midsection can hide your tummy and keep you looking cute. Surprisingly, all over prints can actually hide a full bust or conceal a bulging tummy. So, seriously, don’t be afraid to try a swimsuit in a color other than navy or black.

Whatever you’re looking for, finding the perfect swimsuit is all about highlighting your best assets, and identifying an effortless fit and cut. Be mindful and honest with yourself about which cuts and silhouettes work, colors that highlight the best of your summer complexion, and fabrics that work no matter where you are. No matter what, be true to yourself and be 100% confident!

Besides the benefit of your partner getting sexy images that you get to enjoy after, I think it sends a message of:

So not only you get sexy art, she gets:

The surprise: "oh my lordy, what the hell have you gotten me into."
The getting ready and pampering part of removing the extra fuzz, and she will be extra-nice if you add a gift certificate for a mani-pedi, or a spa treatment.
The chance to dust off the lingerie, even an excuse to buy a few new items. Everybody needs a new nice bra set. The latex is optional.
The photoshoot part, is about a nice girly time, getting the makeup done and general goofiness. Alcohol is allowed. I am telling your partner to get on all fours and lick her finger.
The result: Most clients are like:" wow, I didn't think I could pose sexy!" Which, let's face it, we do not feel sexy that often, especially after kids or being in a relationship for a while.

So you see this all over Pinterest. More when the teams are actually winning.

The man in your life loves the darn game. So take a photo with the shirt. Even better the scarf. I am digging the scarf more as you can be pretty much naked under it.

Why are these so popular? I am guessing is two things, the contrast between something masculine on your femenine acting (well, because we don't always act very ladylike- like currently slouching on a desk with my legs open) There is a little bit of ownership as well. Like: "that sexy woman is mine!" She is wearing my thing! me like! And of course, the sport itself.

Here are some tips to rock the sporty stuff:

When the shirt is giant, you actually do not have to wear it. Just hold it in front of you like so: Way more flattering and again, points if you wear nothing under it. Maybe even do it for a game too, just maybe not an important one.

Note: see how we are grabbing the shirt and cupping boobs up at the same time? SCIENCE

Scarf:

Really liking this! There are more soccer things but hey, if you find one with the leafs or raptors go for it. BONUS: buy one and then wrap the photo in it and give it as a present. win-win. Extra points for socks!

Hats:

This one is more easy to achieve since it can be snuck out with no problem. Small, fits anywhere.

And topless and a hat just works.

So do not stress about trying to sneak in your boyfriend's apartment on game day to steal a shirt (true story) grab something simple! Winners has stuff in the boys department. Go crazy there and do not spend too much.

And the ULTIMATE sample of a sport boudoir idea was from a couple, that booked the hotel that faces the Rogers Centre. So they could watch the game after.

Yes, the ladies have to sneak around and keep it on the down low from their hubbies, or hubbies to be, or even their "too curious" friends.

The Excuse:

Here are some good excuses for the day off.

Spa day "I bought a Groupon for a spa day with makeup application so I will be gone a couple of hours"
Hair Dresser "Yes, I just went to the hairdresser but she has to fix a highlight and it will take a while"
Wedding Makeup trial "we are doing another test - not sure I liked the first one"
Your crazy friend is having a glamour shoot and you are coming along for support.

Keep it simple, as soon as they hear something girly like makeup and hair, their mind strays. This way you can come home all done up and even maybe go out with your nice makeup and lashes.

The Lingerie:

Now the trickiest part I think is to sneak out with a bag full of underwear and sexy things. Especially difficult when you live together. Good thing they are not heavy.

A good gym bag can carry most of it.
If you can stash it in the car the day before great.
Leave it at a trusted friends house.

Or just blame it on a friend/sister that is borrowing some stuff for a photo shoot. Don't give details :P

See? It all fits on a large handbag. The shoes are the bulkiest item.

Note: Don't stress about getting one of his items to wear that he might miss, like his hockey jersey on game night. I'm sure he will like the other pics:)

And lastly, you can shoot on what you are wearing. That white t-shirt with no bra or his favourite band shirt.

How to do your own boudoir shoot with a phone - update

Inspired by my popular post "how to shoot your own boudoir photos" and this picture which title is:

"NUMBER ONE USE OF CAMERA PHONES THESE DAYS" (Get naked and take pictures)

Yes, we have all done it. Good thing we are not famous- yet.
Now, this post is about how to take your naked selfies to the next level.

Here is my attempt to eradicate those pictures taken in the washroom mirror - the horror.
Fine. I can't eradicate them for good since we still have to take a picture of the outfit #OOTD we are wearing that day and post it.

But for sexy pictures in your underwear- Please use this.

Photos from when the original article was published in 2010 (DANG!) on an iPhone 4 and about 15 pounds (pre-Lily) less and different hair. This only reinforces my thought on "you look awesome right now". Do not wait for when I do x. Time flies.

1: Get your room ready.
My room does not look like this every day. Everything goes into the closet and the catch-all drawers.
Pay special close attention to clutter on surfaces, I know usually nobody is going to look behind you if your cleavage is right there, but don't be that chick of the selfie mouse on the floor

2: GET READY
Thank goodness for push up bras. Aren't they awesome? And my Batman undies. I nerded out for this shoot. Tips on what to wear are here.
Makeup. Pile it on. Youtube has amazeballs makeup tutorials, don't get lost in the rabbit hole so make sure you actually do this first. This one she creates a Victoria Secret model look. She can do anything.

3: PHONE

After you prop it on a chair like I did or get one of those gadgets to stick your phone on surfaces, set it up to Time Lapse Option so you have some time to move around. Make sure you have enough memory so back up all your photos before attempting this. You will need the space.

4: TAKE THE PICTURES:
All right here you go, it is way easier when no one is looking :). And you are actually looking at yourself in the phone so it helps. If you are shooting video set your iPhone horizontally - but for photos vertically it's ok.
So start the goofiness. Use props. More tips on what to do click here Just remember, you are on your knees here so move around. Go on all fours. You can think of something :P Avoid using the digital zoom, it ain't pretty.

5: EDITING: There are tons of apps out there, for simplicity I use Snapseed others even change your body shape. But if you already feel sexy in your underwear and makeup, this looks better than what an app can do.

What not to do:
besides losing your phone with all those pictures- or sending them to a jerk


All I see is the toilet.

Almost... good try, the darn toilet paper got in the way. Push that tush.

So if you must... this is a good example. Almost no crap and all you see are boobs. It's purpose is to tease. If you ever break up - there is no face! just awesome boobs.

And also points for clean mirrors! Anyway- hope you just set the self-timer and start having fun without holding your phone.

And lastly, do not forget to back up the photos from your phone, back them up on your computer.

Or if you are feeling fancy there is a new digital frame that connects to your phone. Can you imagine having this aura frame while you are away on a girls night out or even shopping to be more realistic and have it set up remotely to play your sexy photos? HA. And it also has a NSFW setting in case your in-laws are visiting you can turn the naughty ones off. I need one of these things. They also have a handy guide to take better pictures. Clothing optional! Just be careful if you are outside :P you do not want to flash people.

5 Traveling tips from a photographer

I am trying really hard to make "snowbirding" happen. Yeah like a verb.

My dream is to work winters in Mexico (after Valentine's day so I can finish those orders)

And stay until is warm in Toronto (maybe May). But with kids and their school and all that stuff I can't, this is the longest I have been away before my youngest starts kindergarten and I did not organize it very well. I need to share some tips I learned along the way.

I was gung-ho about staying for free at my mom's place, being in the warmth and eating tacos. Lot's of tacos.

Realization number 1

We brought too much stuff. By we I mean my daughter and husband. I am almost done creating a capsule wardrobe since I wear black all the time I do not worry about looking like I am wearing the same thing. I am, and pfft, I really do not care. In the other hand, my rainbow inspired daughter and husband have all the colours to mix and match and specific things that go with specific things.

Next time we are keeping it to 3 casual outfits, one warmer outfit to travel from the cold to here and in case it gets chilly, 3 summer outfits and one formal one, that is it! #blackoutfitsallmatch #greyisacolour #makeupdoesnotcount

Realization number 2

If you are staying with family, have a backup plan. Learned it the hard way. Thanks to Airbnb and Trivago (last minute hotel). #familytelenovela #pricklypears #iambeingnice

Camera gear is heavy AF. I normally shoot with a Nikon d800 (team Nikon!) but for a lighter version, I travel with my backup Nikon D7000, 250 grams lighter. UGH. So with my intention of grabbing a lot of photos for stock and backgrounds I have to lug what feels like 20 kilos of gear. And then I end of taking lots of photos with my phone, just because I am too lazy to carry the 20 kilos. So I end up using my camera for exactly 2 days out of the 45-day trip. I need this compact camera. I will try to be good so I can get it for xmas, pfft, not likely. #LGvsNikon #VantagePoint

The internet, you need it. Unlock your phone before you leave the country! Then buy a sim card for your stay and get a pay as you go package.

Google maps IS your best friend. Cities like Guadalajara are not in a grid. More like a puzzle piece. And even if you do not have a data plan, map the location you are going to, and do not close the app, your location services on your phone will let you know exactly where you are at all times, even if the map doesn't update, your location will with the blue dot. #googlemap #savesrelationships #iwasright #noneedtoaskfordirections #lostgringo #googleknowswhereyoupee

And lastly, calories during vacation do not count, especially when you are walking around and getting lost. #allthetacos

My Boudoir -updated January 2017

Where the magic happens... yes photographic magic.
Anywho I needed to post an updated picture of my place and I took this picture before clients came in on the weekend and preserve the pristine appearance that usually lasts 5.2 minutes.
:)

SO! I moved it to another apartment I share with a neighbour. It's like having a super tidy roommate that disappears when I have to shoot. Not like the 3 other roommates I have at my place. Lily is not the neatest.
And I discovered that the huge window made a difference in the sessions! Love the natural light now. I hardly need extra lights anymore.

It is a little bit small, but mighty, I have shot up to 5 people in here, but ideally I shoot individuals or couples. When you bring a friend I just move them around.

And some recent samples. I am loving all the natural light.

So! where was I?

Oh yeah, you have to trust your other half that in the case you ever broke up; pinkie-promise that these images do not end on the internets for the world to see your abilities.

I updated the Couples page and a handy dandy BROCHURE
I condensed all the tips there, it comes in handy when someone purchases a gift certificate and info of what to expect is needed.

It is really a lot of making out, cute making out, not eating faces because we do not want to ruin the makeup, a lot of boob grabbing, and a lot of pretending I am not there.

Tips on what to wear:

For her- they are all here on what to wear for your session

For him:

Suit with tie and everything (not to worry about the shoes really) or just bring shirt and tie.
Jeans and simple t-shirt
Boxers/ briefs/thongs I do not judge. Maybe a little but I won't tell you. Simple colours, preferably no prints.
Shave super early in the day on even the night before if you have sensitive skin.
Tweeze the unibrow and brush off your lips with your toothbrush for kissable lips.
Moisturize after your shower, you want to look dewy

Holiday Family Portrait Tips

For non-cheesy family photos!
Well, who am I kidding, if there is a time for cheese it should be the holidays! Here are some tips and recommendations based on my "viral" Family Portraits tips on the beach. And by viral I mean, it gets pinned on Pinterest. I wish I could get bookings from that thing but I guess reputation is great.

First, I just want to say, take this chance to take a nice photo, even if it's Walmart, as long as someone else is taking the photo. Dress up, print it, and hang it on the wall, not just post it on facebook.
So take advantage of the holiday pressure and kill two birds. Get an awesome family photo and send your relatives a printed photo.

So my first tip is going to be:
1. Do a formal portrait. Maybe add a touch of red, but don't make it too Christmasy with the red and green together. Yes, a pop of red is great. But think home decoration. You do not want to print a big photo with your reindeer sweater. It doesn't look that great the rest of the year.

2. Wear neutral colours. For the same reason above, BUT, add a Rudolph scarf? Your ugly Xmas sweater? Your Santa hat? Yes take a couple of really holiday photos but only keep it to a couple.
Wearing neutral colours will let you use those accessories quickly without stopping a shoot for a change. Remember, kids have the attention span of a, well, kid.

3. Keep it short. Kids give you a solid 10 minutes attention if that. So be ready, have the arguments in the morning while getting ready, and drag them all dressed up all ready. Yes, promise ice cream and treats if they behave, but use it as a last resort. Explain how this is a gift for grandma, for someone they like, and that it is very fun and short! A good photographer will capture honest laughs or action shots. I always ask them to show me how high they can jump. The joy of playing is priceless. Or instead of a kiss, to blow a raspberry :)

4. Tickle and play. It will be great if all of you are looking at the camera at the same time, but really, it rarely happens. So tickle away, I will make sure those 4 takes look like one awesome one. Or maybe just get a moment like this:

3 reasons why not to have a boudoir session...

I am gonna get a little serious here, (this photo is me trying to do a smart face?) but the dorkiness will show up - don't cha worry.

This one I have been cooking for a while. But first, let me say that I think everybody should do it once in their life for themselves.

And this is the important part. I've had clients which have told me "My husband/boyfriend/other really wants these type of photos" and great! as long as that is giving you motivation and excuse to do it.
BUT, and this is a big BUTT

1. Do not do it because you have been told to do it.

Especially if you are saying to yourself: This is not me... I feel so hoochie... I can't. Then maybe don't. Do a glamour photo session instead.

A little black dress that shows some cleavage. Or your jeans and a cool shirt with high heels. You do not have to show me anything. Or anyone for that matter.

2. You do not have photos of yourself.

There are people that hate their photos with a passion, (my mother for example) runs away from the camera or when coerced looks at some other random spot, anywhere but the camera. PET PEEVE of mine. I have one of her with my son, and where the fudge is she looking at, I have no idea.

If you are like my mother, try a glamour session first. You will love at least one.

3. You have really high expectations of my photoshopping skills.

Oh, I can do it, I will give you Kim Kardashian butt, but, do you really want to? I can also make you the shade of number 6 line of the toaster. But you are super pale. It does look a little bit fake. Go to get a spray tan at schulzbeauty.ca first.

I will fix the tank top tan from that weekend you forgot sunscreen. Or match the belly to the arms, that I can do, and do it well. It is when you are expecting abs when there is none, or worse, because another photographer did it for another session in the past. Nope. You do not have barbie skin. Or a barbie butt. It is plastic.

And I am pro-photoshop. Enhancing what is already there and fixing little things like skin tone matching and the chin pimple, and the darn mysterious super bruise.

There! I let it out of my chest, feel better now!

But again! let me emphasise! Do it for you!

Types of boudoir photography

Did you know that there are differences in boudoir photography? This is my simplified version of what you can get when you show your boobs. I kid.

Pinup
This one it is a bit more costume-y, for the fans of retro and really dig it. Anyone can pull it off with the right makeup, hair, outfit, and attitude. You have to be more outgoing and flirty and "out there".

The background is plain and any colour. The outfits require more planning. Click here for info and to book!

Artistic or Implied Nude
Well, yes, you do have to take all your clothes for this one. It's more a play of light and shape, more like a piece of artwork to put up on your wall. Barely any eye contact needed really.
Here also there is a comfort level needed, it also helps if you have an idea in mind that we can interpret. For this one, I would go for a simple white or black background.

"Fashion Magazine" boudoir
A little more brazen and plenty of eye contact. This is the Maxim style cover. TheVictoria Secret catalogue. Fan in the hair. Touching body.

"Getting ready" boudoir

My specialty. A little peek into the sensuality of you getting ready, or getting undressed. Some tossing around the bed included.

The idea is capturing you in a natural setting and the result is a little more voyeuristic.
Bridal Boudoir falls into this category. Using the elements of your wedding attire :)

Tips for Boudoir Photography in Hotels

I just got this question on an email and remembered that I have been meaning to write a post about this. And doing it before anything else distracts me.

The question was: have you done Boudoir Photography in a Hotel?

Why yes I have. And let me impart my wisdom. Note: with these tips, the photographer comes to you and you are in charge of booking and paying for the hotel. They do not apply for marathons where the photographer is booking several appointments at one tim :)

1. Look for hotels that are newish or have been recently renovated.
I was at the King Edward hotel in the renovated suites. Oh, my lordy. I wanted to move in. Clean colours with hints of red. And my dream headboard. So do check pictures of the hotels and make sure you confirm you are getting the new ones.

Nice hotels I have been in Toronto:

Close to the entertainment district for dinners:

Le Germaine - it has those blinds from the washroom I can shoot through, warm tones
The Ritz Carlton
Trump - it's so pretty! more of white and grey tones and cherry blossoms - not that I like Trump he has a nice hotel

Close to the Eton centre:
Cosmopolitan
Pantages
Cambridge suites (just went to this- pleasantly surprised! and economic)

2. Book for a Saturday or Sunday, book me 3 pm then enjoy the night.

I was told that Sundays to Monday you can get cheaper rates. If you can get in early that is great. I need to start your appointment at 3 so in winter I still have daylight.

3. Hide the alarm clock, phone, remote controls.

Even those water bottles in the night stand. I usually do a sweep to do that but if you do that ahead of time is great.

4. Contain your wardrobe to one area.

Usually the washroom works, unless you want to use it in pictures if the shower or bath is extra nice. But we usually do that until the end. We do not want to mess the makeup.
Even plan for a milk bath shot! You just need to buy a big jug of creamer.

5. Share the expense.

Maybe get a one or two friends to pitch in for the room and make it a girls night. Or surprise your other half by making plans for dinner (you come to the hotel early), so you can meet him after the shoot and stay over. Maybe even show him an outfit or two you got for the shoot.

So maybe even do a boudoir shoot for his birthday or anniversary, where you book the hotel and have the session, then surprise him with the printed book and he will be like: heeeeeeey, I know that place! And now you have a gift that makes them re-live the experience! I get bright ideas sometimes!

Book the Renaissance Toronto on a Blue Jay game!!! Have the session for you or both of you and then enjoy the game. :)

I can't believe I never wrote this blog post, in my ten years of blogging and boudoiring. (yes I am inventing that word)

What goes on a Boudoir Shoot?

Lot's of giggles that's for sure. And depends on the photographer but pretty much this is the drill:

Outfit selection

Most people come with more than it is needed, just in case - the extra pretty pink set, and the loose sexy underwear in the drawer. It goes on the bed, and we sort it, so I can plan your shoot:

"This outfit for the window, this one for the black background, this one for rolling around the bed and this one to take off".

Makeup

Now I get your butt in the makeup stool, depending on how much makeup you use on a day to day basis, we can go from natural: make your eyes pop - to glam smokey eye.

This will feel like a lot of makeup if you are not used to any, the thing is, photography makeup is more than the everyday stuff, we need to highlight your eyes as much as possible. And hopefully, it will bring out your inner stripper :)

Start

Now you got your full face on, we retouched the hair if needed, it is time show me the goodies! Kidding. We start we the most covered outfit, maybe even some headshots to easy you into the sexy part. And it is nice to have a PG photo for social media with all your makeup done anyway.

Session

Well, I won't reveal all my secrets, but there is a lot of instruction, showing you what to do first, showing you the basic poses and lot's of laughs. Because honestly, this is "the most ridiculous thing" you will ever do in front of a stranger. But the results are awesome! I do show you some photos along the way to show you what I am seeing. Most reactions are like: wow! I did not think I could pull this off!

Wrap up

I like to finish the sessions with a couple of shots between the sheets. To me, those are the most "real" and after tossing your hair and rolling around, you truly do look like you have been busy :)

And this is pretty much what happens in all the sessions at my place. You come in a little bit or a whole lot of nervous and that is perfectly normal. And then you forget you are prancing around in your underwear.

Boudoir: to spray tan or not to spray tan

Back in the day, the look of fake tans was so orange that I did not recommend it. Boy! Have the spray tans have come a long way!
I decided to test it out myself, being a spray tan virgin. I only did the self-tanner thing once with the orange palm result. And was forever traumatized.
So! Thanks to Jenn from schulzbeauty.ca I got to try it out.

FIRST let me give you the tips.

Schulz Beauty recommends:
1) shower and exfoliate really well before your appointment
2) after showering no moisturizers, perfumes, makeup (GASP!)
3) after the spray tan don't get wet/gym/sweat for 6-8 hours ( 8 hours for best results)!
4) after the spray tan no heavy exfoliation
and lots and lots of moisturizing to extend the life of your tan!

I followed it to the T, except the makeup, I wore my naked face but never without mascara. I figured that would not interfere and I look awake.

So I did my scrubbing and my shaving the night before, figuring too that the shaving of the winter fuzz would exfoliate a lot of it. I was a bit wrong.

And then the sweating part. I wear extra strength stuff, still some of my armpit area looked funny but nothing noticeable.

And here is what I recommend:

To go there: in the summer is easy to just plop on a dark summer dress and be loosey goosey but in the winter with the layers and all those skinny jeans it's so hard! I wore my sweat pants. And of course in that area where her place is located, everybody is so fancy you feel schlumpy. But with a great tan afterward. Bra is truly optional.

Wear: If you are comfortable wearing nothing, be naked. Or wear the tiniest G-string possible and go topless or with pasties. Jenn is cool, and the room is very private. Keep in mind that whatever you wear will leave the tan lines, so wear a bra top that looks like lingerie- like a strapless bra or a demi cup one.

I am sucking it in as much as I can.

Start exfoliating a week before your appointment daily. You can't believe the stuff that doesn't get scrubbed that often. Especially in the middle of winter. One spot I missed my inner arms and around my ankles. Yeah, they look clean, but the dead skin shows like dirty tan skin. So use a sugar or salt scrub a week before, and then keep rubbing stuff off during your showers. And the night before do the last one with the shaving.

Avoid white stuff. What I liked about it, it looks great right after the application, technically after you shower (min 3 hours) it sets you won't stain, so you can pretty much have a shoot the same day or the next. But 3-5 days is fine too. As long as you moisturize. Mine was still ok at day 9.

And Ta-Dah! That is right after the magic, and then it develops a deeper tone :) Not orange looking at all! It takes only 15 minutes!

I forgot to suck it in.

This is me and Lily- this is 3 days after the tan, no super white legs and smooth colour all over.

Tips: Chic for winter boudoir

When outside it's brrr, we can heat things up with your session! There is something really sexy about a lingerie item with a loose sweater and knee high socks. Or even a touque! Gives you that effortless sexy like: "oh why yes, I hang out at my house with matching lingerie sets and just a sweater because it is chilly" HA! Not like my batman pajamas. It is all an illusion.

We can always pretend is winter season, this tip is for all year round comfortable sexiness.
After you have taken some with the sweater, you can showcase your lingerie. A good place I have found to have a great variety is online store Adore me - besides my trusty Winners - at a great price, who doesn't want to shop online? That is how you found me :)

The main tips for cozy winter boudoir:
- Bring at least one lingerie matching set.
- A couple of sweaters, one could be off the shoulder and another one a cardigan type
- Knee high socks
- Touque or warm hats
- Plaid shirt
- Or the regular pajama pants and no top work too! (it's all an illusion :P)

Where the hell has time gone? No idea.

On a personal note:
This year I turn 40. And I don't feel like I am almost 40. I can still pass for, 34 I think, so I am not complaining, but I am really surprised that this is what 40 looks like to me. I still shop for my black t-shirts at forever 21. I still sound like I am 12. My favourite things have skulls or batman on them. I remember my parents at 40 and thinking, wow that is old.

Now, well yes, few (hundreds) more gray hairs, glasses, the (fl)abs and the botox in the near future. But my lifestyle is pretty much the same. So I have decided I need to make some changes. I want to turn 40 fit. And for someone that only runs to catch the bus and cycles to work only when the weather is between 15-35C with no wind, in a city where that only lasts 4 months, it is going to be a challenge.
Exercise is not my thing. If it is your thing I am jealous.

So I am writing this post to make myself accountable. I have a pin up photoshoot planned for June 1 ( http://www.marlenjames.com/cherry ) and I will take the last appointment of the day. I want to have an actual waist by then. Here I go.

Pictures that is. Or portraits I should say. For those of you who need reasons.
P.S. This is what I have seen so far and they are not in any preference and/or order.

You are still perky. Yes, you are not 20 anymore but they are still up, shoot them now!
It's on your bucket list. Besides, it is way more doable than "writing a novel" or "learn lambada" for some people.
It's your birthday. Or someone's birthday, valentine's or xmas!
You are single. And proud of it. Or you want to rub it into that ex-"how-dare-he-dump-me" how hot you look. Or you just want a naked picture of yourself to hang on your wall. Just change it for that Anne Geddes Pic of the babies when your parents come over. (or Tinder maybe?) HA
You are married. And proud of it. Hey, you've lasted this long, and everything you have taken is homemade and in your computer. Time to step it up a notch. Great anniversary gift for those hard to buy for guys.
You are about to get married. Air them out before the big day. Be proud of them. Lucky bastard.

I am a complete dork and my goal is to get awesome photos of you, I have no shame.
You will see me taking a photo while touching my boob so you do the same (you can't just grab it you have to cradle it and present it - it is a science)

I am harping now on the Hallmark holiday, which I am not the biggest fan of, but in the other hand for people on the fence about doing this, this date is the perfect excuse to get some sexy pictures done.
Just remember how the internet is saturated with naked stuff, so why not give your significant other his own private stash?
