Study Habits The Premed Student Must Have, To Guarantee Success In Medical School

There is never enough time in the day for a medical school student. Between time spent in class, studying, and fulfilling other obligations, the typical medic is always in a rush. Unfortunately, this often means that you can't spend as much time studying as you know you should. What to do If you hope to succeed academically with limited study time, you need to develop impeccable study skills to maximize the precious time you have to work with. Below are several critical skills you should develop and can actually start while in your undergraduate classes.

1. Take impeccable notes: Whether you think you need to take notes or not, you do. There is simply too much information being presented for you to keep everything straight without writing it down. But haphazardly taking notes won't cut it in med school either. Your notes need to be well organized and complete, so that when you're staring at your notebook, bleary eyed at midnight, it won't look like a wall of gibberish.

2. Repetition: You will spend many hours memorizing during medical school. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can commit anything to memory in one sitting. Plan your schedule so that you can spend several study sessions memorizing concepts and facts before you'll be tested on it. Work with a partner, create flash cards, or draw pictures to trigger your memory whatever works for you. The important thing is that you spend the necessary time memorizing and that you don't try to cram it all in during one sitting.

3. Avoid procrastination like the plague. Sure, procrastination won't kill you in high school. Procrastination might not have been a big deal while in college. But procrastination will simply not fly in medical school. There is too much information, too many details, to be crammed into your head at the last minute. And as a medic, you have too many responsibilities to get them all done just before the deadline. If you procrastinate, you won't get things done. You won't have enough time to study, you won't put in enough volunteer hours, and you won't fulfill your other obligations. Procrastination is fatal in medical school act accordingly.

4. Get help: If you're lost, ask for help Get in touch with other students or professors and ask them for help. It's not a sign of weakness it's a sign of sanity. It's unrealistic to think that you'll be able to figure out every concept in medical school on your own, so don't be too proud to ask for help. Forming a study group with other dedicated students is a great way to help each other out.

5. Don't overdo it: It's 2 AM, and you have an exam at 8 AM the next morning. You've spent much of the last week studying, but you're still confused about a couple of things. Your head is spinning and your vision is starting to blur. Does this scenario sound familiar. If you haven't experienced it yet, you will in medical school. The key is recognizing when to call it a night. It's tempting to neglect sleep, but it's a bad idea. A decent night's sleep will be more valuable than a few more hours of study time and who knows, by the time you wake up in the morning, confusing concepts may seem a bit more clear.

Medical school can be overwhelmingly difficult at times. Many students are frustrated and dismayed to learn that they literally do not have the time to study as much as theyd like so strong study skills, such as those we've covered above, are critical for your success.

Hi everyone how is the day? its was cool over here, i'm blogging in an awesome atmosphere, rare isnt it?
I was pondering on some issues some few hours ago on the aspect of Human developments you know the V.I.P stuff, i then recalled this words that i read from a book. In it was written that "What you are or do today is as a result of the knowledge you acquired yesterday".wow! that was the satisfying is'nt it?

I arrived at a conclusion that our mental and overall development or advancement, depends largely on what we spend our time on, now the question is; are you spending your time or investing it? It think the later option is favourable what do you think?

It is been said that Friends are people who share the same interest(s). This has clearly explained the fact that not everyone you relate with can be your friend.
If a student wants to become an Engineer, he can as well make friends with his fellow students who have the same dream of being an Engineer.
It is resonable to view any form of friendship as "Temporary" because you and your friends may not share the same interest forever.
Truly, Humans are the most inappropriate creatures to be trusted in keeping secrets. therefore, do not trust someone if you do not want to make a mess of that person and yourself.

Of course we can always trust God!

While making a review of past breakthroughs like the invention of Aircrafts, Television, Camera and the others, they all arive at the fact that "Nothing is Impossible".
For instance before the invention of the first airplane, who could imagine the possibility of having humans fly at great heights in the cause of transportation?. It took only men to redefine the situation!
Few years after invention, it no longer becomes a suprise to see someone on flight. When the so-called Impossibilities become Possible, the world adapts as if it never bore the tag; Impossible. Impossible thing are things not yet done not things that can never be done.

Do you think it will be out-of-place if everyone plants a tree or any green plant near their houses?
It is obvious that plants are very essential for Human survival. It is no more news that green plants produce the Oxygen we Humans take in for continous survival; yet most people embark on Deforestation as a daily activity.

Though Education is very important, i strongly believe that there is something unique each person can do; with or without Education.
It all depends on the individual, to discover his/her abilities then Education can be fully utilised.
It is more easier to acquire knowledge than to acquire Skill because Skill is not learned; it is in-built in a person.
Most people have wasted a very long time trying to do things other than what they have Skill for.

It is been said that some people Study to be Employed while others study to be Empowered.
Dr. Ben Carson had a Skill (good Hand-to-Eye Co-ordination) and that made him a unique Surgeon.
Have you wonder why a Lizard only attack a Cockroach only from its Head even if it has been chasing it from its abdomen? or was it taught Biology?

Perfection can only be earned by those who work in the factory of Continuos Practice.
Most people dont have time for practice yet they complain of their poor performances in various endeavours.
A student who always practice the act of solving mathematical problems can not be deprived from attaining a point of Perfection in Mathematics. Since Practice is interwoven with Patience, we should never try to Practice Without Patience!

Sometimes, i wonder why some Countries (especially in Africa) have Presidents or Government cos people seem to govern themselves without any reasonable influence from the so-called Government whose members are rich men who happen to be interested in politics even if they dont have any leadership knowledge. Imagine a country where the children of the President and other Government personalties are schooling in another Country.to such a Government,there will be no need for the development its educational sector Now what will happen if every other Country is doing the same? Whose School will they attend?

When a man will do any thing to be in power can't you see that he does need it for what it is meant for?

Does it mean that they are not aware of the effect of their acts on the future generation?

It is very obvious that Africa has no Science of their own. African scientist happen to be distributors of Western Science, they dont really do any thing different. They are just consumers of Western discoveries and theories without having any of their own. I feel the Continent is large enough to be Scientifically Independent. Dont you think there is a cause for concern or do you have a different view?

I came to understand that most people who ard not successful know what to do to be successful but are not ready to do those things. For example; Most students who are always getting poor grades are aware of the fact that, if quit watching Tv, and games and use those time to study they will perform better but how many of them are ready to do that?
