New Year’s resolutions are religiously made by anyone who considers himself a Serious Entrepreneur, right?

Check out the latest stats … 30% of all New Year’s resolutions are broken within the first week.

Not very encouraging, is it?

It’s been said that “an optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”

So, being the optimist, I contemplated some resolutions I could make for 2009…become an ace swimmer? Hmmm…not likely. Give up wine? And redefine life? Golf more? That sounds more like it. Take my business to the next level? You’ve got it!

SHOW ME HOW TO MAKE 2009 ROCK FOR MY BUSINESS!

After taking a 90-Day Challenge online marketing course for serious entrepreneurs early this year and saw the impact it made on my focus and mindset, I’ve decided to challenge myself. No one-week resolutions that by next year will be long forgotten. But 90 days to meet a list of goals I made for myself:

1. Make my time and money work for me. After experiencing tremendous growth this year, of which I’m very grateful, there’s no better time to hire some help than now. With the economy in the worst slump in decades, people are desperate for work. There are talented people waiting to be discovered. So I’m investing my money in people instead of “stuff.”

2. Conquer social media. As you all know, the internet marketing industry is not for the faint of heart. It takes time, dedication, and perseverance. Building relationships and trust is crucial. Knowing how to use and leverage PPC is a huge part of the online game; but if visitors to your sites don’t know or care who you are, you can kiss their business goodbye.

I’ve talked about using Web 2.0 and social media many times, and Twitter is the breakout star! It's going to be an important way to market and stay in touch with customers in the future.

Twitter is where the party is...

I've registered and am going to be using it to collaborate with others, start discussions, and get input...and I'd REALLY like it if you were connected to me.

3. Reexamine – Reflect – Reconstruct Constant evaluation of what is producing results and then processing that feedback is vital. If something isn't working, I need to make note of it and move on. There is something to be said for letting yourself "fail quickly" - this concept is really the key to success. As a serious entrepreneur, I need to continually remind myself and my team of what is working, fix what’s not, and to forget about the rest!

Asking “what’s next” will help you come up with new ideas, new niches, and new opportunities to make more money online!

Don't let fear of the recession guide your goal setting plans for 2009.

This is a major setback!

Fear is an emotional response, only good for short-term survival. When you're in "fight or flight" mode, you're not thinking clearly about the path you're running... You're just RUNNING! So your efforts lack strategy, planning, and insight.

Shopping on the internet is anticipated to hit a whopping $145.1 billion in the coming year, a significant 14% increase -- despite the recession!

Consumers will be spending more time at home, using their computers for everything from bargain hunting and product research to upgrading skills.

You could google the key words “work at home” and you will get 1.71 BILLION results! Researching all of those would literally take you months…or you could just read what I’ve learned after years of first-hand experience.

Tip #2: The Company

Network marketing companies are sprouting up all over the place, and there are just too many of them to keep up with. This makes the choice of which program to join a frustrating and time-consuming process. Yes, regrettably there are a few network marketing opportunities that are scams. Companies that sell the opportunity and don't have much of a product are teetering on the line between an MLM and a pyramid scheme.

Then, there are far more that may be well-intentioned but have a poor track record for any number of reasons. To separate the wheat from the chaff, ask yourself these questions:

1.How long has the company been in business?

Some network marketers choose to go with an established Network Marketing company that has been around a long time; but if it's more than 15 years old, you've probably missed most of its growth. Others may choose to go with a relatively new company with an established reputation. If you go with a new company, do as much background research as you can.

You must consider the reputation of the company you will be dealing with. Search the internet to see if the company has any lawsuits or outstanding complaints against it.

You want the efforts you put in today to pay off for many years in the future, so choose a company that has proven it will be around for the long term. 90% of all network marketing companies never see their 2nd anniversary. That’s HUGE! You don't want to invest your precious time and resources (not to mention your future) in something that may not be in business next month, do you?

2. Is the company well capitalized?

In other words, does it have the cash that it will need to grow, to maintain a solid infrastructure, to attract talented management, to keep pace with technology? And, of course, to pay your commissions!

As a rule of thumb, do not get involved with any network marketing company that does not show responsible financial stewardship. Most people don’t consider the financial status of the organization that they're thinking of joining before they join; they’re too busy thinking about the money that they can earn for themselves using the organization’s products and service and compensation plan.
When thinking so microscopically, take a step back and consider how the overall company is doing fiscally. A few things to examine financially when looking at top network marketing companies:
the company’s debt (ask)
the company’s credit rating (www.dnb.com)

3.Does the company have a vision?

Have you asked yourself why you want to enter the arena of direct sales? You should. Now ask the company you’re considering the same question. What drives their passion? Is giving back to the community part of their vision?

Examine the management team to see if it has a solid mix of successful entrepreneurs who've been involved in managing successful traditional and network marketing companies.

Do they have a plan for structure and growth over the next 3 to 10 years?
Are they constantly looking for ways to generate leads and traffic to your landing page?

Quite frankly, if they’re not, your business is going to suffer dramatically.
