My daughter really likes puzzles, and sometimes needs a little something different. On Crayola's website, they have a lot of coloring sheets and kids crafts ideas. I came across the puzzle sheet. They draw their own picture and make it their own puzzle. Obviously you can cut your own designs but I thought it was a really cute idea. They have several different ones. I helped Claire with this one.
You can find them here:
Crayola Puzzles
Hope your having a great week! Happy cold first day of Spring!

I've always loved couscous, but now that Aldi carries it I buy it all the time. All you have to do is boil water and then add the couscous and cover. 5 Minutes later, its ready! I also grilled up some chicken and sliced it to round out the meal.

It's high in fiber, whole grain, definitely a plus. You can add so many things to this. What would you add? Please stop by and leave me a comment!

I really like breakfast but I'm picky. Cereal doesn't cut it; I'd just rather not eat anything. This, however, hits the spot with Potato, Eggs, and Cheese. You could also add sausage or bacon if you like, I just didn't have any on hand. Super versatile recipe.

Ingredients:
4 Eggs
1 Cup Shredded cheese
3/4 Cup Milk
Salt
Pepper
10oz frozen tater tots

In and 8x8 pan, spray non stick spray. Turn oven to 350F degrees. Mix eggs and milk and add salt and pepper. Add cheese, stir and pour in pan. Add tater tots on top. Place into your oven for 45 minutes or until egg in the middle is cooked. Turned out really good, and I got last nights dishes done while it baked. My 2 yr old loved it too, which is a definite plus!

Hope you try it!

I just saw a recipe on for Pioneer Woman's Pork Chops and Pineapple Fried Rice. It looked amazing so I had to give it a try. I changed up my recipe a bit for what I had available to me. I've made it twice and here is another one I did without the peas. The sauce is the amazing part. I just love it.

I used boneless pork chops that I brined( water, salt, brown sugar) overnight. I put mine in a pan and brown each side and then put in the oven for 10 minutes at 425 F degrees. I then bake my rice in the oven for 45 minutes and let it cool while I made the egg and such of the fried rice. I used canned Pineapple and tossed it into the rice mix in the pan to heat it. The sauce is also done in a separte pan and then I pour it over the pork chops in a separate dish with a cover. BEST EVER. While I was posting this, I've just decided we are having this tonight as well.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Check out this healthier version of regular Rice Krispies. Great for a party!

Ingredients:
2 Cups Banana Nut Crunch
4 Cups Rice Krispies
1/4 Cup Raisins
10.5 oz bag of mini marshmallows
3 Tbsp Butter or margarine
Chocolate Sprinkles

Directions:
Melt butter and add marshmellows.
Melt on low to medium heat.
Once all melted turn off heat and add cereals and raisins and mix gently together.
Spray a spatula with non stick spray and also spray a 9" x 13" pan.
Put the mixture into the pan and flatten with the spatula.
Add Chocolate sprinkles and press again.
Let cool and cover with plastic wrap.
The raisins keep these from turning into rocks.
I love the banana taste!

My Mom gave me this recipe, and it is delicious! A great way to use Zucchini.

Ingredients:
1 Cup Shredded Zucchini
1/4 Cup chopped Onion
2 Large Eggs
Salt and pepper
1/4 Tsp Garlic Powder
1/4 Tsp Onion Powder
Cooking spray

Directions:
Coat frying pan with cooking spray.
Turn on medium heat.
Stir together all ingredients and add to the hot pan.
Cook for 3 minutes until it looks stable enough to flip.
Using your spatula, cut into 4 sections and flip over.
Cook an additional 2 minutes or until the egg is done.
Serve.

I also added a tbsp of mozzarella shredded cheese to my mixture. This is a very tasty breakfast, or in my case today, brunch.

I'm roasting a chicken today, one of my favorite things to do...any thoughts on great side dishes?

I was just thinking of these today, as Walmart is having a great sale on blueberries!

In this dish, the chicken really absorbs the lemon for a fresh taste in this pasta.

Ingredients:
8 oz Spaghetti
4-5 Pre cooked Chicken Tenderloins- Baked with salt and pepper
4 Tbsp Olive Oil
1/2 Tbsp Red Pepper flakes (or to taste)
1 Clove garlic, minced
1/4 Cup Lemon Juice
1/3 Cup of Grated Parmesan
Salt and Pepper

Directions:
Cook Spaghetti to package instructions and drain. Slice tenderloins thinly (is that a word?) at an angle. In a pan, add oil, red pepper flakes, and garlic. Saute for 2 minutes on medium-low. Add the pasta and chicken and mix. Add lemon juice and Parmesan and toss together. Season to taste with S + P.

I will slowly have more posts to come. This summer has brought a good "busy" to my life and I'm working on organizing everything into the schedule. I have many posts about ready to go, but priorities have put these aside for the last couple months. So please stay with me, I hope to have something to help or inspire you.
This is one of the fun skirts out there to make. I saw it on a blog and made one for my daughter.
A couple sheets of paper, a ruler and a calculator and you can make one sized for you.

You can find the tutorial here

You can get colored elastics at Joann fabrics, or dye your own with Rit Dye on white cotton blend elastic. The more cotton in the elastic, the better the dye will take.

This is a super cute skirt, no seams!
Things I love....I recently stumbled upon e.l.f. makeup at Target. Prices starting at $1 they have some great stuff. I tried the stick blush, a lipstick and a foundation brush. Wonderful! I love this company. They have so many options to try. They also have a $3 and $5 lines of products. I just recently got the $1 concealer, which worked great under my eyes and smelled nice too.

Suave Professionals sleek conditioner. Wow. At $1.78, I like this more than the $6 Loreal Sleek I was using. I wouldn't even have considered trying it, but at my last haircut, I was told this is better than most things out there, even Matrix. The lady at Hair Cuttery said they did a recent study/test on shampoos and conditioners. Pantene (which I was also using) and Head and Shoulders scored the lowest. She said that there was floor polish in H & S and Pantene was the worst for leaving a residue on your scalp and hair. What? I'm not saying that I'm not still going to use it, however I did come out on top money wise as Suave Professionals exceeded my expectations. I'm a believer.
Chicken is one of the most versatile meats out there. I'm always looking for new ways to serve it up.
Here's another I wanted to share with you.

Ingredients:
2 Chicken Breast, butterflied
3 Tbsps. Olive Oil
1 1/2 Tsps Garlic Powder
1/4 Cup Rice Vinegar
1 Tsp of dried Thyme
Dash of pepper & Salt
3/4 Cup Breadcrumbs (+ or -)
1 Egg, beaten

Directions:
In a resealable bag, combine 1 Tbsp Olive oil, garlic powder, rice vinegar, pepper, salt and thyme with the chicken.
Let marinate in the fridge for an hour.
Take out chicken, discard marinade.
Dip chicken pieces into egg then breadcrumbs (I made my own)
In a pan, add a couple of tbsps of oil and heat over medium.
Add chicken to the hot pan, turning halfway through cooking.
Let sit for 5 Minutes.
Slice at a diagonal and serve.
Full of flavor!
Fresh Spinach
Sliced Fresh Portabella
Leftover Beans
I've been meaning to catch you up on some of the projects my husband has been commissioned to do.

This was a nice rustic bench with painted black legs. His client had a general design in mind, and Andrew drew up this one. Beautiful. I love how he made it look old. I want one for our house!

This was almost a year ago already. I can't believe how time flies.

And she was so tiny, and look how sweet.
ahh...
I'll try to get more of them up here soon.

Breakfast tomorrow?

I have the luck of having red, yellow, and green peppers. I wanted to use them as a side, so I came up with this.
Ingredients:
1/2 Cup of each pepper, sliced into strips
1/4 Cup of Onion, sliced into strips
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
Dash of Salt
Fresh Ground pepper
1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
3 Tbsp Red Wine vinegar

Directions:
Saute the Peppers and onions in olive oil for 7-10 Minutes over medium heat.
Add seasonings, and stir around for another minute.
Turn off the heat and add the red wine vinegar.
That's it, your done. Serve it up. I had mine with Sausage and Rice and a slice of bread I toasted on one side with butter, garlic and basil. Wonderful!

Ahh...spring. I just love that smell of fresh air. I also love garden fresh vegetables. Obviously it's too early for vegetables in the back yard, but I made these green beans the other day, and they hit the spot.

Ingredients:
8 Oz Frozen Green beans
Bacon Drippings
3 Tsp Brown Sugar
Pinch of Salt

Directions:
Add frozen green beans to a tbsp or so of bacon drippings. Cover and let it heat up for 5 Minutes. Then add sugar and salt. Pepper is optional. Uncover and saute until cooked through.

Spring starts Tomorrow!
I've already been to a garage sale, I can't believe they were already ready. I got a purse for $1. Super cute. I went about transferring my things over, only to find 7 Pens & 3 Pencils, not to mention old receipts and bags of snacks for the little one. Anyone else collect so many of one thing? and not even know it?

Happy Spring to you!

Need a lunch idea?

I tried it, and it is an easy pattern. However I do wonder if it printed at 111% instead of 100%. She said there was an issue with it, and this fits my almost 2 year old perfect, even almost as a dress. Matched with some cute leggings this thing is super cute.

I used fabric I had on hand. I think I will make a pattern for a regular top without the pinafore back to save on fabric and extra long stitching.

You can find the pattern here.

Do you have a vice? or something you adore to do? If I had to name a couple, it would be cooking + sewing. I don't mind the dunkin donuts run either. That place just smells like happiness. You?

Ingredients:
4 Medium Potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 Tbsp Honey
Pepper, to taste
1 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
2 Tbsp Olive Oil

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 F Degrees. Mix honey, pepper, Dijon mustard and Olive oil in a bowl. Using a whisk works well. Then add potatoes and mix all together. Spray non stick spray on your baking pan, and add potatoes. Bake for 30-35 Minutes, until fork tender. We had it with fish sandwiches and corn. Very nice flavor.

Enjoy your weekend!

I saw a super cute tutorial on how to make this vest over here.

I used jean and some "pleather" I had in my fabric stash. This vest was easy to make and now I'm coming up with a girly version of my own. I didn't add any buttons to this one, but you can of course.

I think I'll be making another one, but with cotton fabric. It would definitely make the arm holes easier to do.

This one went to one of my nephews. Now I'm on to make a shirt for spring for my little one.

Lunch or dinner this weekend?

Beautiful Bacon, done the bak'in way. I just tried this yesterday, and I love it. I also reheated a piece in the microwave and it was good! I plan on making twice baked potatoes today, and wanted to have some of this for the topping.

Start with a cold oven. Spray baking pan with non stick spray, or if you choose to use a wire rack atop your pan, spray that. Place baking strips on pan and place in oven. Turn on to 400 degrees F and bake for 14-16 minutes. Keep an eye on it towards the end. Once cooked, take off pan immediately and place on paper towel. If you leave them on the pan they could overcook.

Now enjoy bacon anytime of the day!

Have leftover bacon? Make Sweet Bacon Peas!
St Paddy's Day is coming up and this could be a sweet way to give the gift of cookies.

For Valentine's Day, I made Snicker doodles and put them in this cute pack for my husband.

I used wax paper and fabric. I cut the wax paper to the size I wanted with my pinking shears. I then did the same with my fabric, just a shorter version so it would slip over top of the paper, and add some flair.

I sewed up each side and put one inside the other. Really fun and fast. I believe the blog Skip to my Lou gave me the idea for the wax paper.

So what's for dinner tonight?
We're having:
Baked Chicken, sliced over top the Pasta
Monterrey Jack Cheese Pasta (I'm using a recipe similar to this)
French Bread, sliced, buttered, and broiled
This creamed spinach is so tasty and comforting. I hope you'll try it.

8 oz of frozen spinach
2 Tbps Parmesan cheese
2 Tbps Flour
1 Cup Milk
2 Tbsp butter
Salt
pepper
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1/3 Cup Mozzarella Cheese

Defrost spinach and squeeze out as much water as you can. Heat a pan and add butter to melt. Once melted add the flour and stir to mix. Slowly add milk with a whisk watching for lumps. Once smooth, add spinach, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder. Warm up over medium heat. Add mozzarella cheese, stirring to melt. Serve.

This dish is always welcomed by me and is great for lunch the next day. I like to add a little Parmesan cheese to the top too.

Clothes with broken zippers. Annoying. I've had this skirt for over two years. I wore it once and the zipper wouldn't go back down...then I broke it. Should I rip out this one, and put in a normal one instead of an invisible? I would have to rip out a lot of seams just to get into it enough to put it in.

Less is more, and I had buttons that matched. So no $ required, I set out to fix it this way.

I sewed a zigzag stitch into a rectangle that would fit my buttons. I then used scissors and a seam ripper to open up the new holes.

I sewed my buttons on. Worked like a charm. You really only see one button when I'm wearing it, because of the sash.

Ready to Wear

I feel like I got something new and that ALWAYS feels good.
