9:15 am: Asian stock markets are mixed Friday after a U.S. vote on a health care bill was delayed, raising doubts among investors over whether President Donald Trump can push through his business friendly agenda.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.9 percent to 19,253.63 as buying picked up following recent losses. South Korea's Kospi dipped 0.4 percent to 2,164.96 while Hong Kong's Hang Seng slipped 0.1 percent to 24,293.67. The Shanghai Composite index in mainland China crept up 0.1 percent to 3,252.71. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 climbed 1.0 percent to 5,764.50.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 0.1 percent to 2,345.96. The Dow was steady at 20,656.58. The Nasdaq composite edged 0.1 percent lower to 5,817.69. The Russell 2000 index, which tracks smaller companies, gained 0.6 percent to 1,353.43.

Gap-up opening likely on positive cues from US

Indian equities markets are likely to open the session with a gap-up on Thursday on the back of overnight positive sentiment from the U.S market. The SGX Nifty, which was trading at 9,183, up by 73 points or 0.80 per cent, also signalled a gap-up opening.
Nifty50 needs to hold above the level of 9,120 to start a fresh upmove towards levels of 9,180-9,230, while on the downside, the level of 9,000 is likely to act as strong support.
Back home, after a splendid rally in the previous trading session, Indian markets opened the Wednesday trading session on a flat note and oscillated in a thin range for the entire trading session as investors and traders remained cautious ahead of the outcome of the US Federal Reserve’s monetary policy meeting.
According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India’s exports soared 17.48% to USD 24.5 billion in February, led by petroleum, engineering and chemicals.
The US stocks surged higher on Wednesday as the Federal Reserve raised interest rates. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 113 points to end at 20,950. The S&P 500 index rose 20 points to finish at 2,385. The Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 43 points to 5,900. The Fed increased its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, noting that headline inflation is moving close to its 2 per cent target. They did not flag any plan to accelerate the pace of monetary tightening, with the policy-setting committee echoing and Fed Chair Janet Yellen emphasising that the future rate increased would be ‘gradual’.
Asian stocks are trading mixed on Thursday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 shed 44 points, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng surged over 200 points and the Shanghai Composite gained 22 points.

NIFTY FUTURE TIPS | NEGATIVE OPENING LIKELY FOR THE MARKETS:-

Indian equities markets are likely to open lower on Monday, tracking negative leads from fellow Asian peers. The SGX Nifty, which was trading at 8,925, down by 45.50 points or 0.51 per cent, also signalled a negative opening.
The 8,970-9,000 zone is likely to remain a key resistance area in the short term for Nifty50. On the downside, immediate support is placed around the level of 8,880 and if this support is breached next major support is placed around the level of 8,820.
Back home, Nifty hit fresh 52-week high last Thursday (Feb. 23), but it closed off day’s high as profit booking emerged at higher levels. Indian markets started the session on a positive note and the momentum remained in favour of the bulls for the first half of the trading session, but in the second half, some volatility was witnessed and markets ended the session with marginal gains.
The Dow Industrial and S&P 500 finished at record levels on Friday as the Dow continued its streak of closing highs and daily gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 11.44 points to finish at 20,821.76. The S&P 500 Index closed up 3.53 points at a record 2,367.34. The Nasdaq Composite Index finished up 9.80 points at 5,845.31, just shy of a record.
On Monday, Asian shares started the new trading week on a negative note. Japan’s Index Nikkei 225 fell over 1 per cent as the yen strengthened for the fourth session. Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite lost 0.27 and 0.17 per cent, respectively.

NIFTY FUTURE TIPS |MARKETS MAY OPEN FLAT DESPITE POSITIVE CUES FROM GST COUNCIL MEET:-

Indian equities may witness a flat opening on Monday, tracking mixed cues from the Asian peers. Muted trend in the SGX Nifty, which was trading at 8,833.50, up by 9.50 points or 0.11 per cent, also indicated a flattish start for the Indian markets.
On the weekly charts, the Nifty50 Index formed the indecisive ‘Doji’ candle. In the earlier week too, a ‘Doji’ formation was observed, so a back-to-back formation of indecisive candles on the weekly chart indicates that the market lacks momentum for substantial up-move. Now, going forward, the level of 8700 is a crucial support level and, on the upside, the level of 8830 and 8890 are major roadblocks for the index.
The prospects of a roll-out of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) by July 1 brightened with the GST Council approving on Saturday a draft law that seeks to compensate states fully in case of revenue loss as a result of the tax reform.
Back home, Indian markets got off to a scintillating start courtesy HDFC Bank, as RBI removed it from FII purchase restriction. However, profit booking emerged at higher levels and the session ended off the day’s high.
The US stocks finished higher on Friday as the Dow Jones Industrial extended its streak of record closes to the seventh session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 4.28 points to finish at 20,624.05. The S&P 500 index edged up

3.94 points and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 23.68 points.
On Monday, Asian shares are trading on a mixed note; the Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell as much as 0.21 per cent, as a stronger yen hurt exporters by making goods produced in Japan more expensive overseas. Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite trading with gains of 0.55 and 0.45 per cent, respectively.

NIFTY FUTURE TIPS | ROBUST START LIKELY FOR THE MARKETS:-

Indian equities are poised to open higher on Friday, despite subdued cues from Asian peers. Bullish trend in the SGX Nifty, which was trading at 8,827.50, up by 39.50 points or 0.45 per cent, also signalled a robust start for the Indian markets.
The Nifty50 has formed a Bullish Harami candle on the daily time frame chart.
Now, going forward, immediate resistance for Nifty50 is placed at 8820-8830, and if it sustains over 8820-8830 levels, further rally towards level of 8890 is likely. On the other side, 8700-8710 is a strong support zone for Nifty50.
Back home, after witnessing a flattish start, markets consolidated in the initial hour of trade. Thereafter, the momentum shifted towards bulls and the session ended with gains of about half a per cent.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record high for sixth session in a row, while the broader market remained flat on weak energy and consumer discretionary shares. An announcement by President Donald Trump that a new health plan to replace the Affordable Care Act is likely by March ahead of his proposed tax reform also dampened sentiments. Investors had been bidding up stocks in expectation of Trump’s tax cuts, which are widely looked at as pro-business and supportive of the economy. The Dow Jones rose 8 points, while the S&P 500 fell 2 points and the Nasdaq Composite Index shed 4 points.
On Friday, Asian shares are trading on a mixed note as cues from Wall Street were not promising. Japan’s Index Nikkei 225 fell 106 points, Hang Seng gained 12 points and Shanghai Composite is trading flat with a single point gain.

Most active index call options on Wednesday to watch out for on Thursday

Nifty closed in red for second consecutive trading session at 8724.70 levels, down by 67.60 points or 0.77%; while Sensex closed at 28155.56 levels, lower by 183.75 points or 0.65% on Wednesday. There were 298 advances, 1361 declines and 73 unchanged stocks on NSE in Wednesday’s trading session.
Maximum open interest was seen at Nifty February 8800 CE and Nifty February 8500 PE. Nifty February 9000 CE witnessed addition of 8,09,550 contracts in its open interest; while Nifty February 8800 PE witnessed decline of 9,84,150 contracts in its open interest.

Emerging stocks inched to new 19-month highs on Tuesday and most currencies rose against the weaker dollar but the possibility of a March US rate rise and Chinese inflation at multi-year highs kept gains in check.

MSCI’s emerging equity index rose 0.2 percent, tracking world stocks higher, though markets remain wary before a testimony by U.S. Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen later in the day, in case she makes a case for a rate rise in March. (Reuters)

Emerging stocks inched to new 19-month highs on Tuesday and most currencies rose against the weaker dollar but the possibility of a March US rate rise and Chinese inflation at multi-year highs kept gains in check. The rouble enjoyed its fifth straight day of gains on the back of stable oil prices and a central bank that has signalled its intention of keeping interest rates high, while the dollar easing off three-week highs after the resignation of a key U.S. presidential adviser supported most emerging assets.
MSCI’s emerging equity index rose 0.2 percent, tracking world stocks higher, though markets remain wary before a testimony by U.S. Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen later in the day, in case she makes a case for a rate rise in March.
Gains were also capped by data showing Chinese consumer inflation quickening to the fastest pace since May 2014 while factory prices rose at the quickest rate since mid-2011. While this shows China is at no risk of a big slowdown, it will confirm Beijing’s recent shift to a tighter monetary policy stance.
Chinese stocks were flat on the day, both on the mainland and in Hong Kong.
“This (inflation data) is important in that it continues a trend we have seen and fits in with this global reflation theme. 2.5 percent is still short of the 3 percent target that the central bank has but if this trend continues, the central bank will have to consider tightening monetary policy,” said Jakob Christensen, chief emerging markets analyst at Danske Bank.
India’s wholesale prices also rose at the fastest pace in two-and-a-half years in January, reinforcing the central bank’s decision last week to move to a neutral policy stance as inflation risks grow.
The weak dollar boosted the rouble more than half a percnt to a new 19-month high while earlier in the day Asian currencies surged, led by the Korean won, which jumped more than 1 percent. The rand jumped around 1 percent.

The Turkish lira firmed 0.5 percent to a one-month high , helped also by data showing a smaller-than-forecast current account deficit in December.
Christensen said however that some of the improvement was down to seasonal factors and there was reason to believe recent lira weakness would not translate into a significant improvement in the deficit, which is considered Turkey’s Achilles heel.
“There are some structural factors we should keep in mind – one is the impact of the fear of terrorism on tourism, and trade with Russia is also slow to pick up,” he added.
In central Europe, stock markets fell and currencies were unchanged against the euro, with Warsaw stocks retreating from 17-month highs after Hungary and the Czech Republic reported lower-than-expected economic growth for the last quarter of 2016. Romania however posted above-forecast 4.7 percent growth.
Hungary also showed a rise in the annual inflation to 2.3 percent in January, above a 2 percent forecast. The data came after Czech and Polish figures earlier this week also showed a pick up in inflation.
The Serbian dinar was slightly firmer against the euro before a central bank meeting that is likely to keep interest rates steady.

CORPORATE NEWS:-
Motherson Sumi reported a 28.2% rise in Net Profit to Rs. 547.3 Cr in Q3, against Rs. 426.8 Cr in the corresponding quarter last year. Total Income increased by 12.5% to Rs. 10,796.9 Cr in Q3 against Rs. 9,598.4 Cr in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.
Hindalco reported a Net Profit of Rs. 320.6 Cr in Q3 against a loss of Rs. 32.8 Cr in the corresponding quarter last year. Total Income from Operations increased by 13.8% to Rs. 9,914.8 Cr in Q3, against Rs. 8,715.9 Cr in the corresponding quarter last year. Profits were driven by higher average realizations in copper and aluminum. Shares closed up 1.6%.
Britannia reported a 6.1% increase in Total Income to Rs. 2,355.3 Cr in Q3, against Rs. 2,219.6 Cr in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. Net Profit increased by 4.6% to Rs. 220.4 Cr in Q3, against Rs. 210.7 Cr in the corresponding quarter last year. Shares closed up 1%.
