Tiers of Joy

2010-11-01T11:51:00.009+00:00

It's a little early for letters to Santa but these gorgeous cake stands are definitely going to be featured in mine!

Me Auld China are a new Irish company who create cake stands from authentic vintage matching and mismatched crockery. They have great selection of 2 & 3 tiered cake stands of all shapes and sizes, with lots of beautiful vintage patterns from shabby chic to vintage elegance.

The cake stands are available for hire for special occasions such as weddings or parties. They even provide a plate pimping service to give your old plates a new lease of life!!

You can find Me Auld China at various markets around Dublin including Airfield, Dundrum on Saturday 30th and the Dublin flea on Sunday 31st October. Check out their website for more details.

Covet - Sanna Annukka Postcards

2010-06-14T14:56:00.008+01:00

I love Sanna Annukka's illustrations, but they have always been a bit too pricey for me to justify a purchase.

Happily this is not a problem with this new range of postcards by Sanna at nineteenseventythree at less than a euro each. Add to cart!

Best day ever - here's a little sneak peek.

I'll be back with some proper posts when I catch up with work and stop pausing to admire my wedding ring every five minutes.

Natural Gas Commercial

2010-03-31T11:35:00.006+01:00

Seeing as winter seems to be back here's a lovely cosy commercial for natural gas to warm you all up!

Directed by Olivier Babinet this little video visualises the warmth of natural gas by using stop motion to show how warmth spreads through the house as knitted wool.

PS- sorry for the lack of posts of late- wedding is just 7 weeks away so I've been a little distracted!

shoes of prey

2010-03-01T11:21:00.003+00:00

I just stumbled upon shoes of prey via casapinka. It's an Australian site that allows you to design your own shoes. I've been dreaming of yellow peep toe wedding shoes for months - aren't they lovely?

The Stones Speak

2010-02-18T13:28:00.008+00:00

The Stones Speak from Simon Wild on Vimeo.

I travelled around Iceland a few summers ago, and the dense silence in the countryside is something I will always remember.

This incredible silent animation by Simon Wild, inspired by the glacial lagoon of Jokulsarlon, makes me want to go back.

Helvetica Cookies.

2010-02-17T15:10:00.009+00:00

I'm doing hardcore lent this year. No cheese, no butter, no sweets, no cake, no chocolate, no alcohol.

15 hours in, it's going well - I'm drinking miso soup as I type this and feeling very virtuous indeed.

I'm already tempted by these though. Surely typographic cookies don't count?

Tea and Cake

2010-02-03T11:10:00.010+00:00

Situated in a delightful little courtyard behind the gorgeous paper shop Daintree, the Cake Cafe brings together two of my favourite things - gorgeous interiors and great food. With mismatched crockery, hot water bottles and the best beans on toast in town it's great spot for lunch and they also make their cafe available for gatherings on Saturday evenings with yummy bespoke menus.

They are currently selling these super cool Dublin-landmark tea-towels, designed by Niall Sweeney of Pony. You can buy them in the cafe or email thecakecafe@gmail.com

I think the forty foot diver is my favourite!

Animal Magic

2010-02-01T14:09:00.009+00:00

Help your little boy confront his demons by making sure he sees them first thing in the morning!

This beautifully screen printed Animal Magic wallpaper from PaperBoy uses light to show and hide the skeletons of family pets. It's slightly scary when the lights are on but the bones vanish at night when the lights go out.

Available from Garrendenny Lane Interiors.

The Birds

2010-01-29T11:39:00.008+00:00

As a wallpaper virgin I'm not sure I'd trust myself to put up this gorgeous photographic wallpaper from Trove. I fear some of the little birds might get their wings clipped, or attached to their beaks…..

Covet - Wall Letters

2010-01-25T10:40:00.006+00:00

A wonderfully messy table and a jumble of letters on the wall.
I think I might like these people.

I am looking for a selection of letters in different typefaces to put on the tables for the wedding instead of table numbers. Afterwards I plan on shamelessly copying the image above.

I've found some reasonably priced ones in the children’s section in Avoca - any tips from readers on where I could get others?

I was never one who believed that letters after your name mattered.
I think I may have changed my mind.

Image from my inspirations files - if anyone knows who I should credit please let me know.

Magnetic Personalities

2010-01-21T21:47:00.004+00:00

Hello everybody. Sorry for not posting for such a while, I've been preoccupied with wedding plans and conundrums - how long will it take the wedding bus to get from A to B in Saturday evening traffic? How long does a dress take to get to Ireland from China?

While I've been pouring over wedding blogs my own little account was starting to turn into Dust Covet Envy (hee hee!) but I saw these little guys and had to share....

The fridge-door-opening experience just got a lot cuter with these magnets from Jordan Grace Owen.

I think they might offer some witticism as I catch their eye en route to the fridge.
"Celery again? Girl, you're taking this wedding too seriously. Live a little. There's cake on the top shelf you know"

Lust : Julia Rothman

2009-12-02T12:27:00.007+00:00

This is the start of a sometimes series of gift ideas as you all start to peel off the days on your advent calendars.

Some of you may know Julia Rothman for her wallpaper designs but thankfully she also has more portable illustrations. I particularly love this travel journal - to me it evokes a sort of mythical Victorian past where brave ladies in enormous skirts travelled the world teaching crochet to crocodiles.
