OUR WEDDING VIDEO

2014-02-13T18:19:00.001-07:00

It's here! It's finally here. I am so happy to finally get our video and be able to post it. Nate Pickett Films did such a great job and was so easy to work with. He has such awesome creativity in his videos and adds a unique touch. It is a 10 min video split into 3 sections, the first is a short of the day, the second is just the temple and the last is the reception. It was so much fun, every time I watch it I cry. I love my husby so much, he was the best decision I ever made:) I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

MY NEW CARDS: SNEAK PEAK

2014-01-30T22:20:00.001-07:00

So I have been a terrible blogger because I am trying to redesign my entire blog and portfolio and its consuming my life! I have also been doing a ton of freelance and I am really excited to post all of my new stuff. Its a big variety but that is what is so fun about it.

I have decided to do a bunch of everyday cards and tags to sell on etsy. I have been noticing the current trends and am incorporating my observations into some of my designs. Tropical, being one of them. I am using a pineapple for some of my main designs. Here is a little sneak.

DATE NIGHT

2014-01-12T12:39:00.001-07:00

So I am recently in a bunco group with a bunch of my friends and this month I was the host. My theme for the prizes is Date Night, which is a bunch of gift cards to different places for the girls to go on a fun date with their men. Since the packaging would be quite small and not too exciting I wanted to brand a little tag for them so it would feel more special than just a gift card. I designed these little date cards with all different types of people for all different types of dates. I wanted it to be really cute and modern with a bit sexiness. 60's inspired and of course Marilyn Monroe beauty marks made for the fine details. Enjoy!

My photographer Alixann Loosle did such a great job. Several of my friends appear in the magazine as well. I guess thats what happens when you live in Utah Valley;) Here is the Digital Version for you to look at. Hope you like it!

JENNY & GONZALO

2014-01-01T21:36:00.000-07:00

My lifelong best friend got married this fall and I am so grateful I was able to help with her wedding. The story is a sweet and complicated one. She went on her mission to Chile and her Stake President knew she was the one for his son who was not in Chile at the time so they never had the chance to meet. When she returned to Utah he returned to Chile and only a few weeks later she went back with her family. They finally met and his Dad was right. Love at first sight. He moved here and learned English and the rest is history. It was such a fun wedding with mixed cultures and a lot of Spanish speaking. Luckily everyone in her family speaks spanish from their missions or taking it in school. The perfect edition. He is such a kind and loving person that I couldn't be more happy for her.

For her invitation (which there aren't really any good pictures of) she went all out. Lace and diamond studded buttons with gold paper and the elegance of a queen. She loved them and so did I. Her wedding was so much fun. Her brothers did a dance that was to die for and although it rained the entire day, the reception turned out quite beautiful in the chapel. All is well when love is in there air. The photography was done by Shaylee Burr Photography.

SAY SOMETHING PIANO MUSIC

2013-12-30T08:37:00.000-07:00

Lets be honest, who isn't obsessed with the new song by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilara called
SAY SOMETHING. Well I sure am and over the Christmas Break I found a free download of the piano music.
It is very simple and easy to learn. Enjoy!

FAMOUS MORMONS 2013

2013-12-27T17:34:00.000-07:00

I love lists and I thought I would make a list of mormons in the media this year. There is something about seeing other members of the LDS church that makes me so proud. When I see talents being shared and overall good behavior I just
know that these people are doing their best to show the world what we stand for. Mormonism is truly the best thing that
has happened to me. I have a happy life, a good family that loves and appreciates me and a husband who is loyal and hard working. He understands the value of being the best he can be and helping others see it in themselves. Although no one is perfect I am proud of my fellow mormons who have received a few minutes of fame this year. Happy 2013!

1. MITT ROMNEY
Well I don't know if I need to make introductions to Mitt Romney but although he lost the election for President of the USA, he has still maintained class. A new documentary about him is coming out next month and it intimately shows the campaign from his perspective. I am very excited for this.

2. STEPHENIE MEYER
Famous for her twilight series, she didn't end her glory days with vampires and werewolves. Austenland, one of my favourite movies of the year was produced by her. It is clean and very funny and ties back to the 19th century (Jane Austen world).

3. BEYOND 5
So all the little girls in church were talking about this new mormon boy band and of course I had to check it out. I was pretty imppressed. Its cool to see a couple guys from your own back yard make the next NSYNC haha. They are available on itunes and spotify. My favourite song is called Runaway Heart which is equal to a Selena Gomez or The wanted type song.

4. MIDAS WHALE
A mormon band that made it through several rounds on the famous television show The Voice. They are a folk type band with a ton of character and seem to be doing rather well.

5. CORBIN ALLRED
He has been in a number of little mormon movies but I think his most popular hit came out this year in The Saratov Approach. The film is about two mormon missionaries who were kidnapped in Russia in the 90's and held for ransom.
It got a pretty decent rating and I think I will have to see it!

PINSPIRATION

2013-12-19T22:43:00.002-07:00

I love inspiration! Its all I look at all day long so I thought I would share some of what inspires me with you. I am calling these posts Pinspiration ( like Jessica Hische) all pulled from interest and designspiration. I am liking orange lately with bold outlines and pattern of course. I am learning so much working at American Crafts about type, pattern and color palettes. I thought this mix was fun because it has tons of modern with a vintage touch. The colors work really well together and aren't Halloweenie if that is a word. Enjoy!

FAMILY PROCLAMATION

2013-12-18T21:16:00.003-07:00

Well my sweet sister-in-law requested The Proclamation to the World designed in a shabby chic/vintage, vintage look for her Christmas present this year. I had previously designed a very simple version and doing a more type heavy version was a good challenge. I made a few headers but I am still trying to figure out which is best for her. I went a lot more toward the vintage look and less shabby chic. Holla at the one you like best!

THE CHRISTMAS PICKLE

2013-12-14T08:27:00.000-07:00

Well for work we had to design a christmas ornament so I though I would do something traditional and a bit quirky. I chose the christmas pickle. It is supposedly a German tradition that you hide a glass pickle in your tree and whoever finds it the next morning gets an extra gift. I wanted to do some really clean rounded branding for it. Outlines and simple black and white. It ended up looking a bit more indian but I loved it. I used the free font Blanch from Losttype. I bought the pickle at target and made the packaging so if you wish to start this tradition its easy to get ahold of the pickle.

A PURPLE WEDDING: Erica & Grant

2013-12-11T18:38:00.000-07:00

I never think of using the color purple for weddings but recently I have done some purple themed weddings. Its funny how colors go in and out and purple is all the rage right now and it just so happens to be the color of the year for 2014. My sisters favorite color is purple and so it was fun for me to try new things. I did a watercolor purple invitation for her which is now available on my etsy shop. Here are some of the fun highlights including a chalkboard signs, flower arrangements and any printed pieces I did for this wedding. It was beautiful and exactly what she wanted so that made me happy. I just love love. Photography done by Shaylee Burr Photography

HAT SEASON

2013-12-09T19:13:00.000-07:00

01 / 02 / 03 / 04 / 05

I'm not much of a hat girl but the other day I decided to try on a ton of hats and I actually liked all of them. My husband really wanted me to buy a floppy beanie hat and then I tried on a russian fur hat and a flat black and ended up buying all of them. They are really fun and so warm for this terribly cold winter. I found these really cute quality hats for pretty good prices, hope you enjoy!

WE ARE IN LOVE

2013-12-06T22:16:00.000-07:00

In this holiday time I get so giddy and sentimental and this year I get to spend it with my babes. I seriously love him so much and am so grateful for him. I heard a song called We Are In Love by Cider Sky and it inspired me to do some loving type. I started a new job and I am really trying to excel in my typography and illustration skills. I have SO much to learn but it is so fun to see the talent all around me. Someday I will really be able to design something amazing. Until then, practice, practice, practice.

GOLDEN GIRL

2013-12-03T18:55:00.001-07:00

I am OBESSED with gold. Its a known fact to everyone who knows me. I go shopping for clothes, what's the first thing that catches my eye…gold. Interior design…gold, pinterest, well take a look at my boards...gold. So I thought I would make a pretty mood board of beautiful gold things that catch my eye. The best part is that it's the perfect time to wear gold and decorate a tree of gold and paint your nails gold. Enjoy the golden life this december.

MY CREATIVE SPACE

2013-12-02T21:38:00.000-07:00

I have realized over the years that having a "creative space" is very important for me to be inspired. I need things that interest me, that are colorful and accessible for me to get things out fast. I am also a very clean simple designer and I like simple beauty so not having a ton of clutter is a big deal.

Being creative has always been something that gives me passion for life. In any aspect of it whether it's problem solving, fashion, finding new ways of doing old things and especially trying to help people see their own talents. The most frustrating thing to me is when I see great potential in someone and they don't see it themselves. I think everyone has this problem in some part of their life but the best thing is that believing in yourself and knowing that God has given you, individually, special talents and gifts and finding a way to pursue them will help you feel fulfilled. Whatever you have to do, and wherever you can find your creative space, it's is worth it.

THE PARADISE

2013-11-29T08:41:00.000-07:00

I am obsessed with anything BBC and so is my Aunt Suze. She recently introduced me to a new show that I feel guilty saying but its better than Downton, (well at least the third season). It is called THE PARADISE. It is about the first department store in England in the art nouveau fashion. There are many similarities to Downton but a shopping and business forward element added in which is so fun. Only one season is out but I think they are doing the second in Europe right now which is so exciting. I strongly recommend the show if you like period pieces. Denise and Mr. Moray are two of the most perfectly casted people. I love it!

I decided to design a book cover for the show to be more of a traditional medium in the style of the period. I wanted it to be very intricate but still look modern and fun. I sketched it up real quick so I could visualize what I wanted, I am really trying to implement this process in my work because it saves so much time in the exploration. My inspiration was from custom book covers by penguin classics and Jessica Hische. Let me know what you think.

SPACEY FASHION

2013-11-26T18:35:00.000-07:00

I loooove space, the moon and everything about it. Space is so mysterious to me all the constellations and the stories made up about them. I just saw GRAVITY, which was terrifying but it was still so beautiful. There is magic in the endlessness of it all and so when I saw all of these outrageous space fashioned items I had to do a post on it. Check em out and see if you like anything. All the designs are from SHADOWPLAY.
