If you like mushrooms, you will love our dish recipe today! It is simple and very easy and inexpensive to make. We are simply sautéing mushrooms! Sautéing mushrooms allows the mushroom's natural flavor to shine and they can be a great addition to various dishes. This is so versatile you can add any type of protein or vegetables that you'd like, whether it's pork, chicken, beef, or seafood, and whether it's broccoli or green beans, you name it! Additionally, the technique of sautéing helps to cook the mushrooms quickly, making them tender and juicy. Some people also enjoy adding seasonings to enhance the flavor.

And to give the dish a twist. We will be adding caramelized onions to add a little bit of sweetness and complexity to the dish!

Ingredients;

3 cups (300 g) baby button mushrooms

1 medium onion, sliced

1 clove garlic, chopped

2 tbsp olive oil

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Fresh parsley(Optional)

Seasonings(Optional: Soy/Oyster Sauce)

To cook stir-sauteed mushrooms with caramelized onions:

Slice mushrooms and onions.

Heat a large pan over medium-high heat with oil.

Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized (brown and slightly soft), about 10 minutes.

Remove onions from the pan and set aside.

In the same pan, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add caramelized onions back to the pan and mix with mushrooms.

Season with salt, pepper, or any other desired seasonings(like oyster sauce or soy sauce)

Serve hot as a side dish or add protein (chicken, beef, tofu, etc.) to make it a main dish.

And there you have it! Today, I will share with you a very convenient home appliance that will save you time from cooking fried dishes. An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that uses hot air to fry food, typically with little or no oil. The food is placed in a basket or tray and is heated by a heating element and a fan, which blows the hot air around the food. This creates a crispy, fried texture similar to deep-frying but with less oil and fat. Air fryers can be used to cook a wide variety of foods, including chicken, fish, vegetables, and of course French Fries which I love!

Air frying is generally considered to be a healthier alternative to traditional deep-frying. Because food is cooked in hot air instead of oil, it absorbs less oil and fat. This can result in fewer calories and less saturated fat in the finished dish. Additionally, because the food is not submerged in oil, it can have a crispy texture similar to deep-fried food without the added fat. However, it's important to note that if you are adding oil or butter to the food before air frying, it will still add calories and fat to the final dish. Also, it's not just about the oil or fat, it's also about the food you are cooking, and how often you consume it. Eating fried foods in moderation, regardless of the cooking method, is still recommended for a healthy diet.

Here are the things to consider to get a great air fryer:

Capacity: Consider how much food you typically cook at once, and choose an air fryer with a basket or tray that can accommodate your own or your family's needs.

Temperature and Timer control: Look for an air fryer with precise temperature and timer controls, which will allow you to cook your food more accurately and efficiently. High-end air fryers even have apps for your mobile devices for them to control easily.

Size and design: Make sure to measure the space in your kitchen where you plan to keep the air fryer and choose a size and design that will fit well in that area. You wouldn't want a colored air fryer in your monochromatic-styled kitchen, right?

Brand and quality: Research different brands and read reviews to get an idea of the quality and performance of different models. Look for models with a good reputation for performance and durability.

Additional features: Some air fryers come with additional features like a built-in dehydrator or rotisserie, which can be useful for certain types of cooking.

Price: Air fryers come in a wide range of prices, so consider how much you are willing to spend and how much you are going to use it, and find the best option that meets your needs and budget.

Cleaning: Look for models with dishwasher-safe parts for easy cleaning, also check if the accessories are easy to clean and if the fryer has a non-stick coating, which can make cleaning easier.

Why is important to Clean, Care and Maintain Air Fryers?

To ensure that your air fryer continues to perform at its best and ensure the quality and safety of your food, it's essential to maintain and clean it properly.

First and foremost, it's important to clean the basket or tray after every use. Food debris and oil buildup can harbor bacteria and other harmful microorganisms, which can be harmful if not properly cleaned. To clean the basket or tray, remove any food debris and wash it with warm soapy water or place it in the dishwasher.

In addition to cleaning the basket or tray, it's also important to wipe down the exterior of the air fryer with a damp cloth to remove any food or oil splatters. The heating element and fan should also be cleaned occasionally to prevent buildup. Refer to the user manual for specific instructions on how to clean these parts.

It's also important to avoid overcrowding the basket to ensure even cooking and make cleaning easier. And avoid using abrasive materials or metal utensils, as they can scratch the non-stick coating of the air fryer basket.

Regular cleaning and maintenance not only ensure food safety but also improves the performance of your air fryer. A dirty air fryer may not perform as well as a clean one, as food debris and oil buildup can clog the heating element and fan, reducing the airflow and causing uneven cooking. Additionally, regular cleaning can help extend the life of your air fryer by preventing damage to the heating element and fan, as well as the non-stick coating on the basket or tray.

Finally, regular cleaning and maintenance can also improve the taste and quality of the food you cook. Food debris and old oil can give off an unpleasant smell and taste, affecting the overall taste of the food you cook. A clean air fryer is also easier to use and you will have a better experience with cooking, food doesn't stick as much, and it's easier to take out the food when it's done.

In conclusion, maintaining and cleaning your air fryer is essential to ensure food safety, performance, longevity, taste, quality, and ease of use. It's a small effort to make to ensure that your air fryer continues to perform at its best and to have a better cooking experience.

How to Make Gardenia Tea | One of the Healthiest Tea

Hi Foodies! If you are on a tight budget and looking for a healthy dish. This one is for you! Our main ingredient is Water spinach, also known as kangkong or ong choy, which is a common vegetable in Southeast Asian cuisine and is often considered a "food for the poor" because it is relatively inexpensive and easily accessible, particularly in rural areas.

But don't underestimate it! The plant is known for its ability to grow in flooded or waterlogged conditions, making it well-suited to cultivation in low-lying areas and along riverbanks. Additionally, water spinach is highly productive, with a single plant capable of producing a large number of greens.

This allows farmers to grow a significant amount of food on a small plot of land. As a result, it is a popular crop among low-income farmers, who can grow it as a source of food for their families and sell it at the market. Today, I will share a food recipe that you may find exotic! Today, I cooked Dinakdakan! It is a traditional Ilocano dish from the Philippines. It is made from grilled pig's ears and cheeks, yup, you've read it right, the main ingredient is the pig's face that we usually call "maskara".

It is mixed with onions, chili, and other spices. The meat is then sliced and formed into small balls or bite-sized pieces before being grilled. It is typically served as an appetizer or a main dish and is often paired with rice and other vegetables. And to add a creamy and tangy twist, this recipe includes the addition of mayonnaise, which creates a unique and delicious combination of flavors.

Here's how the dish came together:

1 lb pig's ears and cheeks, cleaned and sliced

1 onion, finely chopped

2 chili peppers, sliced

2 cloves of garlic, minced

2 tbsp fish sauce (patis)

1/4 cup mayonnaise

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

I grilled the pig's ears and cheeks until tender and slightly charred. A little char is important as it gives flavor!

Let it cool and then finely chop it.

I combined the grilled pig's ears and cheeks, onion, chili peppers, garlic, fish sauce, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl.

Mixed well and I adjusted the seasoning to taste.

I served it on a plate and garnished it with green onions and chili peppers.

Enjoy your Dinakdakan with mayonnaise!

This is a simple recipe to follow, feel free to adjust the ingredients depending on your preference. And you can also serve it with steamed rice or put it in a sandwich. I hope it makes inspires you to try the dish! Happy Cooking friends!

How to Cook Garlic Shrimp with Salted Egg

Hi Foodies, today I am going to share with you how I cooked Garlic Shrimp with Salted Egg, a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. Facts about Tinolang Manok:
Tinola is a ginger and onion based soup with chicken as the usual main ingredient. Chicken tinola is an authentic Filipino main dish and best complimented with green papaya wedges (an alternative is chayote) and chili pepper leaves. As a traditional dish, the chicken is usually cooked in low heat for quite some time to bring out the natural flavor. This dish is best served during cold and rainy weather because of the warming effect of the soup. Of course, this dish is perfect when paired with white rice. I usually have rice if I am eating this for lunch, but will just have the soup and meat for dinner.

Save yourself money and time! Instead going to Starbucks or any coffee
shop, why not make yourself your own "Starbucks" Mocha Frappuccino.

Ingredients

2 shots espresso, chilled (or 80ml strongly brewed coffee)
    ⅓ cup milk (80ml)
    1 tablespoon granulated sugar (8.3g)
    1 cup ice cubes, large
    2 tablespoons chocolate syrup (30ml)
To serve: Whipped cream, Chocolate syrup

Instructions

In a blender, add 1 cup of ice cubes, and add ⅓ cup of chilled espresso. Today I used Nespresso Roma capsules but strongly brewed coffee works as well. Just make sure your coffee is chilled.
Add in ⅓ cup of milk (any milk you want: full-fat, low-fat, soy milk, etc), 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup.
Blend for about 30 seconds, or until smooth.
Microwave Microwaves are a form of energy similar to radio and TV waves. A magnet tube inside the oven changes electricity into microwaves. The waves are spread through the oven by a fan. The interior of the oven is metal, so the microwaves bounce off it and cook the food from all sides. Cook- ware for use in microwave ovens is made from glass, plastic, paper, or ceramic, as microwaves can pass through them to the food. Microwave ovens cook by acting on the fat, water, and sugar molecules in
the food, making them vibrate at great speeds. This movement creates
friction, which causes heat. The heat cooks the food. The micro- waves
enter the food to about a depth of 1.3 to 3.8 centimeters (1/2 to 1 1/2
inches). After this, the heat is conducted throughout the food.
Microwaves use radio waves at a frequency of 2,500 mega hertz (MHz)
which are then absorbed by water, fats or sugars and converted directly
into atomic motion – or heat. Micro waves are not absorbed by most
plastics, glass or ceramics but they are reflected by metal, so never
put any metal pans or utensils in a microwave.

Features to Consider

Microwaves vary considerably in price, but this is not just dependent on their power or size. Consider what type of cooking you do, and how you store your food: if you use your freezer a lot, then a good defrosting feature may be important. Other features can include settings for jacket potatoes or pizza.

Accessories
Consider buying microwave-safe trays, dishes or steamers – even an egg poacher – to give you more cooking versatility.

Automatic cooking and defrosting
The microwave considers the actual weight of the food, and works out the time needed to cook the food safely. A defrost setting that reduces the amount of microwave energy so food can defrost without cooking.

Chaos defrost
Uses random pulses of microwave energy to reduce the usual defrosting time even more.

Child lock
Prevents little fingers accidentally starting a program or interfering with the cooking.

Control panel
Dials ensure smooth and easy operation, allowing you to alter settings without interrupting the cooking. Exact timings are best set by touch and electronic buttons. Timers is the simple dial or digital type, or the touch control panel.

Drop-down door
This makes putting in and taking out food easier, and it makes a handy place to rest your hot dishes on.

Linings
Microwave ovens are much easier to clean than conventional ones. Top models also feature catalytic or pyrolytic liners, which are self-cleaning, so there’s never any build up of food or grease.

Multiple-sequence cooking
This automatically changes the power levels during cooking, ensuring the best cooking time; for example, first defrosting, then cooking the food.

Power
Microwave power is measured in watts, ranging from 800W to 1100W. The higher the wattage, the quicker your food will cook. Variable power levels that control the range of microwave power from high to low(similar to the heat settings on a range), as some foods cook better on less than full power.

Preset programs
Some models have Preset programs; for example, from cooking popular foods to reheating and defrosting, taking the guesswork out of cooking.

Sensor cooking
The microwave automatically detects moisture in the food and the oven’s humidity, and then adjusts the power levels and cooking time accordingly, for the best results.

Size
Capacities vary from about 17L to over 32L. If you’re after a family-size microwave, consider at least a 27L size. This will have a larger turntable and extra interior height for more than one dish. Larger interiors, or an added rack for more cooking space.

Turbo reheat
An added boost of power: great for reheating soups or baked beans!

Use, Care and Tips

Never operate the oven if anything is caught in the door doesn't close properly, or if the door, hinge, latch, or seal is damage

Have the oven adjusted or repaired only by a qualified service person.

Keep the oven clean by wiping it out with a paper tower or cleaning
it with sudsy warm water and a soft cloth. Always remove any grease or
food from the door seal.

Do not use abrasive cleaners, as this may damage oven surfaces. Remove oven soil by wiping out the oven with a baking soda.

Use only microwave-safe containers or tableware. Ceramics, glassware and some plastics are fine but don’t use anything with a metal trim.

Never use any metal containers or objects - even twist-ties, as they have metal in them. If in doubt, consult the manufacturer’s directions.

Leave any covered food vented when cooking it, so the steam can escape.

When cooking large amounts, stir the food halfway through the cooking time: this will help to reduce any possible ‘cold spots’.

Leave the food to stand for 2 minutes once it’s cooked, as the heat will continue to spread through the food.

Be careful when taking food out: although the container may not be that hot, the food inside will be.

Keep your microwave clean, as a dirty oven will cook more slowly and unevenly. Avoid using scouring pads, steel wool or other abrasives.

Don't press Start on your microwave when it's empty, as the microwaves will bounce off the interior walls and could cause damage.

You can’t use microwave ovens for sterilising baby bottles or other food utensils.

Check with your doctor if you have a pacemaker. Modern pacemakers are protected against interference, but some older ones may still be adversely affected by proximity to a microwave oven.

Microwave ovens are a fast and convenient way to cook. Foods cook up to four times faster than on a conventional range. The ovens can also use up to 75 percent less energy than conventional cooking. These savings vary, depending on the cooking method you compare it to, and the quantity and types of food used. Microwaves are most efficient for smaller amounts of food or for recipes that serve from four to six people. The more food put in a microwave oven, the longer the cooking time will be. Microwave cooking is cool, because there is no direct source of heat.

Unlike conventional ovens, in which heat is conducted from the outside of the food towards the center, the microwave’s radio waves ‘excite’ the water and fat molecules evenly, throughout the food. And because only the food is heated, and not the oven itself, microwave ovens are more efficient.

One disadvantage, however, is that the air in the oven is at room temperature, so no crust will form on the food; unless you choose a microwave with a grill.

All microwave ovens sold in the United States must meet strict safety standards set by the federal government. The ovens must have special door seals and locks to prevent leakage of the microwaves and to prevent the oven from operating with the door open.

Most of the microwave ovens currently being sold are portable counter—top models. Most of these are rated between 600 and 700 watts. Units with lower wattage cook more slowly. Other styles include a micro— wave oven as part of a double-oven range; combination ranges, in which food is either cooked with microwaves, cooked conventionally, or cooked with the two systems at the same time in one oven; a combination range with microwave and convection cooking; wall ovens and built-ins.

Did you know that bread was originally flat? It was made with flour and water, then set out on a stone to bake in the sun. The discovery of yeast was an accident. Wild yeast carried by the wind fell on some dough and made it rise.

Today, there are many different kinds of yeast breads that you can either buy or bake at home. Bread in its varied flavors and shapes can add interest and valuable. nutrients to your meals.

Bagel

This yeast bread takes its name from its shape. Bagel is a Yiddish word meaning ring or bracelet. A bagel is hard and glazed on the outside, with a tough, chewy texture inside. It is made of wheat flour (sometimes in combination with other flours) and water. Some recipes also use eggs and onions. The dough is cut into shaped, dropped briefly into water that is almost boiling, and then baked. Bagels are often eaten with cream cheese as a breakfast or brunch food.

Babka

Babka is a Polish coffee cake. This yeast bread is flavored with orange rind, raisins, almonds, and dried citrus fruits. It is usually a high, cake shaped bread with a hole in the center. A thin icing is put on when it comes from the oven. Babka is the Polish word for "little old woman"

Pita Bread

Pita bread is a kind of flat bread. It was first made by mixing grain meal with water. The dough was baked on heated rocks. Pita bread, common in the Middle East, is made from durum wheat with little or no leavening. It is a very thin bread which is sometimes use as an eating utensil to scoop up other foods. It can also be stuffed with a filling and eaten like a sandwich.

Swedish Rye

Swedish rye is also called limpa. It contains the dark flour that comes from the rye plant, mixed with wheat flour. This crusty, chewy yeast bread includes molasses and brown sugar and several flavorings. The most common additions to Swedish rye are grated orange peel, caraway seeds, anise seeds, and raisins.
Tuna is so easily available in canned form that people in many parts of the United States have never tasted fresh tuna. Different varieties are caught off the Pacific coast and off the coast of Florida. Fresh tuna can be baked or broiled with a variety of sauces or eaten raw in Japanese sushi or sashimi. Because of tuna's low calorie and no fat, its perfect for low fat and low calorie diet as a sandwich filling.

Ingredients

196 (7 ounce) can tuna

60 ml (1/4 cup) celery, finely chopped

60 ml (1/4 cup) onion, finely chopped

60 ml (1/4 cup) salad dressing, mayonnaise-type

12 slices bread, dry

2 eggs, beaten

80 ml (1/3 cup) milk

2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) vanilla

30 ml (2 tablespoons) oil or fat

No single food is as widely known around the world as milk. In the United States, people consume more milk than any other beverage except water. One important reason for this is that milk is a leading source of many nutrients. Milk is also used as basic ingredient in many other foods and recipes, from soups to desserts. Think about all the foods you eat that contain milk.
Food Value of Milk

Do you like yogurt? Do you find yourself snacking on cheese? These are two of the milk products that you can use to help satisfy your daily milk requirements. Without consuming milk in some form, you would find it difficult to get the minerals — especially calcium — that your body needs. In addition, milk and milk products contain some of most nutrients required by the body.

Protein - These are two main proteins in milk — casein and lactalbumin. These are complete proteins. A liter (1.06 quarts) of milk supplies more than the daily requirement of five essential amino acids and over half of the daily requirement of the three other essential amino acids.

Carbohydrate - The sugar in milk is called lactose. Lactose is found only in milk. It helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus and use vitamin D. In the body, lactose is changed to two other sugars; these are galactose and glucose. Galactose is necessary for healthy brain and nerve tissue. Glucose supplies energy.

Yogurt has only half the lactose of pure milk. Most ripened, or aged, cheeses contain small amounts of lactose.

Some people lack the enzyme that is necessary to digest the lactose in milk. The enzyme is called lactase. Without lactase, lactose passes through the body, causing intestinal problems. This is apt to be the case among adult Black,s Asians; the Innuit, and people of the Near and Far East. People who have been processed to reduce or remove its lactose. They also use smaller amounts of milk products than are usually recommended for most people.

Fat - The fat in milk is called milk fat or butterfat. Because of the way fatty acids are distributed in it, milk fat is digested more easily than other fats. Milk fat carries large amounts of vitamin A and smaller amounts of the fortified vitamin D. It also contributes calories to milk and helps give milk its distinctive flavor.

Skim milk and non fat dry milk are very low in fat. You can use them in place of whole milk to decrease your calorie intake.

Minerals - Two important minerals in milk are calcium and phosphorus. Milk and many other dairy foods are the main sources of calcium in your diet. Five hundred milliliters ( about 1 pin) of milk supplies about three quarters of the U.S. RDA of calcium for adults. Milk is also a valuable source of phosphorus. Although there is only a small amount of iron in milk, it is in a form that is easily used by the body.

Vitamins - The vitamins in milk are another reason for its excellent food value. Milk is an outstanding source of riboflavin. Milk products, especially cream, are also good source of vitamin A. For the body to make the best use of the calcium and phosphorus in milk, vitamin D must be present. But milk fat contains only a small amount of vitamin D. Therefore, vitamin D is added to almost all milk sold in the United States. The medical profession feels that the use of milk fortified with vitamin D has almost eliminated the bone disease called rickets in the United States.

Milk is fair source of thiamin and contains small amounts of niacing. While milk has only a little niacin, it is in a form that is easily used by the body.

Now you know how important and how good milk for you, go grab yourself a glass of milk every breakfast or before going to bed.

Exploring Foodstyles - Quick Bread
What is your favorite breakfast? Chances are it includes some kind of quick bread — maybe pancakes or muffins. In fact, the distinctive appearance, texture, and flavor of quick breads make them a popular treat at any meal.

Quick breads get their name because they became leavened or, or they rise, faster than yeast breads. This makes them convenient to prepare.

Huevos Rancheros

Huevos Rancheros means ranch style eggs in Spanish. It is a hearty Mexican breakfast dish. The eggs are fried and served with refried beans and an onion and tomato sauce on a tortilla. The tortilla is the national bread of Mexico. It is made from a cornmeal and water paste called masa. The masa is rolled out into a thin, round pancake shape and cooked on a griddle without being browned.

Belgian Waffles

In Belgium, waffles are the basis for a sweet quick bread dessert. The waffles themselves are somewhat different than the breakfast waffles we are used to. The recipe calls for more egg and uses no baking powder. The egg whites are beaten and then folded into the batter. They act as the leavening agent. This produces a very light, delicate, crisp waffle. The waffle iron is also slightly different. It makes a waffle with larger, deeper indentations. Belgian waffles are topped with fruit, whipped cream or syrup, alone or in combination.

Crêpes

Crêpe is the French word for pancake. A crêpe is different from our pancakes in that it is very light and thin. After cooking, crêps are filled with a sweet or savory mixture and rolled up before serving. Dessert crêpes can be filled with jam, ice cream, or a sweet sauce. Main dish or appetizer crêps are filled with meat, fish, or vegetable mixtures and are often topped with a sauce.
Yorkshire Pudding

Yorkshire Pudding is not really a pudding at all. It is more like a popover. This English quick bread is made from a batter and is baked in the oven, often with meat drippings. It is usually served with roast beef, an English tradition that is also popular in the United States.

How to Make Chicken Creole

A gift can be a token of friendship, appreciation, kindness, or respect as well as of love and affection. Food that you prepare yourself is a gift of your time and talents. Certain foods are traditionally given on certain holidays or special occasions. For example, candy on Valentine's Day or a cake to mark a birthday or anniversary.
Food Presents

Look through catalogues for mail order foods. You will find a a variety of good gifts listed. Many, however — baskets of cheese or fruits, for example — you may be able to assemble yourself for less money than the catalogue price, and your selection could be more appropriate and more personal.

In deciding what foods to give, select those that keep well unless you plan to deliver your gift right away. Many food gifts can be prepared a month or two ahead and either refrigerated or frozen. Avoid fragile foods that cannot be transported well. But with care, you can gift someone delicious cookies or chocolates.

Breads - Various home made breads are always welcome gifts. You might bake different holiday breads for your family and friends for less than the cost of bakery breads. Cinnamon rolls, cranberry nut bread, banana bread, salt rising bread, and fruit breads are all interesting additions to any meal.

Casseroles - You might elect to take your favorite chicken casserole to celebrations and holiday meals.

Sauces and Pickles - Despite the great variety of sauces and pickles on grocery store shelves, the homemade product is still prized. For example, a tested recipe of spaghetti, barbecue, pizza, or tomato sauce would be the choice gift for a friend with limited cooking time.

Snacks - Popular snack foods are not always nutritious, but you could make food gifts of nutritious snacks. A cheese ball which you have specially made might be very welcome. A big jar of homemade granola can be used for snacks, as cereal, as a crunchy topping, or as an ingredient in a bread.

Herbs and Spices - If you grow spices and herbs, you can use them to make many interesting gifts. Start chives in a flower pot for a friend to place in the kitchen window. Or grow your own, then dry leaves of basil, rosemary, thyme, and parsley and package them as gifts. For a wedding gift, you might select the basic spices and herbs in an attractive spice rack.

Others - Fruits that keep well make a colorful gift. A basket of fruit at Christmas or another holiday is often a relief from too many sweets. Or you might package a combination of favorite cheeses for a gift — or even assemble an "instant picnic" basket with, cheese, fruit, sausages, French bread, and beverage.

An interesting container and a simple ribbon can turn many foods into unique gifts.

Gift-Wrap The Food
Make your wrapping as festive as the food. Throughout the year, be alert handsome baskets and antique or decorated tin boxes to use for cakes, cookies, candies, or the assembled gift kits. Apothecary jars or French canning jars make good containers for marinated fruit and vegetables, for jams, sauces, and mincemeat. A "collectible" glass jar, such as the original Ball Brothers flip-top, would add interest to your gift.

Always enclose a card with information about your gift, including how to store and serve it, and how long you gift will keep.

The Gift of a Recipe

If you perfect the skill of making or baking something, such as a special kind of pie, you may want to give the recipe to a close friend or relative who you know will appreciate it.

Take the time to present the recipe effectively. Type or print the list of ingredients legibly and give complete directions. Enclose the recipe in a folder, gift-wrap it, or include with it a sample of dish itself and the baking utensil in which it was made.

What's New in Cookies and Types of Cookies

Years ago, a delicious, protein fortified cookie was developed. Because it contains the same amount of protein as a hot dog, this cookie can be used as a light meal. In addition, it is moist and will not crumble; it will keep for more than 3 months without losing flavor or nutritional value. Four varieties of the new cookie are now available: oatmeal, brownie, toffee and sweet potato.
What Are Vegetarian Diets?

A vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat. Vegetarianism is not new. It is a pattern of eating that has been followed for centuries by followers of some religions and by those who have not had meat available to them.

Vegetarian diets are increasingly popular in the world. People become vegetarians for many reasons. Religious doctrine may restrict followers from eating food from animal sources. Some vegetarians have a moral position against taking animal life. Others follow a vegetarian diet for health reasons. Cost may also be a reason. Vegetarian alternatives are less expensive than meat.

There are several different vegetarian food patterns. Almost all vegetarians eat vegetables, fruits, dried beans and peas, nuts, and enriched bread and cereal products. But some eat animal products, such as milk and eggs, and others consume poultry or fish. Here are various styles of vegetarians diets. See below.

Types of Vegetarians

Vegans: strict vegetarians who eat or drink no animal or dairy products
Lacto-ovo-vegetarians: those who drink milk and eat eggs but consume no other animal product.
Lacto-vegetarians: those whose only source of an animal product is milk.
Ovo-vegetarians: thos who eat eggs but no other animal product.
Pesco-vegetarinas: those who eat fish but no other animal product.
Vegetarians who eat fish and chicken but no red meat.
Fruitarians: those whose diet is composed chiefly of fruits and nuts.

A Balanced Vegetarian Diet

A carefully chose vegetarian diet can be as healthy and nutritionally sound as a diet that includes meat. Like other diets, a vegetarian menu must be balanced to supply nutrients and calories in adequate amounts.

Food-group guidelines often can be used for planning and evaluating diets. Choosing a balance diet is relatively east for a lacto-ovo-vegetarian. Lacto means milk and ovo means eggs. For those who abstain from animal flesh altogether, eggs, dried beans and peas, nuts and peanut butter, cheese, other dairy products, and meat analogues are alternate choices. If you substitute plant proteins for animal proteins in either a vegetarian or nonvegetarian diet, you need to understand amino acids and complementary protein foods. Your diet must supply eight or more essential amino acids in adequate amounts because your body cannot produce them. Food from animal sources(except butter and gelatin) have all the essential amino acids in adequate amounts. These foods are high-quality proteins. Plant sources of protein lack one or more essential amino acids. However, they may be combines to supplement one another and produce high quality protein. For example, succotash, a vegetable dish of lima beans and corn, has complementary proteins. Lima beans are low in amino acids cystine and methionine, but high in lysine. Corn contributes adequate amounts of cystine and methionine, but limited supplies of lysine. Together they supply the high quality protein the body needs. By combining plant foods with animal sources of protein, the protein from plants also becomes more usable.

An Unbalanced Vegetarian Diet

A vegetarian diet that is selected haphazardly can be detrimental to health. A diet of low quality protein may slow growth and development, particularly among children, teenagers, and pregnant women. If protein is severly restricted, a vegetarian diet may even cause retardation.

Other nutrients commonly deficient in a vegetarian diet can also lead to health problems. Because many vegetarians avoid iron rich foods, anemia is now more prevalent among this group. When milk and milk products are restricted, calcium, riboflavin, and vitamin D are generally deficient. Other foods supply calcium and riboflavin, but in relatively small amounts. For children and teenagers, vitamin D is essential for growth and development of the skeleton, Unless they spend a great deal of time in the sun or take cod liver oil, they might not get enough vitamin D. A vegetarian diet that restricts all animal sources of food generally causes vitamin B12 deficiency.

What Are the Minimum Requirements for a School Lunch?
