Its a funny old life, I'm working on a new online music magazine and its great fun - looking forward to my projected view of 'how' its going to look and be and what its about...

Well its about music on the street, discussing where do we go from here, or do we just wait and see what happens and evolve along with it - the world is changing so fast at the moment that we may not even recognise it next week !

Its also to promote those who have put their faith in me by offering their time to help me in producing masters, photographs, music, coaching, videos and etc

Change is inevitable in any situation, but we can steer it hopefully for the better. I've just been working on a new video of an old song, one that goes far back for Jezz, and far back for me too ! and because of that you pull out all the old photo's of that time and before you know where you are - your life has flashed before your very eyes...

Reflection is not a bad thing, but sweet memories of past times always give you a sense of something lost, though there's good times now too, and actually we seem to only remember the 'good' bits and not the bad bits !

I've been using my brothers photo's, which are absolutely amazing, Adam T. Burton. He has such talent and has been following me around throughout my life with a camera - it seems quite normal to me - though I suppose to have these images romanticise's the past even further

It took me back to my Dad who passed away 20 years ago, and its amazing how when you really start thinking about someone, you feel a connection to them. But this didn't seem like a 'wanting' it really felt real and gave me a feeling of my roots, firmly planted, of where I came from and a support cushioning me - and that was more than comfort, it has added to me now, in myself, who I am

And of course Adam, when I started to look at his images all over 5,000 of them, and those are just the ones that he's uploaded to the net or Flikr - not only did it take me back to my own journey but also blew me away at how amazingly talented he is - picture after picture, I almost felt guilty that I was being allowed to choose the pick of the crop, like I had only just noticed because he's my little brother after all !

And I just felt so much love for my family and what I have and what I'd been brought up with and how no matter what, I grew up okay and I've always followed my dreams, sacrificed a lot in the past, the same as Adam, but I've never given up on my vision of music and what it means to me and how it inspires me so much, same as Adam - I think our time is here !

Well done bruv I'm so proud of you !

And you'll just have to wait to see those amazing pictures in my video which will be in the new music magazine coming very soon !

And once again...I must recommend Jenni as a wonderful coach, not only that I feel we have become good friends, we can all do with finding the good people out there

She certainly is a dream warrior, she's certainly conjoured up dreams for me !

Be careful my mind is whirring again, I can feel it, the rusty cogs are clonking

This is a great issue, there's such a lot of information there and its FREE so youv'e got no excuse not to move your life up a gear !

I was talking to someone yesterday who just didn't seem to get the 1 + 1 = 3, it was like they were blinkered into thinking that everything is the same as it has always been, though I suppose maybe it is in their world.

I find that quite sad that people want to stay separate and just think of themselves, because you know what, not only is it fun supporting other people-but they actually become like an extension of yourself, maybe thats what this world needs, everyone linked together in equanimity

And if you find your passion, then everything else will fall into place...

Defining what I do

I'm trying to define what I do in music, why its importent to me and why its unique !

Well, its unique because I'm unique, we all are, but why do I write different words, its not just about writing about love songs for me, and when I 'paint' my songs in the studio, its about the 'feel' that it sends out in a deep emotional way

I watched Martin Scorseci's 2nd part of the film about George Harrison last night, its really good, but in part of it Ravi Shankar is saying that his music is like a meditation, a prayer, and that he 'loses' himself within it when he's playing, how sacred sound is

And I've always thought that there was a huge divide between 'New Age music' and 'Pop' (or any other western box you want to label it with) I do remember re-hearing songs years later that originally I thought had a banal content, only to find out that, OH WOW that's what they meant, there was some spriritual content there that I didn't understand because I hadn't evolved enough myself to recognise it

and as one of my songs goes 'I've always got something to say, and who does it matter to anyway?'
It matters to me, thats who I have to please, and ultimately I love people who really 'get' where and what I'm saying, but if you don't then that's okay too cause this is my learning journey and were all different

So what I'm trying to say is what incredible spiritual power music has, and when I listen in the studio to a song that was just written on my beautiful acoustic guitar (that Jezz made me!)

and then I hear the symphony that is created by sometimes a wall of sound, the different colours and the emotions that it takes me through, THEN I think maybe someone else will feel that too....that elevates me, literally I feel like I'm walking on air after hearing it !!

'Never underestimate the power of the word' but for me, never underestimate the power of the word with music, THAT is another medium altogether...and if I separate the word from the music and try and explain what I mean I find it impossible

There is something that happens spiritually when music is combined with lyrics.....for me...

And that makes me happy ....YAAAAYYYYYY!

remember the beatles 'I am the Warlrus'.....and 'I am the eggman'? where on earth did those lyrics come from? what do they mean? and why didn't anyone go WHAT ! thats ridiculous ! you can't sing about an eggman or a warlrus....but no we all loved the creative force that changed everything and opened our minds.....

well...apparently...John Lennon found out that his former school teacher was examining lyrics with his pupils and John in his humerous way decided to put these lyrics in to flumox the teacher saying....
'Let the f.....s sort that one out'

but its strange how something banal or stupid can become meaningful or even magical, maybe that's the warlrus reference to Alice in Wonderland....who cares....I love that song isn't that weird that that is one of my favourite and the lyrics were written in a thowaway meaning...

so...its either the rebel in me as John was, or theres a deeper meaning behind what he did choose, everything is a reflection of yourself, so maybe this is a reflection of me too !

why was I talking about that, its because this song I'm doing at the moment is playing in my head at all times, and there's this bit that just sounds like 'I am a Warlrus' .....I can asure you its completely unintentional...it just kind of happened...I love the way things can just turn up like that when you being creative, its a kind of magic isn't it...

Or maybe all these years later my brain has been working on regurgitating my inspirations, whirring away I can almost feel the clogs going round....

Maybe I need to free form words like Bowie used to do, I have tried that in the past, cutting sentences up and re-arranging them after ending up with about 30 strips of writing on....in a sort of art for arts sake...

but you know, I have a lot to say, and I've been saying it over and over for a while now...and I suppose its like Bob Dylan, no I'm not comparing myself to him, but he was a bard 'reporting' about his time and what was happening in a down to earth sort of brilliant way during the 70's peace movement, my mum went on the march ! this is at a time when there was still huge racist problems everwhere, when kids were taught the safety proceedures in schools of getting under the desk if there was a danger of an atom bomb going off !

How scary is that for a kid, and who was thinking that it would make a difference to be under the desk?

and Einstein's regret..... here was one of the most famous pacifists in history, and he had created the formula for weapons of mass destruction. He explained how sometimes a person has to create tools of war for the sake of peace.

I digress...so I think that what I write about is more of a psychological way of how to survive in this world...our world now...my journey has taken me through having my life 'saved' by hypnotherapy, learning the art of it and continuing with my development into so many 'ways' via healing, energy, hypnotherapy, meditation, self awareness, so many, in fact too many to mention to eventual psychological growth....

but the song remains the same....all my music is like a diary in where I was and where I went and where I'm going ....and I'm still writing about the same things only it feels it gets defined even further....because the world is changing too and fast...we are now entering such an exciting time but mentally we need to move forward too, that is what evolution is all about.....

and music is about to take a step further !

Just done an interview with the velvet voiced Scott Travers for New USB ! and I'm hooked....yes I know its the first one, I didn't expect to enjoy it so much, I thought it would be scary as hell thats probably why I sound so monotone ! ha but I'm practising, didn't realise I sound quite so posh, so I'm practising my eastender talk. I used to have a really strong brummy accent, mmm don't know whats happened to that..probably a good job thats gone !

Anyway, thanks must go to http://www.newusb.co.uk/ Scott, Gonzo and Ray for being nice and making it so easy...here's the replay

Passion for music !

Lets face it - I'm just passionate about music, can't help it, ever since I was a little girl when I spent my time out in the garden sat on the swing singing away to nature ! I used to go off into a dream singing away, still do it now, if I'm outside in the garden I sing, down by the river, and especially by the sea - don't know what it is, its like I'm connecting with the elements, its like a soul or spirit song that just happens.

This is what I was meant to do, this is my dream (as the song goes) and I seem to have been singing about the same things since then too. I am a great thinker, that is I enjoy technology, psychology, spirituality, science and where its all going. My mind is completely open, probably because of life experiences that I've had, some more amazing than others, but inevitably thats how I've learnt or unlearnt lol - mmm strange that, how life experiences can 'open' your mind to such an extent that you cannot say for certain anything !

Except of course Love. I think thats what I try to explain most in my lyrics, love for eachother, care for eachother, that is after all everything that we want being human. We live in an extremely exciting time, I can almost feel the expectancy and the calm before the evolution that is upon us. I can only guess what it is, but I know its going to be good

Maybe as a musician, I'll be able to access my brain directly to my studio and write symphonies straight from my consciousness, mmm that sounds good WOW now that would be fantastic, and what about plagerism? would that still be an issue? Maybe our brains, as we only use a third of them, are or will be found to be the next amazing computors - of course thats it !

This is a song that I recorded a while ago, its inspired by the Ringing Cedars books, and I can only say that if you havn't read them then DO SO ! they are amazing and offer an amazing way forward for all of us and our families. Anastasia, the main character, tells how families should build a 'space of love' or 'kins domains' where generations connect and carry on their care through growing food and putting love into the land and buildings. Also, in the books is a school that the children have built, and in fact they are the teachers too! Just amazing, and there are 9 books so far, just awaiting the 10th to be translated from Russian.

Sounds a bit like the old days, when villages worked and celebrated together for the harvest, when families lived close by and cared for eachother ! Utopia

This will be part of a new album very soon, I know I'm behind in putting the new album out, I've been spending my time on my new website www.sallyhope.co.uk and various other projects. The albums are now in a new online format ! they look amazing, but this all takes time, and takes from recording new stuff too! I've already started the new new album which is moving along a different avenue! can't wait to share it all with you. I love evolving with music, changing, and growing with it as the world does, I think music should reflect our world and I will be forever creating where my passion is taken ! Its all great fun !

I'm working very hard on a new website NO ITS NOT THERE YET ! it seems you have to go backwards to go forwards sometimes? well, yes that sounds like I'm giving nothing away, well I'm not ha no you'll have to wait! but its going to be good. I've been looking for a way forward as a musician, with albums, how a musician can adapt to this changing world and move forward.

When the sands are shifting you have to shift with it and find a new way to project music. Well, I think I've found it! and my website is looking fantastic. Its just that there's a lot of work yet to do, but wow its gonna be amazing!

There's also some other BIG news that I cannot talk about yet..my lips are sealed..no I cannot divulge anything because it will alter the plan if I do?

The future of music

Been thinking about this topic lately, obviously because I am a musician and singer/songwriter, and I find it very interesting to see where its going to go...the music industry I'm talking about. Well, yes, I know its gone, its been blown out of the water, because of the internet and because of its very nature, once youve heard it on the net its already taken or runs the risk of being taken.

With that said, the net offers at least an opportunity for any musician to be heard, which in a way is much more healthy, than the sales tecnique of said music company who for all intents could be selling baked beans.

But to digress, I am awaiting the answer with baited breath, I can almost feel it and I'm excited about the possiblility of it. I think its at times like this that we as a 'race' take a evolutionary 'jump' its thinking of it in another way, or it turning full circle.

I suppose the money making companies turned it all into a money making 'pop machine, which meant you either had to be 'pop' or not. What happened to the Bob Dylan's of the world, representing the roots and people? I'm talking real people not famous, the anti thesis, today it seems everybody wants the five minutes of 'fame' that Warhole spoke about.

Yeah Seasick Steve, roots thats what I'm on about cause that is what music should be about, not some manufactured anything, it should be real emotions, inspired by an artist, and the freedom to be just that. I guess art for arts sake can take any form, but the transience of it all is what is striking me at the moment - but I guess that's the beauty of any art...its about our own human emotions of this moment of time and especially, history and evolution of our race.

I'm looking forward to the new vehicle of music, its happening I can feel it...

Hymns on Sabbath for Jezz??

Oh and here's another one, where do they get their information from? Just read that Jezz has joined a gospel choir ha ha! It just goes to show how reporters can get things completely wrong, well you know what they say, they've got to make something up eh? But come on, at least make it believable !

Okay, this is what really happened, a few years ago I joined the 'Wild Angels' gospel choir, they were run by a fantastic woman called Una May. Now she always claimed that she could teach anyone to sing, except for her Auntie, she must have been bad! anyway, I thought it would be interesting and fun and good practice for my voice.

Una is one of those people that oozes enthusiasm, inspiration, fun, light and her singing was just incredible, she also did the African clicking just amazing, she was so switched on she was on fire mama! I thought she was amazing and the way she would get together a group of 30 singers and organise them and get them rocking was unbelievable - You did not mess with Una ! and I have the ultimate respect for her.

Anyway, at the time I was recording the 'Medicine' album, particularly, the song 'What I Need to Hear'
and I asked Una and the group if they would do some backing on this song. We recorded the song with Una being the only one with the headphones on who could hear it (well 30 pairs of headphones, no just not going to happen !) and she conducted them like that, I couldn't believe that we didn't even have to do many takes, she had them spot on, and of course their singing was amazing.

So, check it out, 'What I need to Hear' is kind of the Blues Brothers meets Una May and Sally Hope!

A while later The Wild Angels were putting on a show at theatre Hafren, so we decided to do the song, wow that was amazing for me singing one of my songs live with a gospel choir behind you WOW! and they just happened to have a Steinway piano that Jezz had the pleasure of playing along with 'Percy' Martin Herbert on violin.

Good times, excellent night, but no Jezz dosn't sing ! anyway..

I had to laugh, sometimes you put in your name on google to see the keywords that are coming up, well I did that with Jezz's name and found this Black Sabbath forum discussing whether or not Jezz was actually playing on stage behind a curtain with Black Sabbath or hoisted up to the ceiling !!

What !!! They were serious that was the worrying thing, upon investigation, well okay I asked Jezz, he definately said that no he was NOT hoisted up and playing from the ceiling ! I doubt whether this was something he would have forgotton ! Sounds like Pink got her idea off him !

Jezz joined Black Sabbath in 1975, he was working in a band called Mabutu, a jazz fusion band trio with the ledgendary drummer Mike Evans, sadly not with us any more, playing with the band one night to 30 people in Snobs nightclub in Birmingham. Six weeks later he was in front of thousands in big seater gigs touring America.

And yes, he didn't become one of the main members of the band, more of a session player, touring for many years, recording, and he did write with them too. I would have thought someone may have said in all those thousands of seater gigs, 'mmm I wonder where the keyboard sound is coming from, funny I didn't see a keyboard player?

I suppose if it was this day and age the technology to use a 'backing track' is easy, but not so easy before, everything was live. Hence, now the picture in my head of Jezz and his keyboard suspended from the ceiling!!

Well Jezz has a huge collection of information from these experience's and later on with Robert Plant, so I am going to go through it all, and compile it - maybe I might find a view of what it was like from the ceiling - I'll let you know !

So....I'm still focusing, feng shui ing, singing - a new track with Jezz, planning some video ideas, dosn't seem to be any time left in the day !! The studio is smoking (as in bristling with music), not me I gave up years ago ha!

Listened to an interview with Kate Bush - mmm why would she bring out the same albums? trouble is I'm such a fan I'm gonna have to get them anyway, well apparantly, from a reveiw, on the one CD there are two re-worked tracks that are excellent, so yes please....

But the good thing is she is working on a NEW album ......and how long have we waited? thats great news.

I love Ellie Goulding I think she's great and I think her album is too, but, I just love her doing what she does acoustically, it just works so well. I think I may be guilty of wanting to dress songs up sometimes that just don't need it.

Thats what I love about great songs, they work just with a guitar. Sometimes you can lose the beauty of the song when you produce it too much.

I am tempted sometimes to do the same with vocals, I absolutely love harmonies, I have been known to do 20 harmonies and create a real 'wall' of sound, thats what Karen Carpenter used to do, it makes for a really smooth vocal. But you know sometimes, one voice up close, and the emotion comes through like a razor, like the person is there in the room with you, very personal and electric, sends shivers down my spine.

Kate Bush is a master of vocal sound, she (or her engineer) overcompressed her voice so every bit is the loudest it can be, even when she whispers, so, it ends up so close, its right in your face and WOW like she's standing right next to you ! I love that sound, so rich and emotionfull 'The Dreaming' was my favourite album, though not a typical Kate Bush example, I loved the experimentation. I think when you give up experimenting in music, you may as well give up.

But, I cannot help it, acoustic guitar when played well, is an amazing together with voice, just look at Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and so many others - maybe its because its ultimately one persons 'soul' happening I don't know, someone explain it to me !!

The strange thing about doing a minimal album is that it will take twice as long ! Pearl my last album is such, and I spent two years editing that one. Whilst I do like 'live' work, to do a studio minimal album is a real achievement, I realised whilst doing it that it is one of the most hardest things to do, thats me, always liked a challenge ! It was an anti-thesis of the earlier Medicine album which to be honest went completely over the top! well youve got to do it if you feel it thats what I think!

Thats the beauty of creativity, always moving always changing with the times, and as always in fashion we go round in circles, but to me, to be free with my creativity is ultimately the most importent rule. So...where am I headed next...?

well...I'm working on a piece at the moment a 'plucked out of the air' piano inspiration by Jezz, and because its 'out of the air' it is not necesarily a written song in the usual sense, but because I have a photographic memory with music, I can hear a song once and will be humming it the next!, it will be something I don't think I've ever heard out there! I suppose maybe you'd hear something similar in a classical format, but not with today's music format. This idea, I think is combining the best talents of Jezz and I, so that it is pure and coming directly from the soul...

So onward...and still worshiping all creativity

OMG now I'm following myself on blogger! I'm quite an intelligent woman you know, I know how to record an album myself in the studio, I'm studying to be a counsellor, I am very well read, play a few instruments, can make clothes, paint, love writing, built a website, on several networks, hypnotherapy, but blogger?

Yesterday, I was there socialising, on the net and subscribing to interesting people, today I find I've subscribed to my own blog! but not just one NO both of them! and I can't get 'me' off !! Now it looks so embarrasing like I can't get enough of myself - so someone help me please save me from having 2,000 subscribers and there all ME!

So...what has a salt lake a spanish friend a table and a piece of string got to do with this album cover?

Well you have to remember it was in the days before computors, when if you wanted your spanish friend Rocio to 'stand' on top of the salt lake, then you needed a coffee table to put IN the lake for her to stand on!! ha isn't creativity wonderful !

And the piece of string?....well there was no wind to 'fly' the clothes out so, bring out the string ... OLE!

I tell you we had fun doing this, such a laugh, photograph is by Adam T Burton along with some other gems inside the booklet.

The music is very inspired by wonderful Spain, where we lived for a good few years, I like to think that the music reflects that culture that we were surrounded by, and I'm talking of spanish culture and not the english tourism that is prevelent there.

The wonderful May sevilianas pronounced 'sev y ar ners' the beautiful dresses that come out the horses and the spanish dancing and the smart mens suits and cuban heels clipping away with the handclaps - wo yeah just amazing to witness and be a part of - the spanish know how to party, they just dont stop, there's always a fiesta and another excuse for fireworks !

So...maybe I've conjoured up the chilled out 'feel' of the place and how it makes you feel 'alive' the warmth of the air, this is what brings me to this album and the style of it - the gypsy guitarist Bernd Jungmann with wild guitar, Jezz Woodroffe on keyboards and even Keith Wilson on harmonica (he did the saxophone on the Stranglers hit 'Walking on the beaches'

And Rocio who I lost touch with please would love to get back in touch with if anyone has a email ahh memories eh, good times as I said before OLE !

Its of 'Beautiful People' I love love love this song WHY? cause its about love, and how it works miracles in the world !

When I hear this song it makes my whole being feel happy, its just some songs do that to you don't they?

And I don't think it matters cause its my song, after all, if I'm not into them how can I expect any one else to be?

But that's what music does isn't it, it touches some emotion inside us that makes us feel warm and fluffy?

Fluffy? where did that come from? you know what I mean cosy, happy, loved just goooooood
