Tragically, some 7,200 people have now been confirmed dead and the government said it expects the death toll to exceed 10,000. Nearly 11,000 people remain missing and millions have been left homeless.

Toyota, the world's top automobile manufacturer, immediately suspended production at all its domestic car plants and parts factories and has estimated a production decline of 40,000 vehicles. The company has announced that it does not plan to restart production until later this week, and puts its production loss at some 16,000 vehicles.

The factories, even those that have not been severely damaged, could start-up again in the coming days but not for long due to the massive disruption to their supplier network. Toyota Motor Corp resumed the production of repair or replacement parts yesterday, however assembly plants throughout Japan remain closed, spelling a knock-on effect for the production of 95,000 vehicles.

Honda and Nissan have also temporarily halted operations, while Fuji Heavy Industries, maker of Subaru cars, closed five factories having suffered partial building and equipment damage. All three Mitsubishi plants based in Japan came away unscathed by the disaster, however some of its major suppliers were affected, halting plant operations until mid week.

Before the earthquake, Japan was making 37,000 cars and trucks each day. It exported more than half of them. Fourteen percent of the 7.2 core vehicles produced worldwide last year were made in Japan.

Most of the Japanese carmakers are based in the south of Tokyo, which was able to evade the calamity. However, senior importers have reported that the damage to the overall infrastructure in the country could cause a more lasting impact.

A shortage of parts shipped from Japan has already triggered a slowdown of production at the North American plants of Toyota, Subaru and General Motors in an attempt to conserve parts stockpiles. These problems will soon have further repercussions abroad. Japan is the world's second-largest car exporter (after Germany) and more than one in every ten cars produced in the world comes from Japan. In 2010, the export market (including cars and parts) was worth 130 billion dollars.

According to the carmaker, 60 percent of the cars sold in Europe are manufactured in Japan, but it can take about six weeks for Toyota vehicles to travel from Japan to Europe. This means that over the next five weeks, European dealers will still be receiving cars - or car parts - manufactured before the earthquake and the tsunami. Any disruptions in European or American plants would only begin to occur by the middle of April.

1. It may have been in an accident and your insurance company is writing it off.

2. The cost to repair it far exceeds the value of the vehicle.

3. The trade in value is so low it does not merit the effort.

4. You can’t find a buyer or anyone to “take it off your hands”.

5. Trying to sell it on your own is not worth the hassle or trouble trying to find someone who can use it.

6. It may have been a long standing problem for you and you do not want to pass a “lemon” onto someone else.

7. It may have been sitting so long that it does not run and is simply taking up space in your garage or even worse in your yard becoming an eye sore for the neighborhood and an embarrassment to you.

8. It is in pieces from a project that you never seemed to get around to due to time needed, money required to fix it or experience on “how to get the job done”.

These are just some of the reasons why salvaging your vehicle may be your best solution. In the hands of experienced and licensed salvage yards your useless car or truck can become useful again. Whether it is being “parted out”, gotten ready for the “crusher” to potentially use the scrap metal again somehow your vehicle can be recycled and reused. With everyone going “green” it is becoming more and more important to recycle. Having a salvage yard take your junker or clunker for its still useable parts is a great way to get rid of your problem and create opportunities for others to get inspected used auto and truck parts saving our landfills a tremendous amount of space. Basically taking your lemon and making lemonade.

These credible Salvage Yards or Auto Recycling Centers are in the business of making the best use of your used up vehicle. Some of your old vehicles parts will find themselves in other vehicles in other towns or even far away states from where you live. Many recyclers ship parts all over the country and even to other countries. They inspect, test and in some cases even warranty the used auto or truck part. Many auto repair businesses would rather work with a reputable Salvage Yard or Auto Recycler since they know the high costs for “new” parts that come from the dealerships.

Auto recyclers are in the business of buying vehicles that are no longer operational or of use to their current owners. Many of these vehicles were in auto accidents and/or “totaled out” by the insurance company because to repair them would cost more than they are worth. In these situations, many of these vehicles still have parts that are in perfect working order. The Auto Recycler dismantles the vehicle and resells all of the good parts

Annual premiums are increasing rapidly, and insurers have indicated that this can be blamed on the rise in personal injury claims, which are made by those who have been hurt in accidents. Some of these claims are fraudulent, and concerns are being expressed about whether proper procedures are in place to deal with these frauds.

Additionally the recent European court decision about sex discrimination in insurance pricing can be expected to have major ramifications. In recent years the insurers have spent more and more effort in competing with each other for new customers, and this seems to lead to poor deals for existing customers. Money saving guides usually recommend switching insurer every year to benefit from the excellent introductory deals which are available.

There have been numerous reports on TV and radio, and in the papers, identifying personal injury claims as a major factor causing an increase in motor insurance premiums. Some of these personal injury claims are being made fraudulently, and a certain amount of controversy has arisen about whether the companies are taking all the steps which they should do, to eliminate these fraudulent claims.

Another important issue that has arisen concerns sex discrimination in insurance pricing. Statistics show that women are less likely to have an accident than men, and the insurance companies have always reflected this in their pricing. In fact some companies have based all their TV advertising around their attractiveness to women (although they do in fact sell insurance to men as well).

The court found that offering differential insurance rates based on gender was illegal under sex discrimination laws. The insurance industry is clearly unhappy about this, particularly as it seems to be contrary to the basic principle of premiums based on risk.

It hasbecome notable in recent years that UK auto insurers seem to spend a lot of effort and expense in TV advertising to gain new customers. Often very generous introductory deals are available, which usually only last for one year. These discounts can of course only be funded by making insurance more expensive for those customers who renew every year.

It is now often recommended that those who wish to find the best deal, should switch to a different insurance provider every year. The many comparison websites which now exist make it fairly easy to find an introductory deal better than the renewal offer from last year's provider.

At the moment people who own caravans currently benefit from VAT free water and sewage bills. This tax exemption currently applies to around 300,000 people living in the Uk, but this will be stopped in January next year.

The change is legislation will be made to comply with EU regulations. It’s predicted that the change will cost each caravan owner an additional £100 per year, collectively raking in a staggering £3 million for HM Revenue and Customs.

Bills for water and sewage, as well as the connection costs to utilities are also currently zero rated for caravans, but this too will end next year- further bumping up the cost of owning a caravan.

A spokesperson speaking on behalf of the holiday industry has said that the changes to these laws are an unwelcome change that will burden the industry with more extra costs. However, the government has dismissed this and has said that until now caravan owners have simply had a fortunate break, and that they will now have to pay the same bills as everybody else.

People who either own, or are looking to buy boats too will be affected by these changes. Boats which are bought by residents of the UK for use outside of the European Union will also be hit with the VAT charge. Only boats which are taken to the non-EU destination by the manufacturer will escape the additional charges.

Most luxury yachts are purchased in this way, in that they are bought and sailed to their destination by the owner; this will no longer be allowed, unless the full VAT price is paid at the time of the sale.

The owners of leisure vehicles may also be hit with even more charges if the government gives the proposed green taxes the go ahead. The spokesman for the holiday industry is hopeful that these rising costs will not put a put people off of purchasing or holidaying in caravans, motor homes and other recreational vehicles.
It is the fifth largest country in overall size on the American continent and it has one of the largest economies in the world. Besides the thriving industries located on the U.S. and Mexican border, Mexico has a booming tourist based economy and is a popular destination for those from Canada and the U.S., who especially enjoy the Baja Peninsula region. If you plan to travel to Mexico, either for business or pleasure, there are some things you should think about regarding Mexican auto insurance.

Since the United States and Mexico share a border, it’s quite common for those who live on the U.S. side to cross over every day to conduct business or enjoy some of the beautiful Mexican scenery and hospitality. Much of this travel is done by car. If you drive across the border, you really should take a minute to find out about Mexico auto insurance and what your responsibilities are. Many people are unaware that their U.S. auto insurance coverage will not protect them if an accident occurs on the Mexican side of the border. Being unaware of your obligations won’t excuse you from them.

Here’s what you should know about Mexican insurance. Mexico’s legal system is based on the Napoleonic code. In the case of an accident, there may be a presumption of guilt until you prove your innocence. In the United States, the legal system is based on English Common Law, where the presumption of innocence first is the standard practice. If you do have an accident, Mexican law will require you to have proof of financial responsibility. This can only be done by either having enough cash on hand to cover the damages or by having Mexican auto insurance. Policies from other countries may not fulfill this requirement.

If you intend to travel to Mexico, there are convenient and reliable resources for finding Mexican insurance online. Be sure to take your time and do some thorough research. Look for an online presence that has been around for awhile. Really read the information the website provides. Check to see how available the staff will be if you need assistance. Also, don’t be afraid to investigate location specific insurance options. For instance, if you intend to travel to Baja, then ask about Baja insurance. Finally, you can even get personalized coverage by tailoring your policy to fit the timeframe and location of your travels.

Not only are antique cars worth a pretty penny if they are in pristine condition, but they are also hot collector's items if they run and meet certain criteria. Furthermore, many people love collecting antique cars because they like to restore them to their original condition; however, many times this requires some auto parts that are needed for various systems throughout the automobile.

On the other hand, if you or someone you know has ever tried to get their hands on some antique auto parts then you already know how much of a pain they can be to find. Indeed, the reason that antique auto parts are very hard to find is because normal auto parts retail stores hardly ever carry them or anything else that's related to antique cars. The main reason for this is that there is very little profit in doing so, except from the antique car collectors themselves.

In order to find antique auto parts, many people are forced to search high and low for these much sought after parts. These auto parts are definitely needed, though, in order to restore an antique car to its original condition. However, one suggestion to find these antique auto parts is to ask around through connections that are forged and acquaintances that are met through antique car shows. Most people, especially antique car owners, will be more than happy to divulge the information since there is no profit in hiding the information and keeping it a secret.

Another suggestion that one has to find antique auto parts is the resources on the World Wide Web. There are many specialty groups that can be found online and one of these groups is devoted to antique auto parts. You may be very surprised to find out that there are a great deal of antique car owners that are located on the web for the sole purpose of connecting with other antique car owners and to start up antique car groups throughout the whole United States. Within these antique car groups on the internet, though, there is bound to be some antique auto parts resources that one is able to use in order to help restore their antique car they're working on.

On the other hand, its very possible that the antique auto part that you are looking for is no longer available and there's nobody that is carrying the part anymore. If this situation arises then the very next best thing to do would be to make modifications and adjustments to the antique auto parts that you can find that will nearly do the trick.

All in all, even though some antique auto parts are very hard to find, there are always going to be options and alternatives available in place of the antique auto parts themselves. Even though it may be difficult to grasp the notion that no part is available anywhere, life must go on and the restoration of the antique car must continue if one is to succeed with the goal of getting it back to pristine and working condition!
Due to the ever increasing rise in petrol prices in the UK, the demand for fuel efficient cars is at a parallel. As a diesel engine saves up to one third fuel per mile than petrol powered engines, it is considered to be very fuel efficient. It uses higher compression ratios and combustion temperatures. Though diesel is a non renewable source and releases carbon dioxide into the air, it does so at a much less threatening and harmful rate compared to petrol.

Diesel cars are more efficient in terms of the average miles they give per gallon of fuel. You can save more money on fuel with a diesel car, by following some simple tips.

Diesel cars can save you money, if driven carefully taking care in consideration your speed. Driving faster generates more power, using more fuel. You can save a considerably large amount by slowing down a few miles an hour. You can keep your speed at the posted limit, while driving on the motorways thereby saving about 20% of diesel.

If you keep your car moving without having to stop, you can save diesel, which in turn saves you some money on fuel. Driving in congested traffic or starting and stopping the car very often while driving will end up in using more diesel than that spent by staying in steady motion. You can try to find out some alternate routes to aid in saving fuel.

Air conditioners in the diesel cars use a lot of power. If you turn the AC unit on, it causes the power to get diverted to the compressor for emitting the cold air into the car. Diesel engines need to work harder in order to compensate the power that was lost. Hence, more amount of diesel is used to keep the speed of the car up. It is therefore advisable to turn the air conditioner off, whenever possible.

One simple way to save money on fuel with a diesel car is to keep the tank full. Running the car with less fuel can shorten the life of the fuel pump and running on empty can destroy the pump. Moreover, filling the tank full saves the time and money you need to spend on travelling to the station several times.

If your car is too heavy, the engine needs to work harder to move the vehicle. You can reduce unnecessary weight in your car and save money on fuel.

Because of these anticipated rises in gas prices, older used vehicles are now increasing in demand, because people want cars that can get more miles to the gallon.

Used cars are selling for rates that are well over blue book value, and not just in private sales. Even dealers are getting in on the action and paying out more for trade in value of used cars than they have in years.

If you are sitting on a used vehicle that you want to sell, you could be sitting on a gold mine!

Before you jump up and list your car for sale on craigslist, follow some of these tips to make sure that you get the very top dollar for your used vehicle.

Check out the blue book value of your vehicle. This can easily be done online. Simply have the information about the make, model, and year of your vehicle and find an online blue book estimator. Be honest about the condition of your vehicle when you plug the stats into the estimator to get the most accurate value of your vehicle.

Once you know how much your vehicle is valued at by the blue book standard, look online for vehicles that are similar to yours and see what they are selling for in your area. Consider contacting dealerships and see what they are selling your year, make, and model of vehicle for, and also what they are paying out for your year, make, and model.

Keep your maintenance current. The better you take care of your vehicle, the more likely that you will get a good amount of money for it on trade in. A routine oil change can potentially add thousands of dollars to the value of your car over time.

Fix the little things before you put it on the market. If your AC doesn’t work, fix it! If your windshield is cracked, replace it! If the tires are bad, change them! If you have body damage, find a Utah auto body shop and spruce it up! If the interior is dirty, clean it! If the cassette player doesn’t work…..well, upgrade to a CD player!

Anniversaries: Anniversaries are a great occasion to rent a limo. Because this is a celebratory occasion, it’s a good idea to go all out but without overdoing it and spending a fortune. Limos are an affordable luxury, especially when a couple is celebrating something has big as their anniversary.

Parties: Parties are a terrific time to rent a limousine. It doesn’t matter if the party is in honor of the individual renting the limo or for a friend, arriving in a limo is a great way to get people’s attention. It can also be a safe way to enjoy a night out on the town. Rather than drinking and driving, individuals can leave the driving to the professionals.

Nights Out On The Town: Nights out on the town are one way that individuals can get together with family members and/or friends to have fun, hang out and blow off some steam. It can also be a great time for a group to pool their resources and rent a limo. Doing so has several advantages. Everyone can stay together, traveling to each location in masse. Doing so also keeps everyone safe. Again, the limo driver handles all transportation, getting everyone where they need to be, safely even if they have been drinking.

Bar Mitzvahs: Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are important times in a young person’s personal development and life. Families work hard to make them a special occasion. One way to do so is to rent a limousine to transport the guest of honor to and from the Bar (or Bat) Mitzvah location.

Sporting Events: Sporting events are a great time to rent a limousine. When individuals think about limousine rental, they rarely think about doing so in order to go to a sporting event. However, more people should. It is a great way to travel to a baseball, basketball or football game in style.

Dinner and a Show: Individuals that live in New York or New Jersey may want to consider renting a limo to take them to dinner and a Broadway show. The aforementioned is a great way to spend an evening in the city.

What am I talking about? Your car's battery. Technological advances have made "maintenance free" batteries standard equipment on virtually every vehicle produced today. However, the term "maintenance free" is a misnomer, one that can leave you stranded if you do not perform proper and regular maintenance. Battery maintenance isn't difficult to do, so let's take a look at what you can do to keep your car running.

Before discussing battery maintenance, please make sure that your battery is, in fact, the sealed type. If it isn't, then the "maintenance free" label certainly does not apply and you will need to add water on a regular basis. Unsealed batteries are easy to spot as they have small vent caps on top of the battery which can be twisted open. You will need to periodically add distilled water to maintain water levels; more so in the summer months as water tends to evaporate quicker. Do not let your battery run low or run out of water as the battery's cells can be ruined.

If your battery is of the sealed variety, then the "maintenance free" label is still only partially true since the term only extends to you not needing to add water to the cells as you would with an unsealed battery.

With any type of car battery - sealed or unsealed - you must do the following to help keep it working properly:

1. Clean the cables. Disconnect the cables from the battery and clean them with a wire brush that has been doused in a home made mixture [the mixture combines one tablespoon of baking soda with one cup of water]. Use this same mixture to clean off the top of the battery; use a small and clean paint brush to apply the solution where needed.

2. Lubricate the posts. A small dab of petroleum jelly on each post will help keep your cables clean and free of corrosion longer. In addition, the jelly will make it easier for you to slip the cables back onto the battery.

3. Check connections. Besides the connection between the cable and the posts, make sure that the battery hold down bar is securely in place. Not all cars have or need a battery hold down bar, but if yours has come so equipped, you will need to put it back in its proper place.

That's it! Car battery maintenance is an easy task and one that should be performed on an annual basis. If you keep your battery properly maintained, you will extend its life and greatly reduce the chance that your battery will fail you at an inopportune time. Yes, the "maintenance free" label is incorrect, so please don't be lulled into forgetting to do something that should never be overlooked.

Ever been in a situation where you are in the middle of nowhere, you are tired and hungry and when you are about to leave your car would not start? This is indeed a typical scenario. A dead or weak battery often is the reason for such unfortunate situation. If it happened to you once or twice, the situation is crying out to you. Possibly, you will need to buy a new battery car charger so you will not end up in such difficult position again.

But how do you choose the best battery charger for your car?

Certainly, there are so many brands and models of car battery charger available in the market today. If you are a novice in automobiles, parts and accessories, finding the right car battery will be very challenging. To help you decide and to narrow down your choices, following are tips on how to choose the best charger for your car:

Know Which Type Suits Your Car's Requirements
If you opt to buy rechargeable batteries, take note that you will also need to buy a decent charger to use. They come in three types. First is the AC charger. This type is the most convenient since you can easily plug this charger in any AC wall socket. The second type is the solar charger. This type does not require any plugging. It can function and operate with the use of the sun's powerful rays. The third type is the 12 volt charger which is very expedient and can be plugged even in a home's renewable energy system or even via your car's cigarette lighter.

Furthermore, it is important to identify which battery supports your car battery voltage. If you are driving a gas powered automobile, you are most probably running on a 12 voltage power. Conversely, if your car is a diesel powered vehicle, your car is most likely to using a 24 voltage power. So make sure that you know which type support your car's battery voltage before purchasing a car battery charger.

Understand The Different Car Battery Charger Features
Compare the different features of car battery charger brands to help narrow down your choices. Look for the adjust charge rate of the charger to prevent battery damage and or its compatibility with automotive or light marine battery

Maximize The Use Consumer Reports And Product Buying Guide Online
If you are clueless on which brand of car battery charger to buy you can read different consumer reports and product buying guide online. You will find information not just the price comparison but also the different car battery charger features. Moreover, you will see satisfactory reviews and commentaries from past consumers.

Check Sales During Fall Or Spring
If you are not in a hurry to buy a car charger battery, you may want to wait for fall or spring sales. The price of car battery chargers drops during fall and spring. You can also read through catalogs or paper ads from different auto parts and Sears.

Decide Whether To Buy Online Or Through Local Auto Parts
Online stores are very popular these days. It gives customers the convenience to choose and compare prices with other brands and online stores. It is important to make sure that when you are buying products online, you only transact with reputable online business stores. Be wary when leaving your account or personal information. In addition, most local auto parts also have their own websites to service the online consumers. Check if traveling to the store will save you more money than paying for the shipping fee.

Jump start your car and choose only the best car battery charger. The things mentioned above will surely help you make the wise choice. Good luck
Should you be looking for the best car battery to purchase you must know some of its characteristics, such as the cold cranking amps (CCA), the reserve capacity along with the group size. Let's start with the CCA.

CCA can be used in order to measure the ability of the battery to start the vehicle when it is cold outside. You need to purchase one that has a CCA rating which mustn't exceed the vehicle's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cranking rate. If you don't be aware of rating for the car, you will have to check the owner's manual. If you happen to reside in an area which has a cold climate, it is recommended to buy an automobile battery that has a high CCA rating because of the reason that a chilled and sluggish engine will require a lot more capacity to start up.

Moving on to the reserve capacity, you need to know that it's the amount of minutes by which your automobile will run using only the battery if the alternator fails. Putting things inside a technical perspective, a completely charged battery will run at 25 amps and when the voltage falls below the minimum 10.5 amps necessary for order to run the car, you must change it with a brand new one. Obviously, you should buy an automobile battery that accompany the longest reserve capacity you'll find because of the reason why you might need that capacity in the unfortunate case in which your automobile will not start.

The group size concerns the outside dimensions of the batteries along with the keeping the ability terminals. Should you don't be aware of proper size for the vehicle, ask your mechanic or check the owner's manual.

Let's talk a little bit about the types of batteries. Basically you have two options: low maintenance (non-sealed) or maintenance-free. The first is recommended should you run your car in hotter climates. Taking into consideration the battery is not sealed, you will be able to add water whenever necessary. The 2nd kind of battery has a longer operational life and it is also takes less time to recharge. Their bad thing is that they're vulnerable to various failures due to the shedding of the active plate material that with time will weaken.

To get the best car battery to buy, acquire one that's "fresh". Quite simply, avoid purchasing a battery that's been about the shop's shelves in excess of Six months. Don't forget to check when the battery is made having a look at the case or the attached label. The manufacturing date includes a 2-digit code with one number and one letter ("A" means January; "B" for February and so forth); as the digit will represent the year ("11" is recognized as 2011). We recommend that you shouldn't purchase a battery from a gas station as most likely they'll be quite old.

As far as the warranty can be involved, it is determined by a set of 2 numbers which you will find for auction on it. Your priority will be to be aware of free replacement period. In other words, the interval of your time in which you'll obtain a free replacement should the battery you purchased does not work anymore. Another number you will discover on the label tells the total duration of the warranty.

We recommend that you buy a battery from one of these manufacturers: Napa, Exide, Duralast, Diehard, Everstart and others as well. Talk to your mechanic because he knows what type and brand of battery you need to get for the vehicle.

Your best bet when choosing car battery replacement choices is to first go to your local garage to find out what kind of battery type you need for your car. This will prevent any compatibility issues when cross mixing brands such as BMW and Mercedes.

Amazon and eBay buying tactics

The best thing on Amazon is the fact that the free shipping deal is on most of their range. This is not only convenient but also allows you to get the peace of mind that you are not pay extra than what you would at your local shopping mall. Also the speed of delivery makes it a very reliable and trustworthy place to do some shopping. Overall the best deals can be found on the first 10 results when a particular phrase is typed in. How their algorithm works to give you these results is not something that I care to place comment on but I will say that it saves a lot of time.

eBay is a completely different beast when looking for car battery replacement options. The automotive industry has its own sections and batteries are sold there by very reputable sellers. These can be found by checking out the number of sales transaction that they have done in the past and what they're average feedback rating is. Having RVs and going on road trips is a hobby and pastime to many. To the more serious RV afficionados, it isn’t just a hobby - it’s a way of life. RVs has peaked its sales in 2006 with around 400,000 units sold in North America. RV fanatics don’t even seem to mind the soaring gas prices as long as they get their hands on the latest state of the art RVs of today.

With their serious price tags however, buying an RV is a very important matter. It is a decision that should be given a lot of thinking and consideration. When buying your RV, you need to take into consideration lots of things like the size, the amenities that you would like to have, the brand, insurance, your budget, and most importantly its purpose.

So what exactly should you go for when buying a RV? Like with the other important decisions in life, planning is very vital before you head out and buy your RV. The first thing to consider is the purpose of your RV. Are you planning to buy a motor home that you can use for your annual family trip? In such case, renting one would be more advisable. Whether you will use it often or seldom, the maintenance and storage costs are given and these are extra burdens on your finances.

There are also some people that intend to buy RVs to be used as their permanent residence. In this case, it is more like buying a new home. If you don’t really need to move in right away, experts advice that you try and rent one or two first to get the hang of it. RVs may be very comfortable to live in but can be quite sore if you’re in the wrong one.

A towed RV is misguided if you have children along for the ride. Riding in a trailer or even a fifth wheel is not only unsafe especially for children, it is also illegal. You will be required to obtain an extended pickup truck to tow a fifth wheel if there will be more than 2 adults as passengers.

For hobbyists that intend to use RVs for recreation, a “toy trailer” will work best. This is for those that will go on road trips to sand buggy and bring ATVs along. In toy trailers, the living area is compact to make room for the little garage at the back.

When decision time has arrived, try to spend some time with an expert RV salesman. You can consider a used RV at first to try it out. Brand new RVs will significantly depreciate once bought. Used RVs on the other hand depreciate gradually. After you experience it and get the feel of a particular RV that you prefer to have, then by all means buy yourself a new one and enjoy your motor home to its maximum.

And, occasionally, they love to take their car out of the garage and on the road for a spin. But few have thought about what happens if their car should break down while they are on the road.

Breakdown coverage, or roadside assistance coverage as it is sometimes called, is more important for a classic car owner than for other motorists for a couple of reasons.

One, many classic car owners only drive their cars infrequently or on special occasions. Over the winter, they may keep their car in the garage and only bring it out once the weather turns milder. Who knows what, if anything, has gone wrong to affect its mechanics or handling ability during the months that it has been in storage? As a consequence, when you do bring it out, you have less confidence in its road abilities than you do in a car that you drive everyday.

Secondly, in most cases, your classic car is a bit more valuable than your everyday car. As a result, if your car does break down on the roadside, you might need a special type of assistance and auto shop to get you back on the road again. Specialized classic car coverage might provide that whereas normal breakdown coverage would not.

According to industry statistics, less than one out of every five classic car owners carry breakdown coverage for their car. Many have avoided thinking too much about it because they simply assume that breakdown coverage for a classic car would be too expensive.

Unfortunately, for those who go as far as getting a quote from many insurance companies, this is exactly true. Which is odd, because, as a rule, unlike many typical car owners, classic car owners are very meticulous about taking extremely good care of their car and keeping it in good running condition.

That's why, if anything, the charge for their roadside rates should be less. At any rate, this shows why it is important to shop around for a company that has experience in insuring classic automobiles. Such a company will be glad to quote you reasonable rates.

Other car owners have avoided purchasing this type of insurance because they were not aware of the advantages that such coverage would offer. Automobile hobbyists are a special breed. And, while it is true that most owners of these cars could probably fix the car themselves if given the proper tools, parts, and equipment - when on the road, these things will probably not be available to them.

If you crashed your car, you would claim on your insurance to get the necessary repairs or alternatively to buy a new car of the same value. Similarly, breakdown cover provides you with the necessary repairs and support that would normally cost you a lot of money.

The breakdown cover provides you with multiple options and support in addition to providing the repairs where they can and getting you back on the road, such as providing hire cars when your vehicle needs to be in the garage for a while, tow facility where they would tow your car to the nearest garage or even to your home.

In contrast to car insurance which is required by law in order to protect both you and the general public, breakdown cover is an optional addition and the reasons many choose to purchase this breakdown cover differ tremendously. The main reason however is that many individuals simply doubt their vehicles ability to drive continually, unhindered by the many factors that can effect them that most of us just can’t understand. So we purchase breakdown cover to provide us with the peace of mind that if the worst does happen, we can have a trained professional come to our rescue within as little as 20 minutes!

The key to deciding whether or not you need breakdown cover is measuring the risk factor against the cost of their selected policy. For example, if you have recently purchased a cheap car that runs but has done 100,000 miles, you may decide that the likelihood of problems during your time driving it is high so a £30 a month breakdown cover would be well worth it. Similarly, extenuating circumstances may you decide that breakdown cover would be very useful for you such as individuals who spend a lot of time driving or work in the automotive industry and as such may have to drive multiple cars of differing quality and age.

Another consideration when deciding if you need breakdown cover is your current level of automobile knowledge. For example, given that the vast majority of breakdown cover callouts are minor issues such as flat tyres, flat batteries etc, if you have a reasonable to good knowledge of vehicles you may decide that the likelihood of having a problem that you could not fix yourself is not proportionate to the cost of having the breakdown cover.

As your anchor to the road, your tires need to be in top condition for what ever driving situation you find yourself in. Before you walk into a Marengo tire store, here are a few things you need to keep in mind.

When purchasing tires, it is important to make sure that all the tires on your car are the same or at least very close to the same. This is most easily done when buying all four tires at once. But lets say you need to change just one or two tires because they were damaged. You just have to makes sure that you try and buy the same brand, size, type, and speed rating. Even if this tire is a little more expensive than others, your safety is worth it.

The next thing you need to know when buying tires is what kind of conditions you will be driving your car in. Foxlake, IL tires are going to be different than San Diego, CA tires. In Illinois, there is a lot of snow in the winter and lots of rain throughout the spring and summer. Because of this, someone's Foxlake, IL tires are going to need to be the best tire for the worst driving conditions you will face. This might mean buying two sets of tires, one for the summer and one for the winter. This way, you will always have the right tire for your situation.

For places with milder climates, you may be able to get away with just one, all-season tire. But you have to consider your normal driving habits as well. If your furthest driving distance is to the local shopping center, you can choose just about any tire. If you spend a lot of time in rush hour traffic, you'll be better off getting more responsive tires. For regular long highway trips, you'll need some smooth, quiet, long lasting tires. And it comes to no surprise that you'll want tires with great handling if you frequently find yourself on a winding mountain road.

One of the last things you need to think about is your tire's speed rating. This is an important number to pay attention to because it can save you money if you know what to look for. Lets say you're at your local Marengo tire store and you think you've picked out the prefect tire. What's the speed rating on that tire? If it is any higher than 150MPH then you're paying too much for a tire that you'll never fully use. When are you ever going to be driving faster than 150MPH? If you knock down your tire's speed rating to 130MPH, you'll also knock down it's price. Most high performance tires come with a higher speed rating, even though you'll never use it, so just know what you're actually paying for. And be cautious. Most tires with a high speed rating have softer rubber and don't last as long.

Common tire speed ratings: Q= 99 mph S= 112 mph T= 118 mph U= 124 mph H= 130 mph V= up to 149 mph Z= 149 mph and above W= 168 mph Y= 186 mph

Even within the major categories of tires there are more sub-categories to sort through. So even though you may know what driving situation you find yourself driving in most, you may still have trouble choosing a tire. Here is a quick breakdown of the different kinds of tires so you know what to look for at your Fox Lake tire shop.

All Season Tires (Passenger) – All season tires are exactly what they sound like. They are made to be used all year round. They are build to be a balance between grip, performance, longevity, noise reduction, and wet weather safety. The rubber these tires are made of is harder than other tires in order to increase it tread life. These tires are often the original tires on new cars because how mutli-use they are.

There are a few varying performance levels for these tires. Ultra high takes away some traction for higher speed performance. High performance tires are great for sedans and sports coupes. And grand touring tires are good for longer riding.

Touring Tires (Passenger) – Touring tires are a combination of all season tires and performance tires. These tires can be used on most cars and minivans. While the look like performance tires, they have the handling, tread life, and smooth ride of all seasons.

The main difference found within the touring tires category are the varying stability and traction as well as the look of the tires. When shopping at a Woodstock tire store, just keep in mind your driving situation to help you choose a touring tire.

Performance Tires (Passenger) – These tires are designed for speed demons. The rubber of these tires is softer to increase traction and handling when speeding around corners. These tires also have wider treads than all season tires so they make better contact with the road.

Ultra High Performance Tires (Passenger) – These tires are rather self-explanatory. They have the best high speed traction and control of any tire. They also have a high speed rating of 150mph. They are made of a very soft rubber for the best grip on the road, though they give up traction for this grip.

Original Equipment Tires – These tires are the ones found on new cars. Car manufactures work with tire makers to produce the best possible tire for the car so when the new owners take it off the lot the ride is smooth. They also request the tire makers to put more markings on the tires to help the new owners buy new tires when the time comes. You wont find these at your Woodstock tire store.

Snow Tires – These tires are specially made for cold weather and snowy conditions. They are made of soft rubber so that they can grip the icy ground and they also heat up to melt the snow under it. They are made with more sipes than traditional tires so that they can move the snow out from under them so they can reach the road.

These are not tires you want to use year round. When the snow melts, make sure your switch your tires back to other tires meant for dry roads.

All Terrain Tires (Light Truck) – Many light trucks and SUVs use all terrain tires. They are made with stiff side walls in order to prevent punctures. They also have large block treads to give them a lot of traction on mud, sand, and dirt.

Mud Terrain Tires (Light Truck) – These tires are specially made for off roading. They have even larger block treads for driving through mud, dirt, and sand and they are also wider which prevents the tires from sinking into the terrain.

Of late though, BMW X5s, Audi Q7s and Range Rovers have become as common as a normal medium sized family car. You may have noticed that there are much more female owners and drivers of 4x4s, whereas historically women would have shied away from such large cars.

With the increase of popularity of these large SUV type vehicles demand for a used Land Rover in Surrey has increased immensely. As well as standard models, third part companies have got involved in modifying and making SUVs unique to the owner. Afzal Kahn and his team at Project Kahn are heavily involved in modifying Land Rover models.

Bespoke and modified Land Rovers are not just limited to the popular Ranger Rover and Range Rover Sport; Afzal Kahn has recently released an “enhanced” Land Rover Discovery. Project Kahn have changed the front and rear arch spats, front and rear bumper unit, and added a twin mesh grille, side vents, L.E.D running lights. They have changed the ride height by adding lowered sports suspension and added an exhaust system. Tinted glass and innovative 22" RS-R wheels finish off the exterior.

Prior to the Discovery Project Kahn released the Silver Range Rover Autobiography. It has a full Project Kahn body kit consisting of; a new front and rear bumper, front bumper spoiler, front bumper billet rings, side skirts, rear bumper including rear diffuser, quad exhaust system and of course, RS wheels accommodating the original Land Rover centre caps.

Top of the picks is the Volkswagen Golf hatchback which is described by the use of words like ‘refined’, ‘comfortable’ and ‘fun’. As most Volkswagen cars it’s reliable and well built and holds it value well, it comes with an array of safety kit as standard and both looks and feels good to drive. It’s only let down by its rather conservative appearance.

In at number two comes the Skoda Octavia which has more space than the VW Golf and offers great value for money. But the models on the lower end of the price scale also miss out on some equipment so expect to pay more for things like rear electrical windows and alloys.

The green Toyota Prius gets the third spot with its spacious cabin and big boot. It’s got excellent fuel economy and low emission which makes up for the rather disappointing interior.

Forth in the top five is the Hyundai i30 which is the cheapest of the top five cars and also comes with a great warranty package. It’s described as a solid car but a bit bland.

Last of the top five cars is the Mazda 3 which is described as funky and fun with good resale value.

So if you’re in the market for a new family hatchback, you probably won’t go wrong by checking out one of the above. If you’re after a new Volkswagen, Mitcham has a dealership which should be able to help.
