The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) was founded by Tenzin Gyatso, The 14th Dalai Lama. After the Chinese occupation, his holiness The Dalai Lama felt it was important to safeguard the traditional performing arts of Tibet so that they don't get lost forever.

TIPA soon become the center of the city as well as the social life of Tibetens living in Dharamshala.

TIPA preserves a wide repertoire of musical, dance and the optical traditions from Tibet. The institute has modern theater troupe which puts on contemporary plays. TIPA maintains its own workshops for making costumes, masks, and musical instruments.

TIPA also runs a school where a mix of modern academic and traditional Tibetan education is provided to children who are in addition, trained in Tibetan music, dancing and acting from an early age.
Its annual 10 Day Shoton festival attracts people from all over the country. The performance at the festival includes dancing and singing by the artists in elaborate costumes. हिमाचल प्रदेश की स्थापना 1948 में भारत के संघ के भीतर एक मुख्य आयुक्त प्रांत के रूप में हुई थी। हिमाचल इतिहास इस प्रांत में शिमला के आसपास के पहाड़ी जिले और पूर्व पंजाब क्षेत्र के दक्षिणी पहाड़ी क्षेत्र शामिल थे। 26 जनवरी 1950 को भारत के संविधान के लागू होने के साथ ही हिमाचल एक भाग सी राज्य बन गया। 1 नवंबर 1956 को हिमाचल प्रदेश एक केंद्र शासित प्रदेश बन गया। 18 दिसंबर 1970 को हिमाचल प्रदेश अधिनियम संसद द्वारा पारित किया गया और नया राज्य 25 जनवरी 1971 को अस्तित्व में आया। इस प्रकार हिमाचल भारतीय संघ के अठारहवें राज्य के रूप में उभरा।

पहले के समय में, इस क्षेत्र को विभिन्न राज्यों में विभाजित किया गया था, जैसे कि चंबा, बिलासपुर, भागल और धामी। 1815-1816 के गोरखा युद्ध के बाद, यह ब्रिटिश भारत का हिस्सा बन गया।

प्रागितिहास

कुछ प्रमाण मिले हैं कि लगभग 2 मिलियन वर्ष पहले मनुष्य हिमाचल प्रदेश की तलहटी में रहता था। कांगड़ा की बंगाना घाटी, नालागढ़ की सिरसा घाटी और सिरमौर की नारकंडा घाटी वे स्थान हैं जहाँ प्रागैतिहासिक व्यक्ति रहा करते थे। राज्य की तलहटी सिंधु घाटी सभ्यता के लोगों द्वारा बसाई गई थी जो 2250 और 1750 ईसा पूर्व के समय के बीच पनपी थी। इंडस वैली सभ्यता से पहले यहाँ रहने के लिए कोली, होली, कयामत और चन्नन का उपयोग किया जाता है। आर्य राजा देवदास और किरात के राजा शंभर के बीच प्रसिद्ध युद्ध का उल्लेख ऋग्वेद में मिलता है। राजा शंभर के पास आधुनिक हिमाचल के मध्य हिमालयी क्षेत्र में 99 किले थे। उन्हें 40 साल तक चले युद्ध को हारना पड़ा।

मध्यकालीन इतिहास

883 ई। के लगभग 8 ई। में कश्मीर के शासक ने हिमाचल प्रदेश पर अपना प्रभाव डाला। इस क्षेत्र ने 1009 ईस्वी में महमूद गजनी के आक्रमण को भी देखा, जिसने उस अवधि के दौरान उत्तर भारत में मंदिरों से धन लूट लिया। 1043 ई। में राजपूतों ने इस क्षेत्र पर शासन किया। संसार चंद (सी। 1765-1823) 1773 ई। में कटोच महाराजा संसार चंद- II के अधीन राजपूतों ने इस क्षेत्र पर कब्जा कर लिया, जब तक कि 1804 में महाराजा रणजीत सिंह के हमले ने राजपूत सत्ता को कुचल दिया। छोटे राज्य ने उत्तरी भारत में मुस्लिम आक्रमणों की पूर्व संध्या तक बड़ी मात्रा में स्वतंत्रता का आनंद लिया। तलहटी के राज्य मुस्लिम आक्रमणकारियों द्वारा कई बार तबाह हुए थे। महमूद गजनवी ने 10 वीं शताब्दी की शुरुआत में कांगड़ा पर विजय प्राप्त की। तैमूर और सिकंदर लोदी ने भी राज्य की निचली पहाड़ियों से होते हुए कई किलों पर कब्जा कर लिया और कई लड़ाइयाँ लड़ीं। गोरखा, एक मार्शल जनजाति नेपाल में 1768 में सत्ता में आई थी। उन्होंने अपनी सैन्य शक्ति को मजबूत किया और अपने क्षेत्र का विस्तार करना शुरू किया। गोरखाओं ने नेपाल से मार्च किया और क्षेत्र पर कब्जा कर लिया। [१] धीरे-धीरे गोरखाओं ने सिरमौर और शिमला पर कब्जा कर लिया। बड़ा काजी (जनरल के समकक्ष) अमर सिंह थापा के नेतृत्व में, गोरखाओं ने कांगड़ा की घेराबंदी की। वे 1806 में कांगड़ा के शासक संसार चंद को हराने में कामयाब रहे। हालांकि, गोरखा 1809 में महाराजा रणजीत सिंह के अधीन आने वाले कांगड़ा किले पर कब्जा नहीं कर सके। 83 ई। शंकर वर्मा, कश्मीर के शासक ने हिमाचल प्रदेश पर अपने प्रभाव का प्रयोग किया। इस क्षेत्र ने 1009 ईस्वी में महमूद गजनी के आक्रमण को भी देखा, जिसने उस अवधि के दौरान उत्तर भारत में मंदिरों से धन लूट लिया। 1043 ई। में राजपूतों ने इस क्षेत्र पर शासन किया।

ब्रिटिश काल

1857 का विद्रोह या स्वतंत्रता का पहला भारतीय युद्ध ब्रिटिश सरकार के खिलाफ राजनीतिक, सामाजिक, आर्थिक, धार्मिक और सैन्य शिकायतों के निर्माण के कारण हुआ। पहाड़ी राज्यों के लोग राजनीतिक रूप से जीवित नहीं थे क्योंकि देश के अन्य हिस्सों में लोग थे। [२] वे कमोबेश निष्क्रिय रहे और ऐसा ही उनके शासकों ने बुशहर के अपवाद के साथ किया।

उनमें से कुछ ने विद्रोह के दौरान ब्रिटिश सरकार की मदद भी की। इनमें चंबा, बिलासपुर, भागल और धामी के शासक थे। बुशहर के शासकों ने बल्कि ब्रिटिशों के हितों के साथ शत्रुतापूर्ण व्यवहार किया।
1858 की रानी विक्टोरिया की घोषणा के बाद पहाड़ी क्षेत्र में ब्रिटिश क्षेत्र ब्रिटिश क्राउन के तहत आए। चंबा, मंडी और बिलासपुर राज्यों ने ब्रिटिश शासन के दौरान कई क्षेत्रों में अच्छी प्रगति की। प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान, पहाड़ी राज्यों के लगभग सभी शासक वफादार बने रहे और उन्होंने पुरुषों और सामग्रियों दोनों के रूप में ब्रिटिश युद्ध के प्रयासों में योगदान दिया। इनमें कांगड़ा, नूरपुर, चंबा, सुकेत, मंडी और बिलासपुर राज्य शामिल थे।

स्वतंत्रता के बाद स्वतंत्रता के बाद मुख्य आयुक्त के प्रांत एच.पी. 15 अप्रैल 1948 को अस्तित्व में आया। हिमाचल भारत के संविधान के कार्यान्वयन के साथ सितंबर 1951 में एक भाग सी राज्य बन गया। 1 नवंबर 1956 को हिमाचल प्रदेश केंद्र शासित प्रदेश बना। 18 दिसंबर 1970 को हिमाचल प्रदेश राज्य अधिनियम संसद द्वारा पारित किया गया और नया राज्य 25 जनवरी 1971 को अस्तित्व में आया। इस प्रकार एच.पी. भारतीय संघ के अठारहवें राज्य के रूप में उभरा। ग्रेटर नेपाल के नाम के तहत, नेपाल में कुछ लोगों ने नेपाल द्वारा पूर्व में वापस किए गए राज्यों की वापसी के लिए कहा है जो ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी द्वारा एनेक्स किए गए थे। हालाँकि, इस गति के लिए बहुत कम समर्थन इन क्षेत्रों में मौजूद है।
