The Bataan Death March (Tagalog: Martsa ng Kamatayan sa Bataan, Japanese: Batān Shi no Kōshin), which began on April 9, 1942, was the forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of 60,000–80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war after the three-month Battle of Bataan in the Philippines during World War II. All told, approximately 2,500–10,000 Filipino and 100–650 American prisoners of war died before they could reach their destination at Camp O'Donnell. The reported death tolls vary, especially amongst Filipino POWs, because historians cannot determine how many prisoners blended in with the civilian population and escaped. The march went from Mariveles, Bataan, to San Fernando, Pampanga. From San Fernando, survivors were loaded to a box train and they were brought to Camp O'Donell in Capas, Tarlac.
It is the capital city of Bataan. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 87,920 people. Its citizens are called Balangueños. Balanga City is primarily a residential-agricultural city. It has a total land area of 11,163 hectares (8.13% of Bataan).

Balanga, the capital of Bataan, was formerly a visita of Abucay before it was established as a mission of the Dominican Order in the Provincial Chapter of April 21, 1714 and later declared a vicariate on April 18, 1739, under the patronage of Saint Joseph. Upon the establishment of Bataan as a separate province in 1754, Balanga was made its capital by General Pedro Manuel Arandia due to its favorable location, at the heart of the new territorial jurisdiction.
The word Balanga originates from the Kapampangan word "balañga" (clay pot, or "banga" in Tagalog), which the town used to produce and which was among the best that can be found in the country.
On December 30, 2000, Balanga was inaugurated as City by the Republic Act 8984 authored by Congressman Enrique "Tet" Garcia - Tet Garcia.
Today, Balanga has just recently been transformed into a City. Prior to this development, the City has extended its urban fringe to west of Roman Superhighway and a new growth center in Barangay Tuyo has been delineated in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. During the past years, the city saw a high record of residential growth. The consequent expansion of the physical limits of the urban core as well as the expected large increases in population, and its attractiveness to commercial and employment activities, the City Government of Balanga decided to undertake a Master Planning exercise and to propose various developmental projects that would establish Balanga as a well-planned community with quality and character that is innovative and special, although this is currently hindered by an unreliable electricity supply.

The mention of Bataan rings a memorable chord in the heart of every Filipino. It is today a symbol of democracy and freedom having been the last fortress of Filipino-American soldiers against the Japanese forces until it fell captive on April 9, 1942.

Obscure and relatively unknown before World War 11, Bataan was founded in 1754 by Governor General Pedro Manuel Arandia. Before this the region was divided into two parts. The Correggimiebto of Mariveles, Bagac, Morong and Maragondong, Cavite compressed the Corregimiento de Mariveles which was under the jurisdictionof the Recollect Order of the Roman Catholic Church. The Province of Pampanga included the towns of Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Abucay, Samal, Orani, Llana Hermosa and San Juan de Dinalupihan. The Group was under the charge of the Dominican Order.

Bataan has had more than its share of significant historical events. In 1647, the Dutch naval forces perpetrated the Abucay Massacre, the decended Chines Limahong used Lusong point at the western side of Bataan as a launching place; the Bataan Death March to Capas, Tarlac which started in the Municipality of Mariveles and Bagac. Today, a touching commemorative shrine marks the spot called Zero Kilometer Marker at Poblacion, Mariveles. The Shrine is depicted by a bayonet thrust to the ground with a helmet, symbolically slun over the rifle butt. An imposing Dambana ng Kagitingan memorial cross on the top of Mt. Samat in Pilar, Bataan is dedicated to the memory of those who resisted the Japanese occupation.

Bataan is a province faced with a challenge. It stands on the verge of an extensive industrialization program which may well be the equivalent of the dynamic force it exuded in its heroic past.

Hermosa is a first class municipality in the province of Bataan, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 56,997 people. "Hermosa" means "beautiful" in Spanish. It has a total land area of 15,700 hectares (39,000 acres).
Hermosa is accessible via the Bataan Provincial Expressway, off Exit 10.

According to legend, a group of Spaniards first came to this place, surprised and amazed they exclaimed, "Que Hermosa! Que Hermosa!", when they saw some pretty maidens with long, black hair washing clothes and bathing in the brook. The boys who accompanied their sisters repeated what they heard from the Spaniards and upon returning home they repeated again and again what the Spaniards exclaimed. When the next group of Spaniards visited the place, they asked for its name. The folks didn't understand Spanish but answered "Hermosa, Hermosa". And that was how Hermosa got its name.
When the province was created, the town was formally named Hermosa, a name that fits the place not only due to the plain's white flowers but more so to the beautiful maidens and places that abound the town.

Historically, the town was established in 1756 by the Dominican priests. At that time, it was known as Llana Hermosa and composed of Mabuco and Mabuyan. It was then still part of Pampanga, like the rest of Bataan. It became an independent missionary center in 1756 with St. Peter de Verona as its patron saint.
The town of Hermosa was very peaceful and progressive before World War II. When the war broke out, their quiet routine was disturbed. In the famous Bataan Death March, civilians of Hermosa risked the ire of the Japanese by secretly passing food to Filipino and American soldiers.

"Dinalupijan" came from the festival rights of "Aeta" pygmies. To commemorate their idol "Idianalo", the goddess of hunting and bountiful harvest."Indianalo" was paired with the Sanskrit word "jann", meaning paradise. The name "Dinalupihan" means "empty lands", coming from the Spanish terms din, a, and lupia. It referred to the fact that it failed to produce little revenue while it was an estate of the Archdiocese of Manila during the second half of the 18th century.
