Dylan Performs At The NAACP Theatre Awards

I love my actor roommate Dylan, but sometimes the boy does the craziest shit.

For example, last week, he performed at the 18th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. And by the way...he isn't black.

On the left hand side is a photo of him and his actress friend Marliss Amiea at the awards show. Their musical City Kid was nominated for six awards that night and they got the opportunity to perform a number from it on the show. Unfortunately, their play didn't win, but their choreographer Bradley Rapier won in his category.

Actors Kimberly Elise (John Q, Beloved) and Anthony Anderson (Transformers, Law and Order) hosted the Award show - that celebrated the contributions and accomplishments of African-American actors to the theatre arts. And from what Dylan told me it was a stellar show.

Vivica A. Fox was given the Spirit award for achievement. (the photo below is of her and Eva Pigford from America's Next Top Model).

Among those on hand were Jason Alexander, Loretta Devine, Morris Chestnut, Barry Manilow, Malinda Williams, David E. Talbert, Terri J. Vaughn, Jill Marie Jones, Vanessa Williams, Clifton Powell, Tichina Arnold, Eva Marcelle and Vivica A. Fox, Randy Jackson, Ananda Lewis, Toccara and Malcolm-Jamal Warner. In other words, it was quite a star-studded event.

Congrats to all the winners and to my roomie for having the cojones to get up on that stage and perform in front of such a talented crowd. I'm not too sure I could do it myself.

Oscar Arrives At Universal's New Exhibit

Earlier this week I told you that Universal Studios Hollywood was going to inaugurate “The Universal Experience: Behind the Scenes of Universal Pictures,” exhibit with the arrival the “Best Picture” Oscar® statuette for The Sting via armored truck.

Well, here are a few fun photos from the event that my trust photographer David Arias took last Tuesday at the Entertainment Capitol of L.A.

He also took some incredible photos of a few of the other cool items on display at the studios' new movie memorabilia attraction - located next to The Mummy ride.

I just love a good comedy.

Especially when it's written by the fabulous Neil Simon (The Odd Couple, Plaza Suite) and has an all-star cast.

The Q Guide to Charlie's Angels

Once upon a time there were one little boy who loved the classic TV series Charlie’s Angels…his name was Mike Pingel.

He loved the show SO much that he wrote a book about it called The Q Guide To Charlie’s Angels from Alyson Publication (the leading Gay book publisher) and it hit stores today!

The new book features new interviews with shows stars Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith (my personal favorite 'Angel'), Cheryl Ladd and Tanya Roberts (who also has written the books foreword).

'The Graduate' Starts Summer Tour In L.A.

The indie band The Graduate - who have gone from virtual unknowns to gracing the cover of CMJ Magazine in a matter of just a few short months - is on tour this Summer in support of their album Anhedonia.

They have been touring for the greater part of the last year with the likes of Jack’s Mannequin and Simple Plan.

If you haven’t caught a performance yet, fans have another chance this Summer during their extensive US tour starting at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on July 11th!

'Holding Trevor' Opens This Weekend

If you thought "Sex And The City - The Movie" was the gayest movie you've seen this summer, thus far, you ain't seen nothing yet.

The gay romantic feature film "Holding Trevor" is about to open in theaters this July 4th weekend.

Holding Trevor Film Description: Trevor Holden (Brent Gorski) has just witnessed his boyfriend Darrell (Christopher Wyllie) overdose on heroin--again. And as his oldest friend, Trevor feels a responsibility to help Darrell in his latest attempt at sobriety, much to the dismay of his own best friends Jake (Jay Brannan) and Andie (Melissa Searing). But, when Darrell starts using again Trevor is finally ready to call it quits. And just when he does, he meets the ever so charming Ephram (Eli Kranski). Simply being everything that Darrell is not immediately wins Ephram a number of points. As Trevor’s relationship with Ephram quickly progresses, it starts to put a strain on his friendships with Jake and Andie. Jake, the self-proclaimed sex-addict, is starting to worry a little bit about his past catching up with him, namely in the form of HIV. And Andie, who drunkenly ends her sexual dry spell with a one-night stand, realizes that Jake might have less to worry about than she does. Meanwhile, Ephram accepts a job thousands of miles away in New York City, and he wants Trevor to go with him. Now, what started out as Trevor’s own personal existential journey, turns into a path that will lead everyone to what is most important: themselves.

In short, the film is continually poignant, relentlessly self-deprecating, and just the type of cerebral dark comedy that can speak directly to the twenty-somethings of today while letting other generations in on the joke.

As most of you already know, I love anything having to do with Hollywood history.

For example, on Tuesday, July 1st the “Best Picture” Oscar® statuette for The Sting will inaugurate “The Universal Experience: Behind the Scenes of Universal Pictures,” arriving via armored truck and flanked by police motorcycle escorts as The Entertainment Capital of L.A. celebrates its historic movie heritage with a new movie memorabilia attraction and its first-ever Oscar® display.

The Oscar® statuette will take center stage within “The Universal Experience,” which features a vast collection of never-before-seen props, costumes, wardrobes, artifacts and special effects pulled from the archives of Universal Pictures’ award-winning movies and impressive library of over 6,000 titles dating back to the Studio’s early beginning in 1913 to modern day.

Other noteworthy artifacts will include Anthony Perkin’s jacket from Psycho, original matte paintings from Alfred Hitchcock’s Torn Curtain and The Birds, Keira Knightley and James McAvoy’s costumes from Atonement, Anthony Hopkins’ mask and costume from Hannibal and Roy Schieder’s police uniform from Jaws, to name a few.

Have you seen the trailer for the new comedy spoof film "Disaster Movie" yet?

Not only does it look absolutely hysterical, but my very close friend Jason Boegh is prominently featured in it! He's the one who plays the Carrie Bradshaw type character that has a fight with the pregnant chick in the alley. LOL

The movie also stars Nicole Parker, Carmen Electra, Kimberly Kardashian, Matt Lanter and Vanessa Minnillo. It's scheduled to be released by Lionsgate on August 29, 2008.

Get 'On The Wagon' This Weekend

HOWDY FOLKS! There's a hysterical musical fundraiser taking place this weekend at the West Hollywood Auditorium on San Vicente Blvd. (next to the public swimming pool, just above Melrose, just across the street from the Pacific Design Center and behind The Abbey) that you need to check out It's a musical take-off on Westerns called "On The Wagon" that benefits the West Hollywood Recovery Center.

There are two shows on Saturday, June 21st at 6pm and 8pm and one show on Sunday, June 22nd at 4pm.

Tickets are $20...$30...and $50. There are no reservations they are only sold at door so get there early.

Case in point - my extremely funny girlfriend Rebekah Kochan (who I worked with on the film Eating Out 2) is being featured in a huge comedy show at the Hollywood Improv on Tuesday, June 24th at 8pm which is sure to have you rolling in the aisles.

The night is part of the National Lampoon Most Wanted Comedy monthly showcase at the Improv and it also features the hysterical Dante from Last Comic Standing, Jay Davis from HBO's Tourgasm, Ken Pringle of Chuckle Monkey, Dino Shorte from Comedy Central, Anthony Ramos from BET and Latino Laugh Festivaland the winners of the Funniest Comic in LA contest Michael Joiner and Bart Tangredi

As some of you already know, for the past three weeks, yours truly has been working his ass off searching for insane and unusual acts to cast on Comedy Central's "The Gong Show."

Hosted by comedian Dave Attell, the show will follow the same format of the original as a panel of celebrity judges weigh in on amateur performing acts trying to get their big break.

Anyway, now that we've found all of our acts and we're getting ready to tape the show....I wanted to let all my close friends (meaning you) know that tickets are now available at the On Camera Audiences website for those of you interested in being a part of our live studio audience!!!

Warren Beatty, Julie Christie and Goldie Hawn star in this brilliant satire of Beverly Hills in the late 60s. Hal Ashby (Harold and Maude) directs with his usual bittersweet stroke, against a backdrop of great LA locations, swinging sixties characters, and seminal 70s cinematography.

Altman's achingly gorgeous love letter to the old west. Beatty is an ex-gunfighter starting over as an enterprising gambler in a small northwestern town. He builds a gambling hall and calls in madame/expert Julie Christie to operate the whorehouse. They soon find they have more in common than just entrepreneurial spirit. Beautiful sun-flared photography, lush forest, and handmade sets weave an opium-tinged tapestry of rugged, rural charm. One of Altman's masterpieces and easily one of the best movies of the 70s.

Where No Gay Man Or Woman Has Gone Before

Tomorrow, on the historic first day that marriage licenses will be offered to gay and lesbian couples in California, Star Trek’s George Takei and his partner Brad Altman (pictured on the left) will be among the first to get their license.

They will join West Hollywood City Council members and others for the opening of the facility where hundreds are expected to get a license, and where many will have a marriage ceremony, in beautifully decorated marriage cabanas, officiated by West Hollywood City Council members.

Licenses will be issued and civil marriages will be performed from 9am until 5pm at West Hollywood Park (NOT City Hall) 647 N. San Vicente Blvd. (just south of Santa Monica Blvd.)

Congrats to all of you who are getting hitched tomorrow including Takei, 71, and Altman, 54, who have been together for 21 years. You are all boldly going where no gay man or woman has gone before.

Stars Come Out For "The Dogs Next Door" Event

Image spending the afternoon at a palatial Beverly Hills mansion with a slew of celebrities and their precious pups.

Such was the case, this past Saturday, as DogsInDanger.Com and Reality Cares joined forces to present a swanky fundraising event called "The Dogs Next Door" at the private estate of Michael Scott in Beverly Park!

Celebrities and reality stars from today's hottest shows enjoyed delicious foods, sipped cocktails and lounged poolside to raise money for DogsInDanger, an animal welfare organization that was recently featured on “Oprah” for their hard work in raising awareness of just how many dogs are currently being killed in shelters.

The event was hosted by DogsInDanger spokesperson Shana Wall of The Amazing Race and emceed by Jai Rodriguez (pictured on the left) of Groomer Has It. It also featured the fun-tastic sounds of DJ Dimitri Hamlin, a "Doggie fashion show" and several fun activities for all us lucky folks in attendance.

"Dark Shadows" Resurrected In Burbank

Attention "DARK SHADOWS" fans! It's time to resurrect your favorite gothic soap.

That's right...the 2008 Dark Shadows Festival will be taking place on July 18-20 2008 right here in sunny California at the Burbank Airport Hotel and Convention Center!

Held annually since 1983, usually in New York, this fang-tastic convention features appearances by cast and crew in question and answer sessions and autograph sessions, a banquet with the stars, a memorabilia room of Dark Shadows merchandise for sale, performances by the stars and more.

Ever since it was widely reported that Johnny Depp's production company Infinitum-Nihil and Graham King's GK Films are developing a new Dark Shadows feature film, in association with Warner Bros interest in the classic spooky vampire tale has risen, so there should be quite a large crowd there.

FYI - The Festival has scored a considerable coup by tempting actor Jonathan Frid (pictured on the left) to make a rare convention appearance for this celebration. The celebrated actor, who originated the role of Barnabus, last attended a Festival in 1993.

Admission for the convention is only $30.00 for all 3 days or $15 for one day. Children 6-12 half price. You must send your payment with a membership form.
