A Valentine's Day Poem From An Elementary School Student

Hey Everyone,

I can't believe that tomorrow is Valentine's Day already. I guess all these major snow storms we have been getting made time fly. Anyway, when I was in fifth grade, I wrote a poem called Love. It was an assignment for English to create a poem. I won a poetry contest in school for this poem. Since I have always received many positive comments about this poem I wanted to share it with my readers. I felt since Valentine's Day is not far, it would be an appropriate time to share it.

The Significance Of Color In Our Everyday Life

Did you know that each color has a specific meaning to it, as well as an emotion behind it? Most people do not realize this when choosing colors in our day to day lives.

For example, most of us probably don't think about what the color of our daily outfit communicates to others. We simply pick out something from our closet in the morning, making sure the colors match nicely, add some matching accessories (well if you are a woman), and out the door we go with out a second thought.

Today I want to give you a brief introduction into what I have learned about the meaning of color. Since there is so much information about this topic, I simply could not put it all into one post without boring you to death. lol! So here is a list with the meaning of each color:

Red - power, passion, energy, vitality, aggressive, assertive, lust, madness, luck, pain
Burgundy - sense of self worth, deserving, luxury
Orange - encouragement, motivation, creativity, competence, communication
Yellow - warning, alert, joy, inspiration, stimulation, brightness, intelligence
Green - environment, outdoors, natural, clean, adventurous, renewal, freshness
Blue - honestly, sincerity, loyal, reliability, balanced, calming, peace, protection
Purple - knowledge, intelligence, artistic, compassionate
Black - Strength, power, elegance, death, evil, mystery
White - peace, purity, innocence, perfection

Smart Goal Setting Tips

Hey Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed your holiday season. Now that the New Year is here, I decided it was time to set some new goals for myself. If you are like me, you most likely have tons of things you would like to do in your life (job, health, self improvement, etc.), and don't know where to start. Therefore, I decided I would post about some tips and tricks I use to help make my goals more attainable and realistic.

First I want to show you some really neat goal setting printables I found on the Buttoned Up® website. First there is a master goal sheet. I really liked this worksheet, as I was able to write down all the goals I wish to work on.

Want to learn a new skill? Try taking a Free Craftsy Class. You could also try some of the many other classes Craftsy offers for a reasonable price. Here are some that I recommend:

I am currently taking the Scrapbooking With Style: Clean and Simple layouts on Craftsy. So far I really love it. However, I will write more about my experience in a separate post. Now back to goal setting. Here are some tips about smart goal setting. When setting a goal I always use the "SMART" method.

Specific: Be very specific. If you write a goal that is very broad, it is less likely you will complete it. For example instead if writing I want to lose weight, write I want to lose 10 pounds.

Measurable: When setting a goal make sure you are able to assess your goals on a regular basis. In order to do this, you need to be able to measure or keep track in some way. Using the weight loss example again, write I would like to lose ten pounds by April 1st. This way you will be able to track your progress.

Attainable: Make sure you set realistic goals. If you set a goal to lose 50 pounds in one month, that's not going to happen. It can cause you more frustration. So be realistic.

Relevant: Do your goals have significance in your personal life? Will you actually be able to take the time to do the small tasks needed to reach your overall goal?

Timely: Again, set a deadline. As I said before, you will not only be able to track your progress, but having a deadline seems to help.

Finally, some other good ideas is to give yourself an incentive. For example, if I walk for 30 minutes a day, I can eat one sweet treat a week. Also, make sure you have support. Especially if you are trying to achieve something difficult like weight loss or some other major life goal. Plus you can have them help you be accountable or even cheer-lead you.

A Favorite Holiday Casserole Recipe

Hey Everyone!!

How is everyone coming along with their Christmas plans? I tend to wait till last minute. I know, it's not the best thing to do. I guess I work better under pressure...lol! Anyway I wanted to share with you today one of my favorite recipes that I always serve during the holidays. It is a simple casserole that you could actually serve at any time. It is just a tradition in my family to make a green bean casserole as well as this yummy vegetable casserole as our veggie sides. My mother found this recipe years ago and it has been a hit ever since. Again it is really simple so even if you can't cook well, this should be easy to make. Now for the recipe.....

Vegetable Casserole

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Servings: 4 servings

Bake Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

• 1 can (10 3/4 oz.) Campbell's ® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup

• 1/3 cup of sour cream

• 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper

• 1 16 oz. bag of frozen vegetable combination (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), thawed

• 1 2.8 can french fried onions (will need 1 1/3 cup)

• 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese (4 oz.)

Directions

1.) Stir the soup, sour cream, black pepper, vegetables, 2/3 cup of the onions and 1/2 cup of the cheese in a 2 quart casserole dish. Then cover.

2.) Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes or until the vegetables are tender. Remove from oven and stir.

3.) Sprinkle the remaining cheese and onions on the top of the casserole. Bake for 5 minutes more or until the onions are golden.

4.) Remove from oven and Enjoy!!

Now let me get started with the party. First I want to introduce the hostess of the party Tammy Adams of Paisley Lizard Designs. Tammy specializes in a wide range of handmade jewelry, buttons and gift tags. Her jewelry designs consists of rustic, nature inspired, elegant and more. How To Take A Screenshot Of An Etsy Treasury To Be Shared on Social Media Sites

I have been asked by some readers how I create the screenshot of the Etsy treasuries I curate. For example, I curated this "Handmade in Purple" treasury last night. Here is a screenshot that I created and shared on Facebook and some other social media sites.

Now, there are many ways in which you can do this. I will explain them all. However, the way that I find to be the most easiest is to simply press Ctrl + P on your keyboard. A screen to print the entire page should come up. It should look similar to this picture.

Next I use Lightshot screenshot tool to highlight and save the area of the page I want, which is the treasury itself. Lightshot also give you the option to upload the area you highlighted as well instead of saving it as a picture. If you choose this option, you will receive a link for your uploaded picture. Simply share the link with what ever social media site you are using. However, be careful not to forget to add the link to the treasury page itself. The link from Lightshot is only to the picture of the treasury.

Instead of using the link, I find it easier to manually upload the picture from my computer (others may find the link easier). For example, I manually upload the picture to my Facebook page and then provide the link to the treasury page in the description area. This is just my preference though.

Another way to take a screenshot is to create the treasury using the Brittany's Best app. This app will save 16 items by providing a box or chest (see below) next to the "favorite heart" on Etsy. Once you have 16 items simply press create, and your treasury is created automatically without having to flip through pages. Once the treasury is created, look under "curator tools" on the bottom right column of the page. You have the option to save the screen using the app. Plus you can send notifications to the featured shops in one message.

The easiest way I know of creating a screenshot is by using Etsy Treasury Tool. I just recently learned about this tool. Basically you just enter the treasury ID, then the number of columns and size you would like the picture to be. Then you just copy and paste the code into where you would like the treasury to be, and that's it.

Hey Everyone,

I know it's been a while since I have written a post. Therefore, I thought I would update you on what is going on in my life. The past two months of my life have been very complex and demanding. It has been a time of uncertainty, defeat, desperation, enlightenment and of self actualization. It has truly has been one of the most difficult times in my life, and the end is no where in sight at this time. One thing after another, with no time to rest.

I won't get into detail of what happened however I would like to ask you all a favor, and pray for my father. He is currently sitting in a hospital bed after a major heart attack last week. The prognosis is not looking good, and I am not ready for my father to be taken from me. If you could do that I would really appreciate it so much.

I will keep you updated, but for now every second is a gift and I must use it wisely.

Hello Everyone,
I hope you are all enjoying this wonderful weather we have been having the past few days. I know I have. I'm so glad spring is here. For me it is such a wonderful, cheerful time of year. Which brings me to another joyful thing happening in my life right now. As you all know in December of 2012, I opened a shop on Etsy called Bracelets By Jen. The first years was not the best, however we all need to start somewhere. This year has been better, especially over the last month or so. I finally am starting to feel as though all my hard work is paying off. Instead of one customer a month, I am having on average 1-3 sales a week. Also, on my mother's birthday I had six sales. I could not believe it. I can't even begin to tell you the joy I felt. I am sharing my Etsy story with you because there was a time I was going to close shop because I was having no sales. Plus when I read the forums on Etsy, I am always seeing a new seller ready to give up. Well my advice to all you new sellers is DON'T GIVE UP! Hang in there, and you will see progress.

I am not where I would like to be yet, however I have made great progress with my shop. Therefore, as my way of saying thank you to all my wonderful customers & fans now through May 31, 2014 I am having a sale in my shop, Bracelets By Jen. Everything in my shop is 10% off the regular price including custom orders. There is no coupon needed, as all my items have already been marked down.

A Milestone, and a Giveaway to Celebrate It!!

Last Tuesday, I hit the 50 sales milestone in my shop on Etsy, Bracelets By Jen. I can't begin to express how excited I am. Last year was a slow year in my shop with only 26 sales the entire year. However, in just a little over four months I have surpassed last years sales!! =) It really make me feel like my shop is starting to take off. As many of you may have noticed I have been putting a lot of time and effort into marketing. I have taken advice from more experienced sellers, and have been much more active in my teams. Well it has payed off!! I really want to thank all my wonderful fans, my friends and family who have helped and supported me to this point. I would also like to give a special that you to the members of The All Handmade By Me Team on Etsy. I can't say enough about how helpful everyone on this team is. I am honored to be a leader of this fantastic team.

Now for the fun part. How to Create a Blog Button with a Grab Box

Hello Everyone,

Today I am going to show you how to create a Blog button with a grab box below. This tutorial should work on most blog platforms that allow you to add custom HTML widgets. You can place your widget either on your blog sidebar or footer. Personally, I like to have my blog button on my sidebar. I feel that it is easier to find that way. However, do what works best for you.

STEP 1: First off you are going to need an image with a size under 200x200px. You can have a larger one if you choose, however most people are more likely to use your button if it is on the smaller size. Ideally, the size of your button should be either 125x125px or 150x150px. I find that these sizes are the most commonly used. My blog button is 150x150px. Now you can create a blog button image using Photoshop, however personally I use PicMonkey. Once you have created your image, you are ready for the next step.

STEP 2: Next you will need to upload your image to a image hosting service like Picasa or Photobucket. Once you have successfully uploaded your image, you must get the image URL to use in the widget code.

STEP 3: Grab the button code below.

STEP 4

URL of your button image: Replace my image URL with yours.

Name of your Blog: Replace my blog name with yours.

Blog address: Replace my blog web address with yours.

Size: If you did not use a 150x150px image, then you need to change the height and the width to the size of your image.

STEP5

Next select the entire code (with your information) and place it where you would like the button to appear. If you are using Blogger you would go to layout, press "add gadget", scroll down to HTML/Javascript and paste the code.

Finally, you may want to do a button test to make sure that it is working properly. That's it! Now other bloggers can "grab" your button and display it on their blog.

Celebration Giveaway

Hello Everyone,
I want to share some very exciting new with you. First, I would like everyone to know that my one year anniversary of opening my Etsy shop, Bracelets By Jen, is coming up on December 12, 2013.

I have many plans for my shop in the new year. I will be changing the name of my shop because I have some new and exciting products I am going to add. I will not just be selling bracelets anymore. The embroidery macrame friendship bracelets will still be a huge part of my shop. However, I just felt it was time to make some changes. So keep an eye out for the name of my new shop after the new year!!!

Next I wanted to share with you a milestone I have reached on my Facebook page. I am very excited about this one. Just a few days ago, my Facebook page reached 100 likes!!! Yay!!!
I am very grateful for the support I have received from both my fans and customers over the past year. It makes me feel good that I can create something that will put a smile on someone's face.
