Bigger Boss, a regular guest and a true part of the family, has scoured the globe for the tastiest skinhead cuts that will get even the meanest cuss on the floor to stomp his/ her boots.

I go almost as far back as Ted there and have spun records for many different clubs and bands.

In this episode we bring to an end the interviews with Roger Steffens aka Ras Rojah (as Bob Marley used to call him). Take a listen to this interview along with the other two parts of this incredible three part series. Allen did an awesome job of interviewing Roger then editing the interviews for our listening pleasure.

MOTHER B. TAPE REEL ONE (1977)
This tape is one of two ten inch reels found by Cedella Booker, Bob Marley’s mother, also called Mother B in 1981. Not proper stored both tapes remained untouched until May 11th, 1989, the eighth anniversary of Bob Marley’s death. Then they were restored as best as possible to reveal two hours of music. The songs of Reel 1 were recorded in his bedroom at his mother’s house in Vista Lane, Miami ca. October 1977 with Bob Marley singing and playing acoustic guitar. The tapes were restored by Roger Steffens. Reel 1 seems to be from 1977. Reel 2 is recorded at Tuff Gong Studios during the sessions for Uprising in 1980. Until 2001 or later this tape was unavailable. Songs are Copyright 1990 Cedella Booker Marley.

This early recording shows that Bob Marley had this song written in 1977 but waited until 1980 to record it in a studio. Desi Smith confirmed that “We and Them” was written in 1977.

Gilly Dread, Marley´s personal chef (whatever that means) and owner of I-Kus recording studio tells, Bob attempted reconciliation with Lee Perry in the summer of 1975 and did some studio sessions over a period of three or four Sundays with lee Perry´s band, not with The Wailers to record six titles. In line with the later listed six versions of the tracks these would have fit to a fine album of what we now know four songs and their versions. If one of the trade instrumentals is the one mentioned here is unknown. Finally we learn there would be one more vocal track of Bob Marley “Forward On” to look forward to. Maybe this tape isn´t lost, as all the other songs finally appeared. Let´s see if such an album ever will be released.

Do The Dog strikes again with another EP. This time it’s a split between two up and coming bands on the UK scene, Captain Black No Stars and Rasta4Eyes. Each band brings in a fresh approach to to the ska and reggae sound. They do their own thing and do it well.
The bands are represented by four songs a piece with Captain Black No Stars taking the first half with their catchy hooks, bouncy chords, and sharp keyboard driven sound. They hark back to the early days with the tune “Rivers Of Blood” where they version “54-46 Was My Number” and give it some new flare.

These guys are no one trick pony. “The Lighter Song” stands out like a sore thumb where they give us a sound reminiscent of The Nail’s 88 Lines About 44 Women in the beat of ska. This one has been stuck in my head for weeks! It’s got all the right stuff. They do some reggae, some ska, and a nice dub track all under an anti-establishment theme.

Rasta4Eyes comes in on the next half with a more upbeat in your face sound. The fierce brass section blazes over smooth grooves and wicked guitar licks that can energize any room in a heartbeat. They are introduced by the song “Oscar and Arthur” that drives straight through the brain, throbbing and pulsating, vibrating and you get the picture right? Their ability to speed things up and slow it down on a dime shine on “The Herb” well “Good Old Rock N Roll” shows how in touch they are with reality.

Both bands speak out about social and political issues and aren’t afraid to state their opinions out loud. Their feelings really come through in the music. No fluff just straight forward punk ethos expressed through ska and reggae influences.
