I must admit its hard for me to decide between David, Eric, Doug or Julio. So many men to choose from! But Doug's pink iridescent gloss seals the deal. Problem solved.

Beauty Lab Creation: My Perfect Mascara

If I could create my very own mascara it would be like this.

I've been using both of these for quite sometime now. First, one swipe of the Dior and then seal with CoverGirl. Which is why I think combining the two would create my ultimate mascara.

I L-O-V-E the bristles of the DiorShow Mascara wand because it separates each lash perfectly. However, the formula is not dark enough and can dry-out super fast. On the other hand, the CoverGirl Professional Remarkable Waterproof Mascara has the perrrrrrrrrfect dark black color. Never flakes or smudges and the consistency is great too. So what's bad about it? The wand is small, bristles short creating a lot of clumping.

Hmmmmmmm well, maybe I'll take my chances and try some of these mascara wands (Qosmedix, Kosmetech, Amazon) with the CoverGirl Mascara.

Beauty Lab 101 Review: Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Cream

As you may remember, I wasn't completely satisfied with the Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash for treating my under-eye dark circle issue. So I decided to go online and do my research before I invested in another cream. A quick trip to Sephora.com for customer reviews and I was on my way to finding a better eye treatment. Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Cream caught my eye because they seemed to have really great reviews and it was within my price range, so I decided to give it a whirl.

Skyn Icelands claim:
Icelandic Relief Eye Cream delivers immediate relief to delicate under-eye skin. Puffiness, wrinkles and dark circles are minimized and skin is revived with a blend of soothing nutrients. Rice peptides help counteract the aging effects of stress and optical diffusers help to soften fine lines and brighten the eye area for a refreshed and wide-awake look.

Length of time: I have been using this for 3 months or so.
See a difference? YES! YES! YES!
Pros: Under-eye skin felt cool and calm. Puffiness and fine lines were minimized. Super hydrating and not greasy, so my makeup stayed on and didn't slide around. But best of all, my dark circles were less noticeable!
Recommend to a friend? Most definitely, this eye cream is my favorite so far. I will be buying another jar as soon as I run out.

The amazing stippling brush - a must-have!

Ever since I started wearing foundation, I've wanted it to look even, natural and of course - airbrushed! At first, I thought I had to wear the right foundation to achieve the look and I slathered on tons of liquid foundation. But after all the applications - still no flawless skin. Grrrrrrr.

Then came my "ah-ha!" moment - I realized application must be the key! So after hearing a lot of hype about the 187 Duo Fibre Brush from MAC Cosmetics, I had to give the stippling brush a try. But man were they expensive!

Luckily, MAC had a holiday kit with one in it, yay for me! I've played with it for a little while now and I am completely in L-O-V-E with it. Not only has it given me that wonderful airbrushed look, but it has saved me a ton of foundation. Gone are the days of sloppy foundation fingers and thirsty sponges that soak up waaaaaay too much of my precious Laura Mercier!

Beauty Lab 101 Salon Review: Polished Lounge

I spotted this place on my way to the CalTrain station one day. I tried to sneak-a-peek inside, but was in a hurry, so I convinced some of my co-workers to come with me later that week and give the Polished Lounge a try.

Here's what I loved about the place:
* Salon was calm and serene. I couldn't hear any noise from the outside world.
* Music was at a good volume, so that one could sit back and relax or have a conversation amongst friends (a plus!).
* Big, soft cushy chairs to sink into.
* Friendly staff immediately offered soda, tea and water. Bonus: A warm wrap for your neck.
* Candy dishes strewn across ottomans in the middle of the room.
* The BEST nail polish selection I have ever seen. I'm talking Essie, OPI, Creative, you name it, they had it in any color you could imagine. Love the color? No problem, they most likely have an unopened bottle available for purchase.
* Basic mani included softening soak, warm-lotion massage, cuticle care, file and shape, followed by buff and polish - all for $17 bucks! STEAL.

My hands looked BEAUTIFUL!

I highly recommend the Polished Lounge in San Francisco to anyone looking for a salon that is quiet and relaxing. And it's so cute, it will make you wanna hold a little afternoon tea party there!

Maybe I first took notice when my girl Carrie was wearing it in the Sex in The City movie. Maybe I saw it on the runways. Or maybe I was inspired by my friends wedding last month - it was peacock feather themed. In any case, I find myself dreaming about how I can fit this trend into my wardrobe, my style or better yet, get away with it at work without all the snickering as I walk by...

Short or long hair? Help me decide!

Hello my darlings,
As you know, last May I moved from Las Vegas to the Bay Area, which means more humidity for me. Yippie. Anyway, lately I have been extremely unhappy with my hair. Every morning I spend a substantial amount of time curling and styling only to have it frizz out by the time I make it down to the financial district of SF (picture me crying).

Just in case you are wondering, here is the most recent picture of my long hair. Most of the time I keep it in a pony tail or pulled back.--->

So here's where you come in. I need your help in deciding if I should chop it all off and enjoy the carefree world of low-maintenance hair (flat ironed of course) or keep trying anti-frizz products until one of them finally works.

If I were to go short, I think I would look for something that gives me the ability to style it funky or edgy once in awhile. My boyfriend likes it on the long side, so no pixie cut for me. I'm also not one to follow trends when it comes to my hair - it's always about me being happy first. Of course, if it gets chopped I will donate my hair to Locks of Love (hopefully they can make use of it) -thanks Lollie Shopping for the recommendation! Definitely gonna need a great stylist for this one.

UPDATE: I kept it long folks. Still searching for the perfect stylist to put some lovely layers into my locks.

Beauty Lab 101 Review: Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash

Once again, I found myself on another quest to find a new under-eye circle treatment cream. There I was, in the middle of the isle, debating between PeterThomasRoth Power K Eye Rescue and Dermadoctor Wrinkle Revenge Eye Balm. So I turned to a Sephora representative and asked for a suggestion. She showed me the Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash and said it was her favorite. And since I was on a budget, the price was just right. So I gave it a shot.

Here is what I thought...

Clarins claim:
Refreshes, Tightens, Brightens
A fresh, comfortable micro-gel which melts into the skin and acts like an invisible "radiance patch": it gently decongests, eliminating dark circles, puffiness and fine lines while hydrating and protecting the fragile skin of the eye contour.

Length of time: I have been using this product for 2+ Months
Pros: Kept my delicate under-eye skin moisturized. Wasn't sticky or hard to apply. The lotion went on even and very smoothly.
See a difference? Not really. Maybe this kept my skin moisturized so that I didn't get more wrinkles...?
Recommend to a friend? Although I wasn't completely satisfied with this product, I might recommend it to a friend if they were looking for a light eye moisturizer. Who knows, this product could end up working better for someone else.

I guess I will have to continue my search for the perfect under-eye cream. If any of you have suggestions, please let me know or if you have tried the ones above-leave a review on Sephora.com. Then we can all benefit from your trials!

Going to Vegas? Don't forget these 5 items

I just got back from a long, very long week in Las Vegas. I was in such a rush that I forgot to pack these 5 essential items. Boy oh boy, did I pay for it!! Let's hope you learn from my mistake and remember them!

1)Fat Girl Slim: It's hot, very hot, and we tend to show more skin in Vegas, so I need Fat Girl Slim most when I'm there. I can't believe I forgot it at home! This is my go-to slimming creme, my secret weapon! I am still shaking my head at this one!!!

2)Av eda Brilliant Humctant Pomade: This is perfect for my hair in dry climates like Vegas. When I don't have it with me, my hair is a dull, frizzy, lifeless mess. Ugh.

3)Rowenta Ultra Handheld Steambrush: This garment steamer is pretty easy to use when you are on vacation. It gets all those hard to reach places and is great with delicate fabrics too. Since I'm extremely careful with all my clothing, trusting them to another iron is very difficult - thank you Rowenta for solving this issue!

4)Nivea Skin Firming Moisturizer: This firms, tightens and moisturizes all in one. My skin drinks it up by the gallon in Vegas. However, I just moved from Vegas (mid-June) to Northern California and the water has made my skin so soft - I thought my skin was invincible! I guess that's why I forgot it.

5)WATER! WATER! WATER!: I stepped off the plane and got hit with a giant blow dryer. It was 109 degrees while I was there and it got hotter by the day. If there's one thing I've learned from living in Vegas, it's to have a bottle of water with you at all times. Aquafina is my favorite!!

A friend of mine, who is beginning her professional career, is looking to achieve a more sophisticated look with her makeup. She has done her shopping and has all the right products/tools, but she just needs to learn how to apply them. So I scoured the web for easy, step by step beauty tip and technique videos. These are the ones I liked best, but if you come across more please add them to comments!

I love TLC's Carmindy. She has always managed to make everyone look so beautiful and natural looking. Here is a great how-to video from Sephora Backstage Click Here. Plus she uses Benefit products in the video - love them!

Smashbox's Get the Look Smashbox is great about making kits with exclusive beauty tip DVDs. So it's no surprise that I went to their website for help. They didn't have a video for their looks on the site, but the step by step instructions in this gallery makes it easy. Plus they list all the products used to obtain the look.

You may also be able to locate more how-to tips and videos through Alltop. Alltop searches the web for all the top stories. Why isn't Beauty Lab 101 on Alltop you ask? Well, for now I would like to keep Beauty Lab 101 dedicated to sharing information with family & friends. Shhhhhh it's our little secret!

Oh yes and before I forget, Allure magazine is another great source - they even have pull-out cheat sheets!

Tip: Remember, if you see something you like - replicate it! Set aside time to practice and experiment with the different looks. That's how I started doing makeup. I would see an advertisement or runway show with a look that I loved and try to copy it. If it didn't suit me, oh well, makeup remover is an amazing thing!

The PedEgg Review

I wear 4 inch heels a lot, in fact, too much. Over time the pressure and friction from my heels have caused calluses. Hey, it happens to everyone. In the past, my nail tech would use a Tweezerman Callus Shaver and an emery pad to remove my calluses. The process was always ticklish and time consuming, so pedicures were never relaxing for me. When I saw the PedEgg commercial on TV, I had to try it--anything was better than being tickled to death twice a month. Cheesy late night infomercial aside, the PedEgg looked too good to be true but given a low price of under $10 bucks I was willing to take a chance.

I was in luck, they had them at Bed Bath & Beyond for $9.99. The package included 1 file and 2 emery finishing pads with easy to use instructions. Within 5 minutes I was ready to go. At first sight it looked like it would be painful (cheese grader comes to mind-scary!), but after the first few slides I noticed that it didn't hurt at all. Ahhhhhhhh I love it. The only issue I encountered was when trying to reach difficult angles, the "foot dandruff" (if you will) came out of the microfile side. That was to be expected I guess. Anyway, when I was done using the microfile, I flipped the PedEgg over to use the emery pad which smoothed everything right up. Then I put on Aveda Foot Relief lotion and went on my merry way.

Its been three days since I have used the PedEgg and my feet are still smooth and soft. I highly recommend this product! Its so easy to use and time is cut in half! There are so many fun beauty products - I can't wait to try them all!

1) Givenchy Phen omen'Eyes Mascara
I'm always down to try out new innovative products. This one looks fun, just hope I don't poke my eye out.

2) Eye Envy Tropics Kit
These things look like they will take some time off my morning make-up routine. If I'm feeling kinda crazy and wild- I would go for the Eye Envy Exotic Kit.

3) Anything from Kevyn Aucoins collection. I want to try it all! I have his books and heard many good things about his collection. So I am super excited to see that Sephora is now carrying his line.

4) Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 30
Since I'm outside way more than I ever was in Vegas, sunscreen has become more important to me. I use a lot of Peter Thomas Roth products and I love them. Pricey, but great quality. This looks easy and I won't get my hands greasy!

5) Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Eye Treatment
I'm always on the lookout for dark circle treatment creams. This one looks interesting. Gotta try everything once!

Oh and by the way...I recommend The Lash St as h for those of you having issues finding the right mascara. I love Sephora-GENIUS!

Loving Redken Smooth Down

I used Redken years ago when I was child and absolutely hated it. Back then, Redken would dry my hair out and make it brittle. Definitely not moisturizing. However, over the past couple of years I've been trying several of the small bottles sold at Ulta and now I'm loving Redken! So far I have used Satinwear 02 (ultimate blow-dry lotion), Outshine 01 (anti-frizz polishing milk), Smooth Down Heat Glide (protective smoother) and I find that I can't live with out any of these! I really do use these everyday depending on if I straighten or curl my hair. I have also tried the Redken Clear Moisture shampoo and conditioner, which is supposed to give lightweight moisture to normal/dry hair, and loved that one too! Mind you, living in the desert heat of Vegas zaps a lot of moisture out of your hair, but Clear Moisture kept my hair soft and smooth!

So I decided to give Redken Smooth Down shampoo and conditioner a shot- I purchased the gigantic bottles too- that's a commitment! The verdict: I LOVE IT! It really keeps my hair soft, smooth....shiny too! Frizzies are down to a minimum. Now that's what I like to see. The price isn't bad either - Ulta has this great in-store sale going on for $15.99 a bottle (33.8 FL OZ). The sales girl says it will go on til the end of July.

Create your own nail color or design

When I'm tired of all the nail colors out there or just can't seem to find the color I want (like the rocker purple polish that Gwen Stephani had on during her last tour)....I just create my own! You can mix and match just about any color or if you're really artistic, get a small paint brush and draw a cool design. The point is, you don't have to replicate what I have below...just be creative and have fun with it! Sure there will be some mishaps but that's what nail polish remover is for. Happy experimenting!

Here are some examples, starting from the pinkie: Bottom coat is OPI-Alpine Snow/Top coat is Princesses Rule!; Bottom coat OPI-Light my sapphire/Top dot OPI-Alpine Snow; Bottom coat OPI-Italian Love Affair/Top coat OPI-Princesses Rule!; Bottom coat MAC-Nocturnelle/Top coat Nicole-Fanatical Fuchsia; Bottom coat is OPI-Lincoln Park at Midnight/Top coat is a glitter top coat called I love the Holidays!

Waxing is easy with the Bliss Poetic Waxing Kit

I'm not sure if you would call it a blessing, but ever since I was a young girl I've had big thick eyebrows- like Brooke Shields (mom used to say). Those of you from my freshman year of college know what I am talking about. Since then, I have learned to wax and tame these bad boys the only way I know how - wax and pluck. Back in the day we would use GiGi Wax because it would grab even the most stubborn, tough hairs. The downside? It was painful and left you red for hours! That is when I began my search for a better waxing alternative. I think I've just about tried everything - Nad's, Nair, Sally Hanson and nothing seemed to work except GiGi. So when I first came across Bliss Poetic Wax I was skeptical. I really didn't want to spend $45 for something that didn't work. But after reading many magazine and online reviews about how great it was, I had to try it.

Bliss Poetic Wax Kit is amazing! It's way more gentle than waxing with the traditional stuff (GiGi) and is super simple to use. It's so easy to apply that my waxing time has been cut down considerably. Not only does the melting process begin at a low temperature (so it's fast), but the blue wax helps me see where it goes (less mistakes). My other favorite part? No waxing strips! You just peel off the wax baby. It's as easy as that. Bliss also got it right when they added pre-waxing lotion to the kit. They say the lotion keeps wax from sticking to the skin, and shrink wraps tough hair to pull it straight out from the root. Well it's no wonder my skin is less red afterward! I also believe the cleanser and the lotion help soothe my skin afterward, so there aren't any breakouts. YAY!

Although the Poetic Waxing Kit is my all time fave, I am still looking for a more permanent solution. It would be nice to have no upkeep. So a friend of mine recently suggested I get laser hair removal treatments. She absolutely loved the result from her treatments and is now enjoying little to no maintenance! I know laser is not meant for all skin types, but it's something I will research and discuss with a doctor to see if it's right for my skin. Of course, you know me-I'll let ya know how it goes.

Be a Glowing Goddess with the help of NARS

I've been a BIG fan of NARS Monoi Body Glow for years. J Lo once had it on at an award show which made me think - its gotta look great on my skin too! And it did. The smell is delicious and tropical, everyone always comments on it. The beautiful, shimmery oil makes my skin golden soft. If my tan needs a little boost before wearing a strapless top- this does the trick. LOVE IT. Since it worked out well for me, I wanted to try the Body Glow without the shimmery stuff (Glow II). Luckily, I found the NARS Body Glow Set in 1 oz bottles. YAY- The best of both worlds! I found the 1 oz 2 pack randomly on a shelf in a Las Vegas Sephora. They are hard to track down but maybe you'll have better luck than me. I have yet to try the Body Glow II, but I heard it is supposed to be moisturizing and gives a radiant glow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Tired of wearing your eyeliner the same way? Try something new with this technique. You can also spice it up with various other color combinations.

1) On your upper eyelid, start with a chocolate colored kohl pencil and draw a line close to the base of the eyelashes/lash line. Hold your head back and look down into the mirror if you need to. Remember to keep the line fine and thin. Making the line too thick can make the eye appear heavy and tired.

2) Then grab a lighter color from the same color family, perhaps a bronze or gold and draw a line right above the chocolate.

3) Begin smudging the liners upward, so that you gently blend them together. This will better define the shape of your eye and give depth to your look. You can use a Q-Tip or a small angled brush (like this one from MAC).

For a more dramatic look, try lightly dotting color along the lower lashes or follow with a black liquid liner on the top.

You know me, always looking for a product that will make me look like a million bucks after a night of partying. By golly I think I found it! Its called Eye Slept by Tricia Sawyer. It states on the website that Eye Slept can go on over or under you make-up and remember a little goes a long way -this is totally true! Its creamy, silky consistency was easy to put on and completely made me look awake. I only needed a small dab too - I think this will last me for a long time! Ahhhhhhh heaven!
