3 Steps to get your resume shortlisted by Google(or any other MNC)

There’s nothing special about Google that wouldn’t apply to Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, or another major tech company. There are really three parts to this answer: getting the right experience, creating a good resume, and submitting it the right way.

Getting the Right Experience:

1. If you come from a good school / work for a well respected company, that’ll help you a ton. But anyone can boost their resume with some projects.

2. Build some iPhone apps, web apps, whatever! Honestly it doesn’t matter that much what you’re building as long as you’re building something. Good languages include Java, Python, Ruby on Rails, C++, etc. I would encourage you to stay away from .NET. Not because .NET isn’t a perfectly good tool, but there’s a stigma.

3. Doing these projects is especially important if you’re, say, a programmer for CitiBank. You don’t have the right “pedigree.” But projects will help you a ton.

4. You can build a fairly meaty project in one weekend. This means that with about 3 – 4 weekends of work, you can make your resume go from so-so to fantastic. Seriously — I’ve seen lots of people do this.

5. Participate in hackathons, build a website or portfolio. Show your experience.

Building a Great Resume:

1. One page only. When you go onto two pages, you add weaker content to your resume, by definition. And when your resume is only read for about 15 seconds, it’s the average content that matters, not the “total amount of content.”

2. Use a real resume format. Don’t create your own — it tends to waste space and look sloppy.

3. List your projects, hackathons, etc. Don’t worry about whether or not something is “resume appropriate.” Does it make you look more impressive? Then include it.

4. Keep your bullets short – 1 to 2 lines each. Bullets that are 3 or more lines look like paragraphs and won’t be read.

5. Focus on accomplishments, not responsibilities. The first line of each bullet should be a word like built, created, implemented, designed, architected, optimized, etc.

6. Quantify your accomplishments. Did you optimize something? Okay, then tell me by how much.

7. No summaries. They don’t tell me anything other than what position you’re applying for and I already know that.

Submitting Your Resume:

1. Too many people stop with just one avenue. They apply once, and then figure that’s enough. Try all available avenues.

2. If you’re active on Github, Stack Overflow, etc, there’s a chance a recruiter will come to you. But there’s no reason to wait for that.

3. Apply online. It’s tough, but people do get their resume selected that way.

4. Ask around to your friends. Does any work at Google? Or know someone who does? It’s a huge help if someone will refer you.

5. Try reaching out to Google engineers on Twitter, Quora, or other social media. Remember that your first contact with them is, effectively, a cover letter. Don’t just say “Hi, I’m interested in Google, will you refer me?” Reach out to them and tell them about some of the things you’ve done, and then link them to your resume.

Again, this advice applies to all companies, and much of it to many positions as well.

You have to first arrange the imformation in the form as

Then you have to prepare the "Abstract".
Abstract- It is the details in short i.e not exceeding more than two pages. This you have to give to the place you want to present the topic. You have to write the Abstrct in theIEEE format if they ask you to do so.
IEEE format is like you have to have the specific size of the text
eg.
for the heading the font is 14
for the sub heading the font is 12 and so on.

Aptitude Test 1: eLitmus

a) About

eLitmus was launched in 2005 and is also known as pH test (Hiring Potential Test). It is basically aimed at recruitment of freshers and entry-level professionals. It is conducted and organized by eLitmus Evaluation Private Limited which is based in Bangalore. It has partnerships with over 200 companies that recruit the candidates via this test.

b) About The Test

eLitmus test is one of the best employability tests in India. It evaluates the candidates in a number of parameters and awards grades or scores to all the candidates of India. The scores are simply known as pH scores that determine the capability of test takers.

It is pen and paper based test which is of two hours duration. It is mainly divided into three sections viz. quantitative, verbal and analytic sections. Each section has 20 questions making a total of 60 questions. The maximum marks in the test are 600 and has multiple choice questions. The test also has negative marking for wrong answers. Absolute and percentile scores are awarded to the students after taking the test.

This test is best for the freshers or the candidates who have 0-2 years of experience.

c) Test Topics

The test assesses the candidates in a number of topics viz. General Mental Aptitude, English Communication, Behavioural Skills and Domain Knowledge.

IPAT (Iconic Professional Assessment Test) is organized by Iconic Career Options which was founded in 2009. It creates a platform by linking candidates, campus and cooperates together. It is operated from Delhi and Gurgaon.

Aptitude Test 3: AMCAT

a) About

AMCAT stands for Aspiring Mind’s Computer Adaptive Assessment. It is organized by Aspiring Minds and is one of the largest employability tests in India. The test helps the companies and institutions to choose the right talent.

Aspiring Minds was founded by Varun Aggarwal and co-founded by Himanshu Aggarwal in 2008. It has head quarter in Gurgaon and another office in Bangalore. Other offices are in various cities of India.

b) Registration

Candidates can register for the test online and schedule the test by choosing the date, test centre and slot. Candidates are provided with AMCAT ID which they can use while appearing in the test as well as job interviews. This AMCAT ID is of 14 digits long.

c) About Test

The test is comprised of different sections viz. English, Quantitative Ability and Logical Ability. It is a multidimensional test which also consists of personality and behaviour evaluation.

Candidates can check the syllabus of AMCAT by logging into the website. Moreover, sample papers are also available on the website for practice. There is no negative marking in this test.

Aptitude Test 4: NASSCOM NAC-TECH

a) About

NAC TECH test is organized by NASSCOM and is one of the best employability tests in India. It helps in increasing the employability of job seekers. It is conducted by Merit Trac Services that has partnership with NASSCOM.

b) Test Fee

The test fee is Rs 660 and can be paid via demand draft in favour of “MeritTrac Services Pvt Ltd”, Bangalore.

c) Registration

After the payment is received, Merit Trac sends username and password to the candidates. They can take print out of the hall ticket and carry it to the test location. Results are announced within 20 days of appearing in the exam.

d) About the Test

It is a national employability test and those who pass this test are eligible to attend interview calls from employers. The test is of 3 hours long and consists of 2 parts viz. PART A and PART B. PART A comprises various sections viz. verbal ability, analytical ability, attention to detail, written English test, programming fundamentals and learning ability.

PART B is comprised of core subject knowledge. The test is valid for one year and can be re-attempted after 90 days of appearing in the test.

Aptitude Test 5: Job Montor Test

a) About

Job mentor test is launched by freshersworld.com. It is an employability test that helps in assessing the candidate’s preparedness for jobs. Based on the test score, candidates are selected in various positions in different countries.

b) About the Test

The Job mentor test consists of two parts viz. Aptitude Test, Technical Skill Test (Optional) and Personality Interview. It is available in online as well as offline mode. Personality interview is also recorded so that it can be reviewed and judged by the experts. Technical skill test is optional and would benefit the candidates as some companies prefer candidates with specialized skills.

The Aptitude Test comprises of quantitative, verbal and logical questions while Technical Test consists of questions on C, C++, Java, .Net, PHP, networking, database, software testing. One can select any two of these tests.

g) Test Reappear

Candidates can reappear in the test after 30 days if they are not satisfied with their scores. They can take any or all the sections of the test as per their desire. Fee for reappearing in the test is Rs 199/-.

If you are serious about your programming future, you could subscribe the $49 monthly plan to obtain in-depth interviews with leading industry pros and cutting-edge workshops.

LearnStreet

If you are that kind of personnel who do not fancy playful design and prefer to deal with cold hard codes, LearnStreet is probably your thing. It currently offers JavaScript, Python and Ruby courses at beginner level. With a click on the ‘Start Course’ button you will start the lesson with an exercise, a code interpreter and a glossary panel (for new programming terms).

LearnStreet adopts command prompt-styled code interpreters with human language to explain function and encourage you whenever possible, the kind of command prompt you want for your own local machine. However, the code interpreter could be as rude as standard command prompt, as most of the times it requires you to type in the absolute same code and content it asks for.

Other than that, it’s truly friendly and enjoyable, and most importantly, free.

Udacity

Udacity is the unification of insightful video lectures and improved quizzes to achieve the interactive feel for students, so it’s ideal for those who don’t like to read but rather get explanations from industry professionals such as Google employees.

You will be given a screencast from pros discussing the topics and instructions, then you will take either logic or programming quizzes to strengthen your understanding or forge it into a skill. The good thing about Udacity is it provides more videos than any other site, and the instructors are either real-life professors or industry veterans.

The only pitfall here is most courses are not much related to each other, so Udacity is probably not your starting point, but a virtual university to further your study.

CodeHS

At this point all websites you read here are mainly dedicated to web development and computer science, but CodeHS is one with simple and fun game programming lessons that involve problem solving, JavaScript, animation, data structures, game design and puzzle challenges.

The advantage of CodeHS is it teaches you to think, and solve a problem like a programmer with its first course, Programming with Karel. The lessons are fun as you will learn how to use the code to move the dog, Karel to complete given tasks and puzzles like picking up ball and building a towel. It plants a solid concept of programming and the way it solves the problem systematically in your mind.

Other than the course mentioned above, you must sign up first with $25 per month to continue your learning journey, but it’s a perfect site to learn basic game programming effectively.

Khan Academy

Although Khan Academy’s courses are not as structured as CodeHS, it serves as an open playground for both novice and amateurs particularly interested in learning drawing, animation and user interaction with code. It does not preach any specific programming language, but the code pattern it adopts can be applied anywhere, as a majority of languages share the similar programming pattern.

You can first join the Programming Basics course to watch and learn basic concepts, then explore the given code after the video tutorial to validate your doubts. With Khan Academy, you can save your modification as a Spin-Off for everyone to enjoy and customize. There have been hundreds of spin-offs just from one lesson in one course, so imagine the community size, and the lesson’s effectiveness.

Scratch 2.0

Think CodeHS and Khan Academy are still too hardcore for your child, who has no comprehension beyond basic English? No worries, there is something even easier for your aspiring next-gen programmer, and it’s called Scratch. Previously an offline software that allow kids to create, upload and share their projects proudly, Scratch is now fully online with its 2.0 successor.

It’s not about programming though, but a combination of visual blocks of commands that tell assigned objects how to behave, such as telling the cat to move 10 steps, or yell ‘meow’ when it touches the owner’s leg. By using this visual programming method, the young programmers will form a habit of breaking a problem into smaller blocks, and solve them one by one logically.

1G (or 1-G) refers to the first-generation of wireless telephone technology, mobile telecommunications. These are the analog telecommunications standards that were introduced in the 1980s and continued until being replaced by 2G digital telecommunications. The main difference between two succeeding mobile telephone systems, 1G and 2G, is that the radio signals that 1G networks use are analog, while 2G networks are digital.
Although both systems use digital signaling to connect the radio towers (which listen to the handsets) to the rest of the telephone system, the voice itself during a call is encoded to digital signals in 2G whereas 1G is only modulated to higher frequency, typically 150 MHz and up. The inherent advantages of digital technology over that of analog meant that 2G networks eventually replaced them almost everywhere.

Analysis of 1g & 2g:

In 1G, narrow band analogue mobile network is used.
This facilitates the voice calls and sending text messages.
These services are provided with circuit switching.
Today the usual call starts from the beginning pulse to rate to the final rate. Then in case of 2G Narrow Band Wireless Digital Network is used. It brings more clarity to the conversation and both these circuit-switching model.
Both the 1G and 2G deals with voice calls and has to utilize the maximum bandwidth as well as a limited till sending messages i.e. SMS.
The latest technologies such as GPRS, is not available in these generations.
But the greatest disadvantage as concerned to 1G is that with this we could contact with in the premises of that particular nation, where as in case of 2G the roaming facility a semi-global facility is available.

Going all-digital allowed for the introduction of digital data services, such as SMS and email.
Greatly reduced fraud. With analog systems it was possible to have two or more “cloned” handsets that had the same phone number.
Enhanced privacy. A key digital advantage not often mentioned is that digital cellular calls are much harder to eavesdrop on by use of radio scanners. While the security algorithms used have proved not to be as secure as initially advertised, 2G phones are immensely more private than 1G phones, which have no protection against eavesdropping.

The intermediate generation:

In between 2G and 3G there is another generation called 2.5G. The intermediate mobile generation if we can call it that.

Firstly, this mid generation was introduced mainly for involving latest bandwidth technology in addition to the existing 2G generation. But this had not brought out any new evolution and so had not became critical enough to be recognized as a standalone generation.

Arrival of 3G:

To overcome the shortcomings of 2G and 2.5G, the 3G had been introduced. In 3G Wide Brand Wireless Network is used with which the clarity increases and gives the perfection similar to that of a real conversation. The data are sent through the technology called Packet Switching .Voice calls are interpreted through Circuit Switching.

What is Packet Switching?

This is actually done by supplying various addressed packets, which will be interconnected to have the conversation. It is not necessary to create a new dedicated path for sending the data. It had been modified in such a way that the data can be send through any path and hence this data will be received in less time as compared to that of voice calls.

Mobile TV – a provider redirects a TV channel directly to the subscriber’s phone where it can be watched.
Video on demand – a provider sends a movie to the subscriber’s phone.
Video conferencing – subscribers can see as well as talk to each other.
Tele-medicine – a medical provider monitors or provides advice to the potentially isolated subscriber.
Location-based services – a provider sends localized weather or traffic conditions to the phone, or the phone allows the subscriber to find nearby businesses or friends.

Although legacy systems are in place to adopt existing users, the infrastructure for 4G will be only packet-based (all-IP).
Some proposals suggest having an open Internet platform. Technologies considered to be early 4G include: Flash-OFDM, the 802.16e mobile version of WiMax (also known as WiBro in South Korea), and HC-SDMA.

Indian market still awaits the full implementation of 3G and there are lot of issues relating to its availability. When 4G comes along it will also be seen whether it succeeds in the Indian context or not.
