half a year later

2017-07-16T19:10:00.001-04:00

Oops, I didn't post for half a year. Turns out doing a PhD is a lot of work! It's summer now, though, so that excuse doesn't work. I've fallen behind on almost all of my internet responsibilities - except for instagram, which I use more than anything else at the moment. Only a month and a half left of summer then I dive back into school. Trying to enjoy the time I have right now, just existing in montreal, learning french and seeing friends and spending all my money on food. Here's what you may have missed from the past 6 months:

Butterball had surgery on his entropion! Thank you to everyone who donated to help us afford this surgery for him. He is so so much happier now.

All healed up!

My brother and my niece (not his daughter, my other brother's daughter lol)

Shirt from Birdsong London!! amazing ethical, fmeinist, sweatshop free clothes

My bebo

Got my hair dyed and cut by Steph at Salon Cyan!! Green 4 winter!!

Went home for Hanukkah, emptied out my childhood bedroom even more.

Now I'm back in MTL and ready for new years eve. Will probably order in or wander the streets for a bit around midnight. I usually hate new years cus of all the hype and it's never that great but I feel a teeny bit optimistic about next year.

Since moving to montreal and starting my phd in September, I have had next to no time to blog or even take photos of my outfits. School is intense. It's the hardest thing I've ever done, and sometimes I feel like I'm failing at it. I'm doing okay though, and I'm not giving up just yet. I am a TA now! I have my own tutorials! Grading is the worst!!

Also, side note, I have been taking accutane since like, July (a couple weeks spent finding my dosage which is 40mg/day) and my skin is the best it's ever been? Like I resisted accutane for so long and by NO means am I encouraging it for everyone to use. But I haven't felt this confident about my skin since like before I started caring about my appearance (I can almost remember when it happened exactly, some time in grade 9 lol). I just wanted to share my skin success. I finish accutane at the end of the month, pray 4 me that my acne doesn't come back.

I still draw on freckles sometimes

Lens Flavors Contacts Review!

2016-06-17T15:22:00.001-04:00

The site LensFlavors generously gave me a pair of colored contacts to review!

As they say, to "add another flavor" to my eye. I like my blue eyes but because my eyes are such a prominent feature on my face, I have always wondered what I'd look like with different colored eyes. Now is my chance to find out!

I chose the color called Red Wine and I have to say, I really love them. They were a bit hard to put in because I've never worn contacts before but after watching a Youtube tutorial, I got them in and mostly adjusted to them within an hour. The color of the lens tints my vision very slightly pink, which I don't mind because pink is my favorite color and it's like looking through rose-colored glasses - literally.

From a little further away, they look almost brown-red. I love that even more because I have always thought brown eyes are incredibly beautiful and deep.

From even further away: They really change my look/face! I love this option.

I am wearing this shirt and these pants, and my shoes are Sorel

For my first contact lens experience, I give these a 4.5/5!

I love the color, they are soft and easy to put in, and not too uncomfortable! Plus they are inexpensive (under $30) and LensFlavors offers free shipping. The only issue I found is that when I blink a lot, they move around a bit inside my eye, which is only really noticeable to me but it's a bit of a weird feeling! I am sure I will get used to it.

Overall I am a very happy red-eyed (in more ways than one) girl.

Having Georgia home feels so riiiiiight. I don't want her to go.

Tyler and I celebrated 8 years together. He got me this new camera which has helped me get back into what's important....selfies

and pics of my sister, who is moving to Japan in a couple weeks

I had dyed my hair blue using manic panic atomic turquoise and deep blue but then faded it using a combo of bleach, water, shampoo and conditioner because i didn't like the color it was fading to. I like this one much more.

My best friend Lilly had a surprise birthday party!!!! This is the exact moment she opened the door to our surprise caught by her lil sis Lydia

So much love for the bday girl

So much love for my 2 bffls

But on another note, this week was my MA degree graduation ceremony in Sheffield (UK). I missed it, obviously, and was feeling a bit bummed about it but being around my sister and my best friends and my CATS helps so much.

Here is an old pic of me accepting an award at Sheffield University.

Here's to 2016.

small goodbyes

2015-11-10T12:52:00.000-05:00

Just before I moved to England, I started saying little goodbyes to things, rituals mostly.
thinking, "this time next year I won't be here for this"
and now my time in England is up and I am headed back to Canada in a couple weeks...

And I find myself saying small goodbyes to what (and who) I've come to love dearly here

2015-10-19T11:27:00.000-04:00

My friend and talented hairstylist Oliver cut my hair while I was in London this week. I've been contemplating a pixie for so long but never felt confident enough to do it. Now that I have though, I feel so good!!! I was always afraid it would show off my face too much and I'm insecure about my skin... but, I actually just love it. I feel pretty.

Also, I'm gonna try this new thing where I don't edit out my acne. I have always done that because of a very deep insecurity about it I've always had. It makes me feel horrible (it's quite painful + I've been conditioned to see it as ugly) but it's a part of me. It's probably not going away anytime soon. I'm trying to learn how to accept it.

Also, recently I've been noticing when babes I know post pictures with their spots showing and it makes me feel better about myself because every single one of them is lovely just as they are. If I help anyone feel more accepting of themselves just by showing my pimples, that's a damn good thing. It's a win-win, see?

My sweater is from Zara

Do y'all like my new cut or what!!?

stay home

2015-09-18T11:00:00.000-04:00

I moved flats last week! My new place is in the attic of my friends' house. Thought I'd share a few pictures of where I spend almost all of my time (working/vlogging from home, watching endless hours of Netflix - I'm really into Orphan Black right now, sleeping and napping).

Here it is!! A bit of a clutter but we have a lot of clothes for such a tiny dresser. So we are keeping most of them on the 1st floor. It feels like home in here though. Nice and cosy.

Remember when y'all helped vote for Rococo for that magazine contest? Well she won and I am forever the proudest mama

family visit

2015-07-18T18:41:00.001-04:00

My family came to visit me in the UK!! My parents and brother came from Canada, and my sister all the way from China. Suffice to say I've been MIA from the internet a bit. Here's where I've been instead:

in Sheffield with my sister!!!!!!! I missed her so much

Tyler and I took her to the part of town where cats are EVERYWHERE. Obviously it's my favorite part of town.

Went to Liverpool to meet up with my parents and brother. We stayed in a swanky houseboat.

That black&white boat was all ours that night!

Cool but made me a lil queasy idk how people live on boats

Back in Sheffield

Steel City Cakes

Most important girls in my life

And Yorkshire is so beautiful

Went to a local dairy farm for icecream

Get a room, you two!

My lil brother Max

Next we drove to the border of Scotland

Edinburgh!

As usual, I didn't take enough photos. Maybe that's for the best, I spent more time enjoying my family's presence (well, for the most part heh heh). Might not see them for a while as I've decided to stick around in England for a few more months.

trickle down confidence

2015-05-06T11:07:00.000-04:00

I'm using a lens filter I picked up in a used camera store in Chicago a couple years ago

People sometimes ask me why I don't wear contact lenses. I've never tried them, and might like them but the reason is simple: When I wear my glasses, I feel more confident. Not only because I can see what's in front of me. They act as armor, and I feel stronger as a result of them. Fashion can be powerful.

I also get a lot of compliments from strangers on these frames (they're Miu Miu) which is nice because I'm shy and find it hard to strike up conversations with people.

I haven't been wearing a lot of make up lately, have been feeling very uninspired. So today I thought I'd try something new by doing my shadow all the way up to my eyebrow. I'm pretty into it.

My eyeshadow is MAC pigment in heritage rouge and reigning riches, lipstick is revlon's pink in the afternoon
