Faith in Axioms

I happened to notice a line in the post here that translates to something like: "theology begins from faith". An analogy to explain this would be that in Mathematics, NO theorems can be proven without "believing in" axioms. We need to believe in certain axioms that CANNOT be proven. For example, a line is straight. A "point" is the (smallest) precise location on a plane. Mathematics begins here, in these beliefs !

Going by the ways of an atheist - It is possible to realize even smaller points. So "a point can never be a point" as per its definition. And as for line - since quantum physics defines constituents of an atom using a "probability" of finding each of them at a particular place, I wonder how perfectly straight a straight line can possibly be (All straight lines are in reality "broken" lines).

However, if we were to have always debated over mathematical axioms, we would never have had mathematics. This fate was never reached because the capability to make a fair judgement between axioms and theorems has been well within the human intellectual capability. Humans could judge what could be assumed (eg: Mathematics limits which tend to infinity / zero but are neither infinity / zero) and what must be proven. In school, I used to have friends for whom the axioms of mathematical Limits were too incomprehendible to have put their belief in. I have often felt that their behaviour in a calculus class or in a class on N-dimensional mathematics can be compared to those of an atheist listening to a preacher.

If God is really as great as we think (say, a lot greater than mathematics), then comprehending him will demand faith in a lot more axioms than the silly mathematics axioms that we (although not all humans) can comprehend.

Using this makes me feel way better than with using wikidot. Got the wiki up. Even used my python script successfully to login as a robot and then get a session cookie.. all these without much pain! One nuisance is the human check at each edit submission. The words are so garbled that in spite of being a human, I couldn't decipher the words correctly..

Anyway, robots are not welcome here.. I can't use this wiki to test my robot through my company proxy. Should try another free wiki...

After 10~15 minutes of experiements with the so called wikidot "wiki", I wonder whether this would be a waste of time. The wiki often says I am not logged in and when I attempt to login it says I am already logged in. Doesn't allow me to create a page. With the login/not-logged-in hide-n-seek, I couldn't even figure out how to edit a page... There is something seriously wrong here or I am missing something..!

Swimming - My experiments to Float.. !

Sunday: 4th Feb
Started to learn swimming.. not from the book this time, but in the Haiyatt swimming pool. Vignesh volunteered to undertake this challenging mission to tutor me. After half an hour of failed attempt to float, learned that the key is to keep the head under water ! :-)

Tuesday: 6th Feb
Not a bad second attempt.. For the first time, I managed to stay afloat for a few seconds, without having to stand on the floor or holding on to the pool side concrete. I even managed to move half the breadth of the pool (well, don't ask me how wide was the pool..) It all seemed like a fine piece of execution except that the entire pool looked as if a hurricane had just passed by..

The toughest part was to hold the excitement and get out of the pool after 45 minutes. When I finally realized I had to get to office at least before the lunch or I need to risk scavenging the leftovers of a "factory lunch", I hastily hit a pause to my swimming adventure..
