The first time I met Jun Jun, she was quieter than the other children. The reason? She'd been separated from her foster parents and returned to a children's home to ready herself for permanent adoption. At first, she padded around in her puffy purple dress, eyebrows arched as she cautiously watched other kids play before jumping in. But she soon warmed up. Revving back a few paces, she sprinted into my arms. I tossed her up and down amid happy squeals of "yah yah yah yah!" She played with a boldness that often left her on her head or flat on her face. The caretakers practiced lunging as they reached to catch her.

The band Third Day recorded a song entitled "Merry Christmas" from their album Christmas Offerings.

The guitarist from the band adopted a daughter from China; the song is about his wait to bring her home.

This video puts a family's pictures to the song.

So five Cleveland-area couples, eager to add to their families, traveled across the globe to adopt abandoned babies who would grow up with a dual Chinese-Jewish heritage. Part of a wave of over 50,000 Chinese babies adopted by Americans since 1993, these children, now entering adolescence, are finding their place in school, in synagogue, and in the larger community.

Who Are You Also Known As?: Like many adopted people I never had a simple answer to the question, "Where did I come from?" For most people raised by their biological parents, this question can be answered by simply gazing at their parent's face. There in the turn of a nose and the curve of the eye they are reminded of where they came from. bounded by blood, a part of a human continuum passed from mother to daughter, from father to son.

Wells learn adoption process while adding a new member to their family: Adopting a child from any country is difficult but it is something the Wells family is tackling with great pride and large smiles. Andy and Angie Wells have two sons, six-year-old Jack and two-year-old Jude, but have decided to diversify and adopt a child from China to make their family complete.

Pair adopts child as an act of faith: Hong Zi Hua had a ready smile and got along well with others, according to records his foster parents kept, and he loved to imitate singers he saw on television by rolling up paper like a microphone and singing into it. They described him as "a lovely, naughty little boy."

Our volunteers in Wuhan had a great idea. It may be possible for some of our Half the Sky children to carry the Olympic torch next year. I've entered a contest sponsored by the China Daily Newspaper and, if I can get enough votes from netizens all over the world, I may be able to have that honor. If it happens, I will run with 8 children from 8 orphanages in China. Believe me, I am no runner. But I would dearly love to give the children a place at the party.
