These are my cherished gifts from Teresa Martínez, all the way from Spain! Earlier this year, she mailed me a copy of the Miniaturas magazine where my doll, Sunehra, was featured. Along with the magazine, she sent me her wonderful creations of marmalade and the Christmas wreath. 144th Scale Woodshire Fairy Dwelling ~ Pat Carlson

"Usually, the Fairies of the Woodshire live in simple nests...sometimes in the trees of the enchanted forest or in the hollows of fragrant leaves on the ground, or in a cozy cave upon a hillside. But if the Dreamweaver sends a sleeping fairy a dream of living in a cottage it is then their destiny to build that cottage. Only natural resources of the realm may be used, so the Fairy must wander the forests and fields of the realm, gathering the wood and stones they will need to complete their dwelling, no matter how long it takes. Once the Cottage is completed, the Dreamweaver grants them peace, and the Fairy can cease wandering and live happily in their dwelling."

The Key West Island House ~ Robin Carey

The Key West Island house is a theme house that depicts all the pleasures summer, and of island living. Key West is a 3 by 5 mile island that sits at the very end of a small chain of islands off the tip of Florida. It is the southernmost city in the continental U.S. and is only 90 miles from Cuba.

The house started out as a kit of the” Alison” by real good toys. It has a two story room addition, as well as a custom tower. Extra windows and doors were also modifications to the original design.

The large white Heron bird is on the fence sits very stately and quietly. The white are my favorite but they also are in brown. They have a huge wing span when they take off.

Riding a bike is very common, and in the basket are Longans, one of my favorite tropical fruits and a loaf of Cuban bread. You have to buy Cuban bread every day ... it doesn’t keep. There is a small scene on the table for butterfly collecting. There are just tons of them all year round.

On the lounger is coco frio, a fresh coconut that they take a big machete to and chop the top off, put in a straw and you just drink the fresh milk.

The Spiral Staircase Room: Many houses have towers and widows walks for watching for shipwrecks. In the spiral stair room are maps and charts and books on navigation and sailing ships. Finding treasure especially after a storm is always a possibility. There is a treasure chest by the desk.This room is the fantasy and endless possibilities of finding the great treasure.

The 1st Bedroom

The Sitting Room: The sitting room is a quiet getaway room ... a place to sit in a comfortable chair, have a drink, and maybe smoke a Cuban cigar and read a great book. All through the house are books by Hemingway, Samuel Carter and subjects pertaining to the sea.

There is a bucket of shells by the lounger as well as the shell collection upstairs on display. These are actual real shells. There are very few shells on the beach except after a tropical storm or hurricane since a large coral reef sits just out from the island preventing the forming of natural sand. However this reef was the cause of the many shipwrecks that occurred making the salvage business one of the main businesses around and before the turn of the century.

The 2nd Bedroom

The Garden Room addition depicts the passion for raising orchids. On the tables are slices of Key Lime pie, the most popular desert on the island.

The Kitchen: In the kitchen are tropical fruits and of course, fresh caught fish and shrimp. The shrimp boats sail out in the evening and you can watch them around sunset, and come back in the morning. There is fresh fried fish on the plates at the table.

The living room and foyer depict the social life of Key West. Living on a 3 by 5 mile island means you have a lot of friends. There is always a party. The party here will be an after sunset party where everyone will come after watching the sunset from the pier. There will be drinks, and gourmet treats, and piano playing. The front door will be open and the evening breezes will blow through the house. You will be able to smell the aromas of Cuban food and coffee from the neighborhood wafting by. And as the evening moves on, the fragrant smell of night blooming jasmine and angel trumpet blooms permeate the air as the guests leave and walk down the quite streets home.

Mr. & Mrs. Thornberry live in Mornington Mews. The full cast of characters for the house includes Dr. Charles (standing beside the Thornberrys) the personal physician and long time family friend, the butler, downstairs maid, chamber maid, footman, chef, cook, cellar man, gardener, chimney sweep, Mrs. Thornberry’s attending, and Mr. Finny a local character, and the tramp that always finds a hot meal due to the kindness of the cook.

Mrs. Thornberry is having her birthday in a few days, and Mr. Thornberry has purchased her a lovely emerald necklace which he is showing Dr. Charles. Mr. Thornberry, as you can see, has suffered a mishap and broken his leg.

Yes it is a house elf! Every house should have one...

"In a sunny glade in the forest of the Woodshire Fairies, the Herbalist carefully prepares herbal remedies and potions. Enchanted sunlight pours through the sky light in the ceiling, drying the herbs hanging from the rafters. Rare, special herbs are hung on the drying rack in front of the large picture window, where they gather nutrients and magic from the rays of the moon and the sun..."

"Inside the Cottage, there is a tiny table and bench where the Herbalist prepares his herbal remedies and potions in an herb-filled bowl and basket. Rafters loaded with drying herbs take in the sun from the sky light in the ceiling. Shelves full of scrolls, potion bottles, and herbs line the wall on either side of the faux stained glass window. A drying room off to the side of the main room is brightly lit by a large picture window where herbs fill a drying rack, taking in the rays of the sun and the moon."

"Upon the front door on the outside of the cottage is an arrangement of special herbs, symbolizing the Herbalist. A pretty filigree window lets more light into the drying room. A Greenman oversees the picture window, insuring the rays of the moon and the sun are safely admitted."

144th Scale Woodshire Fairy Scribe Cottage ~ Pat Carlson

"In the enchanted realm of the Woodshire Fairies, it takes many years of study to become a Scribe. The responsibilities bestowed upon one worthy of this distinguished title must carefully transcribe the literature of the Woodshire Fairies upon Fine Parchment scrolls and within finely bound books which are to be preserved through the eternities. To this end, the Woodshire Scribe is given a special cottage in which to work and store these precious tomes..."

"Inside the Cottage, there is a tiny desk and chair illuminated by a 'stained glass' window and a crystal lantern (these do not actually light). You can see by the runick writing upon the scroll on the desk that the Woodshire Scribe has been hard at work. Fine Parchment scrolls fill a basket and a tall bookcase in the corner...more scrolls litter the floor. A tiny reproduction of 'The Captured Unicorn' from the Unicorn Tapestry collection hangs over the staircase."
