Saul Hudson (born July 23, 1965), better known by his nickname Slash, is a British-American musician and songwriter. He is best known as the former lead guitarist of the American hard rock band Guns N' Roses, with whom he achieved worldwide success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. During his later years with Guns N' Roses, Slash formed the side project Slash's Snakepit. He then co-founded the supergroup Velvet Revolver, which re-established him as a mainstream performer in the mid to late 2000s. Slash has since released two solo albums, Slash (2010), featuring an all-star roster of guest musicians, and Apocalyptic Love (2012), recorded with singer/guitarist Myles Kennedy, along with rhythm section Brent Fitz and Todd Kerns, known on the album as The Conspirators.

Slash has received critical acclaim as a guitarist. Time named him runner-up on their list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players" in 2009, while Rolling Stone placed him at No. 65 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2011. Guitar World ranked his solo in "November Rain" No. 6 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Guitar Solos" in 2008, and Total Guitar placed his riff in "Sweet Child o' Mine" at No. 1 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Riffs" in 2004. In 2012, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with other members of Guns N' Roses.

Personal life

On October 10, 1992, Slash married model-actress Renée Suran in Marina del Rey, California. They divorced in late 1997 after five years of marriage. Slash married Perla Ferrar on October 15, 2001 in Hawaii. They have two sons, London Emilio (born August 28, 2002) and Cash Anthony (born June 23, 2004). In August 2010, Slash filed for divorce from Ferrar, but the couple reconciled two months later. The family lives in Los Angeles, California.

Slash, the son of a white English father and a black American mother, has called himself a "proud" dual citizen of the United Kingdom and the United States. A British national since his London birth, he has resided in Los Angeles since 1971 but did not acquire American citizenship until 1996.

In 2001, at the age of 35, Slash was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a form of congestive heart failure caused by his many years of alcohol and drug abuse. Originally given between six days and six weeks to live, he survived through physical therapy and the implantation of a defibrillator. Slash has been clean and sober since 2006, which he credits to his wife Perla. In 2009, following his mother's death from lung cancer, he quit smoking.

Slash has received recognition for his longtime contributions to establishing environmental welfare programs. He is a board trustee of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association and has long supported the Los Angeles Zoo and zoos around the world. Slash's love of reptiles was for many years a notable aspect of his public persona—with several of his many snakes appearing with him in music videos and photoshoots until the birth of his first son in 2002 forced him to rehome his collection.

Slash's former friendship with Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has soured since his departure from the band. In 2006, Rose claimed that Slash had shown up at his house uninvited the previous year to offer a truce. He alleged that Slash had insulted his Velvet Revolver band mates, telling Rose that he considered Scott Weiland "a fraud" and Duff McKagan "spineless," and that he "hated" Matt Sorum. Slash denied the accusations. In his 2007 autobiography he admitted to visiting Rose's home with the intention to settle a longstanding legal dispute and make peace with his former band mate. He claims, however, that he did not speak with Rose and instead merely left a note. Slash maintains that he has not spoken with Rose in person since 1996. In 2009, in response to a statement by Rose in which he referred to Slash as "a cancer," Slash commented, "It doesn't really affect me at all....It's been a long time. The fact that he has anything to say at all, it's like, 'Whatever, dude.' It doesn't really matter

25 is the third studio album by British singer and songwriter Adele. It was released on 20 November 2015, through XL Recordings. Following the release and international success of her second studio album 21.
Titled as a reflection of her life and frame of mind at 25 years old, 25 is a "make-up record". The album's lyrical content features themes of Adele "yearning for her old self, her nostalgia", and "melancholia about the passage of time" according to an interview with the singer by Rolling Stone, as well as themes of motherhood and regret. In contrast to Adele's previous works, the production of 25 incorporated the use of electronic elements and creative rhythmic patterns, with elements of 1980s R&B and organs. Like 21, Adele worked with producer and songwriter Paul Epworth and Ryan Tedder, along with new collaborations with Max Martin and Shellback, Greg Kurstin, Danger Mouse, the Smeezingtons, Samuel Dixon, and Tobias Jesso Jr.
25 received generally positive reviews from music critics, who commended Adele's vocal performance and the album's production. The album was a massive commercial success, debuting at number one in more than 25 markets and broke first-week sales records in multiple countries, including the United Kingdom and United States; in the US, the album sold 3.38 million copies in its first week of release, marking the largest single-week sales for an album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991. 25 eventually became the world's best-selling album of 2015 with 17.4 million copies sold within the year,^[3] and has sold 20 million copies as of June 2016, making it one of the best selling albums worldwide.
Following 21, it was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting shipments of ten million copies in the United States, making Adele the only artist of the 2010s to achieve this certification with two albums. Many journalists felt that the album impacted the music industry by encouraging the public to return to buying physical albums, instead of downloading or streaming. 25 received the BRIT Award for British Album of the Year, while the lead single "Hello" won British Single of the Year. The album then won the 2017 Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album. "Hello" also won Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

A Head Full of Dreams is the seventh studio album by British rock band Coldplay. It was released on 4 December 2015 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom and by Atlantic Records in the United States, with a 5.1 Surround Blu-ray Audio version released via the band's website on 23 September 2016.
Coldplay recorded the album from late 2014 to mid-2015, right after the completion of Ghost Stories, with a markedly different style and sound from its predecessors. For various songs, Coldplay collaborated with Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo, Khatia Buniatishvili and Merry Clayton. The album was produced by Rik Simpson and Stargate. The album also features a sample of President Barack Obama singing "Amazing Grace" at Clementa C. Pinckney's funeral on "Kaleidoscope".
The album received mixed reviews from critics. Commercially, it topped the UK Albums Chart, and was the runner-up in the United States, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and Italy where it was held off the top spot by Adele's 25. At the 2016 Brit Awards the album was nominated for British Album of the Year. It was the eighth best-selling album of 2015 with 1.9 million copies sold worldwide, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. As of March 2017, the album has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.It was the ninth best-selling album of 2016 with 1.4 million copies sold worldwide, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.

Comedown Machine accomplishes in 38 minutes what nearly a decade and a half of backlash and schadenfreude could not: make the Strokes look like total nerds. This isn’t so much of a revelation as it the culmination of what’s been happening ever since First Impressions of Earth. They got one classic album and another great one exhausting a sound that evoked decades of New York squalor chic through indestructible songs and contradictory images: garages where Orange amps are parked next to Benzes, a trust-funder’s highrise apartment lousy with beer cans and leather jackets, dive bars frequented by models and rock stars. Everything since has taken cues from styles more associated with parents’ basements, musty vinyl shops, and convention centers: dinky synth-pop, surf rock, prog and the weird science of countless 1980s New Wave bands. This flipping of the script can actually be seen as a canny move, recasting the Strokes as lovable underdogs: where they once defined effortless cool, the deeply uncool Comedown Machine smacks of effort.

That goes a long way towards making Comedown Machine more immediately appealing than their last two records; the Strokes sound like they’re genuinely trying here. The functional cover art of Comedown Machine suggests some kind of mixtape the Strokes made for themselves, 11 songs that turn out like 11 different genre experiments viewed through the unmistakable prism of their inhuman rhythmic precision and pinched EQ’ing. There are a couple of Is This It? throwbacks (“All The Time,” “50/50”) that turn out to be among the least satisfying things here, too flabby to fit into those same jeans from a decade prior. Otherwise, you get elastic funk (“Tap Out”), dubby dream-pop (“80s Comedown Machine”), unidentifiable Latin-tinged Casio presets (“One Way Trigger”) and plenty of soft-rock sheen that creates an ouroboros effect of the Strokes sounding like Phoenix when they were trying to sound like the Strokes.

Credit where it’s due: the guys sound like they’re having fun again. At least that’s the gist you get from the numerous, in-studio “throwaway” moments: the flubbed soloing that introduces the otherwise vice-tight “Tap Out” and the labored laughing that closes out “Slow Animals” only take up a few seconds, but they reinforce the idea that this isn’t Julian Casablancas’ de facto solo project despite it sounding closer to Phrazes For The Young than any Strokes LP. But you also sense that the rest of the band getting antsy, issuing challenges to themselves to keep things interesting. Albert Hammond’s solos are charmingly anachronistic, a throwback to when tidy solos were a regular occurrence in three-minute pop songs. But they still can’t shake their tendency to stubbornly hammer at awkward riffs (“Happy Ending”) and clunky chord changes ("Welcome To Japan").

Still, the limitations of Comedown Machine's protracted diversity all come back to Casablancas, a man with wide range as a listener and extremely narrow range as a musician. In both lyrics and tone, he’s best at playing the laconic cad: So when he barks “you’re going too fast” on “All the Time” as a callback to “Reptilia” and the hotseat urgency of Room On Fire, it sounds forced. On the opposite end, the highlight of Comedown Machine is when he asks “What kind of asshole drives a Lotus?” on “Welcome to Japan”; you half expect him to do the “this guy!” routine as a punchline.

That’s the kind of thing Casablancas does better than anyone. Unfortunately, most of Comedown Machine finds him doing anything but that. “Tap Out” features at least two of Casablancas' most elegant melodies, but his wispy coo turns them into mush. When he takes the opposite tack to channel his inner Tom Waits, he doesn’t fare much better; no was asking what the Strokes would've sounded like in the Victrola era, but "Call It Fate Call It Karma" answers it anyway. If this all smacks of effort, at least they are not taking the easy way out. It’s the 10th anniversary of Room On Fire and in light of what came after, a reissue would surely bring more praise than the initial Is This It? Yes It Is assessment. Or, they could’ve followed the lead of fellow fashion plate/occasional hitmaker Suede and made it a point to sound like their old selves after a long, dry spell.

Still, it’s frustrating for anyone who still puts stock in the idea that the Strokes could and should be one of America’s biggest rock bands. After all, they feel like stars even if the numbers don’t back it up and reigning champs like the Black Keys have about as much charisma and sex appeal as a General Tire. Of course, Black Keys are writing much better songs than the ones on Comedown Machine and if the Strokes seem unfashionable in 2013, that's the true reason.

¡Tré! is the eleventh studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day. It is the third and final installment in the ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! trilogy, a series of studio albums that were released from September to December 2012. The album follows the power pop style of ¡Uno!, and the garage rockfeel of ¡Dos!. The album's title is a nod to the band's drummer Tré Cool, who turned 40 years old around the release of the album.

Green Day started recording material for the album on February 14, 2012, and finished on June 26, 2012. The album was released on December 7, 2012 in Australia, December 10 in the UK and December 11 in the US, through Reprise Records, and was produced by their long-time producer Rob Cavallo.

Sonny John Moore (born January 15, 1988), better known by his stage name Skrillex, is an American electronic musician and singer-songwriter. Raised in Northeast Los Angeles and in Northern California, Moore joined the American post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004, and recorded two studio albums with the band (Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count, 2004, and Heroine, 2006) before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007. He began his first tour as a solo artist in late 2007. After recruiting a new band lineup, Moore joined the Alternative Press Tour to support bands such as All Time Low and The Rocket Summer, and appeared on the cover of Alternative Press' annual "100 Bands You Need to Know" issue.

After releasing the GypsyhookEP in 2009, Moore was scheduled to record his debut studio album, Bells, with producer Noah Shain. However, he ceased production of the album and began performing under the name Skrillex. After releasing the My Name is Skrillex EP for free download on his official MySpace page, he released the Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP in late–2010 and More Monsters and Sprites EP in mid–2011. Both have since become moderate commercial successes. On November 30, 2011, he was nominated for a total of five Grammy Awards at the 54th Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and won three: "Best Dance/Electronica Album," "Best Dance Recording," and "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical". On December 5, 2011, the BBC announced that he had been nominated for their Sound of 2012 poll. On December 12, 2011, he was also named MTV's Electronic Dance Music Artist of the Year.

With such a terribly generic name and quite mundane album cover, you might be excused for doubting the content of the German legends' fourteenth original studio album. Those that have kept on the ball with Helloween in recent years however, will know that the band have been on remarkably good form and will certainly not judge this proverbial book by the cover.

Through the groundbreaking eighties to the patchy nineties, the last decade saw Helloween put their feet down with Gambling With The Devil and 7 Sinners to be noticed as a credible heavy metal force once again. Straight Out Of Hell follows the same line and brings Helloween into this decade with confidence as the legitimate force they always should have been.

Stylistically you can pick out aspects of Helloween past and present encapsulated into this release, and as we've now come to expect again; Straight Out Of Hell has some outstanding and glorious songs waiting to be heard. Opening epic "Nabataea", machine gun "World Of War", upbeat "Burning Sun", infectious title track "Straight Out Of Hell" and "Years" turning back the years are all phenomenal tracks that make you wonder why you ever started to doubt the band. Helloween show that when they are on top form, after all these years they still sit atop the power metal throne.

Perhaps more so on Straight Out Of Hell than the previous album however, the band decided to throw in some real stinkers for good measure. "Live Now!" needs to check for a pulse, "Waiting For The Thunder" might as well have not bothered, and "Asshole" frankly needs to be wiped off the disc. You could say it wouldn't be a true Helloween album without a couple of facepalm-worthy moments though.

All things taken into consideration, Straight Out Of Hell is the album that pessimists never thought could happen; yet another solid album with some magic moments. It might not have been the case twenty years ago, but Helloween is becoming one of the most consistent bands on the scene. With this release, the band have surely solidified their place at the very forefront of credible, modern power metal. Long live the pumpkin(g)s! (Source)

The discography of Slipknot, an American heavy metal band, consists of four studio albums, one live album, four video albums, one demo album, thirteen singles, four promotional singles and thirteen music videos.

Slipknot was formed in Iowa in September 1995 by vocalist Anders Colsefni, guitarist Donnie Steele, bassist Paul Gray and drummer Shawn Crahan under the name of The Pale Ones. Crahan moved to become a percussionist upon drummer Joey Jordison's arrival, and Josh Brainard was added as a second guitarist around the same time. The band played their first live performance on December 4, 1995 under the name of Meld, before Jordison suggested "Slipknot", the title of a song they were working on at the time. The band began recording songs in early 1996, during which time Steele left due to his Christian beliefs. He was replaced by Craig Jones, who moved to samples after current guitarist Mick Thomson joined. Slipknot's debut demo, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat, was released on October 31, 1996 without contributions from Jones or Thomson.

Slipknot recruited a new lead vocalist in 1997; Stone Sour's Corey Taylor. This moved Colsefni to backing vocals and percussion duty, though he left the band shortly afterwards and was replaced on percussion by Greg "Cuddles" Welts. By the end of the year, the band had adopted two traditions which they still adhere to today; uniform coveralls and individual numbers for all the members. In 1998 a second demo was recorded with contributions from a new member, turntablist Sid Wilson. Producer Ross Robinson showed interest in Slipknot, which helped them become noticed by record labels. On July 6, Welts became the first and only member to be formally fired from the band, being quickly replaced by Chris Fehn. On July 8, Slipknot signed to Roadrunner Records.

With a major label the nine-man unit began work on their full-length debut, disregarding Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., which the band themselves label a demo. Recording began in late-September 1998 and was essentially completed by November, at which point the band returned to their hometown of Des Moines. During the Christmas period, Brainard left the band for reasons still unclear. He was replaced by James Root, who recorded guitar on the final two tracks recorded in February 1999, "Me Inside" and "Purity". Slipknot was released on June 29 and on May 2, 2000 it became the first Roadrunner release to be certified Platinum by the RIAA. The album was re-released in December 1999 with "Purity" (as well as its prelude "Frail Limb Nursery") removed due to copyright infringement (the track would later appear on the album's 10th anniversary edition). Slipknot's second studio album was recorded in early 2001, and released on August 28. Iowa was a huge commercial success, reaching #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the UK Albums Chart. Slipknot released their second video album (after Welcome to Our Neighborhood in 1999), Disasterpieces. The DVD was extremely successful, and has since been certified four-times Platinum in the US.

After the releases of Iowa and Distasterpieces, Slipknot members redirected focus to side projects. Taylor and Root revived their old band Stone Sour, releasing their eponymous debut on August 27, 2002. Just one week prior to this, Murderdolls had released their debut album with Jordison on guitar. Crahan also created a side project in mid-2003, To My Surprise. Rumours that Slipknot had split up were snubbed and the band began recording their third album in late-2003. Produced by Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, System of a Down, Slayer), Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) was released on May 24, 2004. It reached #2 in the US, but performed much worse than its predecessor in the UK, where it peaked at #5. On November 1, 2005 9.0: Live was released. The band's first live album did not perform particularly well, reaching only #17 on the Billboard chart. 2006 and 2007 contained more work with side projects, as Stone Sour released Come What(ever) May and Crahan founded Dirty Little Rabbits.
All Hope Is Gone was released on August 20, 2008. As of October 31, Slipknot has sold over 20 million albums worldwide.

Harakiri is the third studio album by Armenian-American singer Serj Tankian. The album was released on July 10, 2012, as a follow-up to his symphonic rock album Imperfect Harmonies, released in 2010. The album also constitutes the first of four new albums set to be released in the near future, the other three being Orca, Jazz-Iz-Christ, and Fuktronic.

System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian has suggested that he will release four full-length albums this year outside of his recently reunited band, each with a different goal. Later, we’ll get one jazz album (Jazz-Iz Christ), one orchestral (Orca), and one electro-western (Fuktronic, with Jimmy Urine of Mindless Self Indulgence). But first there’s Harakiri, a disc with diverse musical influences, but dominated by Tankian’s world-aware lyrics first and foremost.

Tankian has been anything but shy about his social, political, and environmental views, whether in his lyrics, as a poet, or as an activist (he and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello co-founded a political activism non-profit). On Harakiri, his third solo full-length, these views come in bunches, letting loose wordy screeds about everything from environmental issues to corporate greed to reality TV, all flavored by a sort of epic mysticism. The album works in a world in which discussions of phenomena in the natural world (the title track’s notes on how “the blackbirds, they fell in thousands from the sky”) coexist, even come from the same root as the “civilized” world’s social problems. When Tankian’s idiosyncratic voice wonders aloud, “Why pretend that we don’t know/ that CEOs are the disease?” at the beginning of “Figure It Out”, he’s attempting to force issues into the listener’s face (a theme that recurs endlessly here).

Musically, much of the album toes the line between the build-and-release alt-metal of System of a Down and something a little softer. There’s something about opening track “Cornucopia” that’s vaguely reminiscent of Billy Corgan’s more recent work (perhaps even with Zwan), the rushing multi-guitar pulse, bright vocals on the chorus (“I loved you in the sunshine… I prayed that you’d be all mine”). That said, this being a Tankian song, there’s got to be some political statement in there, and here it’s environmental: “We fuck the earth and don’t know why it cries,” he cringes. The grand nature of the guitars, the hooks, and Tankian’s always strong vocals are a constant, but there are tracks that tend closer to the rapid-fire metal that he first trademarked. “Figure It Out” plunges into a double-bass drum insanity, slippery distorted guitars, and thick bass chugging away, all as Tankian sounds like a carnival barker shouting out world problems through a megaphone.

The Eastern-tinged “Ching Chime” is the first song to stray from the tried-and-true rock world, and it’s one of the weaker tracks on the album. The verses find Tankian finding as many words as he can that rhyme with chime, sounding like a politically minded teenager trying on the angst-y Dylan poster board-dropping look. Hearing the line “Super Bowl halftime/any time is war time” once might be alright, but hearing it multiple times is cringe-worthy.The soft acoustic and plonking synths of “Deafening Silence” are an important shift from the distortion-driven majority of the album, but it fades like a dramatic Radiohead-lite instrumentally, despite more of Tankian’s smooth vocal delivery, backed by chilly female harmonies. When he gets a sort of reggae tone in his vocals for a brief moment in the bridge, the vibe of the pace-changer is lost entirely.

The preacher’s oration style of the lyrics can reach a boiling point for many, particularly when it comes to a song like “Occupied Tears”. A chorus like “don’t you all know/ don’t you all care/ don’t you all see how this is unfair?” may be attempting to spread awareness, but it comes off as self-righteous with this high-production gloss and lines referencing the Holocaust and questions like “How can you just occupy another child’s tears?” But that’s been Tankian’s role all along, and it’s likely brought serious issues to the attention of plenty of young adults over the years. When Tankian sings in a Weird Al-ish smirk lines like “nipples, tongues, testicle juice” on “Reality TV”, it’s for comedic effect, but it immediately draws listeners into the mindset from which he can call out the irreality of the media.

Throughout the album, it seems that Tankian is preparing the listener for something bigger, something serious. On the title track, he lets slip what may be coming: “Father, tell us when is the time to rise,” he cries out, waiting for an answer. While the mystical, natural world shows signs of failing, and Tankian is aware of all of the evil that’s causing it, he’s here to prepare the world for the eventual battle, not necessarily to lead it. Thanks to the flashes of epic, churning, catchy alt-rock, the world will certainly be pumped up and aware of what he sees coming.
