2013-06-14T09:45:00.000-05:00

In life we are so busy loving and caring for those around us that we forget about self. Today I challenge each of you to do something for you. Do what makes you feel good. Love you and become great at doing so. Learn to care for you. Go shopping, go for a walk in the park, or just sit in a quiet room and allow your brain to reflect solely on you.

Words of Wisdom..Death is Like a Thief

2011-11-29T12:42:00.001-06:00

Walking up Heaven's Staircase

Death has hit my family once again. This time a 29 year old young woman was taken. It is so hard to understand how someone so young, sweet, and cool could be taken so soon. It is hard to understand when death continues to come like a thief in the night and steal those that we care so deeply about. I think God has a master plan. (Like always) I detest when I notice such things as complaining, questioning, and misunderstandings of God and His works. Seriously, it is hard to go through losing a love one, but ultimately who are we? Are we not the ones that we should worry about the most, since we are still living? Are we not the ones that should take valuable lessons from each of his mysterious actions even when things affect us indirectly or directly?

Life is always uncertain, that is why we have to rely on God. Not our mothers, like young children do. As we grow older God is certainly trying to tell us or at least he has always reminded me as I've grown older that I do not answer to my mom anymore. I answer to Him. He knows all about me he knew about me before I entered this world. He knew what Iwould be and what I would become when He perfectly placed me inside my mother's womb. I say that because sometimes we complain about what we experience when in fact we should rejoice. We cry when a child is brought into this world because we know that this world is cruel and full of pain. We rejoice, give thanks, mourn, and grieve when a love one is taken. Ultimately we should celebrate the homegoing of the ones we love the most. Why? The person is now in the hands THE CREATOR. The race has been endured and Our wonderful Father calls home his precious angels eagerly awaiting thier arrivals.

Life does give us so much to think about. I think about death all the time, but I don't let it just make me stop! For when death is presented have you ever noticed that nothing in the world stops. People still go on. I say that because death is a normal part of life. Although, we hurt God knows all about it, but don't you know he loves us more than anybody we could ever come in contact with, will ever love us. He already knows the date, the time, the hour, and the minute that He will call us home. That is why it is ultimately up to us to always stay ready. Please understand that I'm not stating don't cry he understands why we cry and he understands why we mourn, BUT think about it..He only lets us borrow our love ones and one day he wants us all back.

To my family, please understand that although, we are in trying seasons God has not and will not turn His back on either of us. He will only guide us and shows us they way..if we seek His ways. Remember: He is a just God; a good God. He will never put more on us than we can bear. I love him and I know that I too don't understand everything, but everytime something happens as tragic as death; He places words of wisdom on my heart to share with each of you. I hope each of you can help me celebrate the wonderful life my cousin lived. I loved her spirit. She was always sweet and nice to everyone. No one was a stranger to her. I am taking away with me forever to live as she did sweet and full of life. Rest in Peace..my love! Although, God has called you home you will forever and always live inside our hearts. Thank you for being apart of our lives and we will never forget you.

I guess I am able to look at death for what it is because of my experiences with death through my family. I urge everyone to not question God and do not lean to your own understanding, lean to his. Everything works for the good of those that love the Lord. I strongly urged each of you to know him for yourself. Please do not fake it, for you are only doing yourself a diservice. Know Him so that when you do die people are inspired to get to Him due to the way they have seen you live your life.

Tyler Perry Defends Kim K.

2011-11-18T11:09:00.002-06:00

Tyler Perry cast Kim Kardashian in his new film The Marriage Counselor and fans of Perry have gone into overdrive to demand Perry to stop Kim K. from being apart of his movie. Some fans are so angry at Perry that they are considering boycotting his movie. As a matter of fact, many people are boycotting almost any and everything that has to do with the Kardashian brand.

Perry is defending Kim K. He considers Kim to be a great asset to the youth in our society and he even goes so far as calling her a role model for today's youth. How? What makes someone a role model? Seriously!

"It would be a very responsible of her to be a part of this film" and good for young people who see her as a role model to "see her in a film that is about what happens in life when youmake the wrong choices."

----Tyler Perry

Do you consider Kim K. a role model?

Life's Little Lessons

2011-11-02T15:44:00.000-05:00

The devil is always busy! As you continue on in life, this statement only deems factual as time progress. I have learned so much about life, about love, and God. It's funny because growing up in church I always paid very close attention to my pastor, my Sunday school teachers, my Baptist Training Union teachers, and all the members of the church that helped me along the way. We learned so much about God. We learned so much about His son. It's funny when you are a child you learn, but as you grow older you are living and learning.

As a child I had to mature and age to deciper what I had been taught. As I have grown into an adult I have had to apply what I was taught. Which makes it so much easier to understand simply, why Jesus loves me. I remember sitting in the pew and Pastor Franks (my pastor at the time) he said, "He's a mother when your motherless, father when your fatherless, brother when you are brotherless..." As he continued on at the age of 8, I looked around and I witness how those words alone, made the congregration shout to their feet. I remember vividly, seeing this one woman who was sitting right beside her mom, shout.

I thought to myself and I asked God, I said why would she be shouting her mom is sitting right next to her. Well, as I begin to grow up and experience life that question began to surface once again, but this time it was God reminding me. He was reminding me of the very question I had asked him, years ago. Life is so full of amazing experiences. It is full of ups and downs, but what I love the most about life is that God did not put us here to be alone. My God is a Great God. He is the best man. He loves each of us so much. More than we will ever know. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 King James Version

Today was just one of those days, that I wanted to remind you to go into your closet and give God some time pray to Him. He loves when we get alone and we center ourselves in Him. Pray and testify to yourself, remind yourself every now and then where you came from. Let the Lord continue to guide you. Life only gets harder and harder. I promise. I just told myself last week that I had mastered the devil, but he is so decietful and ugly that I just can not keep up with him all by myself. So when I begin to feel the pressures of this cruel world, I call on Jesus. Have you tried Him?

I will leave you with my favorite song at the moment. I watched Le'Andria Johnson sing this song at the Gospel Heritage Month Celebration in Houston, Texas and this song has been my favorite every since. I wanted to share it with you today.
Le'Andria Johnson - "Jesus" Official Lyric Video (Gospel)

Check out the season finale of La La's Full Court Life. I love La La's show because it is clean and fun. She does not ridicule others and her show is unlike many of the dramatic reality shows that many of you have grown accustomed too. I would say it's teenage friendly. The finale episode deals with La La getting handprints at Planet Hollywood and when her bestfriend Po misses the event La La is not too happy. Find out what happens tonight on VH-1 at 9/8C.

KIM K...SPEAKS OUT!!

2011-10-31T14:37:00.000-05:00

So as we reported earlier Kim K..is divorcing her hubby Kris H., (tear)

Kim, 31, gave her first official statement about divorcing Kris, 26, to E! News.

“After careful consideration I have decided to end my marriage,” she says. “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

KIM K..KRIS H..DIVORCE COUNTDOWN...

TMZ..is reporting that the world wind romance between K-Dash and Kris Humphries is officiallly over..the two are going there separate ways due to irreconcilable differences. We have been hearing these rumors for a while, but we did not want to hop on the band-waggon, but of course we all know how obsessed Kim Kardashian has been with marriage since her relationship with former beau, Reggie Bush. It's sad to say that after a $10 million wedding and a fast track courtship that these two will not be together after all.

According to Tmz.."Kim Kardashian will file for divorce this morning, after 72 days of not-so-wedded bliss to Kris Humphries. We're told even though the marriage was short, she will not seek an annulment. It's a garden variety divorce, the date of separation is listed as today, Oct. 31, 2011.

Anyways, it's pretty crazy considering one of Kim's rude remarks during the filming of her FairyTALE Wedding. She stated, (about her sister Khloe, "is she the only one that can marry a basketball player?") Well..Kim..it looks like, yeah she is..you should go apologize for the rude remark that the entire world was able to witness. What do you think about Kim? Is she really just a fame hungry young woman? President Obama spoke out last week, stating that he does not allow his young daughters to watch Keeping up With the Kardashians. Do you allow your children to watch the show?

Its funny because there was a time when they were fun, but after witnessing the negativity during the wedding it's like wow!

How many of you knew that this would not last? Lol!

You Look So Much Better When You Smile

2011-07-07T13:46:00.000-05:00

This song has made a huge difference in my life. I am proud to say with the week I've had I can still smile. God blessed me with a Great-grandmother that lived to see 98 years of life. My family and I are so blessed to have had her. I am glad for all the things that she taught me and things will never be same without her, but her memory lives on in me. All week people asked me, how can you smile? I would be so sad. I would just be devasted. Those are just a few of the comments I recieved. I was just happy to have her for as long as we did. She was a real trooper.

I believe and I always live with two things, God is a good God. God loves us more than we can love each other or ourselves. We make him mad everyday, but yet he continues to say come unto me I'll give you rest. So I said, have your way. #2. What God has for me, it is for me! I believe him to be who He is. I know him for myself. I know life sometimes seems hard, but those are the days you need to look to the hills which cometh your help. Even when we are going through tough times like, death; God cares.

So check out this video..I just think that everyday that we awake..take the day for what it is..a new day..keep joy as your number one emotion..even through the bad..because one thing for sure is God is always working, so smile..everything will be okay. Pray and He will show up and show out. After all, "YOU LOOK SO MUCH BETTER WHEN YOU SMILE!"

Oprah Winfrey Recieves Honorary Doctorate

2011-06-27T16:50:00.000-05:00

Congrats to Dr. Oprah Winfrey, she received an Honorary Doctorate degree from the University of the Free State in South Africa on Friday, June 17, 2011. Oprah has done so much to help South Africa and she visits quite often considering the fact that she owns the Leadership Academy for Girls in Henley on Kilp.

The Chicago Times, reported that it was only five years ago when she made a visit to South Africa after a racist video was made. The video showed four white children laughing while black housekeeping staff ate stew that children had spiked with urine.

Oprah brought the incident to the public light
After receiving her award Oprah called the housekeepers on stage and said to them, "what has happened here at Free State in terms of racial reconciliation, of peace, of harmony, of one heart understanding and opening itself to another heart is nothing short of a miracle; it is truly what the new South Africa is all about."

Congrats Oprah, you continue to show the world that your work is never done. I love how education continues to come back around. EDUCATION..ONE OF HER MOST PROLIFIC TOPICS...I believe that Doctorates should be earned and I would like to add that she has indeed earned this title..Some critics do not believe that Winfrey should be called Doctor, but I strongly disagree.

Houston City Council Members Challenge Houston's Mayor's Budget Plan

2011-06-16T16:00:00.001-05:00

Houston City Council Woman Jolanda Jones along with the entire Houston City Council members are challenging Mayor Annise Parker's budget plan for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2011.

Last month, Parker presented an $1.8 billion general fund budget to members. A plan that many members are not supporting. The plan calls for spending $100 million less than in the fiscal year that ends June 30. The cuts include the layoff of 747 city employees, reduced library hours and the closure of eight pools and seven community centers.

Houston City Council members presented 58 amendments to Mayor Parker on Wednesday that consisted of multiple proposals that would cut $36 million from a variety of departments, keeping community centers open and giving more business to minority-owned firms.

Councilwoman Jolanda Jones proposed that the city set a goal of having minority owned firms get 35 percent of the city’s business, more than triple the current goal for purchasing contracts and well above the existing goals in construction and professional services. The overall proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1 totals $4 billion. A little more than half of that is related to so-called enterprise funds, such as the airport and public utilities, that generate their own revenue. The $1.8 billion general fund, which covers most of the city’s daily operations, depends on property and sales taxes and fees and revenue. Jolanda Jones understands the melting pot of this city. The minority is the majority. However, the minority majority has been given a check marked insufficient funds when it comes to awarding contracts to Minority Women Business Enterprises. With Jolanda’s recommendation these enterprises will be able to cash that ckeck.

The Houston Chronicle, is reporting that, "Councilman Mike Sullivan proposed 28 amendments that, if adopted, would cut another $36 million. It was unclear late Wednesday whether some of his biggest ticket items properly identify specific mayoral proposals, but Sullivan is targeting the office in charge of publication of the weekly council agenda, gang prevention and dangerous building demolition. He also proposed cuts in city sponsorships, affirmative action and building maintenance. He proposed smaller cuts, as well, including cutting the mayor’s $209,138 annual salary by 5 percent and council members’ $55,770 salary by 5 percent."

What do you think? Do you agree with Parker or the city council members?

THE OPRAH WINFREY'S SHOW SEASON FINALE

2011-05-25T15:10:00.000-05:00

Today marks the last day of the OPRAH WINFREY SHOW..the show has graced our televisions for 25 years. Oprah has paved the way for many women of all backgrounds, professions, ethnicities, and etc.Although, this is her last time stepping on the stage that made her famous, we all know that this is not and will not be the last time we hear from her.

The Queen of Media has helped us all to believe in ourselves, our dreams, and she taught us that our struggles help us to become who we are. Therefore, we should never be ashamed of who we are. Nor should we ever be of ashame of things we have gone through. She taught women and men life lessons about how to handle and deal with the effects and lingering feelings of abuse. She taught us to take care of ourselves by excerising, eating right, living right, and most of all not to fear a trip to the doctor. She taught us that prevention and diagnosis are always in our best interest when treating or dealing with any medical situation. I could continue to speak on everything, but then this blog would be absolutely too long.

This season of Oprah has been a season of intimacy. Oprah used her time to reflect the previous seasons leading to this moment. We all have known for a while that this would undoubtedly be her last season, but now that the time is here I feel somewhat like, "now what?" Oprah is always interesting. As an interviewer she could almost, always conjour up answers from the hottest stars to date; getting them to answer some of the toughest questions. The questions that many interviewers could never get an answer to. Do you remember when she got Jennifer Hudson to finally give us an answer on how much weight she really lost with Weight Watchers? (IF NOT SHE SAID IT WAS 80LBS. TO BE EXACT)

The Season Finale, is finally here and many are wondering what could this last show be about? Who is the special guest? Is Oprah going to give away something or surprise us? The answer is no. The show will consist of Oprah reflecting with her audienc different things that happened throughout her reign.

"Today there will be no guests, there will be no makeovers or surprises…You will not be getting a car or a tree. This last hour is really about me saying thank you. It is my love letter to you. I want to leave you all with the lessons that have been the anchor for my life and the ones that I hold most precious."
"It has been a privilege for me to speak to you here. You let me into your homes to talk to you everyday. This is what you allowed me to do, and I thank you for that. But what I want you to know is each of you has your own platform. Do not let the trappings here fool you. Mine is a stage on a studio. Wherever you are, that is your platform, your stage, your circle of influence. That is your talk show and that is where your power lies. Everybody has a calling, mine aligned with my profession, my job. Not everybody gets paid for it, but everybody gets called…My great wish for all of you who've allowed me to honor my calling is you carry whatever you're supposed to be doing forward. Don't waste anymore time. Use your light to serve the world."--OPRAH

CROCKETT TEXAS NATIVE..PVAMU ALUMNI..DR.. E'LORIA SIMON CAMPBELL MAKES HISTORY @ UT TYLER

2011-05-25T11:41:00.000-05:00

Dr. E'Loria Simon Campbell

Today while I was reading through countless emails I stubbled upon an amazing story about a remarkable woman who has made history along with three other women for recieving to recieve a Ph.D at UT Tyler.

Dr. E'loria Simon Campbell is breaking barriers, defying odds, and making history. I wanted to take the time to personally salute her for all of her hardwork.

Dr. Campbell, 41, is a clinical assistant professor at Prairie View A&M University's College of Nursing in Houston, Texas.

After graduating from Crocket High School in 1988, she began work as a licensed vocational nurse in Crockett. She later obtained a bachelor's degree from Prairie View and a master's from UT Tyler online. She said, it was after that, that she received information about the doctoral program.

With a dissertation focused on empowerment as a hypertension management strategy for black women, Dr. Campbell shared with the Tyler Morning Telegraph that, "Black people are more affected by hypertension than any other race; black women are more affected than black men."

Congratulations to Dr. Campbell for showing us all that, hard work pays off. When you go get it..it comes back to you. Crockett and PV continues to "produce productive people!"

Above, (ftom left) Shellye Vardaman, Irene Gilliland, Monica Ramirez, and E'Loria Simon Campbell have their photo taken at the Ornelas Activity Center. They are the first four University of Texas at Tyler online nursing Ph. D. graduates. (Staff Photo By Herb Nygren Jr.)

The Donald 'Personally Congratulates' The President

2011-05-02T15:28:00.000-05:00

After all the things Donald Trump has said in an attempt to disqualify our President as an American citizen, he has now offered his personal feelings to the President and the Armed Forces on the successful plot that lead them to Osama Bin Laden. He congratulated the President using heartfelt words and decided to put political differences to the side, as he joined in with millions of others in this country rejoicing the United States victory. Now Trump can clearly see that the President has been working hard all along. What do you think about the Donald OR do you even think anything at all?

"I want to personally congratulate President Obama and the men and women of the Armed Forces for a job well done. I am so proud to see Americans standing shoulder to shoulder, waving the American flag in celebration of this great victory. We should spend the next several days not debating party politics, but in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and those currently fighting for our freedom.

God bless America!"
