Beatnik site. Interesting poem that was almost accepted by another magazine but they changed their mind.

Several dozen submissions waiting for an acceptance by print or online journals, Windfall and Psychic Meatloaf and Calyx . . . . .

Great publications seem a requirement to Tiger's Eye and others journals.

This young man, 6 Killa or Warren, read at Salem Third Thursday Readings and cafes with his friend Miguel Loredo, Qatamo. I have a chapbook or two of 6 Killa's proud Native American poetry. Some Native Americans now hate being called Native.

It's nice to get an acceptance among the many rejections and slow publications and very very slow decisions of journal, magazine editors.

I have poems from cafes, bars, restaurant/ pizzeria open mics with a wide variety of music, especially at these open mic readings with a jazz band or original folk and rock, light or not.

At 6 Killa's Reading

To my right sit several guys.

One carries an acoustic guitar

as an appendage.

His broad shoulders

lean forward or back

elbow to fist to square chin.

His feet on floor

tap to the beat.

Then he grabs the mouth of

his Corona.

Warren yells of, to guys

like him in

baggy slouched jeans.

He wears fashionable jeans,

blue and faded white-washed . . .

From sliding into bases?

A white man's sport?

He recites

his long work, and these are

favorite to some here.

He recites

Half a World Away

A Letter to Chris (Columbus) and

Welcome to Black Mesa

An older white man

beats his 3 long bongo drums

and blows into his didjeridu.

Warren, 6Killa yells

last week I struggled

for laundry money,

so do I sometimes.

Pieces of A Borrowed Poem

I’m creating not crying,

not this time.

I’m waiting, riding Amtrak bus,

but Kesey, friends jumped tracks,

hitched rides.

Saw Kesey’s statue, The Storyteller –

read his words of his plants –

nettle and clover,

ghost fern and more.

Rode the EmX bus and

watched the Breeze busses

to U of O or Lane Colleges

in the city of a

kind tree and a DanceAbility.

Watching now

a bright yellow Morning Glory store.

Walked past the Green Store and

The Red Agave.

Sat watching the local Jackalope Lounge

and the trendy Buffalo Exchange.

I’m writing in the shadows of

ghosts and ghost stories

after browsing the Beats at bookstores

and buying two by Kerouac.

I’m waiting outside Amtrak

father, son hoping to visit Wisconsin

mother, children traveling to Portland,

returning to Florida.

strange curious glances later.

The Food Stamp Orientation

I arrive on time at 1:15p.m. in the Silver Falls Room.

We are given a few instructions.

You will receive several papers. Be prepared.

Your name will be called up to 3 times. Be aware.

“I gotta buy gum,” says the lady next to me

as she writes her hand a note.

Sneeze. Sneeze.

“Bless you” says the guy across the room

but not the lover next to her.

One guy reminds me of a friend of a friend,

a Beat poetry lover/ fan. This guy here talks

politics, foreign made products and gas alternatives.

I examine posters.

Quality. Attitude. Vision, in frames with captions.

One guy across the room steals several

Ultra Round Stic Bic pens. So do I.

Another guy says “I have about 50 of those.”

No One Deserves to Be Hurt, in 8 languages.

Say No to Violence. Say Yes to Safety, in English and Spanish.

My name is inquired.

Soon there are two left. “The last of the Mohicans,” the Beat man says.

I forgot to sign in.

I am seen by a case-worker.

I leave about 15 minutes later, about 2:45.

Short Bio

Nicole Taylor has attended college in Salem, Oregon where she lives near her siblings, mother and other family. She has been published in her college newspaper, two anthologies and some online. Poet Bios -
My name is Nicole and I have attended college in Salem, Oregon where I live near her siblings, mother and other family. I have been published in her college newspaper and a local anthology. I have also won several contests in a local bookstore and her college newspaper and two local poetry workshops. I attend local workshops, readings, and festivals.
I currently have many projects: anthologies, contests, journals, magazines, residencies, ….
My work has appeared in Chemeketa College's art supplement newspaper VISIONS and Building 45 online. My work has also appeared at wordgathering.com and at kindtree.org for poetry and two small oil paintings.

I have lists of Oregon's journals, women's journals, disability journals, and more and programs that I may post or send. Poems coming soon.
