You probably already know that tea is an incredibly healthy beverage. In fact, studies show that if you drink tea regularly, you may reduce your risk of Alzheimer's and diabetes, plus have healthier teeth and gums and stronger bones. But not everything you've heard about tea is true. Here are 5 myths about tea busted.

Myth #1: Adding Milk to Tea Negates the Health Benefits

Although some studies have suggested adding milk to tea undoes its heart-healthy benefits, recent research says that's not necessarily the case... roughly the same amount of catechins (antioxidants linked with a reduced risk of some cancers) were absorbed from milk-tinged tea as from plain black tea, according to a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Myth #2: Peppermint Tea Is a Good Choice for Tummy Troubles

While a cup of herbal tea can help to soothe an upset stomach, mint is not necessarily the best choice. Peppermint aggravates a condition known as GERD (gastrointestinal reflux disease)—recurrent heartburn. A better choice for an upset stomach—especially nausea or motion sickness—is ginger tea. Just steep a quarter-size piece of fresh ginger in boiling water.

Myth #3: Tea Is Healthiest When Nothing Is Added to It

The citric acid in a squeeze of lemon juice—or lime or orange juice—will help to preserve the flavanoids in tea if you're brewing it ahead (such as if you're making iced tea). The flavanoids are the compounds deemed responsible for many of tea's health boons. Also, adding honey to your tea may make you more productive on the job, suggests a small 2010 study published in the journal Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental. When study participants drank the two together, researchers found that areas of the brain associated with attention worked more efficiently than when tea was sipped solo

Myth #4: Herbal Tea Is Tea

Actually, true tea comes from the plant Camellia sinensis. While black, green, oolong and white teas come from this plant, herbal varieties are usually made from the flowers and even bark of other plants. Herbal teas are technically tisanes.

Myth #5: Tea Doesn't Go Bad

Tea does have a shelf life: 6 months. After that, it starts to lose its antioxidants. A 2009 study in the Journal of Food Science showed that catechins in green tea decreased markedly over time. After six months, catechin levels were 32 percent lower. Make the most of the antioxidants by storing tea in a sealed container in a dark, cool place.

"Eight in 10 retailers surveyed by Shop.org, the online division of the National Retail Federation, said they planned to offer Cyber Monday discounts, while 58% of people with Internet access at the office say they plan to shop online during the workday," reports The Washington Post.

Americans are expected to spend $1.5 billion online today, up 20% from last year. Here are some tips for maximizing your Cyber Monday shopping:

Scope out the sales. Browse dedicated sites like CyberMonday2012.com, check ads and visit your favorite stores' websites

Comparison shop. To ensure you pay the lowest online price, enter an item in the search engine of a price-comparison website. I prefer PriceGrabber.com, but I also check Bizrate.com and Nextag.com just to be sure.

Check the return policy. This is especially important if you're buying a gift. To avoid sticking a loved one (or yourself) with an unwanted purchase, check out "Best and worst return policies for 2012 gifts," which offers instructions for interpreting return policies for online purchases.

Use a secure Internet connection. Unprotected Wi-Fi networks, like the ones you may access at coffee shops or bookstores, make it easier for identity thieves to intercept your personal information, including credit or debit card details.

Shop secure websites. Instead of the standard http://, look for the https:// protocol in front of a store's website address in your browser (the "s" stands for "secure"). You may also see a lock symbol, another indication of a secure website, next to the website address. If you don't see either, check whether the store offers a secure checkout option like PayPal.

Avoid shipping costs if possible. Keep an eye out for free-shipping promo codes, which many stores offer to shoppers who spend a certain amount. You should also always search FreeShipping.org before making an online purchase.

Pay with a discounted gift card. Some websites, like Plastic Jungle, sell electronic versions. (However, Plastic Jungle says its e-codes may take about 24 hours to be emailed to you if you've never bought one before.)

Get a rebate. Rebate websites like Ebates, Big Crumbs and Extrabux essentially pay you to shop

Actor Larry Hagman, TV's J.R. Ewing of 'Dallas,' dies

Actor Larry Hagman played the iconic role of J.R. Ewing in television's "Dallas," which had been revived by the TNT network. He died Friday at 81.

Larry Hagman, who created one of American television's most supreme villains in the conniving, amoral oilman J.R. Ewing of "Dallas," died on Friday, according to a co-star. He was 81.
Hagman died at a Dallas hospital of complications from his battle with throat cancer, the Dallas Morning News reported, quoting a statement from his family. He had suffered from liver cancer and cirrhosis of the liver in the 1990s after decades of drinking.
Linda Gray, who played J.R.'s long-suffering wife, Sue Ellen, was with Hagman in Dallas when he died, the actress' spokesman, Jeffrey Lane, said in an email.
"Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years," Gray said in a statement. "He was the Pied Piper of life and brought joy to everyone he knew. He was creative, funny, loving and talented, and I will miss him enormously."

Hagman's mother was stage and movie star Mary Martin and he became a star himself in 1965 on "I Dream of Jeannie," a popular television sitcom in which he played Major Anthony Nelson, an astronaut who discovers a beautiful genie in a bottle.
"Dallas," which made its premiere on the CBS network in 1978, made Hagman a superstar. The show quickly became one of the network's top-rated programs, built an international following and inspired a spin-off, imitators and a revival in 2012.
"Dallas" was the night-time soap-opera story of a Texas family, fabulously wealthy from oil and cattle, and its plot brimmed with back-stabbing, double-dealing, family feuds, violence, adultery and other bad behaviour.
In the middle of it all stood Hagman's black-hearted J.R. Ewing - grinning wickedly in a broad cowboy hat and boots, plotting how to cheat his business competitors and cheat on his wife. He was the villain TV viewers loved to despise during the show's 356-episode run from 1978 to 1991.
"I really can't remember half of the people I've slept with, stabbed in the back or driven to suicide," Hagman said of his character in Time magazine.
In his autobiography, "Hello Darlin': Tall (and Absolutely True) Tales About My Life," Hagman wrote that J.R. originally was not to be the focus of "Dallas" but that changed when he began ad-libbing on the set to make his character more outrageous and compelling.
'WHO SHOT J.R.?'
To conclude its second season, the "Dallas" producers put together one of U.S. television's most memorable episodes in which Ewing was shot by an unseen assailant. That gave fans months to fret over whether J.R. would survive and who had pulled the trigger. In the show's opening the following season, it was revealed that J.R.'s sister-in-law, Kristin, with whom he had been having an affair, was behind the gun.
Hagman said an international publisher offered him $250,000 to reveal who had shot J.R. and he considered giving the wrong information and taking the money, but in the end, "I decided not to be so like J.R. in real life."
The popularity of "Dallas" made Hagman one of the best-paid actors in television and earned him a fortune that even a Ewing would have coveted. He lost some of it, however, in bad oil investments before turning to real estate.
"I have an apartment in New York, a ranch in Santa Fe, a castle in Ojai outside of L.A., a beach house in Malibu and thinking of buying a place in Santa Monica," Hagman said in a Chicago Tribune interview.
An updated "Dallas" series began in June 2012 on the TNT network with Hagman reprising his J.R. role with original cast members Gray, who played J.R.'s wife, and Patrick Duffy, who was his brother Bobby. The show was to focus on the sons of J.R. and Bobby.
Hagman had a wide eccentric streak. When he first met actress Lauren Bacall, he licked her arm because he had been told she did not like to be touched and he was known for leading parades on the Malibu beach and showing up at a grocery store in a gorilla suit. Above his Malibu home flew a flag with the credo "Vita Celebratio Est (Life Is a Celebration)" and he lived hard for many years.
In 1967, rock musician David Crosby turned him on to LSD, which Hagman said took away his fear of death, and Jack Nicholson introduced him to marijuana because Nicholson thought he was drinking too much.
Hagman had started drinking as a teenager and said he did not stop until the moment in 1992 when his doctor told him he had cirrhosis of the liver and could die within six months. Hagman wrote that for the past 15 years he had been drinking about four bottles of champagne a day, including while on the "Dallas" set.
LIVER TRANSPLANT
In July 1995, he was diagnosed with liver cancer, which led him to quit smoking, and a month later he underwent a liver transplant.
After giving up his vices, Hagman said he did not lose his zest for life.
"It's the same old Larry Hagman," he told a reporter. "He's just a littler sober-er."
Hagman was born on September 21, 1931, in Weatherford, Texas, and his father was a lawyer who dealt with the Texas oil barons Hagman would later come to portray. He was still a boy when his parents divorced and he went to Los Angeles with Martin, who would become a big name in Hollywood and a Tony winner on Broadway, where she starred in "Peter Pan" and "The Sound of Music."
Hagman eventually landed in New York to pursue acting, making his stage debut there in "The Taming of the Shrew." In New York, he married Maj Axelsson in 1954 while they were in a production of "South Pacific. The marriage produced two children, Heidi and Preston.
Hagman served in the Air Force, spending five years in Europe as the director of USO shows, and on his return to New York he took a starring role in the daytime soap "The Edge of Night." His breakthrough came in 1965 when he landed the "I Dream of Jeannie" role opposite Barbara Eden.
In his later years, Hagman became an advocate for organ transplants and an anti-smoking campaigner. He also was devoted to solar energy, telling the New York Times he had a $750,000 solar panel system at his Ojai estate, and made a commercial in which he portrayed a J.R. Ewing who had forsaken oil for solar power. He was a longtime member of the Peace and Freedom Party, a minor leftist organization in California.
Hagman told the Times that after death he wanted his remains to be "spread over a field and have marijuana and wheat planted and harvest it in a couple of years and then have a big marijuana cake, enough for 200 to 300 people. People would eat a little of Larry."

Anti-aging tricks that really work !

One thing's for sure: when it comes to fighting the good fight against aging, there is no shortage of options. But with everyone claiming to offer the fountain of youth (be it in a jar, syringe, or pill), how
do you figure out what's really worth your time—and your money?"
A youthful appearance comes from two things: smooth, firm skin, and a bright, even-toned complexion," says dermatologist Howard Sobel, MD, director of the New York Institute of Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery. So anything that helps you achieve those goals should be at the top of your list. To help you find the moves with the biggest beauty payoff, we went to the experts.
Here, they suggest lifestyle changes, over-the-counter products, and in-office fixes that help you look younger. Plus, we'll tell you how many years each trick can take off!
You want: Smooth, firm skin
The lifestyle fix. "Wrinkles, fine lines, sagging—they're all the result of collagen loss and the fact that skin loses the ability to hydrate itself effectively as we age," says Steven Dayan, MD, a Chicago-based facial plastic surgeon.
But the good news is that tweaking your diet can slow the aging process. "Women with nutrient-rich diets tend to have firmer skin," explains Dr. Dayan, who recommends eating foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, as well as foods with vitamins E and C, which "help to promote the production of collagen."
Knowing what not to eat and drink is important, too. Atop the don't list? Alcohol, which dehydrates skin. "As skin becomes drier and less elastic, it looks less supple," Dr. Sobel notes.
And don't underestimate the power of a good (and long!) night's sleep. "When you don't get enough sleep, the body produces excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells," Dr. Sobel says. Getting plenty of rest helps your body "produce more human growth hormone, which helps skin remain supple and elastic so it's less likely to wrinkle prematurely."
Results: Improve your diet, cut back on alcohol, and increase sleep, and you can look two to three years younger in about four to six weeks, experts say.

The over-the-counter fix. To soften lines without a doctor's help, "use products with hyaluronic acid, which captures and holds water in the skin, helping to plump up lines and wrinkles," Dr. Dayan says.
Another must-have in your wrinkle-fighting arsenal: a product with retinol. "Retinol, derived from vitamin A, thickens the epidermis, increasing skin firmness," says Ronald Moy, MD, president-elect of the American Academy of Dermatology and director of dermatology for the California Health and Longevity Institute.
Dr. Moy also suggests applying a serum with epidermal growth factors (EGFs), one of the newest ingredients to hit the anti-aging skin-care market. "EGFs are peptides that thicken skin and may increase cell turnover even faster than topical retinoids," he notes.
Results: After four weeks of using a wrinkle-plumping cream with hyaluronic acid, a daily moisturizer with retinol, and an EGF serum at night, you may look two to four years younger.
The in-office fix. Fillers (gels made with hyaluronic acid that are injected just beneath skin) remain the gold standard for plumping up wrinkles and fine lines. They also "add back some of the volume that disappears with age," Dr. Dayan says. A plastic surgeon or dermatologist can inject fillers, such as Juvederm or Restylane, in a few minutes, and the wrinkle-smoothing results last 6 to 12 months. Unfortunately, those results come at a steep cost: a treatment with fillers starts at $350 and can go up to more than $1,000, depending on the doctor, the filler used, and how much is needed.
Results: In a recent study, doctors estimated that women who got filler injections looked up to seven years younger (while the women themselves thought they looked up to nine years younger!).
You want: A bright, even-toned complexion
The lifestyle fix. Skin that seems to glow from within (without age spots or areas of redness) is another hallmark of youth, and, once again, a nutrient-rich diet plays a big role in maintaining this look. Unfortunately, the reverse is also true: The worse your diet, the more sallow your complexion will be. "There's evidence that people who eat diets high in refined sugars get a dull, yellow cast to their skin," Dr. Dayan explains.
So, what's on the grocery list for a glowing complexion? Lots of leafy, green vegetables (they're loaded with minerals like calcium and iron) and foods rich in essential fatty acids (avocado, nuts, seeds, etc.). "Essential fatty acids help to regulate cellular function and have anti-inflammatory properties that can alleviate skin redness," Dr. Dayan says. Antioxidant-rich fruits like blueberries may also help even out your complexion by reducing hyperpigmentation (brown spots usually caused by sun damage to the skin's DNA).
Outside of the kitchen, exercise also revitalizes and adds radiance to your complexion. "It increases oxygen flow to skin cells, which results in better tissue health," Dr. Dayan points out.
Results: Loading up on the healthy foods suggested above and exercising at least three times a week may get you looking two to four years younger—though it will take at least a month to see those results.
The over-the-counter fix. Exfoliating is key to getting radiant skin, and products containing glycolic acid gently slough away dead skin. Brazilian Peel, with 30 percent glycolic acid, is one of the strongest peels available outside of a doctor's office; one 10-minute treatment a week evens out your skin tone in about a month.
Dr. Moy suggests treating specific areas of hyperpigmentation with pigment-inhibiting ingredients like hydroquinone or azaleic or kojic acids. And don't forget the daily SPF to prevent new spots.
Results: Using an at-home peel, a spot treatment, and a moisturizer with SPF, it takes about a month to see changes. The results are worth the wait: You can look up to three years younger.
The in-office fix. One of the best ways to achieve a radiant, even-toned complexion is a derm-administered glycolic peel. "Glycolic acid, which can be delivered at strengths of up to 70 percent in an office, gives a very deep exfoliation, revealing brighter skin and even removing some dark spots," Dr. Moy says. Depending on the strength of the peel, results can last up to six months, and costs range from $100 to $250.
Dr. Dayan also recommends intense pulse light (IPL) treatments, which use light energy to correct pigment issues, treat broken capillaries, and reduce redness. Treatments are generally done in a series, and sessions start at $150. Unfortunately, IPL treatments don't work well on darker skin tones. But you can see similar spot-reducing results from a non-light-based treatment, such as Ematrix, a device that emits bipolar fractional radio frequency (sessions cost $300 and up).
Results: Chemical peels may make you look two to four years younger, and IPL or bipolar fractional radio frequency may shave up to five years off your looks because the treatments have the added benefit of boosting collagen production for a firmer face.

Watch out, those Black Friday deals may be a scam

Been waiting in line all night to snag some impressive Black Friday deals? Sorry, experts say you won’t necessarily get the best prices post-turkey. Turns out lots of these so-called bargains are marketing ploys and the same stuff is often available for less at other times of year. For example, the shopping gurus at Decide Inc. who specialize in analyzing prices, say Home Depot’s Adora GE dishwasher on sale today for $598 was $30 cheaper last month. Does $319.99 sound cheap for a KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer at Sears? It’s a bluff; it was just $296 back in March. So unless you just love following the crowd, compare prices before joining the crush of shoppers.

This year a Facebook vote decided which bird would be spared and Obama cracked, "Once again, Nate Silver completely nailed it," referencing the analyst whose poll science was mocked by Republicans. Even his vanquished opponent, who whined that Obama won the election with "gifts" to voters, got a jab: "In the spirit of the season, I have one more gift to give," the president said, "and it goes to a pair of turkeys." "Chocolate contains theobromine, which acts very effectively as a cough suppressant," says Teitelbaum. Theobromine works by suppressing the firing of the vagus nerve, which is a key feature of a chronic cough, according to a study published in The Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. Since it's found in cocoa beans, theobromine is present in all chocolate products but is higher in dark chocolate, unsweetened baking chocolate and cocoa powder than in milk chocolate. An exact amount of chocolate has yet to be determined, but 2 ounces of dark chocolate for adults and 1 ounce for children may help, says Teitelbaum.

Let's face it, salon manicures and pedicures look great for about…three days. Then real life gets in the way (as it tends to) and that poor mani/pedi gets scuffed. One wrong move and your gorgeous nails chip, crack, and peel.

I'm no stranger to a chipped mani here (especially a fresh one) or a smudged pedi there. There's really nothing more frustrating than spending what feels like half a day in the salon, only to reach into your purse and snag your nails on the zipper of your wallet. (Ladies, you know what I'm talking about.)

That sort of mishap is fixable at the salon, but what about 30 minutes later when you look down and notice you've chipped the corner of your pinkie nail? That kind of mess you have to clean up at home — by yourself.

Stress not. I have ten easy tips to make your nails last well into next week.

1. Start With a Clean Nail Bed

Whether you're giving yourself a mani/pedi or getting one at a salon, make sure your nails get cleaned properly before you do anything else. (Do not skip this step.) Our nails secrete natural oils, making it harder for nail polish to adhere to the bed.

2. File First

Uneven filing or snags at the end of your nails are invitations for disaster. Make sure your nails are evenly filed, straight across with slightly rounded edges. The "squoval" shape keeps the longest without causing chips.

3. Rinse Between Cleaning and Filing

After filing your nails, wash your hands thoroughly to get rid of any filings or snags. You don't want flecks in your nail polish.

Skipping the base coat in a manicure is so tempting. Who has the time to wait around for four layers of polish? You do. (If you want the manicure to last.) Using a base coat ensures you have a clean, smooth surface to paint.

6. Apply Two Layers of Color

It's tempting to glop on one thick coat of nail polish color and call it a day. But you'll pay later for skipping out on that second coat when indentations show up to ruin your hard work. Be patient and paint one thin layer of color at a time. Wait two minutes (at least!) between the first and second coat of color so things don't get sticky. (Gross.)

7. Apply a Top Coat

Again, a top coat seems like a step that's easy to skip. Don't be tempted. Your pretty nails need a top coat to seal in the color. The top coat will also take the brunt of the wear and tear on your mani/pedi. Just remember, before you apply, make sure the colored polish is dry.

8. Do Not Touch Anything

This may seem obvious, but many a mani/pedi has met its demise by not following this rule. Not waiting long enough for your polish to dry is the No. 1 mistake most of us make. Sure, we're all in a hurry. But if you don't wait long enough, the whole thing will have been a waste of your time. Fact: Nails need at least 45 minutes to an hour to dry completely. I'm such a big offender, bumping my nails all over the place before they're dry.

9. Treat Nicks Immediately

Whether you're two hours or two days out from your manicure or pedicure, fill a nick or scratch immediately with nail polish in the same color family. This will prevent the problem from getting worse.

10. Continue to Reapply the Top Coat

Keep a top coat handy — in your car, at your desk, or on your nightstand. Be sure to apply a thin layer every few days to keep your nails strong and protected.

All these steps may seem like a lot of work, but it's worth it in the end. A mani/pedi can last a couple of weeks if you take care of your nails along the way. No shortcuts! Shop Now !

3. A classic lip: Using a lip brush ensures that every bit of the lip is covered evenly. To create a more intense look, apply a matching lip liner around the natural line of the lip after lipstick application.

How To Get Gorgeous Skin ! :))

* Don't go to bed with makeup on. Makeup left on overnight seeps into your pores, clogs them, and congests your skin. Make sure that you wash your face twice at the end of the day. Once to get the makeup off. A second time to wash the skin itself.

* Exfoliate daily. After washing your face at night, be sure to exfoliate. Use a delicate scrub. If you don't have one on hand, a tablespoon of sugar or oatmeal will work just fine.

* Use facial masks regularly. If possible, everyday is ideal. Again, if you don't have one on hand, make your own. Mashed banana or avocado is good. Plain yogurt also works well.

* Keep a treatment and moisturizer on your face, day or night. Put your skin first. After you wash it at night, put on some kind of skin treatment, whether it's alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin A or C, or any kind of special cocktail treatment. Let that sink in, then put a moisturizer over that. In the morning, do the same.

* Don't use the cheapest or most expensive cosmetics. Mom tells me that moderately priced cosmetics are the best. They get the job done, and the ingredients are usually pretty good. You have to keep trying various brands until you find something that works well for you.

* Hydrate your face throughout the day. Whether it's a commercial product, or one you make yourself (fill a spray bottle with distilled water, add a few drops of chamomile or rose essential oil, shake it gently before each use, and spray it on) hydrate your face, even over makeup, frequently throughout the day.

* Treat your face gently. Never pull, tug, or scrub your facial skin. Be very gentle when you clean it, moisturize it or makeup on it. This will lessen the chance that you'll damage your skin and get wrinkles.

* Keep your face covered when you're in the sun. As beautiful as she is, my mom never lets anyone see her face when she's in the sun. She'll slather on a high factor sunscreen, put on sunglasses, and a wide brimmed hat.

* Eat fresh foods and drink lots of water. My mom tells me to stay away from "dead food" food that's basically not fresh. She always eat lots of veggies, fruits, nuts, and drinks tons of water.

* Let go of stress. Stress can show up on your face, no matter how well you take care of your skin. Do something your enjoy everyday, whether it's watching TV or going shopping. Your face reflects what's going on inside of your mind. :)) xoxox
