Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, a form of money that uses cryptography to control its creation and management, rather than relying on central authorities. The presumed pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto (the creator of bitcoin) integrated many existing ideas from the cypherpunk community when creating bitcoin.

Cypherpunks are activists who advocate the widespread use of strong cryptography (writing in code) as a route to progressive change.

In November 2008, a paper was posted on the internet under the name Satoshi Nakamoto titled bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. This paper detailed methods of using a peer-to-peer network to generate what was described as "a system for electronic transactions without relying on trust".

In January 2009, the bitcoin network came into existence with the release of the first open source bitcoin client and the issuance of the first bitcoins,with Satoshi Nakamoto mining the first block of bitcoins ever (known as the "genesis block"), which had a reward of 50 bitcoins. The value of the first bitcoin transactions were negotiated by individuals on the bitcointalk forums with one notable transaction of 10,000 BTC used to indirectly purchase two pizzas delivered by Papa John’s.

On 6 August 2010, a major vulnerability in the bitcoin protocol was spotted. Transactions weren't properly verified before they were included in the transaction log or "blockchain" which let users bypass bitcoin's economic restrictions and create an indefinite number of bitcoins. On 15 August, the vulnerability was exploited; over 184 billion bitcoins were generated in a transaction, and sent to two addresses on the network. Within hours, the transaction was spotted and erased from the transaction log after the bug was fixed and the network forked to an updated version of the bitcoin protocol. This was the only major security flaw found and exploited in bitcoin's history.

Organizations began to receiving bitcoins as donations. The Electronic Frontier Foundation began, and then temporarily suspended, bitcoin acceptance, citing concerns about a lack of legal precedent about new currency systems. They reversed their decision and continued collecting bitcoin.

In February 2013 the bitcoin-based payment processor Coinbase reported selling US$1 million worth of bitcoins in a single month at over $22 per bitcoin.The Internet Archive announced that it was ready to accept donations as bitcoins and that it intends to give employees the option to receive portions of their salaries in bitcoin currency.

In March the bitcoin transaction log or "blockchain" temporarily forked into two independent logs with differing rules on how transactions could be accepted. An exchange company briefly halted bitcoin deposits and the exchange rate briefly dipped by 23% to $37 as the event occurred before recovering to previous level of approximately $48 in the following hours.

In April, payment processors BitInstant and Mt. Gox experienced processing delays due to insufficient capacity resulting in the bitcoin exchange rate dropping from $266 to $76 before returning to $160 within six hours.

Bitcoin gained greater recognition when services such as OkCupid and Foodler began accepting it for payment.

On 15 May 2013, the US authorities seized accounts associated with Mt. Gox after discovering that it had not registered as a money transmitter with FinCEN in the US.

On 23 June 2013, it was reported that the US Drug Enforcement Administration listed 11.02 bitcoins as a seized asset in a United States Department of Justice seizure notice pursuant to 21 U.S.C. § 881. It is the first time a government agency has claimed to have seized bitcoin.

The price of a bitcoin reached an all-time high of US$1124.76 on 29 November 2013, up from just US$13.36 on 5 January at the start of the year; the price subsequently dropped into the $200-$300 range.

A Bitcoin ATM

Two companies, Robocoin and Bitcoiniacs launched the world's first bitcoin ATM on 29 October 2013 in Vancouver, BC, Canada, allowing clients to sell or purchase bitcoin currency at a downtown coffee shop.

That is my stage name. My real name is Eveshoyan. I’m from Edo state, from a family of six, but my parents are late. Only four of us are left: two girls and two boys. I’m based in Abuja

When did you start acting?

I started acting in 2007, but officially in 2010. I started when I was in Kogi State. I began with their local movies. Then in 2009 I went to Port Harcourt on a mission. But officially I registered with AGN Abuja in 2010.

Who or what inspired you into acting?

I got my inspiration from watching movies when I was still 13 or 14 years old. Then, I was aspiring to be a musician, but is not easy to sing, so I now swapped. I decided it was better to go into acting because I love acting more. I started by miming people in movies, watching them with interest before I finally got a friend who introduced me to a producer who wanted to shoot a movie in Kogi State. In that movie, they brought in Sam Loco, Rita Edochie and some other people. That was the first movie I did. I was a princess, a spoilt girl from London and that was how it started before I finally came into Nollywood and registered with AGN.

Where did you school?

I did my secondary school at Kogi State, Okene precisely. My primary school was in Kano because I was born in Kano and I did my polytechnic at Kogi, Lokoja Polytecnic.

What has been the high point of your career?

I’m still getting there. I cannot really say I’ve gotten to the high point yet but I think I’m still on the move and I hope I’ll get there soon by God’s grace. I’ve not really had the opportunity to really showcase my talent. You know how the industry is. The industry is not an easy one where you can just come in and grab a role and say ‘yes this is my role and I have become a star.’ There are many artistes, many stars and lots of talents. No matter how beautiful you think you are, there are lots of people who are more beautiful. If you think you’re sexy, there are lots of other artistes who are sexier. The industry is full of the best of the bests that you cannot easily stand out. Only the grace of God can get you there. I give glory to God Almighty who has given me a director who has been so nice to me. At least I’ve been able to play a lead in a movie which is coming out soon: Men in Bondage and Men in Pain. It’s a comedy movie and I played the lead role in the movie and more are still coming.

How many movies have you done so far?

With the Waka Pass, Waka Come, I think they’re more than 30. I can’t really say because the Waka Pass are even more.

Which are the most popular ones?

Three Generals. Its part two is Stubborn Generals. Regent of Kings is in six parts and there are Prince Apart and Bless the King . Others are Ifunanya, showing onIroko TV now and on cinemas; Dirty Princess, Oga Madam, and many others.

You once said that men go crazy over your figure

Yeah, it’s true. My ass gives me undue attention and even to me, it can be so embarassing sometimes. At times I don’t just feel happy about it. Of course, there are other girls who are shaply, sexy, and beautiful, but you know, this is me and they are them. I don’t know what they are passing through, but I know that I’m passing through hell daily. Even girls get funny about it sometimes.

Girls chase you too?

Not really chasing me but they’re always after me to see whether my ass is real or padded? I’ve worked into a market before and a girl followed me. You know markets are very choked up so she just followed me and tapped my ass just to know. You know what I did to her? I ran after her, I dragged her and I took her hand and I said ‘feel it very well, it is not padded’. She busted out laughing because that was her aim. She wanted to know if it’s padded. I don’t do much. I eat. My problem now is I’m beginning to eat very late and it’s making my tummy big. Like this morning, I woke up, I did some exercises, I did sit-ups but most times, I don’t do it because I feel very lazy. I’m very flexible when it comes to exercise but I find it difficult because of laziness. Sometimes, I might devote time for like a month and sometimes, I will just stop like that but I don’t eat much. I eat more of carbohydrates. I eat fruits and I’m okay.

Can you do a sex scene in a movie?

No I can’t. I can’t do a sex scene. I can kiss in a movie but I can’t go nude. The highest I can go in a movie is my bra on and maybe a pant bum. I can’t even wear a G-string in a movie. I can’t even wear pant in a movie. I can wear a bra but nudity, I can’t do that.

We’ve been hearing of lesbianism in Nollywood. Is it rampant or just rumours?

Lesbianism is everywhere. When you talk of Nollywood, it’s there too at the top and everywhere. So it’s not a new thing. It is everywhere, not only in Nollywood.

What’s your major philosophy of Life?

Life is lovely if you know how to live your life. Put God first in whatever you do. I believe without God nothing good can be achieved. If it is money you think you can use, use it very well but God is ahead of everything in life because this life is just a small place. We see it as very big but it’s a small place and it’s a market and we will all leave one day to return home to God. So, pray to God. Let God lead. Do what you can do. If you’re nice, be nice. If you’re good, be good. My mom would always tell me: ‘Do your best and live the rest for God”. Don’t be too desperate in life. Everything you want would definitely come. But if you’re too desperate about life, you would end up falling into wrong hands. So the best thing is to keep calm. That’s just what I see.

First of all, let me say thank you to my fans. I love you all. Without you there is no me. I know I’ve not gotten to where they’re expecting me to be. But I am getting there. What I would say is please, whatever I do in a movie is not my lifestyle. It’s a job and after the movie, I don’t think I would do that same thing I did in a movie. So don’t judge me by my dressing. Don’t judge me by my role. I like sexy clothes so don’t think because I put on clothes to look good, I want to attract any man. I don’t. Right from when I was small, I loved wearing skimpy things. Why did you choose to be a vegetarian?
I have been a vegetarian for many years now and the reason is not far-fetched. I have the tendency to be overweight, so I’m seriously checking it in order not to lose my figure-eight shape.

Which parts of your body do you think are your selling points? …
Well, I will say my hips and eyeballs. God has blessed me with what African men really like. Even the modern day African man who pretends to like a skinny woman, after getting down with her, he would marry a woman who has ample flesh in the right proportions.

As a learned person, why have you never featured in English-speaking movies?
I’ve not gotten a script from that sector yet. Besides, I have my own films to produce too and ever since I started, I have never had reasons to invite an English actor or actress too, so it is a two-way thing.

How have you been coping, as a single mother with two kids?
It’s one question I don’t like going deep into for personal reasons. I will only say God has been faithful. I’m fine and cool as you can see. I am a happy woman in all ramifications and the envy of other ladies.

Any plan of getting married?
I’m yet to get one and would not like to say much about that.

Has there been any particular role you refused?
Yes, not even one. I’ve rejected many scripts in the past and will continue to reject many other scripts.

Why do you do that?
I reject scripts or roles when they seem sub-standard or not well-baked. Biodun Okeowo would not want to soil her integrity or disappoint her fans.

Did your parents especially, your father being a pastor, object to your chosen career?
Not really, my dad was an actor before he became a Prophet. So, he did not object to it but my mother was afraid because many people told her that I would have to go diabolical to make it in the industry. Also, the fear of losing me, her simple and God-fearing daughter to some worldly things made her object. But later I was able to convince her that all I needed was her prayers. And being a prayer warrior, God answered her prayers and the rest is history.

Would you say your chosen
career was the reason for your failed marriage?
We are pencils in the hand of the creator, he knows and directs our lives. My career has got nothing to do with that.

What lessons did you learn from your previous marriage?
My broken marriage was a place of learning to me. It taught me to be a better person and has opened a hidden part of me. Then I was younger but I have learnt that what will be will be, no matter what.

Would you say he was at fault?
Fault, who am I to apportion blames or Judge? God knows best. I thank God we are both doing well in our respective homes.

Any plans of marrying again?
Presently, I’ll like to remain mute on my marital status but the glaring truth is that I’m not single.

What do you mean by saying you are not single?
It simply means I have a man in my life. But what I am not ready to disclose are details about him. I am not single because I am with a man. Please don’t ask me any further question on this. I am a very happy woman in love with a man in my life.

At this stage in your life, would you consider being a second wife?
I won’t break someone else’s home because I don’t want mine to be broken as well. But then man proposes and God disposes. No one can decide for God. We can only pray fervently for our wishes. But one thing I don’t joke with is my happiness.

What do you have to say about pre-marital sex among our youths?
It is saddening that pre-marital sex has taken over our time. In the past, most of our men would disassociate themselves with girls who have been deflowered outside wedlock. Then a woman’s virginity was her pride but time has changed and human beings have changed. I am not happy about it. Maybe we should blame civilisation or modernisation for this. I pray for God’s intervention in this era.

Yes, I did and I can boldly say that.

What was your first sex experience?
My first experience was full of fear, uncertainty, pain and alas! I loved it at the end.

How do you think your kids feel when they see their mum in sensual roles?
I have been working and thinking on that recently. My kids are growing fast and are very intelligent. For their sake, I am trying not to act dirty or rough, but at the same time I have to interpret my roles very well, especially if it is a movie I producing. I also censor the movies they watch, be it mine or other films.
Acting is make-believe and there’s this general belief that saddens my heart, and that is the belief that Nollywood does not deliver sexual roles well enough in graphic details.
Our fans often forget that we are Africans, we have a culture that needs to be inculcated into our movies and that is what Biodun Okeowo is working on.

Do you agree that female actresses are making it more than their male counterparts?
I don’t agree. It depends on how hardworking each individual is in the industry. But if you say female artistes are more favoured than the male artistes then I’ll say you are right.

How would you rate Nollywood in comparison with other film industries around the world?
I’ve not really traveled far and wide to know much about other film industries but I know we’ve improved greatly.

What do you want to be known for?
I want to be known for my humility and my down-to-earth nature.

Which fashion item would you say is indispensible to you?
Earrings.

What is your favorite colour?
Pink and lemon green. I love these colours to a fault.

Have you ever regretted being part of any movie?
Yes, years back when I was still a novice in the industry. I did some wishy-washy jobs because I grabbed every job that came my way. Unfortunately for me those jobs didn’t come out until I have already become an established actress in the business.
Some of these films were so bad that most of my fans thought I didn’t measure up to standard. I nearly lost many of them but they didn’t know I did those films when I was still green in the industry. But I quickly retraced my steps and in the process, I offended some producers.

How do you relate with male fans?
Well, as a public figure, I try as much as possible to be calm and respectful but some men can be annoying.

Annoying? How?
Some can go as far as taking a bet on you, staking a bet that they could get you or do things to you. And when they must have taken this bet they can go to any length to get down with you, all in the bid to win a bet or prove to their friends they could get you. But when you are wise and didn’t fall for their money or material things, you become their enemy. They label you all sorts of names and they would do everything in their power to run you down. This could be very annoying and could make one to get rude sometimes.

Considering some roles you play, have your children ever been embarrassed?
No, all I’ve always heard from my kids are nice comments. Most times they compliment my beauty on screen and openly tell me they love my movies. I am very grateful to God for giving me those kids. They are my strength.

What is the worst thing ever written about you?
I guess that was when one unpopular magazine wrote that I was owing Iyabo Ojo some money when I never owed her any money. I hardly buy things on credit instead I would rather deposit some money and wait until the payment is made. So, the story was rather amusing to me because that is something I don’t do. But honestly, false and scandalous stories don’t bother me because when I decided to pick this job I knew such things would be writen about me. Everyday, something, true or false must be writen about a known person. And over time I have grown to love being talked about.

The secret is to read and flip aside the unwholesome ones and carry on with your normal life. And if it is too detrimental to your career then you can seek redress in the court of law.

How many movies have you produced, and which do you consider the best?
I have done eight movies to date. Though my best is still to come but if I have to pick one very close to my heart, it would be my latest film, Ore.

Our society does not support single motherhood. How do you cope with the stigma of being a single mother?
(Smiles) I only know my status. I only know who I am. (smiles) for Biodun, she’s the happiest woman on earth. I am comfortable and happy in all ways. No stigma for me.

What is new about Biodun Okeowo?
My fans should watch out for “Instagram Babe” to be marketed by Corporate pictures. I love my fans and my God will continue to bless them.

Anita Joseph is a talented Nollywood actress known mostly for her controversial nature. The actress has over the years grown a thick skin to criticisms and wants people to know that she’s in the movie industry to be an actress in the true sense of the word.

She has the ability excel in any role she is assigned and she has been a good source of entertainment for many fans.

In this encounter with Showtime celebrity Anita opens up on her music and movie career viv-a-vis other issues:

What have you been up to?

Work work work… Movies and music but I’m still recording

How many movies have you done so far?

The one that just came out is Akpabio, the Calabar Boy. Then, there’s Hips Don’t Lie, Festival of Village Girls, Wannabe Girls, Who runs the Village, Twins Blood, and lots of others. I can’t really count.
What is your style of music?

I do Hip-hop, I do slow songs, blues, I do every kind of music

Which songs have you released this year?

I’ve done Long Time and Go Gaga

Have you featured any artiste in your songs?

In ‘Nyem Something’ I featured Flavour. The video came out two years ago

You and Afrocandy were recently seen together, are you guys doing a movie?

Yes, we are. We’ve not done the job yet. She just did an audition and I was invited over to help in the casting. We did an audition at Excellence Hotel so I went there to help her cast and I’m part of the movie too

Is it a porn movie?

God forbid. It’s an African movie. Afrocandy does other movies too. The one she’s going to do soon is an epic movie like a village kind of movie. Then the other one is another kind of movie, we call it Glamour.

Glamour is the one you have many rich people but the epic is the village one. It’s not a porn movie, don’t mind what people are saying. I assure you it is not porn. Anita cannot do porn. You know why I can’t do porn? Because the money will finish but the movie won’t go.

It’s not something I would like to do. Everybody in life has what he or she wants to do. I don’t care what anybody does. Some people say you’re friends with Afrocandy and all that, So What?

Do you believe Nigerians are hypocritical about sex?

Oh yes they are, some of them do worse things behind closed doors. So don’t judge me. I do what I want to do but I can’t do porn. Anita is crazy, Anita is this, Anita is that, but I can’t do porn. There are some kinds of things I can’t do. If I’m doing business with Afrocandy, it’s movie business not porn and it’s my business. Nobody has the right to tell me I shouldn’t do it because she’s this, she’s that. That’s their business.

Can you do sex in a movie?
No, I can’t

Not even kissing?

That’s a normal thing. There’s a way we do kissing in the movie industry, we don’t really do the real kissing but there’s a way we do it. It’s acting.

There was a movie I saw you,where Nkem Owoh was touching your boobs, what movie was that?

That movie was The Gamblers. In the script, they said he was supposed to touch my breasts; we have to make it real so I gave him my breast to touch and that thing blew people’s minds. That was the whole idea, he touched it for real.

Have you done any other stuff like that?

I do lots of stuffs like that. It doesn’t matter; it’s the kind of job I do, so it depends. It depends on what the script says, sometimes you just have to pretend to be there. Its pretense, Acting is all about pretense.

Which actor do you have chemistry working with?

I have chemistry working with everybody but there are some people you work better with, lots of them. If I start mentioning the names, you won’t leave here

What do you consider the sexiest part of your body?

Everywhere is sexy because everybody has what trips him or her. Some like the boobs, some like the back, some like my legs, I’ve seen somebody that loves my palm. My fingers are very sexy

You say you love tattoos, how many tattoos do you have?

I used to love tattoos. But I don’t do tattoos anymore and I’m trying to remove them. I’m not a tattoo freak anymore; I’ve grown out of that. In fact the tattoos on my body are mistakes. I advise people not to do tattoos. Tattoos are addictive. If you do one you want to do another, at the end of the day you’ll start regretting them. I don’t love my tattoos anymore. I wish I can clean them out.

Where is the most hidden place you’ve done a tattoo?

No hidden place, the most hidden one is the one on my waist and on my boobs

What do you find attractive in a man?

I love men that are simple. I don’t like men that are too loud, I love it simple

When did you get into music?

I started music professionally four years back but I’ve not released an album yet. I’ve not really been serious with my music because the movies took over but I’ve released two videos, Time No Dey and Nyem something

Are you currently in a relationship?

I’m single and not searching

Have you ever done a movie outside Nigeria?
Yes, I have, in South Africa. I did the movie last year but it’s not out yet

How do you handle your male admirers?

They’re not easy to handle but I handle them well enough. In this kind of job, you have to be strong and bold because if you’re not, they’ll just mess you up. So, I handle them perfectly. I try not to be insulting in as much as some of them are very unbearable. Those that are unbearable, you just try and be subtle and manage them with a good smile.

What of your critics?

I love my critics because if they don’t criticise me, I won’t get better

Do you take to their advice?

I do listen but some of them don’t make sense. Some of them are beef, maybe it’s somebody that doesn’t like you, you didn’t do anything to the person but the person doesn’t just like you. They did it to Jesus Christ.

He didn’t do anything to them but some people hated him, so it happens.

Sometimes when you read some things you know that it’s just beef. You might not know the person but the person is beefing you. I don’t care about what they say. What I care about is I take from the ones that are good, I try to amend what is not right but the ones that I know that I’m doing right, I don’t bother

What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done when he saw you?

Hitting my bum. Someone has seen me in Shoprite before, hit my bum and ran away. There was nothing I could do. There was a movie I did Open and Close. I was a nymphomaniac in that movie, I had sex with everybody around me because it was the story. The guy said that thing you did in Open and Close, can you just do it to me? He started whining in Shoprite, mimicking everything I did in the movie, the way I was doing. I just turned to leave and the next thing he did was to tap my ass. I wanted to pursue him but I wore heels so I couldn’t pursue him.

If it were before, I would have chased him all the way. Another day someone called me and started moaning ‘Anita you’re killing me, Anita whine for me’, I said hello, he said ‘Oh please, it’s me please you don’t understand’. It was one of my pictures he saw. He uses my pictures to work on himself and he told me. Mostly he uses private numbers to call me so I wouldn’t be able to call back. That ‘s why I sometimes don’t pick private numbers.

What is the craziest thing you have done to a fan ?

There was this crazy guy that got my number from somewhere. This guy sends me message everyday of my life, everyday. Telling me how he loves me and how he wants to marry me, till date. At a point I had to call him and invited him over. I mean this guy has been sending me messages for more than two years straight, everyday.

My sisters, everybody in my house knows about it. One day I decided to invite him over but when I came out to receive him, he was nowhere to be found. He later called that he could not face me.

What is the worst scandal of your life?

There was a time I was in South Africa, they wrote something about me that an Alhaji and I were getting married in America. It wasn’t true, I was in South Africa and they said I was in America. Then I was working in South Africa. They said that I went to his office and his wife saw me in the office and embarrassed me. They said me and the wife got into a fight, that people had to come to separate us. I had a relationship and I was very heartbroken. I’ve had lots of them like that. Some people actually believed that story but there was a mix up. That story shattered me at the time.

Why did you refuse a marriage proposal from your boyfriend

A man cannot just come out and tell me to stop what I’m doing because he wants to marry me. I’m not desperate for marriage. Marriage will come when it will come. My man will come when it’s the right time for him to appear. When my husband comes, he won’t tell me to stop what I’m doing. My husband would be my fan and love what I’m doing, my husband would encourage me.

Your boyfriend was telling you to leave acting for him?

Yes, and become a complete housewife. I’m an Anambra girl, we don’t do like that. We’re hardworking women. That’s the kind of blood I’m born with; I can’t just leave what I’m doing. Marriage is not a do or die affair

What about dating Senators, Governors and Politicians, is it true or false?

I have friends all over. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re dating the person but you know how the world is, if they see you with someone or you’re friends with someone, they conclude you’re dating the person.

What more should people expect from you?

Lots of new things, it would be a surprise package.

Tributes galore as body of Dora Akunyili arrives Anambra

Awka — IT was eulogies galore, yesterday, at the Women Development Centre, Awka, as people and government of Anambra State received the body of the late former Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili

This came as Chief Fredrick Dike, an acclaimed weather controller from Ifiteani village, Agulu, and a kinsman of Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband to late Dora Akunyili, vowed to use his mystical powers to disrupt the burial ceremony today
Among those that graced the ceremony included the former head of state, General Yakubu Gown and his wife, wife of the former president, Mrs. Bola Obasanjo, Governor Willie Obiano and members of his cabinet and the national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh.

In his tribute, General Gowon described Dora as a great gift to Nigeria, as she devoted herself to the service of her fatherland in all the positions she found herself.
Also speaking, Governor Willie Obiano said Akunyili used her God–given talent to work for her country, explaining that in view of what she stood for Anambra, he had concluded plans to make her an ambassador plenipotentiary for the state before her demise.

To the national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, Dora’s deeds spoke for her, adding that her demise was a great loss to the country.
He said that but for the 180 days constitutional provision that ended the election tribunal, Dora could have been in the Senate because she won that election.

Colossus
In an emotion –laden voice, the wife of Governor Obiano, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano described her as a colossus among men.
Amidst intermittent sobs, Mrs. Obiano said: “In public service, Dora endeared herself to the people and gave hope to the hopeless.

“Even in her traumatic moment, she radiated hope. I will never forget her motherly advice and I am eloquently grateful for making herself a shining example. She was a woman who never wanted to shine alone as she always wanted stars around her.
“Professor Akunyili had promised to package me the way Anambra people will be proud of and while she lived, she encouraged me and that is what is guiding me now.”

Also speaking, Mrs. Bola Obasanjo went down memory lane to describe how she endeared herself to former President Obasanjo through her good deeds.
She said: “Dora was a role model and a legend who cannot be forgotten easily. She was an open–minded woman who staked her neck to save many lives. We remember that a bullet fired at her removed her head tie, but did not remove her head. If the bullet had removed her head, the nation would have lost all that she did for Nigerians.

“When people were putting chalk into capsules as drugs, Dora stepped in as the Director General of NAFDAC and stopped all that.”
Dora’s colleague at the National Conference, Mrs. Josephine Anenih said when people saw her at the conference, many of them started crying. But Dora told them not to cry for her as she was prepared to serve her country in that confab.

She said that even as frail as Dora looked, her voice was very strong and she made all the Igbo delegates proud.
According to her, the people Dora fought against at NAFDAC are murderers in the name of drug business.
Akunyili will be buried today at her hometown, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government area of Anambra State.

Meanwhile, Chief Fredrick Dike, an acclaimed weather controller from Ifiteani village, Agulu, Anambra State and a kinsman of Dr. Chike Akunyili, the husband of late Dora Akunyili, yesterday, vowed to use his mystical powers to disrupt the burial ceremony today.

Dike explained in an interview that Dora’s husband and other stakeholders, including former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, his Special Adviser on Parks and Markets, Chief Sylvester Nwaobulor, among others, went behind him to meet other rain makers in the town and its environs without recognising him as number one rain maker in Anambra State.

He boasted: “Dora herself is also my wife and we are all sharing in the pain of her death, but since they sidelined me in controlling the weather, they will see rainfall tomorrow (That is today) and throughout the week unless they do the needful.
“Let it also be on record that I am not insisting on loosening the heaven tomorrow because I was not consulted, but because they went to see other rain makers with lots of gift items to control the weather which they know I can do without charging anything. We shall test powers tomorrow.”

The traditional medicine practitioner also alleged that some of his kinsmen were hitherto withholding a national award given him by President Goodluck Jonathan, warning that those in custody of the award to make it available to him before it would be too late.
“I was told that Mr. President gave me an award, but some people are still with it and I want to use this opportunity to let Mr. President know that I’m yet to get the award,” he said

Don’t blame me if my clothes do not cover my boobs - Yvonne Jegede

Yvonne Jegede, one of the girls that featured in Tuface Idibia’s “African Queen” video made a stunning comeback to acting after several years of being away from the industry.

Since her return two years, she has been inundated with movie scripts that have kept her very busy. In this interview, she recounts the story of her journey into Nollywood and her personal life.

Since you came back to acting after years of being away, how many films have you featured in so far?

You know I have been away for five years. I returned to the country in 2012, after my studies abroad. From 2012 till date, I have featured in about eight to ten films.

I travelled to America for further studies immediately after featuring in 2face’s “African Queen” video. I studied International Relations in a University in Cyprus.

Why didn’t you study Theater Arts?

A lot of people have asked this question. But I think I just wanted to study something outside of what I am used to, so that, I can broaden my mind.

Your name has become a household name in Nigeria. What would you say is the secret?

I cannot tell you what the secret is. But I am just doing what I know how to do best. I leave the rest to God. He has been the one who has lifted me up and I am very grateful to Him.

Aside, acting, what else do you think you can do better?

I am solely into acting for now, trying to reach a level where I can now live and divert into so many other things.

At the moment, I am trying to stablise myself in the industry having been away for a long time. I want to get used to the new Nollywood that is quite different from the one I left behind several years ago.

You said, new Nollywood? What’s new about the industry?

Before I left the country for America, there were certain set of practitioners in the industry. But today, the story has change. We now have new faces, who have genuine love for the industry.

People who have so much talents that they want to explore. It is very interesting to have such people in the industry. It more challenging now because, everybody is bringing something new in the industry. The stories are changing and they are becoming more diversified.

So, how do you intend to find your place again in the industry?

The people are not my business. I am just here to work. I just want to put heads together with whoever I come across. Give me what you have, and I bring what I have on the table.

What can you not do without as a very pretty girl?

My eye pack because I love my eyes. I always like to make my lips look good. For the accessories, I can not do without my golden wrist watch. I wear it anywhere I go every day because it gives me good luck. I like big things and that’s why I have to get a big wrist watch.

What does love mean to you?

I am a lover of love. I love to love. I love to be emotional.Love is something that I appreciate a lot. Trust me, I am a good lover. I love my fans, my folks, I love the people that matters to me. I love to have people around me.

What is an ideal man to you?

I don’t even know what it is any more. But I think people at different ages have different perspection in respect of what an ideal man is. He should be more intelligent than myself.

I need somebody I can learn from him. He should also be able to take care of himself. That’s an ideal man for me. He should not be ugly.

Which part of you body do you think is your selling point?

I think it is my brain. Talking about the physical things that attracts men to me, it depends. Some people say, it’s my eyes, others prefer my lips and my boobs. So, I do not know. When I love into the mirror, I love everything about myself.

How was your growing up like?

While growing up, I wanted to be a beauty queen. I just like getting attention. I was the first child. For the first five years of my life, I have the whole attention in the world. I am so used to people coming around me. As a child, I got everything I needed.

Tell us about your evolution into Nollywood?

As a child, I never dreamed of going into acting. I loved modeling, and how paparazzis run after models. I never had acting in mind until I met Charles Novia.

When I saw him somewhere in Surulere, I was like; is this Charles Novia! And he turned around and looked at me and said, do I know you? I replied him, saying I saw you on the television yesterday .

He quickly asked me if I wanted to become an actress? I replied in the affirmative. He later gave me his call card and invited me for an audition the following day.

That was it. While I was still working on the set with Charles Novia, Uzodimma saw me and insisted taht he would feature me in his music video. The next day, I featured in the African queen video. That was how I started my acting career.

Who are the actresses you look up to?

I love Genevieve Nnaji. I am also a fan of Omoni Oboli, and many others.

Recently you featured in the music video of Sound Sutan. Do you have passion for dancing?

Sound Sultan is a big brother. He called me and said, I am shooting my music video. Can you come around and give me your support. When I got there, I ended up featuring in the video. This is the third time, I would be featuring in a music video. I featured in African Queen video, Ego and now, Sound Sutan’s video.

Does that mean you are a dancer?

I am not a dancer. I am not a video vixien. I can go and sit down and have a class cup and champagne. That is different from dancing. I am not a dancer.

What will you say fame has robbed you of?

The good and the bad. Good, in the sense that I can walk into anywhere and get favour ,especially in the banking hall. Sometimes, I would be standing in the quene and somebody would walk up to me and asked me how much do you want?

And the person would help me to make it faster. But the ugly thing is that, you will not live your life the way you would want to.

You attacked Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson on your twitter handle last year. What triggered off the attack?

I am not going to comment on it. Everybody took side with Yvonne Nelson, including my friends. So, I am not going to say anything about it. The whole world was against me. I read the negative reactions of Nigerians online. I was not expecting anything less. Even my own friends who never had any encounter with Yvonne Nelson took side with her.

You have a penchant for revealing some part of your body, may be your boobs. What happened today?

Well, it depends on the clothes. I have big boobs, so, if the clothes are not big enough to cover my boobs you would not blame me for that. I am not the person who made my clothes . I just put the clothes on.

You have passion for revealing some part of your body?

It depends on my mood. If I want to expose my back, I will do that. It goes with my mood.

Is it true that you dated 2face?

I didn’t date 2face. I only featured in his “African Queen” video. I have never kissed him before.

Are you not planning to get married?

When the time comes, I will get married. I have never given it a thought.

It’s not about thinking, it is about the right person coming my way. Many ladies have been thinking about settling down for years now, but Mr. right has not come their way.

You are saying that Mr. right has not come your way?

Let’s take it like that. I don’t even have any relationship right now.

Why is it that most actresses do not want to get married?

How do you mean? Do you think that a lady would decide to remain single. As a woman, she still needs a man. If you do not have a man in your life, it is so bad. She can never be a happy woman.

Among the actors in the industry, who do you have crush on ?

Someone asked me this question recently. But, even if I have anybody in mind, do you think I would disclose the person to you. It is a secret that I keep to myself. I am not going to elaborate on that.

What is your take on the same-sex law in Nigeria?

The answer to the gay law is that, we got some group of people. If you support it, you will have some people that will support you.

But if you are against it, you will also, have some group of people who will also support you. So, I am sitting on the fence. I do not want to be on anybody’s bad record. But sincerely speaking, I think for the federal government to pass the bill into law, it must be a very serious matter.

Can you play the role of a lesbian in a movie?

I can play the role but depending on the script. If the script is conveying a moral lesson, yes, I can do it.

So, it has to do with what message you are conveying to the people. Secondly, notwithstanding, as an actress, I should be able to play any role. But, I will gladly play the role as long as I’m not going to kiss a fellow girl on set.

What of acting nude?

No, I cannot for no reason. I have people I am answerable to.

Have you been sexually harassed before now?

Sexual harassment in the industry have to do with what you want. If you want to be sexually harassed, you will be. I am saying that because, even when I am walking on the road, or in the banking hall, I usually get passes.

But it depends on what you want. I do not think every director would want to sleep with every girl he comes across. Maybe, I am wrong but, I don’t think it is possible. I have had the experience where a produced would refused to feature me in his movie because I did not sleep with him. They might make their advances to me.

Having featured in many movies, which of them would you say challenged you most?

The more challenging movie I have done since my return is James Town by Ifeanyi Onyeabor.

In the movie, I played a role that I have never done before. Most of roles have always been someone who is going to cry, or who has been abandoned and so on.

But in the movie, I played the role of a drug seller. I sold all sorts of drugs. I was meant to move about with a guitar all the time. In this guitar, I concealed all the drugs that I was selling. But when nemesis caught up with me, I got bruised. I was busy hurting myself and I enjoyed every bit of the movie.

Would you say that the role interpreted your real person?

My real person is funny and loving. I have got a very good sense of humor that my friends can’t even contend with, when I start making them laugh. But, the roles I have gotten have nothing to do with my real self. All the roles I have played, none have really shown my real self.

Impeachment: I will return to my seat – Nyako

ABUJA — Forty days after being removed from office, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd) has expressed hope that he will return to his post since his traducers did not follow the laid down procedure in ousting him.

Nyako, who has already filed an appeal at the Appeal Court against his impeachment, said there were justifiable reasons to prove that he was unjustly sent packing from his office by his opponents, who breached all the rules all in their desperate bid to get him out.

Nyako in a statement made available to Vanguard in Abuja yesterday, by his media adviser, Mr. Sajoh Ahmed, said he was confident that the court would return him to office since the process leading to his forceful and undemocratic sack was illegal.

The former governor said he was optimistic the Nigerian judiciary, which is blessed with men of integrity and honour, would not find it difficult to restore him to his position given the gamut of evidence that his opponents violated all the provisions of the law in edging him out for political reasons.

He said he was confident that since the judiciary had in the past upturned the removal of governors Joshua Dariye of Plateau, Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo and Peter Obi of Anambra, it would not be difficult for him to be restored since he was forced out of office by desperate elements.

While remaining upbeat about his return to office, Nyako urged his supporters in the state to embrace the current reality and prepare for the October 15 by-election, which he believes would be a repeat of the case in Anambra State when Andy Uba assumed office after winning an election, only to vacate office after 16 days when the courts returned Peter Obi.

I can’t support PDP

Nyako also vowed to remain within the APC and support only APC candidates in all elections at all levels and at all times.

He said his faith in the APC was bolstered by the fact that the party has proved to be truly democratic and progressive by the manner it has handed over its nomination process to the people at the grassroots as opposed to those who hand over the process to some unknown political godfathers in Abuja or the state capitals.

The former governor denied claims that he was supporting a certain PDP governorship aspirant for the forthcoming by-election, saying that his support remains with the APC at all times.

He said: “Anyone who supports a PDP candidate in the state has done so in exercise of his or her democratic rights as citizens but not as a result of a directive from Admiral Nyako or in support of his political position.
“This clarification is necessary in order to debunk the rumour being peddled by some mischief makers in Adamawa State.”

Van Gaal hard to please – Klose

Miroslav Klose claims the years he spent playing under new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal were the hardest of his career.

Klose, Germany’s all-time leading goalscorer with 71 goals, left Bayern Munich in 2011 after struggling to satisfy the Dutchman. The 36-year-old played 60 games while Van Gaal was in charge of Bayern, but scored only 12 goals.

“It was a tough time, particularly working with Van Gaal,” Klose told Germany’s Die Zeit newspaper.

“I didn’t feel free. It was very difficult for me to fulfil his expectations. He was asking me to make runs I just couldn’t see. I didn’t feel free. It was very difficult for me to fulfil his expectations. He was asking me to make runs I just couldn’t see.”

“I gave it all I could, but sometimes it just wasn’t enough.”

Had it not been for the backing of the fans and the faith shown in him by Germany coach Joachim Low, Klose says he may not have emerged from the two years he spent under Van Gaal the way he did.

Eto’o thanks Mourinho

Samuel Eto’o has rubbished talk of a rift with Jose Mourinho as he prepares for the possibility of an Everton debut against his old boss, Sky Sports reports.

Eto’o was part of Mourinho’s Champions League-winning side at Inter Milan and came to England a year ago to rejoin the Portuguese at Chelsea.

But the pair’s relationship was questioned when Mourinho was caught on camera joking about Eto’o’s age, and the 33-year-old left Stamford Bridge in the summer before joining Everton this week.

Samuel Eto’o gave his first press conference on Wednesday as an Everton player, and explained why he chose to join the club.

Chelsea visit Goodison Park on Saturday evening and speaking at his official unveiling as an Everton player Eto’o said, “I am not concerned about that aspect of it, that it is against my ex-team.

“The important thing is to integrate myself into my team-mates’ way of working and get myself ready during the training and preparation, potentially, for that match.

“The only thing I have to say vis-a-vis Jose Mourinho is to thank him. It is down to Jose Mourinho that I had the opportunity to be accepted and integrated into the Premier League, to play some great matches. That is the end of the discussion.”

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has identified the social media as a veritable tool for the propagation of the gospel.

Adeboye stated this just as he hit the two million followers’ mark on Facebook.

Offering words of prayers and appreciation to his Facebook fans, the RCCG spiritual leader explained that social media platforms had come handy for his evangelisation.

Adeboye, who towers higher than President Goodluck Jonathan in terms of social media following, is also the most visible Nigerian clergyman online.

In February, a creative online intelligence firm, Alder Consulting, in a report ranked Adeboye as the cleric that makes the most prolific use of social media in the country.

“I would like to thank you all for making me hit the two million followers on Facebook. May the Lord bless you and speedily answer all your prayers in Jesus name. Let us continue to spread the good news,” a message penned by Adeboye on Facebook read.

To register his appreciation, Adeboye posted a new photograph on Facebook, with a “Thank You” inscription on it.

Apart from Facebook, Adeboye, who is also active on Twitter, YouTube and Google+, as of Wednesday boasted a combined online following of 2,386,201.

Writing on his Twitter page, the septuagenarian confessed that God had been very faithful to him in all his dealings.

“Because Jesus was before me, He was there when my life was being planned. He is the one that knows and can change my destiny. No man can. I challenge you to take a critical look at your life. Are you making progress or going about in circles?

“If God is with us, we can fight anyone and win but if God is against us, we are finished. May the covenant-keeping God help me remain faithful to you as you have remained faithful to me,” he added.

Adeboye’s wife, Mrs. Folu Adeboye, has also taken a cue from her husband by leveraging on various social networking sites to propagate the gospel. Folu blogs at faadeboye.com and she has digital presence on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

She described herself as a “virtuous woman, strong pillar and efficient planner” who complements the efforts of her husband in Christendom.

“She is endowed with immense initiative, and great capacity for hard work. Her attributes have helped the G.O (Adeboye) obey God’s command to be great.

“Mummy G.O. has not only been mother to her biological children and grandchildren, she has also been mother to the RCCG spiritual children and more importantly has been shouldering numerous responsibilities on behalf of the Redeemed Christian Church of God mission,” her resume posted on the blog added.

Folu advised parents not to be a bad example to their children, saying, “As a parent, be careful what you do now. If it is evil, it will not only affect you but your future and the ones coming after you.”

Another leading religious leader leveraging on the new media is the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor Temitope Joshua.

Just as thousands of worshippers throng the popular televangelist’s Lagos-based church; his social media pages are also a beehive of activities as they receive hundreds of visitors on a regular basis.

Apart from having presence on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, TB Joshua is one of the few clergymen in the country who make use of Pinterest.

Pinterest is a social network that allows users to upload, save, sort, and manage images—known as pins—and other media content, such as videos and images through collections known as pinboards.

Besides, Alder Consulting also ranked the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Rev. Sam Adeyemi, in a 2013 report, as a prolific digital media enthusiast.

Apart from regular ministrations via his social media pages, Adeyemi gives tips to young adults about ways of succeeding in their various careers.

According to him, the ideas he shares via his online pages are to enable his followers to achieve “extraordinary results” with a change of character and proven leadership skills in their various places of employment.

Adeyemi’s wife, Nike, an architect, has also followed the footsteps of her husband, focusing on social media engagement for women’s rights activism.

Nike has refused to forget about the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the over 200 Chibok girls, as she urged the authorities to do more to ensure their rescue.

“Whatever part of the world you (Chibok girls) are located today, may you see the daylight. May light shine unto you and all who suffer.

“To all those who suffer unjustly for their faith, race, tribe, gender, size, and even for no reason, may peace and comfort of the Lord be on you,” she wrote on Twitter.

Uzo Aduba wins ‘Outstanding Guest Actress’ at 2014 Emmys

Nigerian-born American artiste, Uzo Aduba, has won the `Outstanding Guest Actress’ for the comedy entitled: `Orange is the New Black’ in the Emmy Award for 2014

An Emmy Award, or simply Emmy, is awarded in recognition of excellence in various sectors of the American television industry.

The sectors are: Academy Award (for film); Tony Award (for theatre); and Grammy Award (for music).

Aduba won the award a week before the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, which took place on Aug. 25 at the Nokia Los Angeles Theatre in California.

Aduba played the character Suzanne Warren in the film.

Aduba, who was raised in Medfield, Massachusetts, attended Medfield High School and the University of Boston, where she studied classical voice.

According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Aduba is listed number seven on its directory of Nigerian Americans.

Mutiny: Four military officers quizzed

Strong indications emerged on Wednesday that the military high command had started taking decisive steps against security personnel involved in acts inimical to the military tradition.

It was gathered on Wednesday that four army officers were arrested for allegedly encouraging some soldiers, who disobeyed a directive on posting to Bama, one of the areas where Nigerian troops are fighting Boko Haram insurgents.

Mutiny is defined as a situation, in which a group of people such as sailors or soldiers refuse to obey orders and try to take control away from their superiors.

The posting was said to have affected mainly the 21 Armoured Brigade Garrison, Maiduguri in Borno State whose men were said to be on standby for redeployment to Bama.

It was learnt on Wednesday that the posting did not go down well with the men of the unit, who were of the view that the garrison should have been a rear party (support unit) rather than being posted to the area of operation.

Investigations further revealed that the soldiers felt that they were being moved out for the men of the division to take over Maiduguri metropolis.

The soldiers in the units were also said to have complained that they were involved in three operations such as the multinational Joint Task Force, the Joint Task Force in Damaturu, Yobe State and the task force in Mubi, Adamawa State. They believed that they should have been addressed collectively before any such deployment.

A source, who confided in one of our correspondents, said the military authorities became alarmed when some of the soldiers decided not to honour the posting. This made the military high command to order the arrest of four of the officers of the formation.

It was learnt the commanders of the 21 Armoured Brigade Garrison in Maiduguri, comprising a Lieutenant Colonel , a Captain and two lieutenants, were arrested two weeks ago .

However, after a thorough process of investigation, the military authorities released the four officers after finding them not guilty of the suspicion that they had a hand in the reluctance of the troops to leave Maiduguri for Bama.

It was gathered that the Lieutenant Colonel had been posted to another unit while the other three officers had been deployed to Bama.

Investigations further revealed that the military leadership had arrested several soldiers, who dropped their guns to desert from the Army.

Although, the source did not give a figure, the soldiers were said to have been moved to Abuja to face interrogation.

The source said the arrested soldiers came from different battalions.

It was, however, gathered that the military authorities were also investigating some soldiers of 195 Batalion, Agenebode, Edo State over the attack on Danboa

The Agenebode battalion which is in charge of Danboa is said to be affected by the issue of desertion in the Army.

A security source said that the military authorities were serious about taking decisive steps against misdemeanours in the ongoing efforts to prevent the troops from being discouraged by deserters.

The source stated that the military leadership was determined to ensure that disobedience and cowardice were not condoned because of their grave implications on the success of the counter-terrorist operation.

One of our correspondents made repeated efforts to speak with the Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade, without success.

As of 8.37pm on Wednesday, he had not responded to an SMS sent to him.

Cameroonian troops kill 27 B’Haram insurgents

Cameroonian soldiers have killed 27 members of the Islamist group, Boko Haram, near a border town with Nigeria.

Reuters quoted Cameroon’s state radio on Wednesday, saying the insurgents crossed the border into Cameroon earlier this week, after attacking a military base and police station in Gamboru Ngala in Borno State.

“Cameroon soldiers have killed 27 Boko Haram elements during an attack in a locality near Fotokol in the far-north,” the state radio, CRTV said,.

It added that the deaths occurred on Monday and Tuesday. There was no word on any Cameroonian casualties.

A Cameroonian soldier in the region said the militants had been pushed back into Nigeria, with calm returning to the area on Wednesday.

In recent weeks, Boko Haram, which is seeking to carve out a de facto Islamic state in northern Nigeria, has stepped up attacks in Cameroon, leading the central African country to increase deployments along its border with Nigeria..

President Paul Biya dismissed two senior army officers last month following attacks in which at least seven people were killed and the wife of the vice prime minister was kidnapped

Insurgents attempt to blow Nigeria-Cameroon bridge

Meanwhile, the insurgents have attempted blowing up a bridge on the Nigerian border with Cameroon after overrunning a town and sending residents as well as soldiers fleeing.

A Cameroonian police officer stationed in Fotokol told the Agence France Presse that the militants tried on Tuesday to destroy the bridge, which leads to Gamboru Ngala in Borno State.

Three children were reportedly injured by flying shrapnel when explosives were detonated, possibly by firing from the Cameroonian side of the border on Monday.

Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband of the late Dora Akunyili, has described his wife, as an accomplished Nigerian whose good deeds speak for her.

In explaining the preparation for his wife’s burial, Akunyili stated that people were calling in from across the world to identify with the deceased, owing to what she did for Nigeria and humanity. In this interview, he talked about his wife and others.

We want to know how far you have gone with the arrangements for the burial of your wife, Prof. Dora Akunyili?

We have gone far with the arrangement because Dora, you know, was a very thorough person, very painstaking person and we have arranged sitting positions; you can see even the state government is concerned, even the Federal Government; they are concerned. Many Nigerians, many people, keep phoning in, even from America, everywhere and it is very interesting to know that good name is really better than riches.

Dora has died but you can see her name is flying very high because of what she did for Nigeria, the immensity of her love for the country is very touching. And when I look back to see that there was a time she was going to America and they saw she had a diplomatic passport and they said, ‘Madam, you have a green card and the same time a diplomatic passport, you must give up one; immediately, she didn’t waste time, she dropped her American Green card for Nigerian Diplomatic Passport and she had no qualms about that. She said she wouldn’t trade in Nigeria for anything and that was how she gave up her green card. So, I’ve now seen, that love for her country people are concerned. Many people are coming, wanting to know what they would do, you can see the chairman of the local government, town union; our former governor has been very active; the present governor has been very active, their wives, everybody, members of the House, everybody is involved; they want to know what to do. Even from Aso Rock, our dear lovely president, Goodluck Jonathan, and everybody is showing immense concern. Also, different governors, Rochas Okorocha, other governors, everybody is concerned, wanting to make sure Dora is given a very befitting burial.

What were her last outings like and developments after her demise?

I thank her. I thank her for what she did for Nigeria, her love for this country, very immense, very great. I thank God that I followed her to the Confab because many people dissuaded her from going but Dora said ‘‘Daddy, anything that concerns Nigeria burns in me. My heart burns with anything Nigeria, that I will go to the Confab.’’ Thank God, at the Confab, you saw the speech she made; it resonated at the four walls of the Confab and there was a very big ovation after she spoke. See what she said: ‘‘I leave you with this Greek proverb: ‘A country is great when its old men plant trees, which shade they know they will never enjoy.’”

Telling Nigerians that we must care for our future generation, we must care for our youths, we must think about them, we must plant trees that will shade them; we must make a better environment for them, Dora is just simply awesome. Since she died, every arrangement has been smooth-sailing. If I want to see somebody in my mind, the next moment, I will see that person and there have been many instances of that. How the thing happens, I do not know. Like, I came into my house and I said oh, I will paint this place because it is dirty but how do I see my painter, Mr. Ugwu? I haven’t seen him for a long time. Do you know, two people came in and one of them was Mr. Ugwu. How do you explain it?

Our lovely Bishop Hillary Okeke will come to say the evening mass; that’s the wake keep mass here. I said okay, I don’t have a table, I need to construct a very good table but where do I see Patrick Obiora, a very good cabinet maker, I haven’t seen him for years, he may be somewhere in Kaduna. I was just pondering about this and my phone rang, I picked it and it was Patrick Obiorah that was calling. The other time I came in, I didn’t have any money. I told my son, look, I need some Naira so that I can go back to Enugu. He said never mind. While I was saying that, my phone rang; it was this lovely lady, Iyom Josephine Anenih. She asked: ‘Chike, where are you? I said I was in Abuja. She said: ‘Look, I have some money that belongs to Dora, do I come and drop it with you?’

There have been many instances like that since she died, whoever has the explanation to these things, let the person come and tell me. All I know is that her spirit is happy with everything going on, in everything we are doing… If I want to see a particular Bishop, the next moment, that Bishop will call. Whenever I go to the Anglican Church, there is a song I normally hear, nani olu anyi luru ka ageji na elota anyi, meaning that we will be remembered for the work we did; now that song has a lot of meaning to me, from what Dora has done. Whatever you do, good name is better than riches. People thought that she was stupid when she returned money during the PTF time, but you can see that the deed opened many doors.

Dora would always tell you the truth no matter what; she would never lie to you. Even at the time when we went to India, at a time she said, ‘daddy, give me that medicine you used to give me,’ and I said, ‘you know, in India, I am not a doctor, I am a husband to a patient, I shouldn’t give you anything.’ She said, ‘no give me;’ so I gave her the tablet and she calmed. Do you know in the morning when doctors came on ward round, after the ward round, she said ‘oh, I forgot, my husband gave me a tablet last night o.’ I said, ‘mummy, why should you tell them that,’ she said: ‘do you want me to lie? I have to tell them the truth.’ This will tell you the extent she could go to say the truth. She believed in saying the truth. She knew that when you had good leaders, the country would be good, and she started that programme of ‘Good People, Great Nation.’ Now, we are playing with that slogan but do you know when we were in India, we saw many billboards with the same logo, “Good People, Great Nation.” If you analyse that statement, it is very punchy, if we are all good, this nation will be great.

What would you say about Nigerians’ concern over her death?

It has been great. When we landed at the airport, the outpouring of love and emotion made me to contain my grief. When we landed at the tarmac, I saw Peter Obi. I was touched. I said, ‘our Excellency, you came and saw us in India and now you are here at the tarmac. I didn’t tell you we were coming back.’ He said, ‘do you know for eight years I was governor of Anambra, Dora was the only one, who would look you in the eyes and tell you, governor, this is wrong, Your Excellency, this is bad, stop doing this one. She had the courage to tell you the truth; others would come and say you are wonderful, even if you shit in the street but Dora would tell you the truth.’ He promised to play every role in her burial.

We must have courage to say the truth and show love to our fellow men and love of God. Dora would always see God in everybody and she is very prayerful. So, I thank God for her life.

Knowing what she stood for, is there anything the family is doing to keep the fire burning?

There is already a Dora Foundation to fight fake drugs and they have already started doing something in Bayelsa State. We hope to reenergise it, reinvigorate it and even do more for Dora. Dora is just like an enigma. If you go to Igbinedion University, their Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is named after Professor Dora Akunyili, and the biggest hostel in that school too is named after Dora. If you come to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the biggest female hostel there is named after Dora Akunyili. Even the Women Development Centre in Abuja, their hall is named after Dora Akunyili. We hope that many more people will come to realise her importance. This is somebody who did not spare anything to show her love for this country and she was ready to really sacrifice her life to show her love for this country. So, whatever people do to immortalise her is very good. On our own part, we are going to do whatever is possible and follow up on the ones she initiated, including Paul and Grace Foundation, which she used to carter for the poor in Enugu.

If you recalled, before you married her, did you see some of these her traits?

When I married her, I just saw her as very intelligent. Do you know how I met her for the first time? It was through this same act of kindness. I was sick and she came for a vacation job at the UNTH, and they told us that Pharmacists were naughty and nasty, and if you go to beg for drugs they would insult you. I went in and I just told her: ‘Please, I am not well; I have malaria. Can you give me some drugs?’

Oh, she was very kind, very wonderful and I called her out and told her that people used to give us wrong impression about pharmacists but that she was different. She smiled and we started chatting. By the time I told her my name, she shrugged and asked if I was in anyway related to Akunyili Josephine? I said yes. She said Josephine was her college mother. She asked where Josephine was and I told her she was in Coal Camp (Enugu).

The next day, she went to Coal Camp, and instead of seeing Josephine, she saw my dad. That was the only day my father didn’t go to the market. My father chatted with her and phoned me to say she saw a girl, who was wonderful and had all the qualities in this world. He stated that although I was still in the university, I could marry this girl and my future would be great. He did not know we had met. I said okay, that he should invite her again. That day, I came and Dora came. My father asked about my impression. To marry her took only three weeks. And everything that my father predicted came to pass. Until my father died, we allowed him to enjoy the illusion that he was the one that saw Dorothy for me. He never knew we had met before and two of us kept that secret from him.

You need to see Dorothy and my dad or Dorothy and my mum. They would laugh from inside the heart; they loved her so much and she was loved by many people. Don’t you see the whole Nigeria? In the North, people call her sister. In the South, in the West, everywhere it’s the same.

She is a bridge builder. She had friends all over the country. I wish many Nigerians would be like that. Nigeria would be a great country. Dora is a darling to northerners, southerners, easterners, once you are a human being and a Nigerian, Dora would love you. She didn’t believe in cleavage lines and division between the rich and the poor.

In our house, there is one gateman, Ejike. Dora noticed a lot of intelligence in this guy and she employed him as house cleaner. From being the house cleaner, Ejike became the cook, and from being the cook, Dora trained him to university level. And today, Ejike is an accountant in NAFDAC. He is in charge of Owerri zone. And he still comes every weekend to the house.

Dora had done that to a many people; she has inspired many people and trained many people. Dora was just like an elephant. I don’t know where to stop. I can talk about Dora for the next four hours, not to talk of what she had done for many churches. Once anything pertained to God, she didn’t look back; she could give you even her last kobo, once it is something about God.

Finally, how has it been since after her death?

It hasn’t been easy; you saw me crying when former Governor Obi’s wife, Mrs. Margaret Obi, came. Once I see people, who are intimate with her… It will take me time to get over Dora. Dora was a professor but when she passed food for me, she would hold water for me to wash my hands.

I would tell her to allow another person do that but she would say, ‘no; I was Chike’s wife before becoming a professor.’ If you came to our house and Dora was at home, nobody would tell you because everybody would be happy. She has a pet name for everybody.

After scoring the winner Charlton at Old Trafford in an FA Youth Cup quarter-final in 2012, which Wilson struck seven minutes into injury time, he scolded himself in the shower, whilst his teammates refused to use the showers due to the boiling hot water. Wilson insisted that he didn’t care because he was full of adrenaline.

4. James Wilson is already well prepared for next season’s pre-season tour to America should he be selected to travel with the first team squad. He played for Manchester United's Under-18 side there in a tournament known as the Dallas Cup last year. He scored two goals in his opening game against Club America, one of the goals was set up by Adnan Januzaj.

5. Wilson was only told about his first ever selection on the bench for the Man United first team when media manager Karen Shotbolt handed him the team sheet. His name instantly started trending on twitter with Manchester United fans as soon as the news was revealed.

6. Wilson, before his debut against Hull, said that his career highlight was training with Nemanja Vidic and Tom Cleverly at St James’s Park and admitted to feeling nervous just training with these stars. Vidic spent time with him one on one focusing on short and sharp passes.

7. James Wilson was spotted by Manchester United when he was scoring goals for fun for Biddulph under-9s as a 7 year old. They invited him to train after only watching him the once and he was already in the Manchester United youth team when he was a Year 7 pupil at Park Middle School, Knypersley.

8. He nearly went on an emergency loan to Burnley in March. Sean Dyche approached Wilson after the striker had scored a hat-trick against the Burnley youth team, with a view to a move which the United centre forward turned down.

1) The Mystery of the Horse’s Skeleton at the Laundry End
As a kid I’d heard the rumours of a horse being buried when they were building the foundations of the original North Bank in 1913, then known as the Laundry End. That a horse and cart that had fallen into the rubble and that the unfortunate creature had to be put down.
I’d also heard that when they rebuilt the North Bank in 1993 they failed to find any remains and was disappointed to think that the tale simply did not occur. I remember a mate sitting on his shiny new seat in the North Bank the first day they opened it as an all seater stand and wondering out loud whether he was sitting near “that horse”. It got a round of hearty laughter from the fans around us who knew exactly what he was talking about. It was about the only highlight of that day as a certain Mickey Quinn of Coventry City scored as unlikely a hat-trick as you will ever see as the Sky Blues tonked us 3-0 on the first day of the 1992/92 season.
I had forgotten all about the horse until our move from Highbury which necessitated further digging at the beloved old ground, as it turned into the Highbury Square residential development.
Would you believe it, far below the surface workmen found two horseshoes alongside the remains of some timber, believed to be the cart. The story was true. My ten year old self was delighted. To be fair my thirty-something self was pretty pleased too, when I heard the news confirming such a romantic story in our long history had been confirmed.
As far as I know the horse shoes have been put in the Arsenal museum – not that they’ve brought much luck in the way of trophies just yet….
2) The Schoolboys Enclosure
This piece of hallowed concrete, which was effectively the lower tier of the East Stand was a rite of passage for all young Gunners of a certain vintage. When I first started going it was 75p entrance into the shallow terracing. No-one could call themselves a true Arsenal fan unless they stood here as a youngster, up until they put seats there in the early nineties as the ground dutifully complied with the Taylor Report.
If you know someone who claims to be a life-long Arsenal fan that is approaching middle age, ask them if they ever stood on the Schoolboys Enclosure. If they did then chances are you’re talking to a bona-fide gooner.
Nick Hornby recalls being terrified there as a kid, and having his scarf nicked. When I started going in the early 80s I seem to recall it was a bear pit full of streetwise Islington rascals. It says something that I was actually glad to graduate to the Clock End, and onto a whole new set of ruffians…
3) The Peanut Man
What passes for food at Arsenal these days? Genuine Handcrafted Pies made by machine at a fiver a pop? Nachos? Arsenal goujons?
That’s not proper football fayre.
No-one who stood at Highbury can forget the Peanut Man.
Incidentally the first time a good mate saw a picture of Stefan Swartz advertising ‘Arsenal goujons’ at the food counters in that cramped alleyway that passed for the entrance, exit and passageway in the Clock End he asked in all seriousness ‘What the f*ck is a goo-john?’ To me I still date his question as the first sign of the gentrification of Arsenal.
The Peanut Man did what it said on the tin. Or his brown paper sack of peanuts at any rate. He sold Peanuts. But he didn’t wait for you to come to him. He came to you. Via the terraces. He was in effect offering a delivery service for monkey nuts. I always thought he must have been a contortionist the way he weaved effortlessly through huge crowds.
It always felt like the larger the crowd the more you would see him on his circuit of the ground. I remember one game against Man Utd we actually scored when he was selling peanuts (in their shells of course) to a bloke behind me. Despite the mayhem – and me and many others inadvertently crushing up against him – he not only kept hold of his bag of nuts but actually gave the right change to the man who was by now insensible with joy: and managed to utter his immortal words, “peanuts, peanuts, cola”.
Even writing those words brought me back to a time before pubs stayed open all day, and if you didn’t meet your friends at a time and place you had agreed on you wouldn’t see them again as there was no chance of getting in touch in this distant per-mobile phone era…

4) Queuing at the Clock End turnstiles for big match tickets.
This may not seem like a memory to those who buy their tickets over the internet these days. But believe it or not kids, for FA Cup Final replays, and FA Cup Semi’s, not to mention big away cup games where we had a large allocation, you had to take your place – invariably at the top of Highbury Hill as the queue was already huge – and wait patiently to pass through the turnstiles. As you did you would have to chance to buy a ticket for the particular game that you wanted to go to (cash only mind).
The worst was when the powers that be decreed that tickets would go on sale for a predetermined game after the final whistle of a game that was actually taking place at the time. I recall as a kid waiting in a drunken crowd of big blokes who were all straining to hear on Avenell Road what exactly was going on at the game we had paid to see. It was like some surreal Kafka-esque experiment.
I went after school once to get tickets for a semi and had my new sports “Head” bag trampled in the melee, then ripped to piece by the wrought iron turnstile it had got trapped in.
It was worth it. I had just bought myself a ticket for Tottenham v Arsenal, Littlewoods Cup Semi Final replay at the Lane , 4^th March, 1987.
5) The Marble Halls
If you ask any football fan to name something about Highbury chances are that they would mention the Marble Halls. All Arsenal fans were proud of this fact.
They used to sell tickets at the counters inside under the brass metal railway plate so you were able to enter this hallowed area if you had a good enough excuse back in the day.
I loved the way your school shoes would echo to the solid stone when you walked over it. I always made sure I cleaned them if I knew I had to pop up after school to Arsenal to get tickets or transport for some away game or other.
There always used to be a gaggle of touts outside on non-match days if there was a big game approaching. Eyes darting and speaking out of the side of their mouths like all touts used to do they would pull big rolls of extremely used tenners from their pockets, and ask kids to go in and buy some tickets for them.
As a serious child who knew even then that talking out of the side of your mouth was a Bad Thing I never trusted them. (That fact holds true even today. And I’d still like to have a quiet word with the one who sold me a nicked ticket for a ton for Chelsea away in the Champions League in 2004).
My mates were far less fastidious. They used to get a quid a ticket if they followed the touts orders. When one tried to undercut the rest by offering 50p per ticket, it prompted less than the normal efficient response from my pal when lying to those behind the counter. “Are they for the touts outside”, a terrifying club stalwart of the Travel Club asked us. As he was losing 50p a ticket on the deal my unmotivated mate simply replied yes. “F*ck ‘em then”, this Arsenal administrative legend who is still at the club replied.
I have also seen with my own eyes an Arsenal player (who shall remain nameless) brazenly hand over a wad of tickets to a well-known tout who in turn gave him a brick of fivers. I suppose it’s marginally more honest than lying on a casino floor with 50 quid notes plastered all over you, which is what certain players of certain teams do these days.
The amount of dodgy dealing that used to go on there – and in front of those immaculate Commissionaires resplendent in their starched uniforms too.
6) The Arsenal Locomotive Nameplate
I always thought that the art deco style of the famous marble halls was complemented even more by the most random item. Hands up who remembers the curved Arsenal Locomotive Nameplate with the small football underneath?
LNER, in 1936 rolled out a new class of engine. To publicise the feat they decided to name them after various football clubs. As befitting Arsenal’s status as the most well-known football club in England – some would say the world at the time, the first train off the production line was named Arsenal. On March 15 Lord Lonsdale, the Chairman of the club, unveiled the nameplate at Kings Cross station, and the engine stayed in service until it was withdrawn in 1958, upon which the nameplate was presented to the club and hung in the Marble Halls sometime after.
For those with literal trainspotting tendencies the Arsenal number was 2848. (Other prominent numbers included Leeds United 2856 and Manchester United 2862. Did I really just write that sentence?)
7) The Bloke Who Shouted “Come on you Rip-Roaring Reds” every time the game went quiet late in the second half.
I wasn’t sure if he was certifiably insane, mentally ill or just p*ssed. Either way it formed the soundtrack to my youth.
8) The advertising sign on the East Stand that read “JVC and Arsenal – The Perfect Match”
The power of marketing on impressionable minds. For years I only ever bought JVC branded electrical goods. More to the point I never drank Holsten Pils.
9) The “Make Money” women.
Arsenal’s first venture into commercialism. Women selling raffle tickets as they walked round the cinder track before games and at half time. I’m sure one prize once was a “tray of meat”. Who says the eighties wasn’t a simpler age?
10) Shouting “We’re the North Bank/We’re the Clock End/ Highbury” to each other at loud volumes.
People who talk about the “positive Matchday experience” at Arsenal these days don’t remember that going to Highbury simply used to be fun.
There is a Clock End at Ashburton Grove but that’s all it is.

It’s not even the original.
When I sit on my padded Season Ticket seat in the silent new ground that I insist on calling the Grove, watching the latest day-tripper devour a box of Arsenal goujons, a bag full of overpriced club shop tat at their side, whilst they prod me, and demand a photo of them gurning inanely during the game with their backs to the pitch, unable to name half the current team, let alone the three statues outside – I think back to the days of supporting The Arsenal at Highbury.
And die a little death at the loss of that glorious old place.
And one thing I don’t miss….
Millwall and West Ham United always taking the North Bank
As a kid I’d always start to get worried when I came out of Arsenal tube and saw huge mobs of shifty looking blokes in the latest sports casual gear I’d never seen before, desperately trying to look inconspicuous while they walked up to the turnstiles. It never worked but I must admit as I queued for the schoolboys enclosure I would let out a sigh of relief that when it did kick off I would be able to watch it from the relative safety of the lower corner of the East Stand.
The day the ICF let off a smoke bomb at the front of the North Bank was a particular low, as were the 12,000 Lions fans who came to N5, in the infamous FA Cup game of 1987 – all of whom seemed intent on taking a piece of Highbury back to South East London with them.

1 – Its terrifying history

Before the continents broke apart, North London was home to the original Native Americans. Emirates Stadium is now built on top of an ancient Indian burial ground. One day, a club employee brought his daughter to the stadium and set her down to watch TV, only to be horrified when a portal opened up in a stationary closet and sucked her inside.

2 – How it was founded by a secret society

BREAKING NEWS: Search Ship Of Missing Malaysian Plane ‘Picks Up Signal’

A Chinese vessel that is part of a multinational search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane in the southern Indian Ocean reported on Saturday that an underwater sensor had picked up a “pulse signal,” China’s official news agency reported.

The signal had a frequency of 37.5 kHz, the report said, which is the frequency used for all standard underwater locator devices attached to aircraft data and voice recorders, commonly known as black boxes.

Hours after the report, the Australian chief coordinator of the Indian Ocean search, retired Air Chief Marshall Angus Houston, said “the characteristics reported are consistent with the aircraft black box.” He also noted that white objects had been spotted floating in the water about 56 miles from the area where the sounds were heard.

But he urged caution, saying the reports could not be immediately verified -- a sentiment echoed by Malaysian and Chinese officials.

“There is no confirmation at this stage that the signals and the objects are related to the missing aircraft,” said Mr. Houston, chief of the Joint Agency Coordination Center, an Australian government group.

False alerts can be triggered by sea life, including whales, or by noise from ships. An alert sounded on the British Royal Navy vessel HMS Echo last week turned out to be false, according to the Australians.

The Chinese vessel, Haixun 01, was searching about 1,020 miles northwest of Perth, Australia, on Saturday when it picked up the pulse signal, Xinhua reported.

In the four weeks since Flight 370 veered off its scheduled path from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and dropped off civilian and military radar, no trace of the plane has been found. In the past week, searchers have concentrated their efforts in several areas of the Indian Ocean more than 900 miles off the coast of Perth, Australia. A flotilla of ships from various nations have combed the water as aircraft have conducted daily reconnaissance flights.

Crews aboard the planes and ships have spotted floating items nearly every day, but so far all the objects have turned out to be fishing equipment and other detritus not related to Flight 370.

On Saturday, 10 military planes, 3 civilian jets and 11 ships were scheduled to search an area about 1,050 miles northwest of Perth, and the signal reported by the Chinese ship appeared to come from that area, according to coordinates provided by Xinhua.

The Haixun 01 has been a regular member of the search flotilla for days and is one of at least eight vessels China has deployed to the Indian Ocean to help in the search.

On Friday, search coordinators announced that the underwater phase of the hunt had begun with the addition of two military ships — one from Australia and the other from Britain — equipped with underwater sensor technology.

Both those ships planned to resume their underwater search on Saturday, the Australian Coordination Center said in a statement early in the day. There was no mention, however, of the Haixun 01’s part in the underwater search or whether it was outfitted with technology for detecting black boxes.

The Haixun 01 went into service last year, when the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration said it was the biggest of China’s civilian maritime administration vessels with the most advanced equipment.

Black boxes are equipped to emit a signal that can be detected by a receiver under the surface of the water. The maximum detection range is typically up to about two to three kilometers, or less than two miles, though the range is dependent on various factors including the sensitivity of the receiver, sea conditions, water temperature or whether the black boxes are buried by debris.

Much hope is riding on the effectiveness of the underwater listening devices. The black boxes’ batteries, which have a life span of about a month, are expected to expire as early as this week. When they die, so will the pinger signal, leaving the boxes to rest mutely on the seabed, making their discovery far more difficult.

CBN Building burnt down after the suspension of Sanusi. What is their plans?

The Lagos State office of the Central Bank of Nigeria is on fire. The fire started at about 5:40 PM at the top most part of the building.
Men of the Lagos Fire Service and other emergency agency officials are said to have arrived the scene.
The over 50 year old building is located at the Tinubu area of Lagos Island. It is situated opposite the Stock Exchange office on Custom Street, Marina.
The building used to serve as the bank’s headquarters before the Federal Capital Territory was moved to Abuja.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
